Friggen LOVE this song!
Kind of like a Bob Dylan story, listening to it for the 12,000 time. Rod Stewart with The Faces were epic.
I love the bashy drums on this song!
Another great song/album from 1971
This is a great album from Rod!
Great Album, Rod kills it!
Share more Rod! So many great hits!
He is a legend!
This is a song that shouldn't work. But it does. Gloriously.
I said it before , this is a full album listen! Mandolin Wind baby!
I never get tired of hearing Rod paint this picture.
Agree!!!!
Mandolin Wind, also on this album, is one of few songs that can bring tears to my eyes on any given listen.
That's why i played it my Wife's funeral.
His finest Album by a country mile, not a bad track on it...utterly magic LP!
I agree, I think it’s his best. I wish he’d stop with the Motown and soul covers though.
Love this song!
Mandolin Wind and You Wear it Well are also very good!
Love him
Pure rock'n roll guys, that's all it is! Go with the flow!!
NICE! Fantastic song!
A great coming-of-age story. Listening song.
This came out just as I was wrapping up my junior year of high school, and it became part of the soundtrack of the summer before my senior year.
Any song from this album automatically brings me back to those days.
The entire record is worth a listen.
Thanks for the music and the memories, fellas!
This was definitely a soundtrack album.
Yep…. Soudtrack of my youth…. The early 1970’s…@@arjaylee
Back in the day you'd go to the record store with your friends, buy the latest album and go to your friends house and sit in his bedroom and listen to it for th next few hours. (Maybe smoking some refreshments.) This was one of those albums.
I have so many good memories of Rod Stewart. I was given this album in eleventh grade by a boy who sat behind me in history class, because he had a crush on me. I played it at least 100 times.
The second memory is a sold out Rod Stewart concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit and the entire audience was standing and and singing Maggie May with him. It was incredible.
Look how wrong you can be.
Love that line.
Indeed “I really thought I was so complete.” Indeed. Took a long time to outgrow that.
Love that old song.
This is a tale of a young man coming of age. He is bored & restless & with his fathers encouragement leaves home to tour the world. He travels to Paris, Rome, & then on to Asia. He gives a brief account of his troubles in Paris and Rome, and why he leaves both places. When he arrives in Asia, he meets & falls in love with a fantastic Asian Lady on a ferry and finally finds what he has been searching for.
Sorta like Steve Martin in The Jerk finding his special purpose lol.
That's the best explanation for this song. Excellent
Great Great song 😮
Rod kicking it out back in rock & roll days. The drumming is outstanding on this album, and Rod's voice is killer. Great choice, guys.
Airplay Beats nothing but net from behind the line again. He's English with Scottish descent. Rod was a Player back in the day.
This entire album is classic. Thanks for playing some old-time Rod Stewart.
Excellent..!!!
I don't know man. Perfect.
a great band top to bottom
Controlled Chaos. A great song, that’s all over the place. Love the bass.
Rod Stewart and Faces is some of his earliest work and it’s worth a listen. He also sang lead vocals for Jeff Beck early on
When my sister brought this vinyl home, the whole house heard it. I remember this album vividly. Great song and has Ron Woods all over it.
"My body stunk, but I kept my funk..." 🤘 Rod Stewart is from Scotland and supports Glasgow Celtic.
Rod at his ass kicking, rock and roll best! Their version of I Know I'm Losing You is amazing, last song on album
The vocals intertwined with Maggie Bell. And the drumming... THE DRUMMING! Everything about it.
The lyrics are awesome
you listen to it a few times and get the groove-it will become one of your favorites
a great rock n roll song w/o electric guitars. acoustic and percussion and vocals. keep on rockin
This, Maggie May, Mandolin Wind, You Wear It Well are all very cinematic songs which Rod Stewart does so well! And Shanghai Lil may have been the only one of us females in the 70’s *not* on the pill lol 😂
Can you imagine talking about a "slit-eyed lady" today? Canceled!!!
