GR Yaris first mods and testing it out on track

- We get stuck into some mods on our Toyota GR Yaris. Already a very fun and capable car, we're starting by modding the suspension with swaybars, end links, an anti lift kit to see if we can drop our times at rallysprint.

I've got one of these GR's and the factory headlight adjustment is balls
They need to be aimed higher, driving at night is actually scary when you are doing 100k's on a country road and cant use your highbeams because a car is infront.
Definitely needs to be your next mod guys, only need an 8mm socket and a sharpy if you want to mark the washer to adjust each side the same turns
Why not a Hyundai i30n ????
I hope this reaches you guys, I've been a fan for absolute ages and the two of you on the track with Moog calling corners and gears while Marty wrangles that nugget around the track is my absolute favourite time I've seen you guys together in a car on a track. It was so cool to see Moog use the instructing he got back from the Lotus era it was really helpful because now at night you have to RACE a whole new hectic track on a new setup haha it was honestly suspenseful. Cheers.
Great video and love that you're slowly introducing mods. I was curious if you are using some type of module to activate the hazards when you are applying the brakes. If so, please share. Thanks!
No coilovers? Best mod on a yaris is suspension 👌
I could listen to that man talk about alignment all day he seems very knowledgeable
He is a legend I took my car too him for a corner balance and “aggressive alignment” the car is super quick in the corners now.
Took my car to Peter, meh.
I love the coaching on the track, this is mates having a fucking great time
Yep, really enjoyed watching the lads just having a great time
Have to install some rally fogs for night events. But that looks like so much fun, great driving Marty. The car looks great. More mods soon.
Also a great visual mod for any rally-style car.
Spot lights. Fog lights be more use in the fog then at night.
@@jasonrobertson3330 light bar I reckon, Marty was saying he wants to see around corners, lights bars are always better for spread than long distance spot lights.
Definitely add a light bar! I have one on my works van and my daughter says it's like daylight driving at night haha!
not having the "personality" lights shining inside the car would make seeing OUT of the car easier. But, then, you can't see the guys.
Moogs random licking always gets me 😆 I remember just about losing my lunch back in the day when they did automotive archaeology on the driveway
You hit the nail on the head, Marty: you don't HAVE to be good at something to enjoy it! You may not be fast (compared to race drivers) but you enjoy it. That's all that really matters 👍
When Midget Farrelly was asked 'Who was the best surfer out on the break?'
His reply..
'The one who is having the most fun.'
True, yet I do find enjoyment comes from pushing yourself to be the best, or the best you can be.
Cringe
Slow af
Well it depends on how competitive you are as a person. Some just hate losing.
Always a good day when mcm post
100% should've switched those interior lights off for that time attack, must've been so difficult to see 😂
tv magic sauce
I saw that way before Marty mentioned it and thought it must be really difficult to see! I hate when the interior light is on it the back at night, so to have one right in your face must suck... But yes, lighting is necessary for TV magic
Change to Night vision/IR lighting.
High beams on would have helped more.
100% ! After 10years watching those 2 faces we can live without seeing them another 2min ! Turn off that light, turn on beams and trash that Yaris even more would'ya ?!
Never ceases to amaze me the friendship that shines through everything you two do. Thanks so much! Always a delight.
I loved that you guys expressed how important it is to put time in your vehicle first and doing mods one at a time to change how you want it to behave. Instead of just jumping straight in and putting all sorts of mods all at once without getting time in for each mod to gauge what is needed next.
You guys always impress with your video quality. Love the gradual adding of mods with testing in between.
Rally-style light bar and Castrol livery based on old Celica's one would be perfect visual addition, it would make your sponsor happy :) and it would fit the car's spirit very well
This
Yes!
Yeah!
I don't know why (which I realize isn't very helpful), but this is one of my favorite episodes in recent memory. The vibes are all there, it's chill, everybody's having a great time, and I just love it.
Briaded lines help with brake feel as rubber lines flex the tiniest bit under pressure, thus making the padal more "squishy".
This effect can become more pronounced as the fluid (and the line) increases in temperature.
