Frontier all day. I have a Nissan Frontier Pro 4x and I love it. Got it new
That review was a bunch of bunk , one man's opinion with no head to head testing to demonstrate any real capabilities-worthless
100% agree with your rankings. Cant believe toyota is last but they are just so overpriced. TRD Pro at 65k is wild
But 65k is all that'll ever pay you won't pay for anything else except gas of course
@@euheyshdgsbdjstz521what are you talking about every car will have maintenance and stuff happen( gas oil ECT). I'd be willing to argue more parts equals more possibilities for issues so adding turbos and extra shock on the back just add unnecessary unreliability
I'm a Chevy guy but this new Nissan Frontier has grown on me... NA V6, Hydraulic Steering, doesn't have any of the nonsense high tech. I've seen these Pro-4X retail for less than 40k in my area. Definitely will be my next truck!
You saw a new Nissan Pro4x for less that 40K? Where?. The cheapest MSRPs on them is mid 40s up to 50K.
And they’re made in Mississippi 🇺🇸
@@danielrn133we bought one and received a $5k discount so the sales price was just under $40K. Good luck getting that discount from one of the others.
i bought a Pro4X in March for 39,900. MSRP was 47,000. in central Arkansas.
I randomly test drove a Pro4x, ended up buying it because it was so good.
i had 22 frotier pro 4x . got stolen and totaled. was waiting for the new tacoma but after their pricing i think im going frontier again. wild that ford has a turn key 😂
You can get push button start but it kills the Nissan in all other tech
Bought a new 24 frontier king cab 4x4 Sv last weekend and love it. No turbo. 6 foot bed , simple yet comfortable
The frontier is the most fully loaded for the price. It’s also a V6 with a well built 9sp transmission. The frontier has the right amount of tech. Yes the back up camera quality isn’t the best but it’s a back up camera not a TV. Who cares, if I am spending 46k on a truck I want my shit to last atleast 250k miles with no major issues. That’s why the frontier is my pick, it’s by far the best bang for your buck and will be more reliable.
Colorado Z71. Just bought one a few days ago. Love it! Thanks for vid👍👍
I'm a chevy guy, last 2 times I've had my silverado in for oil change there have been new Colorados hauled in on flat beds. Ecu issues and they dead in the water. Talking to one of guys it was the third time in 2 weeks. I'm sure they will figure it out but it's a pass for me
Love my 2024 Pro-4x
Nice! I agree with your rankings 100%. I own the 23 Frontier. That powertrainis awesome. Incredibly smooth shifts and linear power. It’s nice to see the variations in the trucks. There’s something for everyone.
I'll take my 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro4X all day.
Dependability......
Got a pro 4x about a month ago. Love it. Old school in a new school package.
Great review! Thanks! 🔥
Chevy trail boss was one I slightly considered.
Pulled the trigger on a 23 Pro 4x fully loaded with extended 5 warranty, gap, and a 6 year maintenance package coming out to 50k.
Frontier all day long. Best engine. Best/most comfortable seating. Highest reliability. Most value for your dollar. How do I know? I own one.
Thank you Ben for a great video. I am glad you have been posting more vehicles that are in a more realistic 2024 cost of living price range. (Toyota not so much).
GM twins have the best looks IMO and the power train/ turbos have been out as long or longer that the fords.
Just bought a new Nissan 4x last weekend. Tried the new Tacoma and Gladiator as well. Wife and I both agree it was the Frontier by a mile. One week later and zero buyer's remorse.
Good video Ben thanks- not sure there all nice
Fun review and I’m honestly shocked with your final ranking. I don’t disagree, but a couple years ago such a ranking would be considered impossible. All 4 trucks seem pretty nice.
Have a new 2024 xlt ford ranger no regrets I love it it’s like a suv size but reminds me of driving a crv on the interstate it never down shifts to keep the rpm’s up on the interstate
I found Colorado trail boss to be a better buy than an XLT ranger FX4
None
I purchased a Red Ford Maverick Tremor and I love it.
I own a 2019 Ranger that I purchased brand new. It's been a great truck. No issues. Relieved the 2.3 has turned out to be a reliable engine.
