I've been holding out getting an action camera since GoPro8 and was taken by the Action3 back then, and kept holding out. I've had the Action4 in my cart several times and just didn't make the purchase and held out more. Today, I am so glad that I held out! The action5 just seems incredible for me. 4 hours record time and 20 meter waterproofing without a case plus syncing between 2 DJI mics? Anything more than that is just pixel peeping. This is perfect. Thanks for the review!
I bought the action 4 about 2 months ago , I just couldn’t stand my GP8 anymore . I’ve been happy with my purchase. Normally I would’ve been upset of a new camera coming out right after purchasing the previous model however, this time I have no regrets since the image quality and battery life on the action 4 is so much better than the GP8 .
@@keaganfouche1544 the ability to use 2 wireless mics is such a game changer. DJI has really done a good job of integrating this technology across their products to make it SO much easier to make better content.
I think the reason I love this channel is because you do the reviews over multiple days and give us tons of use cases and opportunities to see the product in action.
this is the first time i'm impressed by an action cam in years. i have absolutely no need need for an action cam but even that a-roll of you on the pier is making this a tempting buy for video creation.

i'm in same boat. i use these to mount to primary camera rig for bts, and ofc historically the low light has totally sucked. this A5 seems like a winner for several little useful reasons.

As someone who uses a mic inside my helmet the 4 hour battery and the fact that I already have the dji mics from my pocket 3 this is a for sure purchase
I was waiting for the Action 5 for that very reason. Bluetooth mic (of course the 4 has it but buying the new one is always better i guess) and magnetic mount makes it so much more easier for motovlogging. I have put my gopros on the market. Have to take a loss but better than being frustrated with random freezing, jerky video when panning, heavier camera, cash grab of an accessory (mediamod or even the older audio adapter) and poorer battery life.
@@Whatreally123 yeah the battery life is what sold me to make the change he .. luckily my 12 never really gave me freezing issues but I could barely make it to an hour and yeah u need the media mod which is a pain since u need to remove the sd card.. that’s why I stuck with the adapter just easier to work with. I agree with Carrie, gooder is not a word. And that’s crazy you were able to film for so freakin long!!! Think it’s safe to say, the Action 5 is officlly more gooder than the GoPro.

DJI Action 5 Pro, looking pretty useful. Waiting for the DJI Mini 5 Pro (or Mini 4 Pro drone next gen equivalent), and your review video!
Okay, I'm convinced. The Action 5 Pro is significantly much better than the Action 4, most especially with the low light test comparison, so the price difference even after discounts is worth it.
It's very nice. But man, other than the "Inside the Car" scene (where the camera on the right looked like a beauty filter) - they all looked very good. It's a testament to the awesome time we're living in .
Been a GoPro user since the 4. Had every camera up to the 10. I didn’t see any improvement from 10-13 so never upgraded. Battery expanded and broke my 10(in my climate controlled home). Jumped to action 5 and couldn’t be happier. Instant on is actually instant. Battery life means I bring a backup battery but that’s it. I don’t need to make sure I have a charging solution. I record 4k 4:3 to reframe in post as needed. Covers all my needs and doesn’t randomly freeze or overheat. I miss the cloud storage. I would pay DJI for a similar service to backup all my media and be able to share links to it to my friends so they can get the raw footage easier.
Looking PRO with that MTB gear! Low light is definitely my #1 problem when filming, if it can keep hardcore stabilization in low light then I've gotta get this.
No bro not really, low light using eis sucks, just got mine today and tested it using my ebike, pretty cloudy today and my footage is super muddy, my hero 11 shoots better, the HDR effect to fake the “13 1/2 stops of dinamic range “ looks fake on a cloudy day, unacceptable 50mbps on 4K 24fps action 5 pro just suck, my hero 11 shoots 120mbps 4K 24fps, don’t get hyped Brian!
Nice one Gene! In my battery test I got 2 Hours 20 Minutes indoors on a hot day in 4K 30P / 16:9 sitting on a shelf indoors. Seems like some airflow helped your cause in getting even more!

