    A guy sits down at the bar and orders drink after drink. "Is everything okay, pal?" the bartender asks. "My wife and I got into a fight and she said she wasn’t going to talk to me for a month.”
    Trying to put a positive spin on things, the bartender says, "Well, maybe that's kind of a good thing. You know... a little peace and quiet?"
    "Yeah. But today is the last day...”
    2 blind guys were about to fight
    I shouted: "I bet the one with the knife wins!
    Both started running away.

    I think the solution to the butchered mind /closed mind / dark mind etc - is in that room where you fought Cressa.
    If you have a mind (heh!) to go back, the interaction is worth it.

    Hi Gopher, seeing as you are about to get into Act 3, just a small, non-spoilery heads-up.
    Act 3 is far less linear than the previous areas, but at the same time, it can, on occasion, make you feel strongly compelled to pursue certain paths. This is something BG3 has been criticized for, and while Act 3 might actually be my favourite part of the game, I do agree with this. I'm hoping they'll address the problem in Patch 7, but who knows. So... if you find yourself rushing off in a particular direction, always remember to pause and smell the flowers, trees, cobbles, posters and furniture, and whatever else you find strewn in your path. OK, slight exaggeration there, but you get the drift, I'm sure. 😉 Act 3 has a lot of fun content that's worth paying attention to.

    I'm gonna weigh in on the paid mods thing despite this being after the stream, and so few people will be likely to see it.
    I have a very simple rule when it comes to video games. It doesn't matter whether it's a main game, DLC, those old expansion packs you used to buy in stores (HEYO RCT FANS!) or anything else that costs money in the gaming world; this rule works for me. Including Paid Mods.
    I call it "Dollars to Hours" or "My dollar to hour ratio" depending on which flows better in the moment. ;)
    If I get at least an hour of entertainment (AKA: not suffering from bad game design the whole time) for every dollar I've spent, I consider it a good investment and think it was "worth it". When the price goes over $50-ish, I do start _hoping_ it'll be x10 with the numbers (I'm broke and have to save up for more-expensive stuff). _But..._ as long as I hit that dollar to hour ratio, I'm fine with the purchase.
    I've had this mindset ever since PC gaming started taking off. Basically I was too young to have sorted this out, back when my folks bought a Nintendo for the family. And hadn't even thought about it much when I bought my ol' Game Gear. But when Dad bought a family computer, and I started using it for gaming, I was finally getting a little more money-wise. Fortunately, I was already developing this ratio when I bought my first GBA too. :p
    And works so well for me too in most situations. Most of the rest of this post is examples both good and bad to explain the train of thought a little more. My main point has been made, and you can safely ignore the rest of the comment, unless of course you like reading some mini-rants.
    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
    - A dumb little 2 dollar game that I can beat in 20 minutes? Ehh, maybe not... unless it's fun enough to play more than enough times to hit two hours or more. (Yahtzee Phone app).
    - A super expansive adventure game that takes hours just to explore one large quest out of about a dozen main ones, for only $50? Oh yeah, Skyrim's got my back... TWICE even. Still Worth it. ;)
    - A 5 dollar DLC to build some cookie-cutter house that only takes a couple hours to finish? Not quite there, until I play my 8th new Skyrim run and go back and rebuild each of the Hearthfire houses all over again, because I want my own wizard tower, but the family would prefer a kitchen and garden. Yeah, okay, was worth it.
    - A really nice city builder that triggered all kinds of nostalgia in me when I saw it for $50, and I fully intend to play more of it when I finish some of my current games... but never really get back around to after the first 20 hours... yet still bought $65 worth of DLC for... Yeah, came up a bit short with Cities Skylines. This one technically still has potential to eventually be "worth it" because I haven't really lost interest in the whole game yet; it's just that there are other gaming priorities at the moment.
    - Another one with similar 'conditions' is Planet Coaster. I easily spent over $100 dollars on PlanCo but only have about 22 hours in it. Two problems came up here. The game came out while I'm already in a Nostalgia Playthrough of all the old RollerCoaster Tycoon games and it's way down that timeline from original RCT. The other problem was that my computer at the time couldn't run it 'well'. When I get back to this game in my Theme Park game-list, I'll easily get 100s of hours in it too. So it WILL be worth it, but isn't yet.
    - And finally, the game I actively regret buying and have been seriously ticked at since its full release... I paid $65 dollars for early-access deluxe edition of a game that held the _name_ from one of my favorite franchises ever. If you've been paying attention, you might already have guessed the franchise... RollerCoaster Tycoon World seems to have actively been a scam. A greedy cash-grab with NO respect to to the consumers, used as a last-ditch effort to try and prevent Atari from going bankrupt. I only played 10 (and a half) hours, and even then it was so I could try to actively help with beta reports and such.
    Yeah, I fell for the "buy early and gain beta access" scheme, and that ticks me off. But what's even worse is that I took that 'opportunity' seriously; I was submitting bug-reports, ideas when they asked for them on the website, and constructive criticism when they asked for that. I only know now, that was ALL marketing BS... Because when the game finally released, it was ACTIVELY WORSE THAN THE BETA VERSION!!! I could at least RUN the beta version. Full release? My computer choked, and very nearly had an actual meltdown, after only half an hour.
    But of course, I already had ten hours from beta testing, when I tried to get Steam to refund RCTW, so they said no. And now... the game's only $20 for the full Deluxe edition... If I had just waited until later, I'd of only been out $20 bucks, and gotten half way to the dollar/hour benchmark. Ever since then, NO MORE EARLY ACCESS, with very few exceptions. There are games out there that are fully-feature complete, optimized, and mostly bug-free, but the devs are just nervous about officially releasing it because they think "it's not done yet" which brings me to my last game for this rant...
    - Dinkum. It _is_ an early access game. But if the dev stopped doing any work on it at all, starting tomorrow, it would still be a really good game as is. It's basically Animal Crossing: NH with an Australian Flare. But it has the timescale and combat found in something like Stardew Valley. Only cost me 20 bucks, and even in early access, I've already got over 400 hours in it. This is a very straightforward example of dollars to hours working. I just put it last to leave my comment on a positive note. :)
    Thank you for reading this far, and I honestly hope you have a lovely day/week.

