It is true that the awkward moment has not been shown in this clip, that was earlier. The presenter asked about the background of the ring and PF (the guy with the ring) stated it was in his Grandmothers jewelry box. The presenter then appearing awkward himself said 'these are often found by metal detectorists' .
They then showed a zoomed in view of the underside of the ring and the presenter went on to say 'and look there's still some mud left underneath it'. It appeared that the ring had not been cleaned well enough.
Now an interesting point about PF is he is in fact a metal detectorist and until he sold his land a farmer, not the poor man that many think in this comments section. Who would have thought that ? 😂🤣😂
When a metal detectorist finds an artefact that is gold or silver and over 300 years old in the UK they have to be declared as treasure. In effect they belong to the state unless disclaimed by the state (which does happen). The finder is then given a 'fair market valuation' as compensation. That is the law in the UK.
However it is generally well known that this 'fair market valuation' is well below what will be achieved at auction. This motivates some individuals to attempt to circumvent the process.
      I wonder what PF's motivation were ?
I can only speculate as to the character of an individual prepared to offer the provenance that he did in front of 4m viewers on a Sunday evening.
This is an excellent example of how manipulation can take place on the internet. A short section of material can give a completely false impression as to the background to anything.

I know how this man feels almost. A close friend of mine lost his entire life's work, house and savings to a conman and was broke for 7 years. He ate peanut butter sandwiches for a year to survive. His health took a bashing. He got a job, got bullied, had nervous breakdowns and lived on $15 a day. His big treat was a coffee at Starbucks and a movie on weekends when he could afford it. One day he bought a lottery ticket on a whim and 3 days later I was with him when he decided to check his prize. He'd won half a million dollars. He broke down and cried and cried and cried and was speechless. 7 years of hell were over. The conman went to prison, came out and continues to con people and my friend was lucky but went through 7 years of punishment while the conman enjoyed 3 square meals and upon release puts others in prison on the outside. But I'll never forgot my friend's awkward loss for words. Still remains the humble and nice guy he always was.

The appraiser informed the woman, the piece, theoretically, could've been owned by one of the Founding Fathers, and was worth $17,000 USD, but had her husband not refinished it, it would have been worth $200,000 - $300,000 USD.

The most awkward Roadshow moment I ever saw was from the U.S. version -- the Keno brothers were talking to this very old, retired judge about this enormous antique cabinet he had brought in. They were gushing over it and telling him who built it, where it was made, the woods, the craftsmanship, its rarity, etc. and building up to the value and the old man just could have cared less. They finally tell him it's worth like $150,000 and he's like, "OK, I want to go now," and he wandered off the stage with an irritated look on his face. I watched it on PBS when it premiered, probably 20 years ago now. I have searched the Internet for it several times but never found the clip.

Absolutely stunned the audience was, totally amazing ability, you could have heard a pin drop in the theatre, this revalation that the pipe had been in a man's mouth literally left the attendees gobsmacked!

Nah, the most awkward Roadshow moment was when a clearly wealthy woman brought her collection of imported elephant ivory statuettes on to be valued, and she looked immensely pleased with them, until she was told that they were VERY illegal. She then remembered that they weren't really hers, and were just kinda family airelooms that she really wasn't too happy about. The Roadshow hung that woman out to dry, 8pm on Sunday night. Absolutely savage.

Was there an estimated value of this ring ?
One with a Tiny stone sold at aution for £20,000 so, comparative size would help ?

As others have said, it's not awkward beyond the man not being able to express everything he's feeling. The guy telling him the information should have asked him how he was feeling and commented that he must be pretty overwhelmed, thus giving the other man the freedom to let out some of his emotions. I suppose it might have been awkward for the interviewer, but he's used to seeing emotional people and should have been able to deal with an emotional guy who was overwhelmed.
