    I just put up 20 pounds of peaches. I canned 7qts and made several pints of juice for stomach problems. Peaches are wonderful for upset stomachs or problems with blockages in the bowels. Making medication that is safe for everyone is important. The plants that heal and how to use them is as important as how to make a healthy dinner

    Autumn 🍁🍁🍂🍂 New Hampshire greetings from our farm! So encouraged to see you going strong Heidi. I am a farm wife and have been prepping for our two farm properties. I try to follow you and Mary when I have time or have a project. You both are excellent in preparing and stocking up and offering natural alternatives. So useful - TY. Do you soak your nuts before eating? Others are saying that it helps with the nutrition absorption. soak and then dehydrate.
    Also, could you do a video on storing seeds, pumpkin, sunflower, chia, flax, etc. ?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 роки тому

      I only soak nuts when making milk, I always forget about the soaking thing just for eating but really am not that concerned about it. I think about how Jesus ate heads of grain straight from the plant and often wonder if some of the extra steps taken these days, even though I have done them too with grains (I do not anymore as I never noticed a difference) are just more of a fad. How do we know that soaking does not cause a lot of the nutrients to be leached out into the water? Just questions that I have that I plan to look into deeper when I remember.
      As far as storing seeds, I count them the same as I do the nuts I store and I vacuum seal them into jars though I do still have some stored in buckets from when I bought them years ago, they are all still good too.

    I noticed that marigolds are part of the calendula family. Is there a specific calendula you were talking about versus another type?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 роки тому

      Yes, calendula is considered a marigold but it is also unique from the marigold and has different benefits. As far as calendula, yes there are many varieties just of that and I use them all equally as I grow several colors in various shades of orange and yellow and even pink

    Two years in a row I have tried to grow calendula. I get fabulous leaves but no flowers … even tried growing them in my geodesic dome greenhouse. . Are the leaves of any use?

      I had initially read the leaves cannot be used but recently learned that some people do use them.

    How do you keep liquid honey from crystalizing and turning solid? I bought honey from Costco and now I have a block. My husband keeps soaking the large bottle in very warm water, but I fear constantly heating up the plastic bottle may cause chemicals to leach into the honey.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 роки тому

      Of my old honey, I just scoop out of the bucket what I need at a time and usually just add it to whatever I am using it in as the crystals will dissolve in whatever liquid they are in on their own but if I really need to have them dissolved first, I gently warm in a glass or metal container first.

    Hi from NC. My question is: how do you learn all of these skills? (Besides the obvious watching YT videos) Did you go to a school? Apprentice with someone etc? Btw, do you have recipes using anise or other, to make shikimic tea? I follow Natural News Mike Adams and he was talking about this. Any thoughts?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 роки тому +1

      I actually rarely watch any other videos. I have picked up things here and there by doing my own research and then my own experimentation. Never went to school nor have I done an apprenticeship for any of this kind of thing, I am totally self taught. Here is the video I did recently on how anyone can do their own research into what they need to in order to find what is best for them and/or to be able to take themselves off prescription medications like we did years ago with our thyroid meds: ua-cam.com/video/59r48nUrC90/v-deo.html

      Two reasons: the past few months I have been too busy to do much sewing and the other is because some people get disturbed or distracted by the sewing machine. However, I may start doing it again once I get back into making skirts and aprons for the store