    i think you might be a bit off on the factions of paid mods: there is no doubt that there are the "absolutely never" and the "meh, if its worth it", not to forget the "dont know, dont care" and true neutral people, but staunch defenders of paid mods? do they exist?

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  Місяць тому

      Yes. And I don't mind people being supporters of it either. Same with the "never" crowd. I just happen to disagree with both sides on and off because some of their arguments are unconvincing.

      There's nothing inherently wrong with modders wanting to be paid for the content they create, so yes I'm a staunch defender. Bethesda's implementation and prices are worthy of criticism, but the overall concept? Nah.

    I'm enjoying this series, even the bugs, as frustrating as they may have been for Gopher, were funny to watch. Regarding the whole Saves and Ability Checks, I feel your confusion, DnD 5e isn't super consistent with those. In general, you'll make saves when you're the target, checks when you're the attacker. The exception are contested checks, of which strength-based athletics (shoving, for example) is the most common.

    • @RandomGuy010
      @RandomGuy010 Місяць тому +1

      @@nemo-zl1vm It's a very good spell in combination with abilities that hit many times.
      For example, if you're multiclassing Warlock/Monk you'd get 3 hits (6 with haste) from your action with Eldritch Blast then two more with your Flurry of Blows bonus action. With hex up that's a lot of extra damage. Combine with Phalar Aluve Shriek and you'll be killing bosses in one turn. Same with a Thief multiclass, or a good magic missile.

    • @strangestecho5088
      @strangestecho5088 Місяць тому +1

      @@nemo-zl1vm The ability debuff is mostly useless, but the bonus on-hit damage is extremely good in many builds. It is rough that warlocks have to spend one of their precious spell slots to cast it, but there are ways to give them a bonus slot and bypass that problem entirely.

      If you've ever the time for it I'd recommend playing the old games. Dated UI aside, they're quite enjoyable.

    Now that was a fight! You handled it really well.
    You just have to look out for Wyll's spell slots now, every spell will ask you to use Warlock (V) or the one from the shield (I). When you cast Armor of Agathys, you may have wanted the big one, since up cast gives more temp THP and damage. Also, the armor can be overwritten by THP from Dark Ones Blessings, essentially removing the Cold damage effect.
    That is the quirk with THP: you can have them only from one source, if the new source is higher than your lost THP, it replaces. There are sadly only vague tooltips about this, so I hope you don't mind the hint.

    Has Gopher tried using a res scroll on Helsin's body? I know he never joined the party but you can res Will if he dies at the gate to the Emerald Grove, which is before he can join the party. Im just wondering if this is why the druid keeps following them arround camp to camp.
