Guys this is not the fix for me, i just fixed it, just slam the phone on the table where the power on/off switch is. I dont mean you break it but just slam it. It workes perfectly for me now.
This trick didn't work for me when I kept clicking the button, but I held the phone on its side and repeatedly banged it on the table so the entire long side including the power button repeatedly hit the table. Not the screen, just the edge of the phone. If I kept doing this repeatedly it would stay on, and as you said once it stayed on for about a minute with the screen on, I stopped banging it on the table and it stayed on. I'm leaving it for a while with the charger plugged in and hopefully it will be "fixed" now. Maybe the power button will be a bit damaged after all the bashing on the table but I already bought a new N5 off ebay so this will become my spare. Thanks so much for this!
I went to LG service center in Pune, And they were saying that Motherboard is not working properly And hence need to be replaced with ~9000 INR. I took risk of trying by myself again, came across this video. This is really gr8 help, This workaround fix my issue too. For Running phone case: Basically power key press result into more that 2 interrupts(press + release), hence Android stack resulting into showing "power off" Menu and shutdown following. You can verify by using below command ( For linux, usb cable attach + enable usb debugging) while [ 1 ]; do sudo adb shell cat /proc/interrupts | grep kpd; done Another workaround I follow is 1) Install Gravity screen app to lock + Unlock phone 2) Install Power Button app to handle more than one pwr key press resulting into flash on[ rather than reboot phone] 3) I am thinking to open up phone and remove power key and use phone cover to cover it up. This will save this weird hardware issue.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I've searched and searched, and read many theories and possible fixes. Your fix worked. Why this isn't on Google's help site has me baffled unless they would rather let it go unsolved rather than admit a bug like this exists on their beloved flagship phone. Something that could be fixed with a BIOS type battery to allow trickle charging a totally dead main battery. But I guess if they did that they'd also have to eat the cost and billions upon billions in profits just ain't enough for new Nike's
Talk about a ridiculous solution to a ridiculous problem, but you saved the day! I really didn't like the idea of having to shell out $$$ for another phone, and now it looks like I won't have to. Thank you! I don't think it's a battery problem in my case. The battery was at 75% charged when all of this started immediately after applying the November 2015 security update.
+Ryan Perry IT happened to me to but this doesnt seem to fix it :( (Since novemeber security patch) I have to buy a new phone now :( nexus 6p here i come!
Thx for watching & if this video helped you in anyway... All I ask in return is if you can follow me on Instagram @kingashi_ekeleme. Hahahahh!!! Thx again!😂
+Avatar5414 I sooo will once my phone has been charging for an hour, THANK YOU , I LOVE YOU!!!!!! I was on the verge of tears when it keep doing that so really thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Avatar5414 Hey Man, I have had this problem before, this solution worked for a while but a few weeks later i had it replaced on warranty (Can't remember if this problem came up again or if it was something else). Now I had the same problem on the refurbished one I got, so my question is is it still working for you (or how long did it keep working), or else i will prepare for a proper cleanup, thanks
How is this even possible!?!?! I was hours away from sending it into LG for a $150 repair and came across this fix. It actually worked! Not sure if its permanent but I'm still happy for now. Thanks man.
Had the same issue. The problem is in the power button. It's not working correctly. What worked for me was I opened the phone and removed motherboard (not hard at all, there are tutorials on YT). Then I used cotton swab sprayed it with WD-40 (or similar liquid) and pressed a lot of times on the button and moist it all around. It seems the contact was reestablished. Phone now turns on normally. I wish i tried it before reading bunch of post saying tap the power button as fast as you can (works for some) or tap it real hard (because I broke plastic in process) or before I ordered new battery. :) Oh well, we all learn. Hope this helps. Greetings from Slovenia. ;)
Thank you for posting this! I've had my nexus for 2 years now and last night this happened! I'm so happy to have seen your video because now it works. I wonder how this happened to the phone in the first place?
laputachilz I’ve had my nexus 5x for 2 years also and this happened to me last night. When it finally turns on for around 15 minutes it shuts back off and on again. Let me know if this helped, because I am scared to try it.
