  • Everything works fine for a week until this problem occurs. Sometimes it powers off itself and can not be turned on. It will take minutes with multiple trying to make it on. When charging, it just contentiously reboot itself.

It worked!! it maybe an unconventional trick, but it saved me so much time. Seeing so many people having same problem with nexus.

If your nexus is restarting in every ~2 secs, than it means that your power button is STUCK.
    1. either you can flick your power button several times followed with few powerful clicks.
    2. or u can smack it near the corner of power button.
Both will work, just don't break anything

+Yash Chauhan Thanks that actually worked.
To be specific for anyone else that needs help, I tapped the corner of my phone continuously on a spiral notebook while it was in the booting loop. At some point it managed to get to the spinning icons. If I stopped tapping it restarted the loop but when I continued tapping it manage to finish the booting sequence.

Wow! I was skeptical about the solution here. But it incredibly worked for me. I carefully tapped the corner of the phone where power button is. If you are scared of hitting it on the floor/wall gently strike it with finger nails.

I have a solution for this.
First of all, I tried pressing the power button fast for a minute or two, and the phone stopped rebooting! But after ~12 hrs it started rebooting again and the trick didn't work again.
I then tried without success simply leaving the phone lying for a couple of days, as I've read that worked for some people.
Then I tried opening up the phone as I suspected some sort if short circuit. First getting the back loose with a knife (it's thight!). Then screwing the six tiny screews lose and lifting that part in the upper of the phone. Then I simply started wiggling a little bit on the curcuit board close to where the power button is. After a little bit of wiggling here and there and sort of lifting the circuit board a little, the phone stopped rebooting! And it hasn't rebooted since. I factory reset the phone asap, just to be sure.
    Hope this helped anyone!

Got this same issue this afternoon and got it fixed in 2 hours. None of the online method worked for me. Used my own way to fix it.
    - Plug it out from cables connected
    - Spam the power button repeatedly through out loading screen of 4 bubble.
    Try it.

Flik (don't press) the power button multiple times while the phone is put on charging. it should solve the problem temporarily. Install DTSO as your power button is broken now.

it works.....continuously TAP the start/reboot button till the charging battery icon appears on the blank screen.
did it for my mom's nexus5 and the weird trick worked.
i guess the case that was used, may have caused the button to get stuck in the phone!!!

I read online I could TAP the side of the phone where the power button is, sounded crazy but I had tried everything else so I had no option. With the phone on the charger I taped the power button with the handle of a small knife. I tapped for about 30 seconds untill GOOGLE stopped looping in and out and was steady. I still tapped at this point untill started booting. it took a very long time to boot but it worked. ( TAP the button while pluged in)

    HELP ME PLEASE?? PLEASE?
    1. I have the same problem: the power button keeps flicking on and off while charging.
    2. Tried most of the options below, nothing worked. Except when I hold my power button and the lower volume button, the broken android screen comes on and will flick once at the same speed of the google sign.
    3. I stripped down my entire phone then but my phone back together again, but still the same problems.
    4. I know though, that it is DEFINITELY not the power button that's not working, must be something else.

  • @cunhatutubas

This has already happened to me twice. Once I fixed it after removing the sim card. It kept rebooting for a couple of tries and then booted ok. The second time this didn't work. I shook the phone to see if there was some loose component inside and after a couple of shakes it booted ok. But if you ask me, these solutions and the others I've read all seem kind of random. I guess the best thing to do is to return the phone and ask for a new one.

Already on 5.0 Lollipop if it makes a difference.
Mine died at night. Got home and tried to plug it in. Immediately the google icon comes up without touching the power button. Stays on only for the google icon and stays in continuous loop of restarting. If i unplugged the phone after even an hour while "charging" it wont start. I read a lot on other forums about people slamming their phone down in anger and it fixed it. I kept clapping the phone in my hands while plugged in.
Then the battery icon for charging when its off came on and it was fixed!
I also tried taking the back plate off and removing the battery and wiggling the power button. Neither worked

+ritobt My nexus 5 just started doing this to me and I'm trying to look up fixes. I saw this and figured why not, so I smacked my phone against my palm twice and tried rebooting and it's back to working order so far as I can tell. The future of tech support has looped back araound to the early 90s where hitting your device actually fixes it.

I have the same problem twice once when I have kitkat and second time on lollipop.
    Their are only two reasons
    1 power button stuck inside.
Sol:open cover tap fast like playing game and also tap nearby area of power button.
2.sping inside the power module dislocated or break
Sol:get it repaired from local repair shop... In my case it cost 300rs...

Aight I'm back... I think I may have found a solution. Mine seems to be working fine for the moment.
So have your phone off. Hold the power and both volume buttons down until you see a dead android laying down. Use the volume buttons to scroll thru the options until it says "recovery mode" press the power button to select it. Use the volume button to scroll down to "Wipe Cache". It should take a maybe 10minutes. Then after that's done, the same screen will pop up when you selected the "wipe cache" I think and there should be a "Power Off" option. Press that and let your phone stay off for a maybe 10minutes to cool down before powering it back up. Hopefully that should solve the problem for you.
And if this starts to act up again for my phone I'm about to go fucking ape shit crazy because its been pissing me off for 4 days
