    Two years ago I was bitten by a tick that had obviously been on me for a considerable time. It was somewhat enlarged when I found it and shortly thereafter I developed a fever and felt quite ill. The doctor in emergency had me admitted to the hospital where I spent the next 5 days. The care in the small eastern Ontario hospital was superb and the diagnosis was anaplasmosis, a tick-born disease. My recovery was complete with no residual complications and subsequent blood tests also showed antibodies to Lyme disease, although I never had any symptoms of Lyme. Tick bites can transmit other bacterial diseases besides anaplasmosis and Lyme.

      I got bite when I was 12 years old got treated for Lyme's....32 years later a few years of not feeling good and a hair loss in small circles I found the tic now a parasite under the skin on my scalp it was attached at the top of skull sucking blood ..the size of a fifty cent piece..there was three female lone star ticks wit the white spot a. multiple egg sacs all now parasites under the skin eating my hairfolicals I only found them by hydro peroxide rub alcohol and a hard bristle brush hard scrub the the scalp face , super scrubs the whole body 100.. if you get bit ..the tic turned to parasite is there under the fine layer of skin ..do the parasite cleanse

    This was a while ago, I went on a first date with a professor and he was aware I was a nurse when he asked me to take a look at his thigh. Thought what have I gotten into. He had seen his doc who said it was a spider bite. I did check and confirmed that it looked like Lymes. I had had multiple patients with this disease and told him what my patients had been put on. He apparently told his doc, who called re tx. I just told him what I knew and he ordered the titer and the doxycycline. My new friend took me out to dinner again and again. He healed!

    I’ve had Lyme Disease for years now. Got bit by a tick, but I did not have a bullseye rash. Even though bloodwork was done, and it came back positive. I also had spinal tap twice, which confirmed it as well. I’ve had history of seizures, now I have a neurogenic bladder, which required a bladder stimulator implant. Not counting the other symptoms Lyme disease has. I was actually on antibiotics for almost a year through a Picc line IV.

    Been there, done that. Both my Mom and I got Lyme Disease but we were about 30 years apart. She got hers in CT and I got mine either in FL or GA. There's a lot of misinformation out there and after going through the American health system where everyone else thought I was nuts, I finally found a test that is only done in 2 labs in the US and cost me $1500. Insurance won't pay for it. If you think you have it, do your research and look up the Lyme Disease Organizations for the real info.

Luckily Dr Adrian Baranchuk is a cardiologist in Kingston and is the man when it comes to Lyme Carditis. Deer tick bite in the back of my hand when cutting back climbing roses in October of all times. I first thought it was a sore from thorn. I must have knocked the body off and about a week later I had the bullseye rash. My GP put me on antibiotics for 3 weeks. Lots of deer in my area. Luckily I haven’t ever been sick from it. Thankfully here we have Lyme specialists that listen to you, but not always covered by insurance. Generally GP’s are testing for Lyme and Babesiosis at the same time, because the Babesiosis here is becoming rampant. I change my clothes every time I spend time outside. Lyme is brutal, if you don’t know what is making you sick get tested for Lyme.

    I live in a tic infected area, i do a tic check twice a day, every day. I also check my dogs twice a day. The dogs are on monthly tic medicine and are vacinated against lyme disease. Hate to tell you, but both dogs have had lyme disease, and I have had it twice. So the longest time possible would be 12 hours they would have been attached. So the 24 hour time to transfer is, in my experience, the product out of the south end of a north bound bull.

    A key prevention tip is if you have been exposed to ticks in a high-risk area or activity, is immediately after you get home to throw your clothes straight into the wash (with dryer on high heat) and take a shower. Use the opportunity in the shower to feel all over your skin for ticks and scrub areas such as hair, armpits and privates, which are areas they could easily hide.

    Locally here on Mount Desert Island, Maine if you get a deer tick bite the doctors will prescribe a 3-5 day treatment with amoxicillin. This is usually given immediately after a tick bite. The local hospital even runs a weekend "tick clinic" for deer tick bites. I don't know if this approach does anything, but it makes people feel better after they find a tick on themselves. Deer ticks are the primary vector here. The problem with them is that they are very small ticks (often 1mm or less) and it is easy to miss one, particularly in your hair.

Nothing prevents ticks better than products with Permethrin insecticide such as Sawyers or Gordons spray and clothing sold at Canadian Tire/Marks treated with Permethrin in addition to the obvious clothing regiments. End of day do a thorough search of ticks on one's body!!! It is typically the Black legged (Deer tick) that is the vector although I treat all ticks the same.

