      Wonder how many float tubers get legs nibbled on by sharks?

    Hey, thanks for the video. My hot tip for you: Marine Stadium has a resident population of bonefish. Not going to say anymore.

    Love this place for spotted bay bass. Never had much luck with halibut.

      Yeah I’ve mostly caught spotted bass in the back bay but you can get halibut too. I got a decent little one out in the channel last week probably about 16-18 inches jigging an artificial minnow off the bottom.

      I think this place had many Halibut but must have live bait ( Enchovy or smelt….) .

    I really liked this video. I'm still fairly new to fishing the bays. This is great for people who aren't sure where to park and launch. I would definitely be interested in more of these videos. maybe Huntington beach harbor next?

    • @OrneryBob
      @OrneryBob  6 років тому

      I never do. There's never been a problem in any harbor or bay. Attacks are extremely rare and have only ever happened in open water.

    Really great video Bob, was trying to reach out to you about this place. I think your website is down and the Float tube fishing forum, while I can see the posts I can't join since the verification process just hangs up and does not allow me to register. Very much hope to see you here sometime, taking my tube out for the first time this week at SARL then going to try this bay.

    Bob, I love your videos! I fish HH in my small boat a few times a month. I have seen you out on a few occasions at Huntington. Never got to say hi. I recently purchased a float tube and would love to meet up (hope you're feeling well). I did have a question about the street parking that you mention. Is there a time restriction? Ex. No parking before 6am. Thanks!

    • @OrneryBob
      @OrneryBob  6 років тому

      The parking lot at Seabridge Park there at Huntington Harbor opens at 5:00 AM. The launch ramp is open 24 hrs. Hope to see you out there!

    Great video!! I have been really been interested in fishing the bays on a float tube or kayak but I never really knew the ins and outs of the area. Are there certain rules to fishing these bays that I should be cautious of? is the bay pretty much open to fishing wherever? Do I need some kind of permit? Sorry for the questions. I just want to go in with this path knowing everything I need to know. Thanks again for the great video Bob.

      Happy to answer any questions. You will need a California Sport Fishing License with the "Ocean Enhancement Validation." You can buy it online but you will need to wait for it to arrive by mail before you go out. Or you can buy it at a License Agent (usually a tackle store). You can search for them online.
      You have to follow all the rules about the minimum length to keep fish, but I recommend that you catch and release all the fish you catch, even the big ones. Take a picture and then release it.
      You have to stay out of the Marine Stadium after 8:00 am but all other areas are open for fishing. All docks are private and you must stay off, but the water is yours to enjoy. Please be courteous (like being quiet in the morning) and don't cast into tight spots near boats if you don't have the skill to keep your lure clear of the boat. Finding a lure hooked into their rigging really pisses off boat owners. Most importantly, be safe - you're low in the water and hard to see. You have to keep your head on a swivel and stay aware of what's coming your way.

      Thanks Bob. I will look into all this info you've provided. I have become a bit frustrated with the limited and high pressure fishing spots. Hopefully I can get in the water soon. Thanks again and awesome channel.

    Now for fishing along the jetties ( the left side if your are going out towards the open ocean. Can you fish there without a problem ? I know there is incoming traffic.

    • @OrneryBob
      @OrneryBob  6 років тому

      Yes, you can fish there, and yes, you will need to watch out for boat and jet ski traffic.

    Why is it tricky I'm new to this and I fish a lot on the seal beach Jetty the one u mention all the way at the end or in between the Jetty please advice

    • @OrneryBob
      @OrneryBob  7 років тому

      You can fish from public piers without a license - Jetties are considered "public piers" under certain conditions -
      here's the law.... "Additionally, publicly owned jetties or breakwaters that are connected to land, as described above, that have free unrestricted access for the general public and whose purpose it is to form the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor are public piers. Jetties, breakwaters, promenades, sea walls, moles, docks, linings, barriers and other structures that are not the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor, are not public piers."
      The jetties at Los Alamitos fit this description, so you're OK.

    Do u need a licence for the mother's beach or the jettys

    • @OrneryBob
      @OrneryBob  7 років тому

      Yes, you need a fishing license to fish from Mother's Beach. As for the jetties - it's tricky - www.wildlife.ca.gov/fishing/ocean/beach-fishing#320781172-where-and-when-can-i-fish-in-the-ocean-without-a-fishing-license

    Am I allowed to shore fish the whole beach on the outer bay, the sand?

    • @OrneryBob

      Some parts of the beach are part of private marinas, but any of the beach where there are houses behind you is ok.

      You can catch everything the bay offers. Halibut, sand bass, spotties, mackerel, you name it, it all goes by there.

    I just watched this video and I’m arguing with my brother that the hookup baits work. How many fish have you caught with them? He says that there’s no way they get hit...

      Ornery Bob just described every fishing spot in Alamitos Bay with a pretty fine angler's sense - although I think the rules for fishing in the Stadium area might have changed since this video was filmed. If he says he has good success on Spotties, Calicos and Halibut in the bay, I think its safe to say you can trust his advice.