@user-pf7jm9go6o newrly everybody's soft and weak in the West now
Now that's music 😮
Rod Stewart was from North of London and was discovered by Long John Baldry who later discovered a piano player known later as Elton John. Rod and Elton obviously big stars in the Rock world of London and later moved to Beverly Hills. He was always quite a crooner and came up with his band known as the Faces. Good story.
Sickest drum fills ever.
Best ever Rod Stewart song 😍😍
This is Rod Stewart in his absolute prime, before he became a lounge lizard. Micky Waller's drum pattern is just perfect, and the lyrics are sharp and relatable.
Que buena canción, tuve la suerte de conocerá Rod personalmente
Ronnie Wood ties this to the later '70s Stones. You really need a "School of Rock" type chart to track the bands back then. Bands like Zeppelin and Rush who kept personnel intact were the exception.
Living the dream 🎸🍷🏁
Banger 8).
I know I have mentioned this a couple times but if you check out the album from Jeff Beck called truth, you will hear Rod Stewart's vocals on a completely different level!
Yes! I got "Truth" when it first came out & still love it. Would suggest "Ain't Superstitious" from it.
@charcanuck4886 I suggest the entire album, they'll love it❗️
First album I ever bought 🙏🇬🇧
He’s an avid soccer (football) player from Great Britain and an amazing vocal talent. Maggie May will rock your boat!❤
Classic LP. The time signature on this is a wonder. When I first heard it, it drew me in.
If you haven't done so already you should check the Faces album, "A Nod is as Good as a Wink to a Blind Horse", fantastic early Rod Stewart!
Pure rock 'n roll
Rod Stewart was born in Scotland.
...based, mainly, in England.
[note the album: Atlantic Crossing -This was when he, first moved to the U.S.]
One of my favorites. This album is top notch! That break with the two vocals is so cool.
Another great voice. Seen him live sounds exactly the same. But do love this older stuff from him.
Not surprisingly, the Faces catalog (that's a deep dive on its own) has a lot of this same sort of boozy ramshackle quality to it.
This album is amazing. Rocking Rod at his best. Keep them coming!
One of the greateat rockers ever written. Love this song. Love this album. Stewart is great, of course, but the whole band is right there with him. Total awesomeness.
My favorite Rod Stewart record. So soulful, and it indeed tells a fine story. It grows on you.
Rod Stewart is from England. He and Elton John were (and are) fast friends, and were known for their hard partying together.
Gran banda
My friends, this is what is known as a grower, not a shower. It might take repeated listenings to absorb this unusual groove, but it's right there waiting. It's a story well told.
This song ROCKS from start to finish, well controlled chaos.
Y'all felt it
I heard somewhere that this was the first take and it was considered so good that despite him coming in too early towards the end it was the chosen track…
Hardest song I've ever tried to sing. The bass and drums are ridiculously good! Rods best song IMO.
He was always a story teller. His work is so deep.
What a gift to see this pop up today! One of my favorites of Rod Stewart. His old stuff, this and Never a Dull Moment are fantastic.
Thanks for reacting to this!
It's basically a measure of six beats, followed by two measures of four beats each - except that the snare drum is accenting the off-beats, and then two more measures of four beats each, but played straight. Once you get used to this pattern, it actually flows pretty naturally. I'm guessing that Ronnie Wood (who co-wrote the song with Stewart) probably came up with this pattern on the acoustic guitar organically without even thinking about the time signature.
Thanks for breaking it down
If you want to hear the best album Stewart ever did, It was with Jeff Beck. Album called TRUTH@@AirplayBeats
Great song and album, you need to hear the whole thing as you can. Rod was a star in a galaxy of stars back then, he was from England and came from the Jeff Beck Group and then the Faces, 2 utterly great bands. Next try, I Know I'm Losing You, from the same album, Every Picture Tells a Story, the studio is magnificent and their are also killer live videos of it back then. Rare Earth also does a tremendous version of it. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Every song Rod Stewart did with Ron Wood is the best. I feel Ronnie Wood is the grit behind the stones even. Loved this song when I was 17 there was something magical about it.
Buena entrevista
Buen ritmo, esa batería es genial
The woman singing with him is Maggie Bell, a Scottish singer who I think gives Janis Joplin a run for her money. Check out her band Stone the Crows' self-titled album from 1970.