I wish my 19 was wider like the 24.
If the new Colorado front end is anything like the new 1500, plan on having the front end rebuilt ever 50 to 80k if it's taken off road or used as a work truck.
I test drive a Toyota Tacoma and they are good if you’re 4 foot tall, and don’t mind feeling crammed.
Hello Ben! I hope you are doing well. Glad to see this comparison. Where is the GMC Canyon? It is interesting how these trucks look on the interior compared to how they were in the 1990's and early 2000. What is also interesting these midsize trucks are as big as what full-sized trucks once were. I bet it took some effort to get those trucks together. I like the digital gauges in them as well. I would take the Chevrolet or Ford because you did not include the GMC Canyon. Ford is aiming to be the F150 of this segment.
Nissan Frontier for sure XD-4. But finding a fully loaded Frontier in deep south Alabama is impossible!
Why are they hard to find?
@@meme-bj1pe
CrewCab Pro-4X
Gun Metallic with Leather.
I do not want add-on leather.
I want it from the factory.
I’ll just wait until the 2025 is out and the body style has changed.
I was told by 2 dealerships that it can still come with the V-6 and there are other engine configurations as well.
But I want the V-6
Thank you for asking.
Tl;dr
Buy whatever you want. They’re all pretty damn good at this point
I’m getting either an xlt or lariat ranger with the fx4 package and the 2.7 ecoboost. Reliable platform as proven in other markets, and a reliable power train as proven here on its bigger brother the F-150. The 2.7 is going to really make it stand out in the segment. Especially since I plan on lifting it with bigger tires, the extra power will help. I can’t wait. Just need to decide on trim. Really hate the wheels on the lariat as asymmetrical wheel design is just dumb, and really don’t understand the turn key of the xlt but it’s really not bad coming from an xl 2008 f150 lol. Even having just the remote start is an upgrade for me
Loving my 23 Colorado ZR2! Had a 23 Frontier pro4x paid 46k for it. Found the seat to be very uncomfortable and off road capable without putting money into it limited. When I started at my current dealership I traded it for my ZR2 paid 49k for it. For me and my opinion it’s night and day better than the frontier was. The wife and kid enjoy it so much more. I love what it can do off road without having to modify my daily. I’m the end think it’s great we have options now! I have no need for a full size truck. Now I’m not forced to pay for something I can’t justify.
Mid-size trucks and solid V-6 were made for each other. I know the Ranger is getting the Eco 2.7 but for now the Frontier is prob best overall for a good usable smaller truck
Nismo ftw!!!!
If the ranger XLT had push button start it would be my choice. I know, that seems like a dumb omission but ive come to love it from my acura
I tried the tacoma off rd, really liked it. Tried a ranger xlt sport, bought it, all the options and a crew cab, felt strong and 10g cheaper. They key is dumb but not a deal killer
Which one has the quietest ride and which one would you prefer if you had to do a long highway drive, comfort wise?
Honda Ridgeline
I need a midsize truck for towing and hauling (payload) duties. Unfortunately, the Frontier and Tacoma suffer in these areas compared to the GM twins and the Ford Ranger, particularly regarding payload. Despite valuing reliability, I need function and capability in a truck!
I’m with you I want the Tacoma but I need capability I wish the Ranger had an available 6ft bed.
Then get a half ton. These are midsize trucks.
@@theoutdoordad7395 agreed. If I could find 1500 lbs of payload and a 6’ bed, I would be all in. Frontier and Tacoma can provide the 6’ bed, but not the payload.
@@pnwdweler4100 it is possible to do 1500 lbs of real world payload in a 4WD/AWD mid-size truck, but I have not seen one Tacoma (or Frontier) with that type of payload.
