As a previous owner of the Mitsubishi ute I traded that in for a 2019 5 seat Pajero Sport. I have had a lot of vehicles in my life, but the sport is one a few of the cars that I really enjoy driving each day. It is relatively light on fuel, around 8-8.5l/100, tows well and has a great gearbox. I would not mind having 8" though, size does matter. ( I am referring to the infotainment center)

Good day, I had mine remapped, reflashed Don not know though if I did the right thing long term wise. I also had jaos suspension installed. It now has 220whp and 520nm torque. And very reliable suspension. The rest I have no complaints whatsoever. It is a very very amazing car to drive
Currently own Triton MQ 2018, have loved it so much that’s it’s sad I’ll have to upgrade soon as my partner and I have our little 2, I’ve loved Mitsubishi since owning a Lancer before my Triton and was swaying more towards Pajero, MUX and Fortuner but Pajero has had a lot of good review and fair price! Thanks for the content
This channel maybe does the best day to day cars review after carwow. But I can relate to this channel more as the car models available in Australia is more like my country.
I'm choosing between Fortuner and Pajero Sport, but getting more confused after reading the comments. I know both off-road is good, but what about the ride quality and interior built quality? Did the Mits bad on interior built quality? Just want an SUV that provides a comfortable ride in the city (and maybe on the gravel too) but also provides good quality 4x4 system. I was looking for a Prado in the past few months, and I rent it for a few days for some driving, it's good but it's a long list to wait in Australia. I turn to my Plan B with Fortuner and Pajero Sport but have no chance to drive them, not sure how they feel. Of perhaps there is some other options for me to look at?
Love your review as usual, Paul! I love how you don't just skim the infotainment section in your reviews. This is prolly left-field comment, but I love the fact that they have the HDMI port on this car. I'm a fan of HDMI because I can hook up my Raspberry Pi and have full control as to what displays on the screen, just like having a computer up (web browsing, video, GPS mirroring, and even screen splitting to achieve both at the same time). These customisability I can't get no matter how good Android Auto is. I have a Honda and with a Honda there's even that 3-button trick that can turn of the "safety" (can't view HDMI while driving). I wish Mitsubishi will have the same easy hack in their system.
Had my 2020 Exceed for 2 weeks now, upgraded from Kia Sportage GT Line. You're right about the seats, they're so comfy! Haven't been able to take it off road yet, but dying to get it onto the beach. If you do get to do an off-road review, throw in some beach driving if you can please 😁 I've seen plenty of bush off road driving reviews, but no beach ones!
I'm almost jealous, congratulations on your new Pajero Exceed, a brilliant package with serious off road capability, seems to be an underrated vehicle, so jealous...😬
Nice review but it's Good that the suspension is tuned for comfort, and also no one ever touches a dashboard, so it does not have to be soft. This soft touch dashboard complaint utterly rediculous. This Pajero looks Amazing.
My point exactly about interior materials. We have a society obsessed with bullshit marketing of cars as fashion statements and millennials who want everything soft and comfy in their lives.
Wow. This and the triton are stunning !! Much more attractive than the 4Runner and Tacoma we get in USA. If these were offered here I would totally purchase this suv over 4Runner. The Mitsubishis in my opinion at least back in 1997 - early 00’s were really smooth running and riding. The last montero/pajero (2006?) that we got here was and still is amazing. I’m currently searching for one to purchase!
The Pajero Sport has better drivability than the Triton double cab, mostly due to the 8 speed auto box, but the car could do with more power and its lagging behind the competition. The suspension is also to soft and the off road system could do with an upgrade where the traction control stays on for the front wheels when the diff lock is engaged. The position of the electric window buttons is also hampered by the door handel. Ground clearance is also lagging behind the competition at only 218mm. The sidesteps hampers its off road ability and it makes marks on your pants when you get out of the vehicle. The 10 000km service intervals are also lagging behind the 15 000 km intervals of the competition If they can fix these things, the Pajero Sport would have a much bigger market share
I had 2020 exceed for work and now bought 2022 exceed , feels way better than Prado or standard Pajero . Amazing power and sound proofing in exceed is amazing . Build quality is way better than Toyota interior and exterior. Perfect for our German Shepard.. he loves his nap with nice space and aircon at the back
We bought the exceed and love it, so many gadgets its a bit hard to take it all in first drive but getting used to it all now. It was smaller than what we thought it would be coming from a commodore wagon but definitely livable and the utility of the vehicle is hard to beat. I generally love the styling of it but yes I agree with you those rear tail lights...what drugs were the Mitsubishi stylist on that day? If they cut the big tail down of the rear lights out completely it would be a really nice looking SUV.
