I came out when i was 19 to my Mother. Turns out, she asked me if i was gay. By then i was about to tell her anyway, so i said yes. Then she gave me a big hug, and said i LOVE YOU! Both my parents were just fine with it. What i would like to say to guys who are afraid to come out, just think of this. If you're in a loving family, and your parents have always told you they love you no matter what, i say come out. Parents tend to always surprise you, and never react they way you envisioned it. There will be that awkwardness for a bit, however it will be the best thing you will ever do in your life. For those who might think there parents may not accept you as you are after coming out, well, that's something they need to deal with, not you. Parents who toss their child out simply because they don't accept your lifestyle, they are the ones who failed as parents. I've seen it all, and let me tell you, even this does not end your relationship with your parents. Most Parents do come around, so have faith, and never ever think it's your fault. Be proud of you are, i know i am. :-)
good for you but my dad said if i ever bring home a boyfriend hes going to beat the shit out of me. at least im bi so mabey they will be ok with that aslong as im with a women.
Well you are an adult now, so thinking your folks will beat the crap out of you is absurd. Unless they're willing to go to jail. My opinion you're reading too much into it, just relax, stay calm, i'm sure things will be ok. Not saying things will be the same, they won't. However, your the same person prior to coming out, that hasn't changed. You are who you are, that doesn't change. Just remember, you are not alone, and millions of men and women are out there just like you. Always remember nothing is your fault, and you are not worthless. Best of luck to ya. :-)
ya im gonna tell them by video when i move out and my dad would probably still beat the crap out of me. hopfully ill be gone by the end of this or beggining of next summer they dont want me to leave home though they want their inhome babysitter.
Thank you for sharing this! We had a blast making this movie, and it's amazing to see the wonderful reactions people have to this scene. Thank you all! :)
I'm an open minded old guy. I only had three nice daughters. I understood the issue very late due to the practically ''military'' education I was brought up. And I asked myself many times what would had been my reaction as a dad in a situation like this at my 45's. I admire those parents!
your job as a parent is to love and nurture your children and accept them for who they are no matter what differences they have, if you cannot love your child for who they are and try and change them, I'm sorry but that's not good parenting

It's a real honest to gods shame all parents, siblings, family couldn't react like this. When my brother came out to me I looked at him & said "DUH!!!!" then gave him a hug & told him you're my brother, my blood & nothing will EVER change that. I loved him. He was my brother & always will be. Period.
It blows my mind that some parents react in any other way than this. If someday I have a son or daughter and they tell me that they are gay/lesbian, i wouldn't even think twice about it. I'd love him or her, but not in spite of the fact that they are gay/lesbian, because I would love them for who they are and being gay/lesbian is a part of that. I don't understand why some people don't think like that. I hope that by the time i'm old enough to be a parent things will have changed so people won't look at a gay couple and think "oh, that's a gay couple", they'll think "Oh, theres two people in love, how nice." Maybe thats just wishful thinking, but I can still hope. :)
If my kid was gay me an my husband would devise a plan, firstly calculating when and where they would come out. Then set up a trapdoor above the area (and if its outside send in a drone to drop it down), when hearing the words "I'm gay" and other, it would open revealing GLITTER BALLOONS and CONFETTI!I'll also put lasers everywhere so it can be like a rave! I'LL GET EM A CAKE THAT SAYS "THIS WAS YOUR CHOICE AND I HONESTLY PREFFER YOU TO BE AN ATHEIST LIKE YOUR MUM BUT OKAY." then i'll have a sign that contines to message, listing off hats wrong with Christianity.... just cuz I'm an hardcore passive aggressive atheist like that...
I came out to my mom about a month ago and this was her reaction (I had my friend who is gay tell her.... he just said 'your daughter is lesbian'") "really? Did she tell you that? Because she hasn't told me yet. No wonder she always says she doesn't have a boyfriend" *looks at me* "so do you have a girlfriend?"
I remember coming out to my aunt and my step-uncle. I was staying with them for a few days, and she made her amazing pasta and meatballs, and she was collecting up the plates and I wrote in the leftover tomato sauce "I'm gay'. She came out with some cake bites and chocolate sauce and she had written tin the sauce 'no duh!'
My mom reaction would have been: He can cook? So he can cook or not? I do not want that my little child starve! My dad would have said: it's your mom fault, is not? In any case...Go with the red wine!!!
If my kid said they were gay I'd probably ask them what they wanted for dinner. "Hey mom,I'm gay." "Awesome honey. If that's who you are I accept it. Now what do you want for dinner. Pasta? Should we order in?"

