Once again a big thanks to Joe for helping us compare these two! If you want to hear his thoughts on the GR Yaris when Imran wasn’t listening make sure you check out his video! - ua-cam.com/video/OpylsAdQIHY/v-deo.html
Didn’t you know that the height of the mirror is adjustable? You can see in a shot that it’s position wasn’t changed. You can move it up so it almost touches the roof and then, it‘s not that much an issue.
GP2 forever!👍 The looks, the delightful manual gearbox, the joy of driving it on the limits... I think without a manual option, GP3 loses 70% of the fun. Yaris seems to be a joyful machine! Cheers from Ankara, Turkey and happy holidays!
Brilliant video guys, the energy and laughter between you two comparing them takes me back to being a teenager all over again out with my mates in our fun hot hatches of the day- uno turbos and 205 gti’s etc! Pure class!
Thats exactly what the GR evokes for me. Memories of the 90s. As Joe said its great to be back in cars that can be fun at less than licence losing speeds
I love Joe's reaction to both cars, but I have to say the reaction to the GP3 after driving the GR is priceless. Looks like he was having way more fun in the GP. Hahaha Great video you guys. very well done!!
As said in the video the GP3 is definitely more fun at the lower speeds, but possibly for the wrong reasons. We weren’t really trying but the GR would have been hugely quicker if not obeying the speed limit.
@@EvolveAutomotive The Gr yaris I had was an easier car to drive fast tbf ,in fact I thought anyone could drive it fast even min gran, on the other hand with the GP3 you have to be far more a competent driver to drive it fast on road , it takes some tackling but if you can do that its far more exciting in my opinion , hence why I still go t it here .
Not finished the review yet but just watching the difference in how much steering input/correction needed is unreal!! That Yaris looks a dream to drive!
Having owned a GP.3 briefly, it left me cold as compared to my GP.1 and GP.2 and I sold it on within 2 months. I felt it was nowhere near fun enough. Having picked up my GR Yaris yesterday and having done almost 1,000 km already on hairpins, Autobahn and everything in between, I'd pick the GR any day of the week and twice on Sunday! Just my 2 cents...
The reaction from both of you guys with the different cars is soo telling of the two cars different characters...awesome video...one is clearly a chilled out fun car while the other is adrenalin junkie’s on the edge hands on drama full on in the wet!!...great vibe with you two as always!!!
Now you see why people love the manual Clio rs's and early civic type r ep3. High reving engines with manual gearboxes and lots of fun from the front end.
Great format for this video using the picture in picture presentation. Thank you. Those road conditions were a GP3 nightmare and a GR Yaris dream. The GR really captures my imagination. The GP3 much less so which is a surprise as I greatly enjoyed a first generation GP some years ago. I really wish presenters would get off the idea of talking about the price "for a Yaris" as really the GR is Yaris in name only.
As an F56 JCW owner I really appreciate fun factor and feel of these types of cars. I'd love to have a go in the Yaris to see if it has the same fun factor as the mini...
And the iconic design and nature of a mini, and the community of a mini. Its raw, its a track machine, if you're not focused on the track, what are you doing there? Besides the GP3 now has mods that fix the torque steer.
Bizarrely, it’s actually closer to the savagery and ‘all the torque all the time’-ness of an R52 Cooper S with an undersized supercharger pulley fitted, except with that 4wd grip to actually send it out of corners. You definitely won’t be disappointed, they’re the perfect blend of brutality and composure.
Great vid, thanks. Love Joe’s enthusiasm! The Yaris’ real competition, on that kind of road, would be Golf R, Type R, and it would be interesting to see how much faster an A45s is, and if it’s as much fun!
Fun video. Joe thanks for the intro another great channel find. On the cars personally of the two it would be the Yaris all day long for awesome usable performance & 4wd system. Still unsure of a 3 pot and certainly for £32k !
