I have sent my 5 back 24/09/24 , saying the bit rate was a problem for me, DJI sadly didn't say a update was in the pipeline, as then I would have kept it. We will have to see. I'm sure the 5 is fine for many users. I need every bit of quality I can get.
After purchasing the OA5 I got a little worried after hearing about the bitrate issue. So I did my own tests comparing with OA4. By pixel peeping I've found the OA5 with lower bitrate had more detail than the OA4. So I'm not too worried.
I hope they adjust the color science a bit since it seems a bit too much HDR in harsh scenes where you have bright skies and trees. It's like the trees are glowing
May I ask you. Is the Dlog M lut the same D Log M lut I use onmy DJI Mavic 3 Classic. Or is there a specific one for the Action 5? Thank you for the video. I've watched it few times.
I'm not sure if they are exactly the same, but for this video I was using the Pocket 3 D-Log M LUT on the Action 5 footage. These days I'm using the Osmo Action 5 Pro D-Log M LUT (they've made it available for download), but it has the exact same effect. But it is worth trying them both and seeing if there's any difference as I didn't try the Mavic 3 Classic D-Log M LUT.

Wonder if the new SOC will allow for custom scripts or third party code implementation, being as its Qualcomm. Imagine for instance being able to download and install a piece of code that introduces background blure.
Hey great footage! Do you feel like for biking videos (with a backpack mount) and walking videos, horizon balancing would be better? Wondering if you've ever had any issues with jitters using Horizon Balancing in these cases too. I have a backpack mount for my action camera but you can definitely tell that theres more oscillations as opposed to being handheld. Going to do a few walking and biking videos in japan with the camera mounted to my backpack (using a falcam F38 arca swiss compatible backpack mount).
Thanks! Horizon balancing makes a lot of sense in those situations since if you don't hold or mount it level you'll end up with a wonky video. However it does limit the FOV. I'm still experimenting with the different stabilization options but I do use HB for backpack mounting because it's hard to know if the camera is level. The amount of jittering in RS and HB should be pretty similar but I haven't compared them. Good luck with your videos!
Great vid thx. Your walking footage at the end shows me Ace Pro (1) is likely still superior in low light and HDR. Would like to see a side by side, also with Ace Pro 2 upcoming.
We'll have to wait for the firmware update and see how much of a bump we get in bit rate and if they fix the white balance. I ended up getting the Action 4 which is already an amazing little camera, I don't think it's worth the upgrade. Not sure what DJI were thinking when adding "Pro" to it.
It's the fact they called it "pro" while delivering visibly less resolution during fast movement through high entropy scenes vs OA4, rather embarrassing.
I went from my gopro 11 to the action 5 and used it for the first time today. I was bummed the standard view is very wide. I use 90 percent of the time Linier which is great. Is there somehow another option. Your footage looks liner wide to me. Like my gopro.

Night mode is real cool but the insane iso and noise reduction is too much. @@captureguide Yes it is and it's ok. I thought in the beginning it was much wider but it's ok. I take that back. Perhaps it is wider than gopro liner but there is not warping.
How long does it take to colour grade with the DJI Lut? Say if you have a 5 min clip, is it as easy as just apply the LUT downloaded from the DJI website to the clip like a preset colour profile in a couple of seconds?
I have a Pocket 3 and had been using Adobe Premiere Elements, but that doesn't support LUTs so I have started to use Davinci Resolve - that's an amazing piece of software. Once the LUT is downloaded and copied to the right place, it's simply a project setting to apply. Definitely worth using dlog m.
Very quick, you just have to apply the LUT in the Colors tab of Davinci Resolve. Not sure about other software. As @BeautifulNorfolk pointed out, you will have to add/import the LUT to Davinci the first time round.
Hope the next update fixes the over exposure issue. While the low light footage is great compared to other cameras it seems to stuggle in intense light compared to other cameras.
It looks muddy and compressed in areas. Might be ISO noise, but some of the video is to bright for it to be noise. Opicaly it should be able to produce nice frames, maybe take photos of the same area you film for comparison?
Not only will battery life be impacted at higher bitrates but overheating may also be a factor as to why they went with a lower bit rate in the first place... :)
This was backpack mounted, on the right strap. Hence why all the footage is slightly offset to the right. I also have a chest mount and am considering getting a neck mount.
@@markr041 actually the sharpness setting we had on the A4 os gone and they changed it to TEXTURE -2 to +2. at normal10bit recordings i had that weird HDR cartoon look in some scenes. with texture to -2 that appears to be finally gone and we get a much cleaner look like the gopro13. i will test it today.
i just recorded 2 clips side by side and its exactly as i said. texture in custom settings to -2 results in a cleaner less HDR like video. very good! thats what most people want i think