It's Nov 2017, over three years since you posted this video. My phone was stuck in the boot loop. I did what you did in this video, and it actually worked. I researched forums and tech blogs to find a solution, yet this is the one that actually worked. I'm fucking amazed.
Half an hour of continuously tapping my phone over the knee and it finally got to work. Its weird but worked. That man is a life savior. Give that man a cookie.
This worked. Although i had to bang it on a table rather than press it with my finger and i had to it for about 10 minutes while all my apps (144 of them!) were optimized.
TheBangBangJT man i am trying it.It only works if i keep banging it on continuously (sounds wrong) but it almost shuts down before the final app optimizes..like i have 135 apps, the max i reached was 129 before it shut down again and i gave up
Asfand Niazi I'd say try again. I had to keep swapping hands! I had the same issue 3 more times over about 10 days (this trick sorted it every time) so in the end I got a replacement from Google.
TheBangBangJT I bang it on my bed a few time on the power button side and with the screen down. and it worked!!!!@[]@... and my phone just expired from warranty for 1 month-___,-
lightly tap the phone on a hard surface on the side with the power button and make sure to only tap the corner of the phone next to the power button (worked for me)
stops working as soon as I stop clicking power button. tapping the phone makes it turn on for 3 seconds then resets again. constantly tapping it it works until I stop tapping the phone. oh read on reddit. press the power button really hard instead of really fast. that worked. guess everyone phone is different.
austin mcgraw it happened a few times later. I guess my power button is breaking down. guess i should back up all my data and prepare for its demise. lasted me like 3 or 4 years not bad.
Unbelievable! This just brought my phone back to life. I have yet to be able to back it up or see if the battery really charges. But I booted up, and I couldn't do that before. Thanks man!
+Maggin Calderon Slamed it one time real good and my problem was over. I think the inside of the phone got a little messed up after I dropped it recently :$ Thanks for the slamming tip ;)
+Maggin Calderon I slammed mine on the ground because it was doing the same thing in the video, but I did out of anger tho and I might consider on just breaking my nexus since it keeps doing the same shit
this has only been happening since I got lollipop had the phone for 1 year before this !~ , f**lking annoying this has to be a software issue, no way can be hardware ...surely not ,
Your phone's Boot IC has been damaged. Get it replaced from a fix-it shop. Same thing happend to my Nexus 5. Got it replaced in Delhi (Gaffar Market Shop#123) for just 1600 rupees ($25)
Bhuvan Aggarwal r u sure man.. I went to the service center..they fcking told me to get the motherboard replaced...I want to kill them..can u give me the phone no of this gaffar market shop plz?
Yes. They also told me to replace the motherboard for 12500 rupees. But visit this shop. You can thank me later :) Phone number is 011-28722241, 011-25801190
Thanks, but this is a temporary fix, may work for a few days but the phone dies and it is gone, like mine. I am having the power button replaced to see if that fixes the problem for good. Seems to me that Nexus, LG should recall this phones and this issue fixed. My phone is a little over a year old and neither Google or LG honors the guarantee after one year, even if they know is a fabrication defect.
+Camilo Sanz Your battery is dying/dead....the phone is fine but the LG battery is notoriously bad after about a year to 14 months of use...just buy a replacement on Amazon and you should be good to go.
I'm not sure why this worked but it did. Thank you so much for posting this. My Nexus 5x broke the other day, so when my old N5 started bootlooping just now as well, I really freaked out (especially since I'm currently abroad). You really saved my day.
This solution actually helped.. saw posts on Google support, even called them , got call transferred to Lg. Still no help.. Finally this video did wonder. Thanks a lot.
how is this working for everyone it just messed up my power button and doesnt stop rebooting showing the optimzing adroid notification then when its done loading it goes back to the google logo does the same thing over and over again
nope still no solution at all, it still does the same thing and makes the phone really hot. How did you get you're phone to start behaving normal again? please reply asap i'm about ready to get a new phone cause this shit is frustrating! whats a gravity screen??
+Victor Almeida see there are two problems i found while looking for a solution to mine, A) a stuck power button or B) an over charged battery. This is the solution to the battery issue but there is another way of fixing a stuck power button.
I can't find it but it said to grab the ends of your power button with your fingernails or fingertips and wiggle it slightly, and then tap the phone on your palm and repeat 3-4 times. A lot of people said this simple thing worked so its worth a try
