      Great Video really enjoyed it! I would like to know how you put your effects back on the color graded video? After I flatten my project send it over to resolve and bring it back if I try to copy and paste attributes on the color graded footage It doesn't work. Do I have to manually redo all effects after getting the color graded footage back in premiere ? I would like to know how yo do it specially when dealing with complicated effects.

    • @artlist_io
      @artlist_io  3 роки тому

      @@joseguillen6724 Hey, what you could do instead is just replace all of the ungraded footage with the graded one, in the original sequence with all of the effects. Just right click on the footage (in timeline or media pool) and select "replace footage"

    I personally like to use another workflow between Premiere Pro ans DaVinci Resolve. After editing my footage in Premiere I switch to Resolve and import the original files and only grade and export the videofiles which I have edited with in Premiere Pro. Then I deliver every clip with the same file name like the originals and switch back to Premiere Pro and right click on my footage in the library and go under proxies to relink the "original files". The only issue with my workflow is that I cannot see how the next shot looks like with the shot before. It's harder to match all clips like you do with your XML workflow. I would like to see more videos about the workflow between DaVinci and Premiere and more content about color grading on this channel would be nice too!

  • @TheFPSChannel
    @TheFPSChannel 3 роки тому

    Thanks for the demo! Nice tips. What I’m always looking for and can never find is a workflow that assumes you are handing your timeline off to another system/person/company/city. I understand how easy the XML handoff feels when it is pointing to the same media. But try taking a 100 hours of footage, cutting it down, and sending the sequence (only) off to a colourist somewhere ‘else’. That’s when Premiere really shows its flaws because the consolidate features are buggy at best and usually don’t work at all. I have a workaround, but it is clumsy.

    • @artlist_io
      @artlist_io  3 роки тому

      Yea, definitely not ideal.
      What's your workaround?

    • @TheFPSChannel
      @TheFPSChannel 3 роки тому

      @@artlist_io Well first, as I said…Premiere is SUPPOSED to help you to consolidate the footage of selected timelines through the project manager. You can, in theory, do this with or without handles. But I’ve never been able to get this to work. Inevitably it ends up copying ALL the media it can find over to a folder; even stuff not at all related to the sequence. And, as one might expect, it takes a very, very long time. Then, when you create an XML after it is complete, after you waited alllllll that time to copy stuff you don’t need, it links to only to a few random bits of it in Resolve leaving lots of 'media missing' errors. (Cut to head slamming against desk repeatedly). And it is way worse if you have proxies because even if you tell it to ignore the proxies it copies all the proxies. I and I mean ALL of them.
      My workaround is 1) create a sequence of just picture to be colour timed 2) select everything, strip off all the effects except time related ones, 3) restore any clips that have already been rendered and replaced to the original and 4) then select all again and render & replace every single clip. But when I do I make sure they are rendering to a unique folder. Then the XML I create from this sequence will link to this “flattened” media. But I can only do one sequence at a time so there is a lot of baby sitting if you are preparing multiple sequences.
      Warnings: Resolve can still have trouble with frame rate issues and media that was originally H265 (which makes no sense. Why is there a problem with flattened media? Yet, there can be). Also, all this assumes you have previously transcoded your media that you were editing with. If you are working with the original footage there can be issues, especially with H264 & H265.
      This only demonstrates to me that Premiere CAN do what I need it to do but the coders simply don’t bother to fix the issue with a broken function. Probably because most Premiere user don’t hand things off to a different system, so… who cares? Which is too bad because if you want to consolidate the sequence for archiving, which we always do for safety, this technique is not applicable - you’ll lose all your references back to the original media.
      And before any PP users say the code to do this would be difficult, I point to Avid Media Composer and the fact that it has had this ability since 1994.
      Thanks for listening. Love the channel!

    What about how to make proxy files in Resolve? If you are using proxies and Premiere Pro and transfer them to Resolve for color correction, does it transfer the proxies or the high resolution footage?

    • @RathJ13
      @RathJ13 3 роки тому +1

      if it doesnt transfer the proxies, and you want to use those instead (not a great idea when colour grading, though) you can relink your video to proxies in resolve.

    Perhaps, showing DaVinci options and optimization for working in teams across different computers and different servers. It isn't as "cool" as color correction, grading, or compositing, but there are some technical aspects which professionals run into and cause hangups for creation and delivery, those things are in areas file, preferences, and project settings. For example, if someone on a team has their DaVinci resolve set to have their cached file stored to their local computer, and someone else has it pointing to a server, when that person opens up DaVinci with their local machine, it will overwrite the preference of that file and then cause broken links when reopened by someone else on their team. Also, there are multiple fields in which cached files can be set to point somewhere, but there appears to be a hierarchy because the Preferences>Media Storage>Media Storage Locations field seem to drive the other fields in other windows for this, and when you change that cached location in a subsequent menu, it reverts back to whatever is actually set in the Preferences. Something like that.
