As a father of a young child with T1D I have heard them all. The worst ones are from extended family.... "Isn't she better yet? Why is she still taking insulin? She should've gotten over it by now".
Yep! I have heard them all! Plus, on festive occasions, "I madE this special sugar free pie (or cake) just for you because YOU can't have sugar." Sugar Free Pie slice = 32 g carbs -vs- Good Pie that everyone else is eating =36 g carbs I want the GOOD PIE! LOL
Try using the V-Go pump. its replaced daily, and you can bolus dose before meals, and it supplies a slow stream when on you. Works best on the stomach, not the back of the arm. Also use Novalog, because it can last 3 days after refridgeration, whereas humalog only 1 day.
The most annoying ones are like mlm ones where they go" these shakes will cure your diabetes. My aunt's cousin's half-brother's friend was able to" and I just have to walk away before I throw something lol
Yea!!! It's always some, best friend's daughter's cousin's nephew's girlfriend's dad's Sister...that (insert completely pointless warning or horrible outcome like missing limbs and digits) happened to that person...who, once again! is most likely NOT A TYPE ONE (1)!!!!! I mean. I don't go around to the type 2's I know all like, 'hey you just need to lose weight and eat healthy and you can reverse your diabetes'! Why? Cuz I mind my business! So why don't they just mind theirs! 😅/😒
Yeah.... I still hear shit about curing my son's type 1 diabetes. If people would just ask questions, I'd be glad to educate them. I was happy to educate the curious man in McDonald's when he saw me giving my son insulin.
Too right 🤟 people often assume I'm type 2 because I'm overweight. But I'm overweight because I'm a type 1 with a messed up relationship to food in the past. Cinnamon ain't gonna cut it for me 🤣🤣
THIS is the one thing that makes me hate telling people i have diabetes because i am overweight, so when i say i have diabetes, they just give you that look like "yeah, that makes sense"
No, you're overweight because you are eating to much, simple as that. Too bad you don't have diabetes because you're fat, because that's reversible. Oh well.
Is it just me or do I hate it when people on social media or people who you meet in person and they say, “Oh, this tastes like Diabetes!” And they just make a joke out of it? Yeah, I hate that.
I try not to give diabetes enough influence in my life to have that upset me. With that said, YES, if I think about it too much it is very irritating lol.
At a Christmas get together at my Uncle's house, after dinner my Aunt asked everyone what kind of ice cream they wanted with their pie, and she turned to me a PUBLICLY said "and you can't have any". I WAS PISSED and embarrassed!!!!! How DARE she say that! Of all the people that shouldn't have any ice cream... SHE is VERY overweight too! My Mother also was always concerned about my sugar and what I ate. I know it was that she was worried about me, but I always told her "I don't let diabetes run my life", BUT I do pay attention to it and treat for it. I do NOT ignore it!
Here is some advice for new diabetics that has helped me manage my blood sugars: 1: If you go low, don't eat chocolate as they contain fat which slows the glucose going into your blood. Sweets such as jelly babies, skittles and fruit pastles get them up a lot faster. 2: Exercise really helps leveling your blood. I would recommend doing cardio exercises such as running. I have noticed that it mainly helps you level your blood sugars the day after exercising. 3: If you go high straight after a meal, wait around 15 minutes to let the insulin take affect while your eating it. I do all of these tips, and my 14 day percentage on my dexcom g6 is 93% with the average for my age is 64%. I really hope that this helps manage your blood sugars the way it has helped me.
I've had people slap cookies out of my hand when I was treating a low before... been at this 15 years now. If I want a cookie low or not .. I promise I saved my carbs for that treat
sometimes you need a small amount of sugar to keep glucose from crashing. Crashes are worse than highs. I always keep a tube of glucose tablets in my medical kit, and I dont leave home without it. I also am on Reglan for Gastric Paresis. The Reglan works great, but it causes involuntary finger and hand movements sometimes. But its by far the lesser of two evils.
I know just how you feel. My grandma’s dog has diabetes. 😑 Soak a cucumber in water over night, drink the water the next morning, cured. (My stepdaughter told me this.) My number one favorite is how can you stick yourself with needles. I could never do that. 🙄 I use a pump btw.
I have been a type one since 4. And My husband is a preacher and our congregation is a older one. I have heard all of these. 😂 thanks for making these videos man they are so relatable!
