    A friend of mine bought a 1966 Mustang GT350 in the late 1970's. It had the stock 289 with stock sidepipes (dealer installed?) and I always remember how the car was incredibly light, very fast and extremely tinny sounding (doors, hood, trunk lid, etc all had no sound damping at all). For a 289 it was incredibly fast, with slightly quicker acceleration than my 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible's 330 Jetfire Rocket (320 HP stock).
    As a 16 year old teenager he drove it daily to high school but he found it difficult to park with the manual steering. With his father's assistance, in 1981 or 1982, he installed power steering and power brakes from another 1966 Mustang.
    He still has it today and I still have my 1967 Oldsmobile.

      I had a 65 and a 66 you had to actually drive them. No power brakes, no power steering, no ABS, and yes the rear end was light. They became very difficult when it was raining, but I learned how to drive a car, really drive a car.

    • @Slider68
      @Slider68 3 роки тому

      @@Bulldogmm what did yours have for a rear end? I'm not sure which ratio was stock (maybe 3.89:1; he had at least 2 of those in 3rd members from other GT350s).
      Most interesting was the fact the GT350 3rd members had Detroit lockers inside and the cars came stock, right from Ford, this way. I don't know if the locker was a factory option or if all GT350s came with them. The first time I had one in my hands to play with I recall being extremely intrigued that there was no actual differential but instead a ratcheting system behaving similar to the ratchet in a socket set.
      Another odd memory I have is him being so happy when he got a genuine (Ford) lightweight fiberglass hood from a 65 that he installed (in 66 Ford switched to heavier steel structured hoods). Later, when it warped so badly you couldn't latch the hood pins he wasn't so happy... Did your 65's hood also warp like his. That hood eventually fell apart so he switched to a more aggressive, raised center, aftermarket hood.

      @@Slider68 they had stock gears. I think it 3.00:1 gears. My friends high higher gear ratios, but most of them couldn’t drive when the roads were wet the could spin the tires in Fourth gear when it was wet so it got sketchy real quick.

It's like they don't truly value or treasure anything and are just looking forward to the next thing. I like Hoovie and his videos, and he can do what he wants obviously. Congratulations on your beautiful Shelby. I bought a hertz renta racer back in 73 that someone had painted ford candy Apple red for 1800.00. All the hertz cars were converted to automatic but they disconnected the return spring on the clutch pedal and put it under the carpet. Getting rid of that was one of the many dumb car moves I’ve made in my life, but it was just a used car back then 🤷🏼‍♂️. Looking forward with all you do to it.

This way you will have the race set-up ready to go. You don't want to waste the race stuff on the street. The noise you hear in the back may be the Shelby override bars. He was telling me the stories of the fixes and shaking his head of all the dumb stuff people did to those mustangs. What brought him around this area . He followed Carol this way for the manufacturing of the Shelby charger in the Omni ghl. That were manufactured in the belvedere plant and possibly Kenosha Wisconsin also. But he ended up picking up a Shelby charger it was not considered a Dodge because there's enough car parts changed to be considered its own car.