Most modern 'rubber' lines have internal braiding making them very stiff also. It's not like it's radiator hose rubber 🙂
The best 4x4 channel on the internet should put some rally inspired spotlights on the yaris
Well done guys I know this is a year old but I skipped it because it was a Yaris. I just picked up a GR Corolla to track and compete in hillclimb and supersprints and have come back to watch all of these for your opinions and antics. Greets from Bathurst NSW👍
Peter is a legend, he does all my alignment work for the Evo
Motive really showed what kind of power you can get from these little rockets with bolt ons and ÉCU upgrade. I can’t wait to see what these guys do here.
Hearing the subaru rumble in the background when the guys running down their laps at the end was great. Keep at it guys. Great stuff! Moog is a proper co-driver!! 5 stars would recommend
Not many people enjoy what they do like you do! I often watch you guys just to participate in the fun... don't understand half of what you say because I am still catching up! great work!
I think that is actually a Toyota GR car in the shape of a Yaris. I plan on getting the Toyota GR car in the shape of the Corolla Hatchback some day! So glad you got this car and you are doing the mods slowly so I can see what mods do what! Lets GOOO!
While watching the video where marty was talking about the swaybars in the beginning... i suddenly went into the thought of the fact that i'd still be watching MCM videos when one day marty and moog would be as old as the iron maiden legends and i'd still be enjoying each and every second of it... love you guys...
Peter is a top bloke with a heap of knowledge.
I've had the pleasure of meeting him a few times being with a car club he is apart of (probably one of many knowing this bloke)
I noticed no tyre squeal which would suggest that car is set up pretty well for rally cross which again is a testament to Peter's work 🤙
Love it! Put a light bar on the front for night rally sprints - It will inspire your confidence no end. And do the brake pads so you can stand on them hard and late!
That sway bar guys analogy was excellent
Peter is a legit legend.
Alignment is really underrated. A few well placed turns with a spanner can make a huge difference to how a car feels and handles.
Great episode Marty and Moog, I just love the friendship between you guys, from building/modding cars to being a co driver and just egging Marty on. True mates!
that thing looked like it was flying! and it's great to see the chemistry between you two on the track and the back and forth
You guys are killing it, so much better content here when a bit of competition is added, this will be fun to follow your progress!
Peter from road and race in Ryldamere is a legend if you want your car setup properly he is the man.
Great vid. I did H&R Springs with Whiteline Camber Bolts and and Caster Bush Kit. Did an alignment and like you, got a decent performance gain. Since then I’ve done coilovers with front top mounts for extra caster and made a change to the alignment including toe out at the rear. Threw on some WedsSport wheels and Yoko 052 tyres, and WOW faster again! I have the Whiteline sway bars on the shelf, so they’ll go on next. So, yes. Do it in increments and see what works for you.
Man alignment is a freaking magical art. I kinda understand springs and dampers but anti rollbars are a bloody mystery. I just can't get my head around the science of how they affect handling. Damn awesome to see this car getting the love it deserves
My wife is mates with the guy who helped developed these tyres in Clermont-Ferrand. Michelin are Frances best export. I have cross climate 2 on my YARIS! You guys rock...now do a porche nugget..the track will explode and you will be hooked..
I have the circuit pack version, Rally edition in Australia and absolutely love this car. I think that doesn't need any modification. It's a rally car for the street.
I know a lot of the competitive AutoX guys in higher classes used to run a really big front sway bar on GD Subarus. As I recall, it basically allowed them to hold their line better mid-corner. Plus since you could rotate with on/off throttle weight transfer, while the bigger bar in front increased rear grip and assisted quick transitions, it made those cars super quick on tight tracks.
you guys are the reason i got more into cars
Great teamwork had me on the edge thinking like I hope they don't wreck it lol.
That track looks fun!! Awesome episode
Nothing puts a smile on my face more than seeing two blokes screaming like little girls whilst having a laugh, ragging the shit outta a car. 😄
It is lots of fun to see you use your project cars and watch the upgrades as they go, but that aside did you notice how on point Moog's driver notes were, coaching each other around any given course will give you guys an edge, all the WRC drivers are backed up by their navigator.
Bi-led lights or led's in projectors are really good mods for night driving, nice wide beam patterns and good light distance whilst also safe for other drivers
Peter is an absolute beast. Would highly recommend :)
As someone who started my automotive ride in mk1 golf gti's and xr2 and xr3's I think it's fair to say this is the total pinnacle of hot hatch performance. Yes I'm saying it, the GR Yaris is the greatest hot hatch ever made and will probably never be beaten at this point (as a petrol car). Really thinking about getting one, such a silly idea at 47 with 5 kids but it must be a joy to drive on a daily basis.
