- Looking for the Green Woodpecker can be a very difficult bird to photograph as like most Woodpeckers they are quite skittish.
I have not always had success photographing the Woodpecker, both the Green or the Great spotted. Will we do any better this time?
UK Wildlife and nature photography is always fun whatever happens.
Thanks for watching..... KG's Photography.

I know how you feel Keith. I go through periods like that and I think it’s because I’m trying to fill my cards to make videos. My best videos have often come from being patient, sitting around and waiting for good things to happen rather than trying to rush around and cover more places and larger areas. The latter often makes me feel frustrated and I’m second guessing all the decisions I make.
Enjoyed this video, the Green Woodpecker is a beautiful bird and really difficult to get close to. Would a small portable hide work? I really liked the picture of the Reed Bunting in the berry tree near the beginning of the video.
Thanks mate agree with everything you say. I have thought about a small hide but not easy most places I visit at the moment. Have invested in a small scrim net for now. Glad you like the Reed bunting, a lovely little bird. Thanks again. Cheers Keith.
I love wildlife 🖤📸
Also your video
Thank you Ritik
Captures the reality of wildlife photography really well. You have to put in the time to get the reward. I feel exactly the same, if it were easy it would be no fun. Another good film KG, well done.
Thanks Martin really appreciate you comment and support. Glad you enjoy. Cheers Keith
Great vlog Keith, shows all the effort we do to get shots of the wildlife. Keep up the good work Gem 👍🏻
Thanks Gem. It's just no fun if you don't have to do the hard work 😂 Cheers Keith
Another great video Keith love the colours of autumn pity the woodpecker did not want to play lol it’s so quiet there keep up the great work stay safe 👍👍
Thanks Michael. Yes I love the Autumn colours it's one of my favourite times of year. I do struggle with the woodpeckers and have captured some good images in the past but nothing recently. Stay safe, cheers Keith
Hi Keith I like the new intro and your filming and editing was really good to all of which takes a lot of time and effort. I've never seen a green woodpecker before but do see a few great & lesser spotted woodpecker's around in my neck of the woods. I think every man and his dog are struggling at the moment. Until next time take care and stay safe my friend.
Thanks Clive. I tried to do something a little different with the editing this time as I want to focus on quality not quantity. We get plenty of green woodpeckers around where I go and also spotted woodpeckers so they’re quite good to see. Sounds like I need to get myself a dog. Stay safe Cheers Keith.
Beautiful vlog 👍👍👍
Greetings from India 🇮🇳.
Thanks for sharing nature's wonder with us
Thanks for visiting and commenting.
Story of my life mate. Keep at it and one day you might find one sitting in front of you as you get out the car. You never know what will happen in this game. :)
Very true Malcolm the best things happen when you least expect it. Thanks for watching, cheers Keith.
Hi Keith,
Good video,
Wildlife photography takes a lot of patience as you know,
You can be at one spot for an hour or two, then decide to move,
You can bet when you do that, something appears !!
We have some great spotted woodpeckers at my local park.
I can often hear them, but not see them.
I managed to get one or two shots the other year, but not brilliant as it was at a distance.
Still keep on trying, that's the name of the game...😎👍👍
Thanks Eddiek. Patience is the name of the game and making that decision to move on is always a difficult one. Woodpeckers are difficult as they are very skittish birds. Cheers Keith
Keith at least your able to get out and do what you enjoy doing. If it was always easy we wouldn't appreciate the really good days.
Totally agree David. Thanks for watching again. Cheers Keith
I've never seen this woodpecker but I always wanted to. It's super rare here in Finland. A lot of people mistake grey-headed woodpecker for it, which is more common here.
The two main ones we have here in the UK are the Green Woodpecker and the Great Spotted Woodpecker. They are quite common. Thanks for watching.
@@KGsPhotography Great Spotted Woodpecker is the most common one in here too :)
I find I always find what I am looking for when I am not searching for anything at all.
Nice video nonetheless Keith!
Thanks Jeroen. Yes I know the feeling. I spent 3 weeks looking for a fox and the week after I stopped looking one appeared right in front of me.
Lovely video Keith, the bird in the hawthorn was just great!
Don´t let the video aspect of this youtube thing bring you down and make you unfocused, speaking from my own experience of trying to produce videos each week
and always producing something interesting surely made me unfocused and so on.
Something I tend to do when struggling with photography in general is to try and remember
what got you into doing photography and revisit places you loved to visit back then, could be hard doing so during the pandemic but
it´s still a good thought to have in the back of your mind.
