Who else comes back to this time and time again just to have shivers run down their spine at the sheer perfection of it all????
I just did
Me
Shiver me timbers.
Been here a lot... can't believe it's been 5 years already
Me - again and again!
You can’t improve on a perfect song - but you can make a perfect cover, and this is a lateral move from perfection to perfection
Beautiful comment.
Well said!
Couldn’t have said it better myself…
I like this cover better then the original it’s faster and sounds better then the original imo
I thought I was commenting on snoop John b but I like this one as much as the original 😊
This is one of the best Simon and Garfunkel covers that I have ever heard. Amazing job.
Sentinel488 arguably?
Damn right
As far as solo covers go, Josh's is the best IMO. However there is a group cover which is my absolute favorite overall...ua-cam.com/video/l2tkeeRGBj8/v-deo.html
No doubt.
I couldn’t agree with you more. Unbelievable!!
Here he goes again, making everyone's day better with his incredible talent, voice and focus. God bless you, Josh.
Your Paul Simon covers are spectacular. Also, my engagement photos were taken in that same tunnel. Also, this song was on our wedding cocktail hour playlist...
His Paul Simon covers are spot on really his talent is spectacular
I don't suppose 'engagement' refers to a relationship. silly me!
Yes, the vocal timbre, the phrasing, pitch, all of it is creepily like Paul Simon's voice. I hope Paul gets to hear Josh sing & play. It's really uncanny.
The Universe is turning in circles.
Wow! Really? You must be feeling even better among us watching and listening
As far as covers go, doesn't get much better than this.
Paul and Art from the same throat. Perfect 12-string. Sheesh!
I was thinking the exact same thing! 👍
Jeff Hale Right? Thought the same, and yet unmistakably Josh.
Throat? Freakin poet much?
If AG could join Josh and add the harmonies, this would be more of a killer than it already is. Well done Josh!
What an amazing cover. Sounded like Paul and Art and a full band, and it’s just one guy with a guitar. That was mindblowingly brilliant. I’m out of adjectives
I hope Paul Simon sees this, and says, 'that's nice, man' (anything in that vein will do)
Great acoustics. Great job.
I think he will be mesmerized!!!
I showed it to him. He liked it but said he missed the harmonies.
@@bossHogOG I'm not easily impressed, but, that is quite impressive. Through the power of UA-cam and song I have made a literal connection to Paul Simon, I almost know the guy. The next time you see him tell him I'm sorry it didn't work out with Carry Fisher, and that he's one of the people whose words and music I admire most, one of our greatest writers. And tell him not to cut his hair so short, or shorter, I don't mind, both are good.
@Ken Fullman Paul Simon is a Giver, and a Genius, not an assole, so we should be ok.
@Ken Fullman ? whatever. Not your concern is it... although you do seem concerned Ken.
This might be the best cover I’ve seen on UA-cam. Ever.
Agree!
Si
Dude, you’ve said that on several videos now...please....GO AWAY
@@Oh_I_Will I have? 😂 (not going away sorry)
Damn right!
Is there anything better than Josh playing Paul Simon?
ilovemypiano -- No.
Paul Simon and Josh playing together?
Paul Simon playing Paul Simon
Josh and First Aid Kit playing Paul Simon
No, but Josh playing Dylan with Carson is close, as is Josh playing James Taylor
Great performance, vocally and instrumentally. Many UA-cam viewers may not be aware of the background of this song. "Tom, get your plane right on time
. I know your part’ll go fine. Fly down to Mexico". Who is Tom, and why is he flying down to Mexico? Simon and Garfunkle were known initially as ""Tom and Jerry" after the cartoon characters (a tall cat and a small mouse). After achieving success, Art Garfunkle (Tom) got a part in the movie "Catch-22" which was being filmed in Mexico. Paul Simon's part was cut out of the script. Paul wrote the song, and remained behind in New York, for a very long time. And within a year, the group broke up.
For extra credit, "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" eventually featured the "Farkel Family", which included twins named Simon and Gar Farkel.