Grats to Marty, all the years of free content making make me happy for you to have such a great little nugget mate.
Really nice of Marty to ask "do I need a new seat?" rather than "are you buying me a new seat?" 😉
Moog with the Mighty Undies Mods had me in stitches.
Looking forward to seeing the journey of this nugget. I never though I would want a Yaris, and I am a lifelong fan of Toyotas.
more track stuff guys! this was one of the best mighty car mods i can remember!
Going to 2:37 from the 3:05.6 from last time is a pretty massive improvement. No rain this time, but still...
Thanks for doing what I was thinking about doing.
I'm so happy for Moog n Marty. THEY HAVE A LIFT NOW! Oh, they also have a sick workshop to do their stuff in.
Not gonna lie...Toyota has gotten the attention of many enthusiasts like myself ever since they released the GR Yaris. Now that we have seen a few videos of the it (in this channel), keeping my fingers cross in hoping that we will soon see the GR Corolla here. And I would love to see that happening.
Went for a fast run in one of these, fantastic little car!
I have been watching yall for so long I knew moog was going to lick the oil pan before it even happened 😆 🤣
This was awesome! You guys looked to have so much fun!
Enjoy
As always lads, great content.
Also, Marty you’re looking particularly fit mate. Keep it up!
Cheers
Ew cringe
@@kc550 if y'all wanna see something actually cringe, look at @kc550's comment history 🤣 get a life.
@@NiKsXm I have a great life. You're the one investigating people's comment history, what does that say about you?
I'm not saying big turbo 600hp. Just put a downpipe and tune. You'll get better turbo response and it's still very usable power. Around 800bucks to do all that. You can even do jb4 for 500 and high flow cat for around 200. The tires and sway bars will make this a track monster.
More of these modification and straight to track testing videos lads! Great to watch
Toyota tech here dont know if you guys know or not but the yaris has engine noise coming in through the speakers ((ESE Engine Sound Enhancment) and (ANC Active Noise Control)) you can turn them off and you get a more proper engine sound, l prefer how it sounds without them. Look forward to seeing what you do to this vehicle.
I love how quick you guys got this out after Marty decided to start modding the Yaris in a video only 4 days before
Looked as the yaris was turning alot better than before.
I have the full whiteline sway bars, drip links and wish bones on my impreza wrx hatchback and what a difference it has made.
Steering rack bushings and whiteline bars were the two most noticiable mods other than the RE71Rs. I still have to install the whiteline LCA bush to get that extra caster and horrible clunk from the factory one getting smashed on braking and turn-in lol
@@3ToeCo i still have the odd bit to look at changing
Marty: “I can’t see”
Moog: “Are you on high beams?”
Marty: “No”
didnt look like he had those lower fog lights on etiher which probably would have helped see the turns better
In some sections the high beams reflected and made it harder so it was easier to turn off.
@@mightycarmods
where? we had a light bar but wanted more, especially in the tight no skid Zones between the barriers and the back straight P.S. we only ran a 2:51 but it was our first time driving in @ 5-6 years and the car had only be driven gently 😉up and down the street to test.
that things just looks so planted, go kart level stiff , good work gents
can we have a full battle to see who is the faster driver on a decent track ...please would be solid content ❤🤘😎
Never get sick of your videos guys!! 😁🤣
Good teamwork during the rally race.
The sensible mighty car mods. Kids see think obsess ruin. Thanks guys
I like the MIGHTY JOCKS MODS MOOG STYLE, bloody brilliant driving Marty, love the YARIS, freaking great video guys, can't wait to see mods done on the UP, thanks men loving the content
After I blew up my 5 speed, I swapped my 09 WRX with STI 6-speed transmission and diff that had the Torsen diffs front and rear. The change in how the car handled was incredible. Instead of one (maybe two) wheel peel, it just goes where I point it and mash the skinny pedal. Get the Rally Diffs and you'll be a believer.
Side note - understanding how the torsen diffs works isn't intuitive, but the design is awesome. If you could show (on camera) how one works, that would be killer too!