V6 ❤
Ben has "3-way" on his mind. haha
LOL
I pretty much agree with Bens rankings. Although The Colorado and Frontier are a second place tie. Ranger is #1, slightly. Toyota for me is definitely in last place. I know people love them but I don't understand why? It is boring and cheap looking inside compared to the others IMO. It may be a reliable truck but it looks totally uninspiring for me. The other three are very close. I'd be happy with any of those three.
frontier all day… now
I liked my mini trucks but this class disappeared cause it was over shadowed by the full size trucks ... and I think it has not done enough to split itself from them ever since.
these are all great vehicles and I would consider them in the mid 30's but with pricing in mid 40's and with current payments, might as well just look into full size trucks ...
but well optioned full sizes are also inflated to 70 grand or more. I don't know if leg room is worth 20-33 grand more.
I think you may change your mind when you start pricing full-sized trucks.
The only time I'd buy a Ford is if i had to choose between it and a Dodge
All I think of is how many old rangers like early 2000s old, and Tacomas you see every day. Will these trucks be that prevalent in 20-25 years is what I always wonder.
Still have my '06 Ranger. That 4.0 V6 won't die. Those old trucks are lightweight, skinny and manoeuvrable on trails, but still hauls junk around in a proper 6' bed. The new compact and midsize segments just don't do it for me.
@@cassieudy5718 I had an 03 ranger with that 4.0. Had over 300k miles and someone pulled out in front of me and totaled it. I have an 03 taco now with 296k miles… can’t kill those early 2000s trucks for sure with basic maintenance they run forever and yes I love the maneuverability of them and super easy to get in any parking spot👍
LOL at how the Ford and Chevy sound. Taco sounds the best of the turbos. Frontier sounds badass.
Frontier and Gladiator are the only two midsize trucks that have naturally aspirated power remaining. I will resist turbocharged engines as long as I can.
The truck market has become weird. These "midsize" trucks have all gotten too big. For me, the best truck in this size is (bizarrely enough) a regular cab, 2 door F150 with the 6.5' bed.
Configured that way, the F150 actually has a shorter wheelbase than all of these trucks, while being the same length, maybe even an inch or so shorter. It's a hair wider at the mirrors, but the turning circle is still smaller, and you get the 5.0 V8 under the hood, and stronger components everywhere else. More bed space, more payload, more towing, more manoeuvrability, and the same foot print.
How important is that back seat, really? Maybe truck owners would be better served by a minivan?
Sorry but for the $ you might as well take the luxurious GMC Canyon. I wouldn’t put that truck next to these either because it’s a landslide when it comes to exterior and interior design when the Canyon is being compared🤷♂️
I agree with Toyota being down further because the interior feels and looks cheap unless you get the Pro, and the Ranger interior is also sub par unless you get the Raptor version as well, also a vertical touch screen makes the reverse camera HORRIBLE.🤷♂️
Nissan is the real winner at its price point.
Looks are subjective, but that Chevy looks great. The Ranger looks like a Maverick, and the Taco just looks....old.
Frontier Pro-4X all day long. Just watch… the Fronti will be more reliable.
I hate getting ripped off. So no to Toyota. In Canada we can’t get a short box auto unless we add the 11k premium package. Going with the same theme of being ripped off no to the Ford because they still give us a key and non-push start at still a high price. That leaves a Chevrolet Colorado and Nissan.
Ridgeline enters room, turns on light...
all so close, at this point it comes down to which one I think looks better, and which one I think will last the longest and be the most reliable... any random internet dude thoughts on this?
Huge Tacoma fan, and I agree with the rankings although Chevy is a hard pass. At work we drive nothing but Chevy vehicle, and every one has had SIGNIFICANT reliability issues.
Toyota tax is crazy
Probably most people didn't get the memo from Toyota. Sound like Tacoma is becoming their new luxury or high end truck compare to other brands. Why not? They are still many not smart buyers willing to pay for it regardless of any MSRP or markup 😂 If you are a current owner, probably not for you anymore 😅😊.
Definitely would take the Tacoma.... last
Internet folks always say "Frontier" but if you go around and talk to people actually buying and using their trucks, it never comes up. It's a strange scenario as it gets a lot of positive conversation on youtube and forums, but that doesn't really seem to translate to actual sales. For my personal experience right now I prefer the Colorado, simply because the engine is so strong and the interior is so refined. But you really can't go wrong with any of these units.
FRONTIER!!!
