- In this video I spend the morning in the pouring rain at a local Orchard filming and photographing Green Woodpecker and Fieldfare from the Hokki V3 Groundhide by Tragopan. I am using my Nikon Z6 and Sigma 150-600mm lens.
Nice sharing.
Thank you ☺️
A really good watch.
Thank you Bob, I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I'm pleased you enjoyed the film.
nice 😀
Awesone Rich, a pleasure to watch! Beautiful footage and a cracking day to be in the Hokki hide! Green WP! What a bird 👍. Keep them coming R 👍
Cheers Rich, it makes me very happy to know you enjoyed it. What a bird indeed, I felt guilty cutting so much footage, the bird stayed in front of my lens for such a long time, it really was wonderful. The Hokki is awesome, I've been in it since in sub-freezing sleet and snow and it kept me warm and dry. I hope all is well with you, I'm waiting patiently to find out what these projects are you're working on. I'm sure it'll be very exciting mate. Stay well mate.
Superb video, I've never managed to get a really good shot of a green woodpecker , what a stunning elusive bird 👍
That’s most kind John, thank you. It was a real treat. The bird stayed in front of me for such a long time, the film could have been a lot longer! Testament to the hide really. You’re right, an absolutely stunning bird. I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for watching, Rich 👍
Ah now I know what you're up too :). Hmm if you in that kind of environments I highly suggest a Cinela kit with the Kelly rain protection. I guess no new lens this year :) Imagine all the great sounds you could have captured in the meantime waiting for the woodpecker to arrive.
Bingo! This is exactly why I want to get serious about my audio. I really want to create the most immersive videos I can. I spent 7 hours in a hide at the weekend waiting for Buzzards to come and all around me there was the most amazing sounds of birds and the wind and rain. The H6 captured it pretty well but I really want to deliver the best sound I can. Even when I take the dog for a walk I hear beautiful Owls and birds and I want to capture that.
I’ll take a look at the Cinela as you suggest
@@TheDevonOutdoorsman Cinela is premium and Philippe (owner) makes them all by hand in his studio in Paris. He can also customize the Cinelas to different microphone types. If you buy this kind of setup, you only buy one time. As I mentioned before I had a lot of trial and errors and these lesson's cost me a couple thousand $ in the first place. Now I'm super happy with what I have and don't want that other make the same mistakes if they are serious about sound recordings. You should also join the Field Recording Facebook Group if you have more questions about equipment.
Beatiful film, i only know about these birds because i currently have a male and female in my local cemetery i like to watch (if i can find the elusive things😂)
Hi Galvin, thanks for watching and for your kind words. Funnily enough, I saw a Green Woodpecker in a cemetery local to me fairly recently, it was perched on one of the headstones but sadly I didn’t have my camera. I wonder if there’s something about them they like?!?!?
I think its because their diet consists of ants, larvae and worms that sort of stuff is easy to find in a cemetery i think because of the mostly low cut grass its easier for them to see i believe
Beautiful video👍
Thanks for sharing....

Lovely video Rich. I'm still yet to see a Green Woodpecker, only seen a Great Spotted.
Thanks pal. They’re not as common as the GS so I was really lucky. 👍
Nice video, Like 48 and Greetings from Italy :)
Thank you Peri, lovely to have greetings from Italy. I hope you are well.
Absolutely beautifully captured. 🙂
Thank you very much Thomas. A far cry from the wonderful weather you had on your walk along the Spanish trail.