Men I really appreciate your video! the trick only depends on what part of the button you are pushing, in the center or a little bit on the edge, thank you again it Works!!!!
Thanks so much. I replaced the battery but this phone kept on restarting for hours. This workaround saved my Nexus 5 even though the battery was 90% loaded. You're the hero of the day !!!
I saw others discussion boards with complicated solutions and thought this simple steps wont do anything. Anyway, I thought of giving it a try and to my surprise, it worked. I am on Android Version 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). Thank you so much!!
Thanks alot mate. I did try everything from other blogs but nothing was working for me. I even tried disconnecting the battery. Your solution actually worked. thanks again.
Oh yeah, you saved me! Thank you so much for sharing this. I wasted all day watching and reading so much useless stuff when the only thing I needed to do is pulverize the button. Many thanks Boss! :)
YOU ARE THE REAL MVP!!! Thank you so much. I was so desperate!!! Thats my second nexus 5 already, and the first one had the same problem so I got a new one under warranty. But now it seems I dont have to do it anymore thanks to you!
thanks, had to buy a 6p a year ago when this happened to me. proves it's a software glitch not the power button. I had to let mine change an hour or so from dead, since during optomize apps it consumed more battery than it got via charging, and would die just from lack of power. took 5 minutes of clicking, but 15 years of starcraft broodwar prepared me for that lol! thanks again, really happy I found your video this time.
OMG thank you so much. I had to open up the back and disconnect and reconnect the battery connection. That, plus your method and my phone is back up. Thank you, again!
Dude, i can't thank you enough. I just had this (4 AM in Switzerland, the worst time for this knowing I have to wake up early tomorrow) and the only other response i got googlin' this issue was "you're motherboard is fucked you have to change it". Your trick worked and i'm safe for now.
I have not commented on a UA-cam video in maybe 8 years? You are my hero, 17 year old Avatar5414. I actually used your method in conjunction with ziljin's rubbing alcohol tip. I just took a rubbing alcohol wipe and started just wiping the power button very fast (cause my hands got tired from the quick tapping) and yay it worked! :) Also I did this for 5X for any one looking for a solution.
So I found out my old nexus 5 laying around in some boxes and decided to give a go on youtube, and so far your method is amazing, it did turn on and it's now charging. hopefully it'll work in no time. thank you.
I just wanted to take the time to tell you that I am so grateful for this video. Since can't afford a computer I finally have internet access. Now I can help pay for my family's ransom and save them from Isis. I am forever grateful.
Last year, my Nexus 5 started getting into this problem (bootloop) every 2-3 months or so, and I always come back to this video. So THANK YOU!. For anyone who does not have any success with this video, make sure your phone is being charged (it will not work unless it is being charged), and make sure to keep tapping that power button for a good 1-2 minutes after the phone powers on (I have found that if you stop tapping after it immediately powers on, it will go back to it's bootloop). I am sure this is a power button problem and is only a temporary fix, so if this method doesn't work for you, try getting the power button replaced, or if worst comes to worst, look at getting new phone. Good luck!
Guys this is not the fix for me, i just fixed it, just slam the phone on the table where the power on/off switch is. I dont mean you break it but just slam it. It workes perfectly for me now.
You da real mvp
Yeah!!! im loving my N5 again! I was nearly buying a new one hahaha
Thanks! Worked for me!
yesss!
its alive!!!
thanks man!
This guy saved many lives today. God bless you
This trick didn't work for me when I kept clicking the button, but I held the phone on its side and repeatedly banged it on the table so the entire long side including the power button repeatedly hit the table. +Geshtu OH my god. I put my nexus 5 on its side, hit it twice and it turned on !!!!!!!! You are a hero !
+Geshtu yes even this one worked for me.. seems there was an power button issue .. Thanks !!!
No worries. Mine is still working too!. Too bad I already ordered another Nexus 5 off ebay. Now I have a spare.
+Geshtu you saved my life, i just did that and it worked!!! thx so much!!!
thanks! this worked for me!
Thank you so much. My wife came home crying - you saved my night.
Did it work permanently? Is this a permanent fix?
This worked for my wife's Nexus 5. Thanks for the tip! It's crazy that this is happening to so many people...
I went to LG service center in Pune, And they were saying that Motherboard is not working properly And hence need to be replaced with ~9000 INR.
I took risk of trying by myself again, came across this video.