Back in the days when he fronted a truly great band & made decent music, great times!😎
yes indeed!! this track along with 'mandolin wind' are my 2 favourites!! 'maggie may' has been played to death but (i know i'm) losing you & reason to believe, both covers, are also great songs!!
@@normankennith7919 Stay With Me also.
This Band ,Small Faces was a party band Timing some times was a little loose BUT WOW what a great time !!! Saw them and Rod EVERYTIME they showed up at the Spectrum in Philly. Cocaine and Southern Comfort was the order of the day and Rod dancin' and partyin'
AAhhh the 70"s !!! I'm loseing you from this album is GREAT!!!! Keep up the good work.
Rod is a Scotsman. Stewart is a Scottish name. Also playing guitar in his band is the great guitarist now with The Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood. Yes, Rod is from Scottland.
The bass and drums kick ass.
thus was in my high school days, too. You really should listen to the version of I'm Losing You from this album, they tear it up and his version was a hit, too. I love how you guys listen, your parents raised you right and should be proud. Kepp it up!
Son muy entretenidos
Rod was a great front man , and had the pleasure to play with Jeff Beck, and Ronnie Wood, the Stones guitarist , who replaced Mick Taylor.
If you stay on a straight four to the floor beat, it works. Try listening to it again and tap your foot or bop your head straight up 1234, 1234…. And you will be in the groove.
The album credits "vocal abrasives- Maggie Bell", she of Stone the Crows. Kind of set the pace for all female accompaniment (of Rock songs) for 50 years. Peace, love and bellbottoms from Canada.
Rod sounds so good on this, and Woods guitars are perfect for this song :)
Rod Stewart was born in England but his dad was Scots. He started with a couple of bands before joining Jeff Beck in his self titled group, which also included Ronnie Wood (future member of the Rolling Stones). After the Jeff Beck Group, both he and Ronnie joined the Faces, during which Stewart also maintained a solo career; managing to release three albums on his own before the Faces broke up in 1975. Ronnie Wood played guitar and bass on this and backup vocals in this song were provided by John Baldry, who gave Rod his start when joined Baldry's band in 1964. In addition to Baldry, Maggie Bell, a Scottish singer from a group called Stone the Crows provided vocals. Maggie Bell had been signed to Led Zeppelin's Swan Song record label. I love this song for its exuberance. I don't have a musical background and couldn't tell you time signatures, etc., but the song is rollicking. Stewart's raspy voice is different enough that you do want to listen to what he has to say and I love the conversational tone of someone telling a story. Stewart's style started as blues/R&B/rock, moved on with a bit of disco/new wave before moving to a more soft rock, then on to contemporary music style, favoring renditions from the Great American Songbook as well as occasional original material. He's still out and about performing today.
You can just hear Tina sangin this one huh
Excellent overview and commentary. Regards
Thanks! :)
@@henriettaskolnick4445 omg! I wasn’t paying attention to the fact that this was “Henri!” Hello dear. 😉 Always good to catch-up with you and your comments. I always learn something interesting from you about this Era we love and grew up in. I believe I saw a UA-cam clip recently with Rod announcing an “official” retirement or date for. Have you heard anything about this? Regards
@@ronaldelliott4373 No worries! No, I haven't heard that he was retiring outright; what I've seen is that he'd like to move away from "rock and roll" into other musical areas - I think a swing music album was planned at the time.
One of my favorite
Early Rod ...magnificent!
Go Laa and Chee! Loving every beat…..
Perfecto
Este tema me a echo acordar un película
Excelente 👌
The first song is a banger on an album that is complete 🔥
His music with the Faces is my favorite but I've come to appreciate his later solo work as well. Check out the Motown Song with the Temptations singing background.
Wow que bueno
He’s from Scotland!!💕
Early Rod is amazing. Jeff Beck Group. Faces. Dive in!
Lots of us feel this is Stewart's best song.
Favorite Rod Stewart song.
One of my favorite songs,,ever
Rod Stewart was born in upmarket Highgate in London. His Dad was Scottish, from Edinburgh.