Great video Imran! Nice to see them together. They're like chalk and cheese though. GP3 will never compare to the GR in those conditions. GP3 on track is a different story! GR as a daily, GP3 as a track toy or weekend adrenaline hit! Still surprised Joe fitted in the GR, he may need an open top helmet for track🤣🤣
@Jamie Cole the GR Yaris 'as stated by Top Gear, Out Accelerates a Ferrari 488 PISTA, McLaren 570s, Audi TTRS, Honda NSX, and Lamborghini to 60km/h PROVEN, also handles exceptionally well.there is a reason TOP GEAR have awarded it 10/10.
@Jamie Cole GR would beat the Mini 1/4 mile. Virtually nothing beats the GR 0-30. The Mini needed AWD and a manual box, they made a mistake there! The GR is the best all rounder, and much more than just a suped up mainstream car
The mini bounces around so much more in the side by side in car footage. Doesn’t even look like they’re going down the same road, the GR just soaks up the bumps that much better.
Fantastic video. Was really waiting for this. Really want to buy a GR Yaris but in South Africa they are going to be ridiculously priced. Literally Golf R money and for a bit more, one could get an M135i X Drive. Totally respect the Yaris, what a great car.
I have a GP and drove a Yaris few days ago. TBH they are hard to compare. They are in two different classes, not that one is better than the other but just pretty different. However still a great comparison Video.
Proper rally engineering put into the GR Yaris. The real driver's car for sure. Well done Toyota for showing us that you can still do awesome fun cars.
Great collaboration, liked the relaxed and casual tone of the video, please do more stuff together. One question, does the Yaris feel like it need a bit more torque down low (considering highly strung little 1.6l triple cylinder engine)? I heard from some reviewers that they have to rev it up a bit to get into the power band. I'm very disappointed I won't have a chance to drive one since they won't be coming to the US which sucks unless I manage to go to Nurburgring and rent one for a few laps (from Apex guys). I somehow think that the Yaris GR would be even more fun if it came with 2.0l four cylinder engine and some 300-330hp. I heard that the HKS guys are already pushing 375hp with upgraded turbo and they even added 100hp nitrous shot and stock internals are still taking it. This car is a huge success for Toyota.
To be honest it doesn't feel like its lacking torque. It has a fairly decent mid range punch and also holds power at the top end pretty well. Check out our dyno video for the power graph
That moment you work at MINI as an engineer and you see Toyota release the car you should have build as the new GP. Instead you get told to add a bunch of horrible looking arches to the body work, because that is what GP stands for instead of installing a proper adjustable suspension, decent rubber from an A-brand and cooling for the engine.
Definitely adds to the Fun Factor, though and has been the biggest complaint about the GP in the MINI forum I follow. You say the engine could do with cooling. I know my Gen III JCW has added cooling over the S model, which works well out on the track. I thought I read that the GP has even more cooling than what the JCW has. Not enough?
@@Eddie07S the gearbox is not my number one concern, also because I know BMW wouldn't have been able to make the business case work because of homologation. Nowhere in the BMW or MINI lineup this engine configuration is connected to a manual, and only doing for 3000 pieces would make the car too expensive. They could however have fit better engine cooling. The car doesn't have the lower engine cover underneath the car because of the cooling issues. Together with my tuner we dived into the engine characteristics and the thermal set up of the car is horrific. It needs a different intercooler desperately to at least be able to keep the performance levels at all circumstances, and then we are not even talking about tuning it. Without it, it won't be able to hold on to the increased 306 hp at every single instance. It was a bit like a W T F moment when we saw the results of the tests we did. The engine and especially the turbo are strangled up to a point that you are like this can't be true. Also this 2.0 liter engine runs stock a turbo pressure that gets you 306 hp, while if you would run the same pressure on similar 2.0 liter 4 cylinder VAG engine you would have in access of 450 hp.
Great video guys !! I have the standard 30k Yaris on order, due for shipping now. Be a weekend toy, no track use. Would you recommend changing the Dunlops for PS4s? Cheers.
Great video & an interesting comparison, thanks Imran. Also great to see you guys with a GR, I'll be trading in my 270bhp R55 JCW Clubby for a GR when funds allow, be good to see what Evolve comes up with for the pocket rocket

Awesome handling. Proper drivers car! Amazing in corners. Don't judge cars by the badge. Peugeot always had great hothatches. and 308 Gti is so underrated!