Tail lights look like as it is designed by an amateur designer. It is unnecessarily too big, function should define the form. It does not contribute to the overall design concept, it reduces the quality of the design. The front of the car is too complicated. So many bits & pieces without any function are added. If I buy that car, I would cover lower front of the car with a bull bar to cover all that ugliness. Compared with the original Pajero, Mitsubishi lowered the quality of the design.
I like the old rear lights. Also, why do all journos have a soft-touch-ometer, but no one can tell me what the NVH levels are at highway speeds? Nice review though, very thorough!
Excellent review Paul! In a few years we are looking at becoming grey nomads, towing the 20' van and seeing this great country of Australia at a slower pace. I've watched many reviews of this vehicle and yours has concluded to me that this is the best value for money. Especially given I have previously purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee as then later a Mercedes GL at $145k. Neither had the outstanding warranty on offer, although I still miss the GL for comfort, ride and security
i'm going to have to say, the pajero isn't based on a ute/ pick up, the ute/pick up they produce is made from the pajero, the pajero was in production long before they went into producing what those aussies call a ute/ pick up, in other places the pajero is also known as the shogun, its a 4x4 designed to compete with the likes of range rovers and land rovers. the pajero does not use the pick up chassis, the pick they make uses the pajero chassis.
I think you may be confused. The Pajero Sport (Montero) shares a platform with the Triton dual-cab utility, it has no relation to the Pajero. The Pajero sits on a monocoque chassis, whereas the Pajero Sport and Triton share a ladder frame chassis.
I had a 97 Pajero, drove it till it was ruined by a stupid mechanic, got a 2007 triton, still got it. 250,000 klicks later still hasn’t missed a beat, my next car will be something with more head room for me, I find as I’m getting older the triton 🔱 is becoming a hard drive over long distances of 30 to 500 kms a day, I think my next car will be a new Pajero again
I liked this one too, although I reviewed the Exceed model. On normal roads I thought the steering was a bit vague and the ride just a bit bouncy to be a daily driver. Off-road it just flew up steep dirt tracks. It's a shame the all-digital dash display is not standard across the range.
Agree with the comments about the exceed, well worth the price difference and also comes with digital dash which comes into its own on long trips in terms of data layouts for fuel, distance and navigation. I personally think it has a better road presence then the others as well in terms of asthetics. Would love it if they came out with a more powerful engine down the track
We have the Philippine market base GLX 4x2 with a 6-speed manual for almost four years now and has been very reliable. No major mechanical issues with regular maintenance. Although the middling interior build quality does surface after a few years as I hear more squeaks and rattles in the interior whenever I drive over very broken dirt roads. All-in-all, it's great value for the price we've paid for the car.
Interesting no comments saying it has a poor camera like in the 2022 model off-road review. I wonder if it would that was a fault or poor contrast. Also, I wonder if you you could use the 3rd row for passengers to stretch out?
Great review as always, we are looking at one of these either in GLS plus Deluxe pack or just jump to the Exceed [as you suggest]. One thing i may suggest for reviews is a quick 30 secs more on a deeper dive into safety specs. Some of these ute bases 4wds are light on safety vs "SUVs' ie full length curtain bags missing to cover 3rd row etc - important if your thinking kids in that row, and/or as we discovered better safety tech only on the top spec model in Pajero Sport. In our test drive we found the steering less direct, engine not overly peppy of the mark, requiring 2nd thoughts before leaping onto a roundabout, and yes a bit noisy out of the front end when you step on it. Shame the Rexton is troubled with Ssangyong ownership in doubt as the Ultimate spec interior and 20/21 upgrade seem excellent, but who's going to support the 7 yr warranty etc [in AU] if the parent company doesn't find a suitable partner, well priced too. We'll probably get "Sport" instead, hard to go wrong with 5 + 5 yr warranty. Appreciate the review, thanks again.
The rest of the world gets all the really cool global platform vehicles from manufacturers + compact diesels that are so much better in every way. It’s so frustrating.
Nice car ... I bought one but I returned it to the dealer ... because it has a defect “problem “ in the transmission ... when the shifting there is shaking in the vehicle ... I tried more than one and showed the same problem
Just bought this a week ago, really disappointed with the new Fortuner minimal updates and the 3rd row seats are trash. I've considered getting the Everest, Trailblazer and MU-X. Nothing really comes close to the Pajero Sport.

Thanks for an excellent, thorough review! By the way, thanks for the spec conversions, as well. It looks like, over the years, Mitsubishi has taken the space out of this car. The Pajeros that I grew up with seemed a lot more spacious. I was surprised to see how far up your knees were in the first and second rows.
