- Whilst the GR Yaris is an incredible car out of the box, an almost universal issue every western reviewer and owner has complained about is the high up seating position. This makes you feel like you're less connected to the car, and also limits visibility.
We knew from the get go that this is something we wanted to change, and when our friends at Cobra Seats released a direct bolt in kit for their range of seats we were straight on the phone.
Not satisfied with just having a package turn up, we decided to head to their factory to see just how these seats are made, completely in the UK! We also sit down with MD Mark Dunsford and find out a little history of this three generation old company.
Finally we get the seats fitted and get the car out on the road to see if this has been the fix the car has truly needed.

Love videos like these- so interesting to see the process and craftsmanship that goes into what for most of us would be an off the shelf item.
It’s a great joy to be able to lift the curtain and show everyone that real humans make these items, and in this case have done for over 40 years!

Never underestimate a good seating position. This would probably be my first mod if I had one of these car's.
There's a reason why Toyota did this: the GR uses the stock dash...with the stock airbags. With a lower seat, their coverage isn't as effective.
Except… The seats in the Hybrid Yaris actually allow you to sit lower! I think the seat design team expected the chassis design team to realise the seats they’d designed were taller and lower the seat plinths to suit them, and then they didn’t.

Very good dual duty seats. I have them in my daily driver that I also track. Brilliant design
do they support that much? because its way lower at you hips than other bucket seat like pole position.
Im looking for them but i am afraid it doesnt support enough

You kindly let me sit in your M2 to try out your Cobra seats at the BMW show at Gaydon in the spring. I now have a leather set fitted in my E36 M3, and they totally transform the feel of the car.

They are on sliders
One thing we forgot to mention! But yes they are on sliders, plenty of forward/back movement.
How did you get around not reconnecting the seat airbag wires etc ? 2 K for purchase and fitment of the seats ? Sounds well worth it 😊

They look great. Are you still able to adjust the drivers seat up and down or are there a number of fixed positions?
Where the seats attach to the side mounts you can raise them up or lower them down. We have them set to the lowest possible position.

Not something we measured, but a good few inches. It’s instantly noticeable, especially the view between the screen and rear view mirror.

Do these seats have SRS airbags? If not, did you have any issue with your insurance company when you declared the mod?
They do not have airbags. We are with a trade policy insurer so you would need to check with your own private one.
You should design a kit to allow the steering wheel adjustment to go lower, I’d love a slightly lower seating position, but the wheel barely goes low enough as it is, and you’re visibly reaching upwards to the wheel in the lower seat here.
Replacement steering wheel would be way simpler if that was something that bothered you.
@@EvolveAutomotive That wouldn’t really lower the centreline of the wheel, and the wheels already pretty small so you could probably only get the top of the wheel down by an inch or so without using a really, really tiny wheel.

I assume they still slide for access to the rear ?
They do slide forward quite a bit but there isn’t really rear access. The rear seats of the GR Yaris are quite pointless though, even my kids didn’t really like being back there.
A seat delete is on the cards for the future.

Cobra did a great job matching to the rest of the interior, not to mention on the seat itself and fitting kit!