+Ryan Perry its probably the power button (like mine). i had a case that applied a very slight pressure to the power button which caused it to act up
Thank you so much for this! Was stuck in the bootloop the entire day, tried a lot of other fixes, nothing else worked.
Thx for watching & if this video helped you in anyway... All I ask in return is if you can follow me on Instagram @kingashi_ekeleme. Hahahahh!!! Thx again!😂

You just save me so much time, money, and headaches! Thank you man! You have a great day and I followed the channel

So we just need to replace the power button?
So we just replace power button
Plz reply
Works perfectly! I almost paid our local technician A LOT. Good thing I stumbled on your vidoe
2 mins later and a hand cramp, the solution was fixed. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for posting this! I've had my nexus for 2 years now and last night this happened! I'm so happy to have seen your video because now it works. I wonder how this happened to the phone in the first place?

Mine survived 7 years without any issues until this happened.
So many Nexus users have the same problem, should Google extends the warranty for this technical problem?
Yes you sure too my phone have same problem and I can't do anything 😡

TheBangBangJT How much did the replacement cost you ?
Joseph Voltaire Nothing. I'd originally bought the phone from Google and it was still covered under warranty.
TheBangBangJT I bang it on my bed a few time on the power button side and with the screen down. and it worked!!!!@[]@... and my phone just expired from warranty for 1 month-___,-
lightly tap the phone on a hard surface on the side with the power button and make sure to only tap the corner of the phone next to the power button (worked for me)
just tried it and it worked like immediately!!!
+Anthony Driftking 😎cool
stops working as soon as I stop clicking power button. tapping the phone makes it turn on for 3 seconds then resets again. constantly tapping it it works until I stop tapping the phone. oh read on reddit. press the power button really hard instead of really fast. that worked. guess everyone phone is different.
ziljin you have to apply some force but not too much to break the phone
austin mcgraw it happened a few times later.
Thanks man!
Oh my God, my phone is working again and i didnt even plug it into the charger
God bless you mate, you saved me a lot of money
Thank you a ton you saved me.
Lollipop has destroyed my N5 battery and it gets warm too, it was definitely not ready for release.
Worked for me, best fix I've seen for a long time (and I've needed many, for various devices, over the years), well done and thanks for sharing.
Thanks man, you just saved my N5.
My phone died this morning and i thought it was a battery problem but now is working perfectly.
Once again thanks.
Damn! this shit works even in 2016, though it was really temporary
2018! and i really hope its not temporary lol...
Can anybody explain why this works lol? This is the trippiest shit i've ever seen
Worked! I can't believe it! Must have over charged my battery. Coming from an 18 year old, THANK YOU
This does work - second time I have used this "method" in the last couple of years!
My bro fixed it by slamming on the ground
+Maggin Calderon Slamming fixed it for me too. Three times is a good measure.
+Maggin Calderon Slamed it one time real good and my problem was over. I think the inside of the phone got a little messed up after I dropped it recently :$
Thanks for the slamming tip ;)
+Maggin Calderon I slammed mine on the ground because it was doing the same thing in the video, but I did out of anger tho and I might consider on just breaking my nexus since it keeps doing the same shit
+Maggin Calderon Coincidentally, that's probably also what caused the problem :)
Adam Heinermann I'm sorry but that was funny, I quite laughed at you
anybody knows how to fix it permanently
Thanks a ton for this video. This method did not work a couple of times at first yet i still kept on trying. Finally worked on the 5th attempt.
Bro u just saved me from shedding money on this.... Thanx Alotttttttt :)
this has only been happening since I got lollipop had the phone for 1 year before this !~ , f**lking annoying
this has to be a software issue, no way can be hardware ...surely not ,
im facing same problem since lollipop
yeah mines only been since lollipop also, people are saying using a large magnet to seperate the two metal peices worked, but idn havnt tried it yet
+Camilo Sanz is the replacement of power button works or not?
works temporarily according to what other people post, I have not replaced mine yet
+Camilo Sanz Your battery is dying/dead....the phone is fine but the LG battery is notoriously bad after about a year to 14 months of use...just buy a replacement on Amazon and you should be good to go.
Will a battery replacement do the trick?
Thank you! It worked! I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in. No go. But your solution worked perfectly! Thanks again.
I'm not sure why this worked but it did. Thank you so much for posting this. My Nexus 5x broke the other day, so when my old N5 started bootlooping just now as well, I really freaked out (especially since I'm currently abroad). You really saved my day.
OMG!.. its fuckin work! Thankyou!
IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS!
Thanks a fucking lot, bro!
It works on mine too braw \m/
This solution actually helped.. saw posts on Google support, even called them , got call transferred to Lg. Still no help.. Finally this video did wonder. Thanks a lot.
This video was a Saviour for me! Thank you!!!
how is this working for everyone it just messed up my power button and doesnt stop rebooting showing the optimzing adroid notification then when its done loading it goes back to the google logo does the same thing over and over again
Rodolfo Bonilla me too :(! and my phone very very hot too !!!
Anshuman Rajwansh i going through the same prob ,,, any soltution ?
nope still no solution at all, it still does the same thing and makes the phone really hot. How did you get you're phone to start behaving normal again? please reply asap i'm about ready to get a new phone cause this shit is frustrating! whats a gravity screen??