Thanks, Bill! The Pajero is a slightly different car to the Pajero Sport. The Pajero Sport shares a platform with the Triton, whereas the Pajero uses a monocoque chassis.

It's my favourite. I'm wanting to buy one but waiting on job stability first with all the covid-19 going on.close 2nd is the Ford Everest and wondering if it's worth waiting to see what the Toyota Fortuner is going to bring to the table. But I think I will be very happy with the Pajero Sport exceed model as my very first 4WD.
The new Fortuner would want to be significantly better than the current one to merit a run over the Everest or Pajero Sport. The Everest is definitely worth testing - we will have a review on the channel in the coming weeks.
Great review. I always said it is better than the Fortuner to live with every day. Agree with the rear suspension setup, not resolved. Driven both on and off-road. Still, the Pajero is a better bet, it's cheaper and more economical
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say..
Another great presentation by Paul. It’s a shame that a renowned company like Mitsubishi making not so very practical SUV. In terms of price, I think the quality doesn’t matched. Where other competitors offering much more practical off-road suv.
I can't imagine the persom at middle second row seat nightmare for fixing the seats belts. What about the rear seat folding set up, MuX and Everest are better way in folding seats and interior space. And for a long drive I reckoned your left knee will be anoyed at the center console. Aside from that quick observation, this SuV is good enough for a Family.. Nice Video Paul..

Tight turning circle, tight steering very precise & direct not to soft not to heavy, trans is smooth and responsive, overall best purchase ever! Great review cheers!
Why hate? Everyone is sleeping and no one talking to the driver?
After seeing this review, we in Indonesia is really lucky to get a sunroof on pajero sport, but there are some bit that we still dont have, like that seatbelt indicator, leather padding on front doorpanel, and an integrated head unit (its only available on Dakar 4x4 Ultimate model) anyway i love the way you review the car, simple and just neat. Greetings from Indonesia🇮🇩
I wish the US got the Pajero. I would buy one in a heartbeat
Ah turns out i wasn't the only Indonesian here.. Greetings brother
@@etr752 I seriously wonder why Mitsubishi US didn't bring their "Dakar-winning" SUV and their light truck to the US of Trucks? Do they hate money?
Best mid-suv. Nice review
A proper review mate, thanks!
Wish we would have some good reviewers here in germany, but they totally suck nowadays
Good day, I had mine remapped, reflashed Don not know though if I did the right thing long term wise. I also had jaos suspension installed. It now has 220whp and 520nm torque. And very reliable suspension. The rest I have no complaints whatsoever. It is a very very amazing car to drive
Good review and timing for me as I’m going to check out one of these next week.
Excellent timing! Tell them Paul sent you. Actually, don't, it won't help with the price, ha ha.
The only thing I can criticise about my 2021 Pajero Sport is the proximity of the tow ball to the rear bumper. Otherwise a fantastic car
Now we know where the new Outlander design has come from.
Would've been nice if you also mention the options between the high end models
Mitsubishi set up a new plant in India. Hope they come back with a bang. Can't wait to see Mitsubishi back on Indian roads
I like this Pajero sport, i wish its now in the PH market. Very sturdy look and strong! Love it!
Pick mine up on Friday can’t wait
I simply love the tail light
The Pajero Sport has better drivability than the Triton double cab, mostly due to the 8 speed auto box, but the car could do with more power and its lagging behind the competition. The suspension is also to soft and the off road system could do with an upgrade where the traction control stays on for the front wheels when the diff lock is engaged. The position of the electric window buttons is also hampered by the door handel. Ground clearance is also lagging behind the competition at only 218mm. The sidesteps hampers its off road ability and it makes marks on your pants when you get out of the vehicle. The 10 000km service intervals are also lagging behind the 15 000 km intervals of the competition If they can fix these things, the Pajero Sport would have a much bigger market share
here in Australia the service interval is 15k
I had 2020 exceed for work and now bought 2022 exceed , feels way better than Prado or standard Pajero . Amazing power and sound proofing in exceed is amazing . Build quality is way better than Toyota interior and exterior. Perfect for our German Shepard.. he loves his nap with nice space and aircon at the back
Bouncy 4x4 are the most favorite SUVs in middle east .. it resembles the power of 4x4
Good review. Different and relatively detailed
Thank you!