This had me in tears laughing! A perfect video for a day that I can't get my sugar to cooperate. Sometimes I wanna know if the people that say "At least it's not ___" say that to everyone. Like do you also say that to people with other diseases or am I the only person you talk like this to? Hahaha people are crazy 🙄
Shared on FB. I am newly diagnosed and learning to navigate all of the snake oil but well intended advice. Thank you for your videos, they help a newbie understand and not feel so alone in the new journey. I had almost 40 good years so I am learning how to live all over again in a new way. Thank you! There is certainly a lot of snake oil out there. It’s difficult at first but things level out. It isn’t a death sentence. Thank you for watching and good luck to you!
So how can you reverse diabetes? The key seems to be weight loss. Not only can shedding pounds help you manage your diabetes, sometimes losing enough weight could help you live diabetes-free -- especially if you've only had the disease for a few years and haven't needed insulin.
@@ratataran Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder that can't be reversed, you uneducated twat! Do some homework. Only type 2 can be reversed with weight loss but not Type 1. Got one the other day from friends I hadn't seen in 25 years "Wow, you must have diabetes really bad!" Me: "just the same as everyone else with type 1"
As a Type 1, this made my day. My favorite has always been, "Oh you are diabetic, so you can eat any sugar"...my response usually is, "If you don't eat any sugar you will die, but F it, let's give it a try doctor."
the worst is "you must have eaten a lot of sugar growing up" then having to explain to them that isn't the case, and them still not believing you. Because, you know, eating sugar gives you diabetes.
I was a temp for a chiropractor's office once. He said he could cure my diabetes by just realignment and cracking my back. Lol, yeah, okay. If it was that simple, everyone in my town would be cured.
I also tell them that ive given diabetes to more than two dozen people who are always in my face about how to cure it. Its like a cold, --- and that shuts them up and gets them away from me.
How about this from medical people I encounter: "Diabetes is Diabetes it doesn't matter they all have the same treatment." or the terrifying term "Brittle Diabetic" what a nice label to encounter! answer: "No, I am not brittle anything my blood sugar is high because I just took an ambulance ride to the ER with a dislocated knee and I have pain and stress at the moment. You aren't helping!"
One of the things that REALLY make me mad is when in class, all you want to do is give yourself insulin, and the kids look at you and say, "You shouldn't do drugs. It's bad for you." Or "I'm really sorry to eat this candy/dessert in front of you. Hope you don't feel bad." EVERY TIME!!!!!! I can't explain how many times i bout punched somebody's mouth for telling me that crap!
Can you please do a video on annoying things people say to you when you say you have diabetes like “oh my cat has diabetes” or “my grandma has diabetes”
I was going hypo one time with my friend, and I told him (since my dumbass forgot to restock my “diabetic bag” that I keep my diabetic shit in with emergency snacks) to grab me a coke from the CVS around the corner and bring it to me, homie comes back with a Coke Zero, I ask him “why did you get a Coke Zero? I need a normal one.” To which he responds “your diabetic, you can’t have a normal coke!” I did end up getting a normal coke shortly after and all was good, but still it was a funny moment
My mom called me this morning I had told her I’m type 2, first thing she said was I’m so sorry “well looks like a won’t buy cake for Christmas” ... have you tried Keto 😒
It's just as bad for type2 diabetics. I have type 2 and people in my building can't stop scolding me about my sugars. It's irritating as hell, even though I know their just trying to be helpful.
I have a type two diabetic friend whom likes to tell me that I shouldn't have sugar. I say that I'm type one and I can always take a shot. I also try to teach about type one diabetes to others online who say. "This will give me diabetes." Or I saw a comment on videos for a young type one diabetic "If you didn't let her eat so much sugar she wouldn't have diabetes." Why is cancer the only disease taught to high schoolers. I almost died last night from this disease 😢 yet they are still people making jokes online or on TV about type one diabetics. Add on top of my type one diabetes is dialysis and I'm only 25. I celebrated when you burnt that paper
just noticed that you're a lefty and my girlfriend is also a lefty with T1. After a quick google search it appears that 26% of T1 are lefty with only 10% of the population being lefty. Have you ever noticed that ? great videos by the way, me and my GF love them
Okay well there goes my productivity. Now I need to search this lol. That is a really neat fact. I had no idea. And thanks for watching them! Glad they are worthwhile!