When you call it pro that means we can choose the bitrate, Sure add the lower option but also give us the option to use the highest bitrate possible even if it means cutting battery life and reducing record time on storage. I am certain this decision was made due to the internal storage option added, I am using SD card anyway and do not care about internal storage. I am glad they listened.
The storage is a byproduct of the SCO which requires memory to operate. In other words, the SOC is sitting on C drive which has been allocated 17gb, the leftover storage is partitioned to use as sd storage. This is my understanding
Well, I have to say that the Action5 has done a pretty good job so far. In my opinion, it's even a bit better than the Hero13 (I've also uploaded a video of the Hero13 4k60fps to my channel). I'm not sponsored or anything, I'm just lucky enough to know an influencer. If I had to pick a winner at the moment, it would clearly be the Hero13, even though it has a few weak points. The Action5's battery is great, as are the 2 OLED displays. It runs more smoothly than the GoPro. But the image is what counts, and here the Action5 is still "I say still because DJI is sure to bring out an update" a tad behind the Hero13.

But DJI seems to have placed more emphasis on vlogging and long battery life. With the Same High Bitrate the Action5 would probably not run at all and would only overheat
@@JuiceBiker You're jhoking. Once they issue the bitrate fix in the firmware update, it'll be back up to at least 100. Better DR, better resolution, better lowlight, better sensor, full stop, better audio. It's not even close.
@@JuiceBiker I Didn't say it was a mistake, and DJI said it was a deliberate move. They have acknowledged that there should be an option for a higher bitrate. They say greater processing ability means the same quality can be achieved with lower birate.
The problem with the newer DJI cameras is the wide setting makes everything look too small. The normal setting is better. Really looking forward to those osmo pocket 3 and iPhone comparisons. At least the pocket 3 will offer a natural smaller field of view which should look better.
Hmm, it's a tough one because action camera users often want an ultra wide field of view. People complained about the Ace Pro's FOV being too narrow compared to GoPro and Osmo Action.

i did one days ago. not worth the effort. i can tell you the footage looks kinda OK but far away from anything usable. which is fine for some olks. but the stabilizer doesnt work at night. makes the footage shaky and add vibrations even the cam was chest mounted. if you want i can toss it over.
DJI is listening to customer requests. Many people were crying about low bitrate and swearing off buying the Action 5 Lro because of that. Guess they need to find a new reason to not buy it.
The Ace Pro 2 is going to eat this camera for dinner, unless the Action 5 seriously addresses the over-sharpening and jittery artifacts in this new camera. I have nothing against DJI, I love my pocket 3, but this new release needs major tweaking to look good. Out of box in night mode it’s so over sharpened it’s insane.

Most of the footage was taken with the Osmo Action 5 Pro in D-Log M with the official DJI LUT applied. No editing!

Hmm, I think Standard (Dewarp) is as narrow FOV as you can get.

Not buying until I see that there is a fix and significant difference in image quality.
for a camera this size the dji5pro is amazing...i renember my old sony hd ready camcorder it was 7-10 times bigger and the lowlight was veery bad.

2:29 picture quality falls apart in the park when the camera struggles to keep highlights and shadows in check. Really disappointing release tbh.