@@jhardwood6960 🤣
Exactly. Well said. The internet clan worships everything Frontier.. don't know why Exactly nothing show stopping and they are trying to push the same price as the others with the exception of the clowns at toyota. Maybe Nissan hired 1000 people to go talk about how awesome their truck is, meanwhile none of them actually will buy one LOL
I think Nissan is paying for a fan base and internet posters tbh
No and no. The Colorado was slower than both the Ranger and the Tacoma in multiple tests, and the interior is chintzy as hell.
Ford and Nissan.
😂
@@thewireman134 🤣🤣
If you count the Raptor, Ford is way in front. But then again, a Raptor is the absolute cheat code of all cheat codes when it comes to truck handling dynamics.
I picked the Ford Ranger as well. Though I think it also has a more refined engine and transmission than you did. And while the Colorado has the most HP and torque, it's not the fastest. I saw another video where they dragged raced these trucks, and the Ford was the quickest to 60 mph and the fastest in the quarter mile. I think that is mainly due to rear end gearing. The Ford also gets the best mpg probably due to the 10 speed automatic.
I also agree that the Ford has the most comfortable seats. I was originally going to buy a Colorado until I test drove both and found out the Colorado does not have height adjustment for the front passenger seat. It sits too low and makes it feel like you are sitting in a hole as the arm rest are too high. Plus the softer cloth seat material is MUCH nicer in the Ford than the rough material offered in the Colorado. Beyond that, there are only minor trade-offs in features and capabilities between to the two trucks.
As for the Nissan, I will never own another one again. The Nissan I had was the worst and most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. It was in the shop everytime I turned around. So I do not buy into the import quality hype like most sheep do.
Colorado is quicker LOL
"hype" = objective reliability reports compiled over five decades
@lockandloadlikehell - nope. From personal experience knowing people that own various import brands. The same channel that did the drag race also tested a new Tacoma on an off-road, which broke the front axle. It was the Colorado that helped pull the Tacoma out from where it was stuck.
@mikegranthe7440 I literally laughed when I read that you didn't like how the Colorado front passenger seat couldn't have the height adjusted. And???? If you are driving, the drivers seat is what matters. The passenger needs to sit there, not mimick the driver. People find the weirdest things to nitpick.
@elche1976 - I am married and retired. So my wife and I are planning on doing some traveling in this new truck, and she will be riding in the passenger seat for long periods of time. I am not so inconsiderate as not to take passenger comfort into account for that reason.
Plus, another option I preferred with the Ranger is the sandstone colored cloth seats. I do not like all black interiors because one, it's drab looking, and two, when you live in Texas, black materials and dark colors absorb the summer heat like a magnet. Which is why I also prefer cloth to leather. I think those are fairly legitimate reasons to base my decision on.
V6>>> 4 cylinder
Based on what? I live in the North Wind River Range in Wyoming and I drive at elevation every day. A turbo is a gazillion times better at altitude. 80k in o my turbo Ranger. Not a single issue. Tons of low end torque and no loss of power in the mountains . Yeah no thanks on NA engines ever again.
Toyota will succumb to ford in the mid size truck wars.
Don't bet on it. Toyota fanboys have been buying those obsolete Tacomas for the past decade. They ain't stoppin now.
You missed the mighty GMC Canyon …. Without the Canyon there is no competiton
Bro it’s based on 46k the canyon is a upscale Colorado so it’s going to be more expensive
Nissan reliability record is trash that shouldn’t be ignored.
Colorado drives and sounds like a tin can compared to the others.
Love how the ridgeline isnt on here, trash truck 😂
No way, Ranger smoked them all in 0 to 60, plus the Ranger was first in adapting the turbo 4! Ranger is first for me!
adopting a turbo isn't a plus lol
15 years now that ranger will be long dead or almost, while the frontier will be running 9/10ths
Just cause it's faster doesn't mean it's better....
I drove the new trd offrd, then the ranger xlt bought the ranger. Way more truck for the money. Both similarly equipped the ranger was 40140 the trd was 49597 . Both nice , toyota rode a little more plush but not 9g better. Seen to many dead Colorados on flat beds to consider them.
Who buys a midsize truck to drag race?😂