I prefer the richer texture and the fact that Gopro looks more like a real camera rather than its low-light performance.
Bye Bye GoPro, it's been fun using you....well (kind of). As a long time GoPro user we've been warning them of the competition for a few years but with the 13 you can see they haven't taken us seriously. Great to see this competition between all of the brands, it's great for us consumers.
So much battery life in an action cam is absolutely mind blowing, especially with such specs. It would be awesome to see DJI make a full frame camera as well, would love to see that!
Ok, that was a great way to illustrate the difference between 32 bit float and no 32 bit float. There is a clear difference in quality. This video is one your better ones. Good job.
Okay, I'm 3:56 minutes in and would say the 'middle' shot is 'generally' my preferred image (I'll assume GoPro 13). Clearly, the one on the left does much better in low light (i'll assume the Action 5 Pro), and not sure what's on the far right. And before we go further I would say it depends on what you shoot (I don't shoot much low light video)...okay...back to the video.
This is the first time I really appreciated the blind test. I thought DJI did really bad and left one was something other than DJI. DJI didn't change the sensor size but they actually brought really good upgrade over action 4.
This is the best review I’ve seen for this action camera. The split screen and straight to it no fluff. I think I will finally upgrade to this from my DJI action 2. Thanks for the real life scenario review 👍🏼

EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDDDDDDDDDDDDD Such a review! We choose based on quality not about the brand. GoPro actually came back great with v13 but still DJI outshined it
DJI looked the best, hands down. Better DR, better auto WB, better colors (mostly), wildly better low light. Only thing i WISH the Action had is a 400fps mode like the GoPro. That's a cool feature, considering how hard it is to find any camera that can do more than 120/240Fps.
That's my biggest gripe too. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if the digital sharpness wasn't so aggressive. I don't love that the hero 13 is basically the 12 with a different battery, but it still looks the best imo
I've been on Gopro since the Hero 2.....I finally swapped to Dji because I'm tired of Gopro bugs. They just always powered off or my clips would be corrupted I couldn't handle it anymore. DJI drones are so good that I trust I will enjoy my action 5

Love my 3 and 4 as a combo for moto vlogging, still great cameras but this is a step up again especially in low light. Low light is not a priority but two mics on one camera is interesting as is the battery compatibility with 3 and 4 and the new battery capacity.
As someone who doesn't really know anything about cameras, why did the GoPro footage at 2:00 look like that? Which one would actually be more realistic? Is it that the DJI is adding a ton of processing?
The freckles/blemishes in our skin are visible in UV. THE GoPro’s sensor seems to be “reading” the UV light, too. A UV filter should fix this. The GoPro can definitely have a use case for UV photo/videography.
i still prefer the look of the gopro overall, for my usecase (which is FPV during daytime, mostly). it has way less digital sharpness, nicer highlight rolloff, nicer colors SOOC, greater dynamic range it feels like.. it's the better image in my opinion, since it just doesn't look like it's coming from an action-cam comparing it to the DJIs.
I took the blind test and found the one on the left exactly what I've looking for....and I just bought the Action 4, looool...But I bought it last week so I'm taking it back and getting the Action 5 because of this here video!
@@01ananto Its the processing that most reviewers are able to objectively show are better. Whether you agree or not the objective facts aren't affected by your opinion.
I always enjoy your videos, but I am questioning the image coming from the Hero 13. I agree, left wins in almost every shot, but the middle looks quite a bit less clear than the left or the right. On my Hero 13 in 5.3k it is definitely clearer than my action 4 in side by sides. Just a comment, no hate. That low light though 😮. I’ll have to see it compared the Ace Pro, because that’s a beast in low light too. Thanks for the video as always!
Sharpness was on minimum on all cameras, gopro seems to really have no sharpness added, while DJI probably still adds some. Much more pleasing image on gopro IMO
Nice! I rock an action 4 and switched to the wireless MIC in the helmet as soon as that feature released. Battery life has me looking at the 5 really hard.
I am the only one who still prefers the image from the Action 4? Sure, the 5 beats it in low light, but during the daylight it's the least looking overly processed image. Even with sharpness on the Action 5 turned down, it still looks like its applying digital sharpening. Also If you pause the video at 3:45, look at the clouds. The action 5 totally loses the dynamic range details there while the Action 4 and Hero 13 retains it!
Great blind test, I preferred the left from the beginning. The middle had good colors as well but highlights were blown out and shadow detail severely lacking. I use a 4 entirely for underwater video and I'm very happy as I came from a GoPro10 with problems. I think the 5PRO with its better WB sensor will do better underwater than the the 4 and with a wide angle lens will probably do both pictures and video very well. For macro (small close up) my TG6 with strobe/snoot will always do better but for wide angle ambient light the 5PRO will probably do very well both video and photos.
Loved the Blind Test and that you factory reset every Camera to give a consumer friendly introduction. Just missed a little graded footage and what the Action 5 is capable of with proper grading.
I loved the "blind taste test" if you will, letting us evaluate which one looked best without knowing who made what. Excellent video.

100% agree. This helped me recognize some of my own biases, and ask what's important to me in an action cam.