Too bad about the green woodpecker, a truely beautiful bird but so skittish! _
Cheers buddy and keep a positive attitude! =)
Thanks Andy and some great advice in there. I guess even though I struggle with it sometimes I still really enjoy it so that’s the main thing. It’s just making sure that I deliver something that’s worth watching that’s what’s important to me. Cheers Keith
I can sympathise at the minute mate. Everything is really quiet around me as well. I could almost predict roe deer every morning on my dog walk but since all the crops have been harvested I think they must be moving across the fields at night. I sense good photography zen is on the way! Stick with it Keith👍
Thanks Scott. I can certainly sense things starting to liven up a little bit now so hopefully will come across some great stuff in the near future. Cheers Keith
just found your videos Richard very enjoyable .agree not the greatest time for wildlife photography i live on the coast so plenty of waders cheers
.
Thanks David glad you like the videos. I don't get much chance to get to the coast but must make a trip when all these lockdowns are over. Cheers Keith
As you know been very quiet for a while but I have noticed there is now a bit more activity about, good vid as usual.
Thanks Alan. Yes good to see things waking up a little. Cheers Keith
Green Woodpeckers never seem as common as the Great spotted in this country but it is probably just the camouflage green as apposed to red. Personally I have more Great spotted photos ! The one you hardly ever see is the Lesser Spotted. Anyone know where one is in Southern England please ? Intend doing more work in the New Forest. Loved the video great to see any woodpeckers 👍😀
Thanks Mark. We get both Great and Green around here but like you have never seen a Lesser Spotted. I think the woodpecker may need to become a bit of a project. Cheers Keith
Great Video Keith I know that you have been struggling but keep at it, it will get better, I am struggling with what to do next with been on lockdown. You got some nice images though, Cheers Steve.
Thanks Steve. Yes it’s not always easy but somehow I seem to manage to get a half reasonable video out of things even if I don’t think much is going on. Thanks for watching Cheers Keith
I see it must be difficult for you, everything is so unpredictable, but you still got some lovely shots,
think the autumn can be a very pretty time of year weather permitting. Best wishes Pauline.
Thanks Pauline. It can be difficult but it's always good to get out there. Weather is very unpredictable at the moment. I went out yesterday and got soaked 😂. Best wishes, Keith
Suffering with the same issues at the moment Keith, really is quiet out there. Nice video though that shows the woes of a wildlife photographer. I'm thinking about a bit of landscape just to take photos of something. Take care & I hope things pick up soon for both of us.
Thanks Stewart and I said at the end of the video if it was easy it probably wouldn’t be as much fun. I occasionally have a landscape photography outing but it tends to be more if I’m on holiday somewhere. Maybe I should have a go at some stage. Cheers Keith
great video and nice shots
Thanks a lot Adrian!
I know the feeling. Started to do some videos for UA-cam myself and I’m really running out of ideas and places, the lockdown doesn’t help either. New places tends to bump up the confidence! Big Like and new sub from me!
Thanks Samuel. Yes it can be difficult to keep things going but if you stick at it you will get there. I think the thing to do is not commit to a regular schedule if you are struggling. Cheers Keith
Great video Keith, I'm seriously considering getting a mirrorless myself camera because of the noise my DSLR makes.
Thanks Steve definitely worth a thought it’s just the money that puts me off. Cheers Keith
You are probably putting too much pressure on yourself doing one per week. I enjoyed the music on this one better. More atmospheric. Plus if you don't see any wildlife, the videos of the countryside are good to watch. Especially on a rainy Saturday morning. Keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot really appreciate your comment. Yeah you just can’t beat been out in the countryside whether you find the wildlife or not. I was out in one of those rainy Friday mornings this week and got soaked. But still worth it. Thanks again cheers Keith
Your not the only one struggling too see wildlife at the moment, I haven’t seen a fox at all this year at pitsford nature reserve, previous year every visit
Thanks Richard, thought it was just me ....lol I saw a fox a few times earlier in the year but nothing since. Cheers Keith
Hi Keith, how do you find the Artcise tripod with the big lens on? Seen them on Amazon but no reviews on UA-cam. Thanks
Hi Andy. I have to say it is the first tripod that I am really happy with and I have around 5 ...lol I went for the one that takes a little more weight and doubles as a monopod. Its really sturdy and just feels well balanced to carry around. I would happily put a larger lens on and be comfortable the tripod will take it. You are right there are not many reviews but if you look under the other name they are manufactured as "Innorel" you will find more reviews. I think in some countries they are sold as Innorel and some as Artcise. Hope that helps, cheers Keith
@@KGsPhotography Thanks Keith, that’s a great help and may have swayed my decision... I only have 3 tripods at the moment but 2 are Benbo’s and too heavy to carry far (great for studio work) the other is a KF concepts and is a great tripod for hiking etc but not great with the 600 and gimbal head.. many thanks for using your time to reply.. Andy
[Hi~FeelFriends💎] You're filming life in nature, it should be tough but great job than shooting anything else
Although you were not satisfied with the situation and surroundings, your work is amazing enough to me
Thank you for sharing, liked and sub'd to make friends with you, hope we stay connected
Thanks for watching I will be sure to check out your channel. Cheers Keith
