Awesome video. We don't like the handle on the post as well and mods for this kit are in the works. The first mods would be a new low pro handle, a thread adapter for smaller hole saws, ball bearing replacement guide and a more robust clamp. Next year this kit should be a beast! All good things take time. Keep it up man.

Washers or a spacer plate under the clamp will center it. You could also make different thickness clamp spacers to offset the pipe further for different offset cuts.

Instead of grinding on the V part. Shim up the arbor holder.
With the amount of adjustment you have to move the entire notcher assembly up/down on the stand bracket, you should not have an alignment problem with the drill press. Since the drill press can rotate also it will work, just have to fiddle with it like before to get everything lined back up.
Make it a big flat washer the size of the metal bearing holder and it will be just as strong as original and not just a small surface area of the washers taking all the forces applied to it.

This press has worked like a charm for my projects ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with. This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

great looking setup .. only thing I would do it oil the hole saw bit would save a bit of life in the cutting another tool they could add too that set up would be a extra leg like a tripod to hold up a long pipe if you have no friends to hold it ,, talking like a 4 ft or longer pipe the weight could tip the unit over or put stress on the unit would need to test it to know for sure ..thanks for the Video Red Beard ,,

I've got that drill press set up as a drill press normally, modified the same notcher to make it work. It needs a few mods on both to make them not bad. It's all about the hole saws themselves. Belt speed is one step on primary from stock. Stock belt catches too much, no torque.

  • @Rad.Dad.Customs

For the ones who have used many different hole saws the Hercules hole saws are a awesome deal. They appear to be the closest thing out that compares to the Milwaukee ones and the Milwaukee ones are the best ones out in my opinion. But the Milwaukee ones are rather pricey.

It’s the weight of the pipe pulling down the end of the pipe. A small roller to hold the other end of pipe will take care of height. Just try out

I can see that the drill press spindle/chuck compensates for the clearance of the shaft on the HF notcher , very impressive setup. I want one! I already have the HF notcher. All I need is the drill press and the kit. Thanks for the info . As always your channel is a Pipeline to great tech for the hobby. If you think it fits the purposes of your channel, it would be helpful to unravel the compatibility of the various components used in the karts, like 150, 200, 250, 300 cc etc. I am currently fabricating spindles to fit hubs with brake disks from a 150 cc kart. Do the spindle sizes and brakes change as the cc size gets larger? I haven't found data on this any where.

You should have put a sim plate under the v notch clamp. Seen others here on YT that have done that, and the notches are spot on equal. Easily done. The trace the clamp base, and drill through holes.
This is an edit. I wrote the first part before you mentioned it. Cheers

I don't know if this is the place to ask a question but I'm going to put a Predator 459 on a golf cart. I went to a wrecking yard for golf carts and bought a gas transaxle with reverse as the cart I got was electric. Paid way to much but I guess they are expensive so now I need a drive clutch which one would you recommend? I found a 1 Inch bore but i'm a bit skeptical about using a taper adapter to fit the clutch to the shaft. Is there a better way? Thanks so much subscriber Larry Frazier.

Maybe a dumb question, but why would you want to mount the drill press sideways for notching tube vs just keeping it setup and a normal drill press and use the notcher with it vertically?

That's where your problem is, that's why it's cutting off like that, it's in the step where you mounted the pole with the gears to the stand, that bolt is not lined up properly, it's a single bolt, so you should be able to get it more level / straight. Like I said, look at it from the side, then you'll see that that the pipe with the gear isn't mounted level to the stand.

for the original height adjustment of the drillpress : maibe you can rotate the part that bolts to the original drill table and have the ajustment on the under side , should be a little more out of the way , can mount a lathe style metal wheel on it so it adjust eazier from the side
doesnt seem to be a need to adjust the drill press part though
putting a cart steeringwheel in place of the 3 quill levers might make the setup eazier to operate