    • @peterwest323
      @peterwest323 6 місяців тому

      That's interesting. In the East Bay Hills only about 1% of the ticks capable of feeding on mammals carry Lyme's disease. Apparently a common lizard, which ticks feed on early in their life cycle carry a protein that kills the Lyme disease in the tick.

      @peterwest323 6 місяців тому

      Regarding the white pants - seems like a good idea. But I've hiked in a tick infested area with a few generations of dogs, over 20 years. For some unexplained reason, my white dogs have always attracted more ticks than my black dogs - I'd estimate a 20X difference in the rate. And it's not a matter of it being easier to see them either. Something about white makes it far more likely for ticks to sense and attach themselves. I assume it has something to do with differences in heat signature.

      Most doctors won’t run the tests unless you have a good relationship with them. I saw two of my regular doctors before one tested for Lyme. They generally don’t think it’s Lyme. It’s always arthritis in their view. You have to be insistent on the testing, and you have to have so many markers for the test to come back positive. Read about the Lyme vaccination. There’s a crazy story.

I usually get a few every year on me and most times I don’t know they are on me until I see a red spot with a small black dot in the center. If you ever got one on your scalp you would never see it. @@ShepherdMinistry I've been lucky so far and have not gotten it yet. I know plenty of people who have gotten Lyme and two of my neighbors have gotten alpha gal syndrome. My brother in Wisconsin got Lyme's disease a few years ago. Took the docs a LONG time to diagnose it (was actually his girlfriend who suggested it, and confirmed by test). It really messed him up. He's in constant, almost debilitating pain all day long and nothing helps.

    I was bitten by a deer tick last late Nov early Dec. The tick was dead and had turned black. I live in a high deer tick area, Central MA, and live in the woods. I do a lot of hiking and gardening and getting deer tick bites in not unusual. In the past if I got a tick bite and felt that if got it in the first 24 to 48 hours I took (2)100 mg of doxycycline as preventative. But I really did not know how long the tick had been on me and I probably should have taken a full 21 day dose. I never saw a rash but the tick was found behind the knee and I could have not seen a rash. In Jan. got severe pain in the groin area and then it moved to by buttocks and then to a knee. I went to see my PCP and got a test for Lyme disease. Then it moved to my other knee. I did also feel lower energy. It was very painfule but the test was negative. . The pain persisted and I had another test, also negative. I got a 30 script for Doxy in April and after awhile there was some reduction in the pain, but still some joint pain. I then went to see a Rumatologist and he did MANY tests, $3900 worth, including other tick diseases and rumatory arthritis and lot os other things! The tests were all negative but about a week before the appointment the pain and swelling in the knees subsided significantly and he was unable to extract any fluid. The pain in the one knee persisted and then began to radiate up the same thigh. I spoke with another person who had a partner who had a second Doxy dose and the Lyme disapeared. This person had a positive test for Lyme. I went back to my PCP and asked for another 30 scrip of Doxy which I started 5 days ago. Hard to tell but maybe a little less pain and soreness after 5 days.. Do you know if other people got rid of joint pain with a second dose? What would you recommend if the pain persits after this 30 script is up? Thanks,

    I have millions of those little nasty buggers at my property. I see a huge population of deer on my trail cams and they congregate in large groups on my driveway and clearing. It is a go to destination for hunters and has a very busy deer season. No body in the county has caught lymes as far as I know and we have two common types of ticks. I have been bitten every year since I owned the place. So far we've been lucky.

    I respectfully observe that Lyme disease is not that easy to treat later on and probably never goes away. Antibiotics should be used for persistent infections. Lyme hides and protects itself from the antibiotics. Biofilms, cysts, and also hiding in our immune cells and nerve cells
    Lyme and co infections need to be taken a lot more seriously.!

    It's important to pull your socks up over your pants so the ticks can't crawl inside your pant leg. Some people in the US have said that ticks can fall out of trees so wear a hat. April and May are particularly bad times for ticks in Ontario. Dogs can be given slow release pills to protect them against tick bites because they can get Lyme disease.

    I've had Lyme twice and the thing about having to have a tick on you for 24 hrs is absolute BS.
    First time, I know when I got the bite and didn't get treated right away after developing a big, round rash because of the 24 hr thing. Next time, I went into the woods and came back with the worst itchy bug bite that turned into a big round rash, but I know (it was on my forearm) that whatever bit me was there and gone.
    When you get a big round rash, get to a doctor.