World class navigating by Moog, calling gears and everything 👌
Peter at Road Rage seems like a really nice guy, and knowledgeable.
Lightbar required. Great series guys
Rally cars have extra lights! Add some 👍
From driveway to the amazing super garage and keeping the amazing content and attitude love the work you guys put in to making amazing content for all the fans
😂😂😂😅 toilet paper 🧻 mon 😅😅 Great Driving - glad to See you guys having a great time out there 😎👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Awesome. Need more lights and a night vision camera.
Ha!! great to see Moog employing the 'MANPON' technique. My mate George was the pioneer of this at music festivals!!!
I love the progress YARIS HILTON has made lol 💪😜🔥🏁🔰🇯🇵
the end was worth hanging around for - totally grot, but so damn funny!
Moog and his "preparatory measures" (ready to pack his pants)
... and now I'm outta coffee.
Awesome to watch ya mate enjoying the GR-Yaris! Wish we had this nugget in the US!
I'd love a GR yaris, and that's coming from a guy who loves big 4x4's 😂
Nice work Marty.
Going to be interesting to see how available the GR Corolla is.
That's why you are here: THE BEST 4X4 CHANNEL IN THE WORLD
Geez this footage looks crisp!
I want a GR sooooo bad.
Legends! Thank you for everything you do 🤘🙌🤘🙌🤘🙌
for the winter rallycross, chuck on a little ebay light bar. you don't need $800 spotties, and good spread you get from those cheap and nasty bars would be more useful to see around corners than being able to read a newspaper by the light 1km away. Reckon you might even get a small light bar behind the grille for a nice clean install. Just a thought. My daily commute is a twisty bendy drive up and down a rainforested mountain range, light bar for seeing around corners at night is boss.
Thoroughly enjoyable, thank you.
been watching the content for years and always good shit another quality video boys, cheers
Would like to see this vs the Focus RS.
Need to see this, and more RS videos!!
It’d kill it
what ever happened to that schnitzel?
@Thor Odin son maybe, maybe not, this has the advantage of much lighter weight.
Best episode in a while.
Put light bar on licence for more lighting at night. They sell then at Kings 4wd centre.
Undies with toilet paper made me laugh so loud and lost my air. Man that was awesome!
Very cool car, that exhaust has potential too. You guys always put out great videos, thanks.
15 sec old upload already 15 views , you guys are AWESOME KEEP IT UP
greetings from the netherlands
w00t, shoutout from The Netherlands aswell !!
Love this! Two mates just having fun with cars
I love this series of "Marty Car Mods" :)
Love the music in this one. Nice work Moog.
Mods that I would add - lower-torque arm bushing or the whole thing. Exhaust for just giggles as it makes the feel of the car different. Seat lowering kit - had SuspensionSecrets one and it transformed the car! 35mm change is massive when I swapped back to the regular seat height.
Oh and lighter wheels like the rallye should also feel good.
I'd also recommend the TGR mirror riser on top of all this and remove the fake engine noise via carista (or have the dealership do this).
@@OmaygaDesigns if you lower the seat the mirror is not that big problem.
That fake engine noise is fine until you do a exhaust mod. Feels more like a setting than mod :D
GReat video once again. First mod I did was the front camber bolts (Powerflex PFA100-17). In OZ you have Whiteline (KCA-417) easily available. Both these give you an extra + / - 1.5° camber adjustability which the car really needs as the front stock camber bolts are static setting to -1.5°. I noticed the outer section of the front tyres getting excessively worn out. This car needs -2 to -2.5° for road and occasional track days. -3° to -3.5° is more for the regular track days but a bit excessive for road use.
The rear stock camber setting (-2°) is OK for road and occasional track days.
Lol watching y’all on the track was fun.
Hey guys long time fan here in the US. Love your show, i have your book as well.
Please Chop the background music, we tune in listen to you both and the background distraction is unnecessary.
We have always tuned in for Moog and Marty!!! You guys are awesome please don’t dilute it!!!
That yaris that placed 5th in wtac had a hell of a lot more done to it than you think old mate
I'd love to take yous for a spin in my Tarmac Rally car 💯 280hp k20 ef(boxy) civic weighs 850-900kg
Great video lads more sprint footage 👏👍👌
I’m digging the jams in this one nice work