Anshuman Rajwansh ok thank you so much ill try that hopefully it works for mexc
It seems to work, but I can't get it to a stable state =[ it just turns off whenever I stop pressing.. can someone help me?
+Victor Almeida I have the same problem!
+Victor Almeida see there are two problems i found while looking for a solution to mine, A) a stuck power button or B) an over charged battery. This is the solution to the battery issue but there is another way of fixing a stuck power button.
+BoondoxJuggalo44 Then I probably have a stuck power button =T did you find an easy fix for it?
well idk if it works but I looked up a video for it . didn't work for me but it might work for you. lemme try to find it again
You just saved me my phone! I am indebted! I cant seem to thank you enough for this!
Thank you! I faced this problem this morning. I didn't even have to keep tapping once it started booting up. Thanks again!
My error was different to yours but I tried it anyway...and it worked. Genius you are.
Thanks for the solution! Still working two years later :D
Thank you so much Avatar5414 all the way from Egypt, really you saved me.. you have world wide fans now.., Thanks again bro.. I did like and subscribe
God Bless you!!!! it works!!!
Thanks so much. I replaced the battery but this phone kept on restarting for hours. This workaround saved my Nexus 5 even though the battery was 90% loaded. You're the hero of the day !!!

Oh man.. I was really, like REALLY scared. Thanks a lot, this worked perfectly for me
This has worked so far for my Nexus 5x. Thanks so much
Thank you very much for posting this up. The same thing happened and I was able to get my phone up and working. Thank you very much, once again!!
Thank you, you honestly just saved my life.

You sir, just saved my 6year old Nexus 5 that i loved so much!
Dude, you just saved me hundreds of dollars. You're friggin' awesome.
BOIII UR A FRICKIN LIFE SAVER THX MANN
thanks, had to buy a 6p a year ago when this happened to me. proves it's a software glitch not the power button. I litterally love you man.
You fixed my phone!!!! Thank you! Your video was not only hilarious, but it worked! Couldn't believe it :D
OMG thank you so much. I had to open up the back and disconnect and reconnect the battery connection. That, plus your method and my phone is back up. Thank you, again!
Your an inspiration to our generation Sir.
Thanks, after 5 gentle slams (where the power on/off switch is) it finally worked.
Thanks man. you are a life savior.
Thanks for posting this! This video just saved me. Thank you!!!
It is unbelievable!! This solution is working 100%. No need to go to any service station. It gets fixed in flat 2 mins, sitting in house!
omggggg THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I was stressing superhard... thought I had to buy a new phone... But this trick fixed it!!
THANKS FOR THIS!
this just happened earlier and i thought i would lose my phone..
Thank you so much u helped me fixed my dad's phone
So I found out my old nexus 5 laying around in some boxes and decided to give a go on youtube, and so far your method is amazing, it did turn on and it's now charging. hopefully it'll work in no time. thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! You saved my phone!!! For awhile, I thought my phone was permanently dead!
Yep. This worked. Rare to find a straight up simple solution without having to go to plan b or plan c.
I just wanted to take the time to tell you that I am so grateful for this video. Since can't afford a computer I finally have internet access. Now I can help pay for my family's ransom and save them from Isis. I am forever grateful.
Thank you! I really thought i needed to repair my nexus. So glad i didn't had to!
I had same problem with NEXUS 4.
I ordered a new battery online for $10 and now it's works !!!
Good luck!
Are you Canadian by any chance?
H.A.L. Yes! Why? 😁
It was a wild guess my guy

This worked for me! Thanks! Once you get it up and running I would recommend backing everything up and doing a factory reset
At first I tried but it didn't work for me.... After multiple attempts, it did work. Thank you so much.