This car selling point is the 2H, 4H,4HLc,4LLc mode option, part-time 4d or awd multiple function
Nice truck good review.... greetings from Guatemala 🇬🇹 amigo
I love this car & this Chanel... 😄🙏👍
Thanks mate!
i'm going to have to say, the pajero isn't based on a ute/ pick up, the ute/pick up they produce is made from the pajero, the pajero was in production long before they went into producing what those aussies call a ute/ pick up, in other places the pajero is also known as the shogun, its a 4x4 designed to compete with the likes of range rovers and land rovers. the pajero does not use the pick up chassis, the pick they make uses the pajero chassis.
Finally a good looking Mitsu
The Rear end is much improved, but you do need the Rear Spoiler to complete
We have the Philippine market base GLX 4x2 with a 6-speed manual for almost four years now and has been very reliable. No major mechanical issues with regular maintenance. Although the middling interior build quality does surface after a few years as I hear more squeaks and rattles in the interior whenever I drive over very broken dirt roads. All-in-all, it's great value for the price we've paid for the car.
Thank you Paul 😍😍😍
Thanks!
I really would like to have the Mitsubishi Pajero here in the US, I love Mitsubishi.
The rest of the world gets all the really cool global platform vehicles from manufacturers + compact diesels that are so much better in every way. It’s so frustrating.
You guys have great SUVs too Escalade,Navigator,Tahoe,Expedition!!!
But I'm a Mitsubishi fan.
@@rogerbarrero you guys have eclipse cross and outander not bad!!
Yeah, they are not bad, but nothing similar to the Pajero.
I have one and i love it...
Nice car ... I bought one but I returned it to the dealer ... because it has a defect “problem “ in the transmission ... when the shifting there is shaking in the vehicle ... I tried more than one and showed the same problem
Hey Paul, Tanks for your review it was great. Do you know when the 2022 Pajero sport is coming to Australia?
Just bought this a week ago, really disappointed with the new Fortuner minimal updates and the 3rd row seats are trash. I've considered getting the Everest, Trailblazer and MU-X. Nothing really comes close to the Pajero Sport.
This car just doesn't offer anything over the competition
We need this in the USA 🇺🇸
👏👏
Everyone loves Mitsubishi automobiles. Ever wonder what the three diamonds are? They are the blades of airplane propellers. The same company that made the infamous Zero used to spearhead the attack on Pearl Harbor- is on American roads today. If you don't hold the corporations and their owners accountable, you certainly can't count on the "market" to do it.
This review is now almost 2 yrs old ...are there improvements with the new 2022 MY22 model?
Hi Paul what about body roll over..according to you which one having less body roll over ? Isuzu, ford or mitsubishi
Nice detailed review 👍
Thanks for an excellent, thorough review! By the way, thanks for the spec conversions, as well. It looks like, over the years, Mitsubishi has taken the space out of this car. The Pajeros that I grew up with seemed a lot more spacious. I was surprised to see how far up your knees were in the first and second rows.
Thanks, Bill! The Pajero is a slightly different car to the Pajero Sport. The Pajero Sport shares a platform with the Triton, whereas the Pajero uses a monocoque chassis.
@@CarExpertAus slightly? The only thing they carried over was the name and a wheel on each corner! "I have a 1981 Pajero and geez this is nothing like it....."
That's because it is not a Pajero.
It's the new mitsubishi challenger, which is just a Triton wagon, but the marketing department renamed or Pajero sport
I'm from India..n my bro have pajero sport..awesome ride

Good review thanks.
Got one and love it!
Great review. I always said it is better than the Fortuner to live with every day. Agree with the rear suspension setup, not resolved. Driven both on and off-road. Still, the Pajero is a better bet, it's cheaper and more economical

A review of the outlander 2021 would be great????
Loving the 2020 Pajero Sport I bought for the Mrs😜
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say..
Only brand that can take over Toyota.
They're underrated and better than overpriced toyata cars.
I reckon the back looks much better!
Pajero Sport or Prado?
Hmm, at the moment I'd say Pajero Sport - but that may change once the Prado gets the upgraded HiLux diesel engine in September!
Another great presentation by Paul. It’s a shame that a renowned company like Mitsubishi making not so very practical SUV. In terms of price, I think the quality doesn’t matched. Where other competitors offering much more practical off-road suv.
The irony when Mitsubishi Motors advertised me a Montero when im about to watch a review of the Montero
😅
Same here
Please do a video on off-roading the Pajero Sport (any year)
I can't imagine the persom at middle second row seat nightmare for fixing the seats belts. What about the rear seat folding set up, MuX and Everest are better way in folding seats and interior space. And for a long drive I reckoned your left knee will be anoyed at the center console. Aside from that quick observation, this SuV is good enough for a Family.. Nice Video Paul..
They could have fix the back with this facelift
It’s a facelift, not a buttliftz :-)