I had a previous model jcw 2010. Great fun car. I bought it for 6 months and kept it for 6 years but it started to burn too much oil that I had to add some during every other gas fill. This gp has too much power that it doesn’t seem to handle well. GR any time or just a standard jcw.
This must be the first video of its kind I’ve seen where hands - free communication has been used and not some walkie-talkie set up. Why is this so uncommon? Nice vid btw.
Great video, very informative review for these vehicles on everyday roads. You got to have a car that makes your pulse race and for me, the GP 3 would do that. Ive got to get one now.... Hahaha...Thanks
The GR Yaris is an AMAZING accomplishment. Toyota should be very proud. If you live in a country where you can drive one, enjoy it. Sadly we don't get it here in the US.
I'm a BMW guy but I really love the GR Yaris. Well, the main difference between the two is that they were built for different terreins. The GP is a track car and the GR is rally car. So, of course, the GR would Thrive on a road that somewhat resembles a rally road.
@@EvolveAutomotive That's true. Get to work on some mods for the gr mine should arrive in May so i need some cool ideas. Mud flaps a first. So i will be contacting you for those and more. Great vid.👍
If BMW/MINI would build an even more stripped down GP with a rear biased all wheel drive system it would probably interest more petrol heads and be more of a driver focused car than what's on offer today. They've gotten too big imo and need to go back to their roots(i'm sure that's not an option tho). My first "track day car" was an 06 DINAN S Cooper and I loved that car, it was nimble and had perfect power for the chassis. People bought Mini's because of their handling and quirky looks. Now Toyota has captured that spirit and people are going bat shit crazy for the GR Yaris. This is just my shitty .02 worth, but I've heard lots of other enthusiasts say something similar.
@@EvolveAutomotive I'm excited to see what kind of performance you guys get out of that little GR. Great content per usual, I just wish you guys had a shop in Southern California for my M4C. In fact quite a few of the other F8* M owners I know follow your channel.
Nothing, all of these videos are to generate sales. Give it 6 months and there will be something new and it will be Yaris what? A bit like the old GRMN
I'm no expert but why didn't BMW do xdrive for the Mini like it does in the bigger m135i. I can't imagine there'd be any conflict between the m135i and GP3 as surely buyers are not expecting the same things from their cars

@@EvolveAutomotive That's true. Get to work on some mods for the gr mine should arrive in May so i need some cool ideas. Mud flaps a first. So i will be contacting you for those and more. Great vid.👍
Toyota is finally back with this Yaris. Hopefully the Corolla for the US will be almost as fun.
If I had the money I'd be ordering the Yaris... great video.
The GR definitely has that spirit 🙌
@@EvolveAutomotive I'm excited to see what kind of performance you guys get out of that little GR. Great content per usual, I just wish you guys had a shop in Southern California for my M4C. In fact quite a few of the other F8* M owners I know follow your channel.
Great work guys
Thanks 😊
Yaris for me plz, awd, lsd, wider body
nice drone shots
Go and test the GR on dirt. Isn't that what it's made for?
I am still really sceptical of the GR Yaris. What really makes this superior to a well kitted alternative?
Nothing, all of these videos are to generate sales. Give it 6 months and there will be something new and it will be Yaris what? A bit like the old GRMN
@@Andy-2022 Completely agree, I said something similar on another video and got completely scolded by everyone lol.
Yes man..Mega video
Whitch like design?
Gry need a rear view monitor up and away from where oem mirror is.👍❤️🇦🇺
Winter driving, every car looks like a rally car with all the salt crud build up 😂
I'm no expert but why didn't BMW do xdrive for the Mini like it does in the bigger m135i.
I can't imagine there'd be any conflict between the m135i and GP3 as surely buyers are not expecting the same things from their cars
Great video guys, I live 10 minutes from that stretch of road would loved to have joined you for a drive!
Where is this? Looks like nice twisting roads with good sighting...
Its the B1039 from great chishill towards Newport. Its on the Cambridgeshire essex border. The B1368 going back into Hertfordshire is good too 👍