My parents probably have a feeling that I may be gay, cause I have so many other things I don't talk about. It would surprise me if they didn't know. I'm fine with it. Better be gay and with the one you love than be straight and alone.
Miles Alexandra Well, I would say your picture is cute, but I don't know how old you are, so I'll stop there. Im spiritual. Im not going to contradict your beliefs. I will say that homosexuality is not a choice, its a discovery which some people make at a very young age, or in their later years. Im 31, and I started noticing other guys around 21 years ago, but it was subtle and I just really kept focusing on girls. I was never really good with girls. They probably thought I was ugly and stupid. I don't think they ever grew out of it. Under their breaths anyway. I never gave up until recently. I just stopped seeing anything in them, and it wasn't worth shallowing out to win them over. It was natural that I just lost attraction to them. Im too genuine to stoop that low. Wasn't where I belong.
I think you just had a bad dream. I know I don't care to rape anyone. I don't believe that homosexuals have engaged in a lude act that heterosexuals haven't tried at least once. Try going to a gay bar with some friends and ask them to see for themselves by witnessing any suspicious activity by the "regular" crowd. Worst thing you could worry about is being hit on or thrown out for speaking against them. Just deal with your own sexuality. Live and let live.
This is how I wish my parents reacted. They told me never to come back home. Dad talked with me later, he said he was fine with everything no problems, but it was mom. I was surprised to hear him say that, I thought it would be the other way around.
I watched this like 100 times, each time it made me cry when his mother said it was okay. First time I saw this I was like wait the dad got money and his hand, he maybe wants to tell him move out and good luck with $100. Then it turns out it was a bet on when he was going to come out. lol
Hahaha I would sooo expect something like this from my family my mom and brother would be the ones making the bet though my sister already knows...maybe all them know...should I br worried 0.o
This movie is my Xmas eve tradition, ever since coming out 7 years ago, every year whether I'm alone or with a partner/family, I watch this movie, good times.
I wish I had the same reasons.. my mother is a teacher on religion in her school and my dad just plain conservative. but that wasn't the reason why I'm 27 yo and still haven't coming out from my parents. because my mother has high blood pressure and hospitalized couples of times because of it, and my father just got stroke last year after decades of struggling through the high blood pressure.. I'm afraid I'll just killed them by coming out..
My mom isn't supportive of these things either. I'm gay but my mom refuses to believe or accept it. My mom is very conservative and very religious and because of this she is against homosexuality. I have an older brother too and he knows that I'm gay but he is ashamed to have a gay sister. It hurts when your family doesn't accept you but when you have friends that accept and love for who you are it's all a person needs.
Thank you for sharing this! I know what to tell my dad when I fully come out to him, he appreciates honesty & even if it takes a wrong turn I'll just say that I'm being honest.
Beautifully done. I wish that I'd had the nerve to come out to my parents when I'd planned to....maybe it is for the best. My dad would have come around eventually but he would have needed time....time no one knew he didn't have. 5 months later he was gone. 28 Father's Day's later...I still miss him.
Wauw. I cried a very unexpected tear when the dad says "By telling us, you're proving what kind of man you are." ... I'm not gay myself, but I had this feeling that if I was, those would probably be the most wanted words from my dad. I don't know if I'm right about this though, i just realy felt it.
loved this video!:) When I came out I had to move out Years later my mom and my love were best friend! Give your parents time to come around. If they down it's up to you to make your own happiness.
We all wish parents were this understanding...unfortunately this isn't the case for many and it's sad how many should be shown love and not hate. I am so thankful that there are parents like this in the world.

Wasn't where I belong.
Miles Alexandra And you think that gay is demonic. :)
IYO. I know Im not demonic. I know Im into guys because Im compassionate for them and find a fair sum of them attractive. It just is what it is.
God's with you, old chap, not with those holier-then-thou fanatics.
Pure genius!
Aww my best friend came out n his parents through him a coming out party. They said the whole family knew just waiting for him to say the words.
When I first watched this I tot the parents didn't take it too well and was bummed until the reveal lol
I Love they way they look at eachother. its so cute!!
Then it turns out it was a bet on when he was going to come out. lol
he's my everything... cue the 'AWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE'
The world need to be recreated honestly
If my son/daughter ever comes out im gonna do the money thing
Hahaha I would sooo expect something like this from my family my mom and brother would be the ones making the bet though my sister already knows...maybe all them know...should I br worried 0.o
no, you should be happy that you know your family is supportive!
okay i would have died in that silence
This movie is my Xmas eve tradition, ever since coming out 7 years ago, every year whether I'm alone or with a partner/family, I watch this movie, good times.
I LOVE THIS SCENE
I wish it were easier to come out. My mom isnt supportive of these things though i know shell still love me. i just dont know how to say it....
you can search up some ways on youtube or on the internet it is a very helpful resource
As a straight male, I wish you the best of luck

Could you watch the movie "Prayers for Bobby" with your mum ? Perhaps she'll understand many things. Take care of yourself !
Netflix had this movie a couple of years ago and just recently I was trying to remember the title. Thanks for sharing!
Easily my new favorite thing
Thank you for sharing this! I know what to tell my dad when I fully come out to him, he appreciates honesty & even if it takes a wrong turn I'll just say that I'm being honest.
Beautifully done. I wish that I'd had the nerve to come out to my parents when I'd planned to....maybe it is for the best. My dad would have come around eventually but he would have needed time....time no one knew he didn't have. 5 months later he was gone. 28 Father's Day's later...I still miss him.
this is how all parents should act
Crying. This is beautiful
Wauw. I cried a very unexpected tear when the dad says "By telling us, you're proving what kind of man you are."
... I'm not gay myself, but I had this feeling that if I was, those would probably be the most wanted words from my dad.
I don't know if I'm right about this though, i just realy felt it.
Sometimes I wish I was straight and had a gay kid JUST so I could pull something like this on them!
I was praying it was going to be a bet i was waiting for the dad to give the mom the money i love it YES
This made me cry...
This made me cry so much
loved this video!:) When I came out I had to move out Years later my mom and my love were best friend! Give your parents time to come around. If they down it's up to you to make your own happiness.
this is so freaking awesome!!
i had to laugh so hard at the end of the video :D
That was just beautiful.
Love the fact she brought up grand children. My how far we have come. It's to late for my husband and I but the fact it's happening, wow!
We all wish parents were this understanding...unfortunately this isn't the case for many and it's sad how many should be shown love and not hate. I am so thankful that there are parents like this in the world.
this touched my heart.
I agree.
This is exactly how parents should react when their child comes out!
I just went and watched the film and then I watched it again I LOVE IT