I feel like the main problem is type 1 is a different disease then type 2 they are not the same and should have a total different name. nothing makes me angry like when someone says” my grandad got the Sugas and all he did was walk around and lost weight “. I feel for anyone that has to deal with the ups and downs and any that has woken up to cops or EMTS standing over you and you have no idea what’s going on. That’s my nightmare and has happened on more the one occasion:(
Have type 1 and use Vgo-40 with novalog. Tried going without sugar and used artifical sweetners, and blood sugar shot up to 600. Use honey, brown sugar, limited white sugar, and avoid carbs, but go high on the protiens and veggies. Also use freestlye libre CGM. People can look at me and know when my sugar is too high- A restaurant I frequently go to- went inside and everybody moved away from me and everybody stared, in fear. You look like your fixing to kick some serious ass!, said one of the customers. Same thing happened at outback steakhouse. Then I eat, pump the VGO, and its all good.
The funny thing is: They ALWAYS think we have Type Two Diabetes for some reason!! So for type TWO, yes, changing your diet and getting down to a healthier weight actually WILL Reverse your type TWO diabetes. But when it comes to Type ONE: COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY. I'm 5'2 and Could weigh in at 115 and have an amazingly healthy meal plan for LIFE. But that UNFORTUNATELY. WILL NOT REVERSE TYPE ONE (1) DIABETES. P.S. my previous endo, who is now retired, said: "Never let anyone tell you what you can and cannot eat." So take THAT!
Actually, according to my clinical pharmacologist friend, cinnamon does help stabilize blood sugar - as long as you're using it in conjunction with your other meds. You can't do just cinnamon.
I tell people: there are only things I can't eat. 1) poison, and 2) cookies...made with poison.
Okay I am stealing this. Love it.

I think I would have milked that for as long as the free sessions lasted 🤣😂🤣😂
@@suzanne2647 He wasn't going to give anything for free. Lol he was charging people $500+ per session, and that was over 10 yrs ago.
@@athenapoe3377 😲 gosh.... I am in the wrong job 🤣
Another great video buddy.
Thanks a ton. Please share it!
I also tell them that ive given diabetes to more than two dozen people who are always in my face about how to cure it. Its like a cold, --- and that shuts them up and gets them away from me.
LOVE. THIS.
Thank you!
That truly is a terrifying term. Thanks for watching Ann!
Someone in my work serous told me if I eat vegan I got healed. And of course what I should eat and what not..
Genius! Why didn't WE think of this!
Are you on beyond type 1 ?
@@Dennis-lp7xe Yes, I wrote an article for their site and they shared the "If Blood Sugar Could Talk" video. That was a fun thing to be a part of.
Can you please do a video on annoying things people say to you when you say you have diabetes like “oh my cat has diabetes” or “my grandma has diabetes”
How bout “oh my cat has diabetes!”
Oh that one for sure!
Just... thank you.
No problem! Glad you enjoyed!
It's just as bad for type2 diabetics. I have type 2 and people in my building can't stop scolding me about my sugars. It's irritating as hell, even though I know their just trying to be helpful.
My uncle told me I could fix it with diet and would sent give it up
😂 So true!
Whoa my T1D is a lefty.
I be sad 😥 when they say"oh I'm sorry your daughter is diabetic " I'm feeling so bad 👎 😔
All true for Type 2.
I hate that some people say it like Diabetas like what the heck
aunt carol: charleigh your diabetic, should you be eating that??!!
me:i don’t know aunt carol should you have gotten 3 divorced?
Ha ha ha🤣so true
The funny thing is:
They ALWAYS think we have Type Two Diabetes for some reason!! So for type TWO, yes, changing your diet and getting down to a healthier weight actually WILL Reverse your type TWO diabetes.
But when it comes to Type ONE:
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 funniest video ever!!
Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
Actually, according to my clinical pharmacologist friend, cinnamon does help stabilize blood sugar - as long as you're using it in conjunction with your other meds. You can't do just cinnamon.
My aunt told me to try marijuana to cure it. I am currently 12.
Ok...this might just top them all!!😆 my type1 daughter is 12...I feel your pain...lol.
“At least you don’t have cancer”, or “If I had to choose…I’d choose diabetes over cancer”. 😒😑🔫🤦🏽♂️
Bahahaaa! Yes! Light it on fire😂.
This is what's happening in my head every time!
I hate when people do this...
Yeah one time an extended family member told me I should stop eating carbs and my diabetes will go away. Like bro do you want me dead💀?
