If you find mitred corners tricky when binding a quilt, this method may be the answer for you. No fancy gadgets needed - just hairgrips and an unpicker. On the video I have used a quilting foot; however, when the wadding is not very thick, a hinged regular foot works just as well.
Click on the last link above and it will take you straight to my blog post of 28th June 2013, which shows how I overlap strips of binding rather than joining them with a seam.

As a bloke, being a total stranger to needle work, this had been an amazing help in a first project making a quilted table runner. Thank you SEW much, you are brilliant.

Truthfully this is the best explanation and demonstration on a binding technique. I have ever seen. I like that you talk slowly and stop the action so the example can be seen well.
Makes me think even I could do it, I love the Hair grips! They seem to work well.

Compared to restoring a 1907 15K, learning how to use it is mind blowing. So many feet, so little time. I simply had no idea what a 107 year old sewing machine was capable of, so thank you for showing me.

Hello Angela 10226, Yes, I did the FMQ on the 15K treadle which is shown in another video. I think I have about fifteen machines, only two of which are treadles. Hand machines don't take up much space. The 1945 15K treadle is the newest machine I have ever owned. I have never used or owned an electric machine, modern or vintage. I enjoy sewing in a timewarp. Regards Muv

Thanks so much for this fantastic tutorial. THE BEST I ever watched. The corners were explained in detail and great closeups. I really appreciated the SEWING ITSELF DONE IN DETAIL IN THE CORNERS. The other channels don't show this detail in placing the needle in the exact SPOT. BRAVO and CONGRATULATIONS. Thanks for sharing and caring. I subscribed to your important channel.

There are a couple of ideas here that I am going to try for sure: first, using the double fold on the binding strip rather than just folding it in half, and second, using what you call "hair grips" to hold the binding to the quilt body. Thank you very much.

Oh thank you so much. I am learning to quilt, and doing it small, starting out with mug rugs. I tried to learn by a book I got, but couldn't make heads nor tails out of a mitered corner. Thank you, Lizzie. I echo what angej41 has said. I'm pretty good at patchwork, fair at quilting, but could only do straight bindings, never mitred corners, as it was too confusing! The explanation using card was a great idea, and finally made it as clear as glass. Can't wait to "properly" bind my Christmas tablerunner! Cheers, Phyllis
