My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

When the dealer laughed at me for not buying and telling him I'd wait the market out until they lowered prices, he didn't believe my willpower. It's been two years, and I WILL NOT buy a car that was $30k a few years ago for $50k. You can go kick rocks. Edit: I just looked up the car I've been wanting for awhile, and it looks like the price did go down a little. I'll just keep waiting. haha.

The whirr of an electric motor is not what sold the Mustang to the public. It was the classic design and the roar of the ICE. There's a real reason that Toyota refuses to play along with the EV craze. EVs just don't add up. They're an untried technology that have too many problems on their own let alone not having the infrastructure. What good is a vehicle that creates more environmental problems before it even gets on the assembly line? It's all about the politics of power and control and not anything to do with the environment. Electric vehicles just don't fit in and don't make any sense.

The automotive industry needs a new business model where:
    1. The customer orders the vehicle directly from the manufacturer
    2. The vehicle is customized by the customer and priced accordingly.
    3. The vehicle is manufactured after the customer submits a down payment.
    4. Customer waits.
    5. The vehicle is delivered to the customer.
The days of high volume / low margin are over for the personally owned vehicle market. The automotive industry needs to focus on build to order, product quality and an open architecture for upgrades with after market, non-safety critical, features, such as consoles, heated seats, etc. The customers drive the market, not the government or the industry. Failure to adapt is certain bankruptcy.

So instead of thousands of dealers competing for your business you want to narrow that down to maybe 4-8? That makes zero sense. Also who's going to take your trade? Most people have no idea how hard it is to sell a vehicle on your own. Let alone when everyone else is doing it. If you're upset dealers charged over MSRP don't shop at them. There's literally thousands to pick from. Nobody is forcing you to pay a certain price. Shop around, wait ect. People who are not part of the industry have no idea what direct sales means. Trust me. I've heard horror stories about customers ordering Ford Mavericks and they didn't order with cruise control. Dealer just took the order exactly how customer wanted. And customer was upset it didn't have it. They choose to order direct and that's the result.

The nautilus is super nice. Unfortunately, Ford built it in China. Which gives China even more of our intellectual property on how we are able to have such a nice fit and finish on our vehicles. That said the nautilus is probably the nicest Lincoln I’ve ever driven. I have a 2019 Nissan 370Z 6MT sport coupe that I got for about $33K. It's been a great car and lots of fun to drive. I've gotten at least 3 offers from Nissan dealers over the past few years to sell my car back. Curious about the market, I checked Kelly Blue Book and was astounded at the prices for this car on the used market. The new Z car that replaced my car last year is priced easily in the $50k to $70K range with obscene dealer markups. In talking to a salesman at a Nissan dealer one day, I was told that they can't figure out why the new Z is not selling. He told me that prospective buyers who approach the car walk away after reading the prices on the windows. I told him that I wouldn't be interested in spending $30K more for a car that is not even as good as the one I have.

They didn't drive up the prices, the government money printers did. We are going thru massive inflation right now because of record money printing. Everything is costing more. I can't read these comments. People are so clueless.

Looked at a lighting a while back, because I was curious, and it was a basic one with nothing added on from what it looked like, market adjustment added had it at 120k. Left and never looked back. Kinda glad to see them starting to go down for the gas f150. Gonna keep waiting 😅

You are right about Trade journals. Manufacturers probably pay advertising. Motor Trend magazine in 1983 and 84 had Renault Alliance then the Renault Fuego as Motor Trend cars of the year.

I remember before covid when you get get a bottom trim F150 for $23k, full loaded was about $60k, mediocre was about $40k. Now they want $60-$90k. Oh but wait, they will finance you for 8 years to make if “affordable”. I remember when 5 year car loans was a long time. But you know what? There is a sucker born every minute. Someone will be dumb enough to pay it.
The smart ones will wait out to market for the prices to drop. Dealers laugh now, however it doesn’t cost anything for customers to wait. Its their loss.

We ordered 40 Lightning, took 1 for a 5 week trial across divisions, everyone hated it so we cancelled all 40. Ford was begging us to take them, but there is zero chance we were going to take delivery of the trucks as they are clearly not ready for the market.

Meanwhile Tesla sold almost 1 million vehicles in 2021.
Then they sold 1.3 million in 2022.
In 2023 they sold 1.8 million cars and SUVs.
      See where this is going?

Bingo. People are not anti EV. They are anti crappy EVs sold for the price of a kidney.
In Europe we have plenty of propositions for decent EVs from 22 to 45 K€ & they sell. Automakers in N Am have lost the plot.

@@dvader3263 The wealthy virtue signalers have all made their purchases. Now get ready for the slowdown. No nationwide infrastructure for EVs, 30% of the chargers don't work, they suck in very cold climates, and the range still blows. The consumer wants hybrid/gas vehicles at a lower price point. BTW, your EV is going to be worthless after about 5-6 years. Nobody in their right mind is going to want a used battery powered car when the battery is on its last legs.

I told them I'm not buying a vehicle that's almost same price as my house!! And a payment 2x my mortgage

Thanks for the video, Brandon. I have a question regarding the incentives being offered to the dealers that you mentioned just before the 9 minute point. You said the dealers are being offered $750 to $1,500 per truck sold. But right before that you had said that Ford has their vehicles priced too high, and that's why they have the back-log of vehicles. So, how does a dealer move a truck people can't afford to get the incentive money?