Paul Simon wrote All the songs words and music. Art is on video saying he just cannot write a song... Didn't matter... No one could write and sing songs like Paul Simon anyway... :)
Garfunkel...
i know you have a pretty strict "no requests" rule so i never bother to ask, but the angels came down from the firmament and gave me this S&G cover. thank god, they're just people, too.
I see what you did here.
Comment of the year candidate.
😆 lol
I'm so impressed by this. My dad (may he forever rest in peace) bought me the Bridge Over Troubled Water album back in 1970, shortly after it's release. That album immediately held deep meaning for me upon first listening, and it still does to this day. I have always loved this song, and have shared that love with MANY people over the years. There was a certain kind of sincerity we used to hear in singers back then, that I just don't hear very often in singers nowadays (maybe it's all that horrible pitch correction software they're using now, which, in my opinion, is a crime against music). Well, you've got the old magic in your voice, and your guitar playing is flawless. Listening to this, I got the same chills the original recording has always given me! Josh, you would have been huge in the late 60s/early 70s, that's for sure. It does my heart good to see and hear a young person performing this music of my youth, nailing it in every way. Bravo.
Man, this comment just almost made me feel as good as the song did. You've put my feelings just perfectly into words.
That pitch correction crap is... well - CRAP. Singing without it is the difference between a true singing talent and the other stuff.
That slight echo sounds amazing!
I don’t know how much he amplified it in post production but he was using it to amazing effect to get the choral voices, it was amazing.
Natural tunnel reverb
He mentioned in his notes below the video that he didnt add any extra reverb, it was the natural accustics from the tunnel.. wow what a fantastic sound he captured.
Wasnt original recorded in cathedral?
There’s something that’s always cathartic about the chord progression of the Ahs before the “here I am..” my favorite parts 💛
Many people don't know how good this is...just spot on Paul Simon!
And art garfunkel.....
Holy smokes. Ridiculously good man.
6 strings for Paul and 6 for Art.
I love that sentiment.
One person, one guitar, one beautiful song.
Fantastic rendition. Also, congrats!
Thanks Sammy!
i love your songs.
@@JoshTurnerGuitar who is the Lucky Lady ? everyone wants to know Josh. btw so very pleased we found you guys , your the new sound track to our life.
Wow! The music of my youth being sung by yet another generation! Love it!
Yea, I'm and X-er and this guy is a millennial. I wish his cohort was listening to him. It would be epic if there was a resurgence.
Heck of a job, young man...you are skilled beyond your years...
This is as perfect a cover as will ever exist.
I'm a huge Paul Simon fan, now a fan of this guy. Subscribed.
Again, how can anyone give this a thumbs down. He is very talented in every way. Fine young man who still cares about our music.
I have chills. Josh, I have not heard of you until this moment. The best cover I have ever heard of one of my favorite songs. I hope Paul Simon sees it someday, or has seen it.
I bet in the last two years you have been down the Other Favorites rabbit hole as I have. Incredible talent!
I envy you for all the videos you will enjoy for the first time. You'll also discover several other young artists.
Found myself choking up a little at the end there. Beautiful, man.
Can always count on those beautiful nyc tunnels to provide the best acoustics
You have the best Paul Simon covers on UA-cam. You really can capture the emotion that Simon and Garfunkel put into their music
Unbelievable ... I grew up listening to this and it’s one of my favorite S&G songs.. this cover is spectacular.. This man is truly gifted.
This is nothing short of devastating. In a good way. A friend just passed suddenly from a massive stroke and I have been buried in reflexion of how fleeting life is. Was just yesterday I fell in love with S&G’s unique sound and lyrics. Fifty years ago...
Thank you for the 12 string magic. Great vocals. Glad I'm subscribed.
Yes indeed, especially since I've never even seen a 12 fret, slotted headstock 12 string. Sounds great though!
Minnesota Acoustic Yamaha made a slotted 12 string headstock back in the day. Obviously no comparison to the Martin, but a great guitar.
@@brokenacoustic He said it was a 1969 Martin D-12-35 guitar...
Who needs tv when you Josh and your friends are on the tube ,thanks for all the music you play ,very easy listening 👏👏👏👏👏👍
Such an amazing song played on an amazing guitar by an amazing guitarist and singer
God I love this guy.
I love that you can hear the cicadas in the background of the recording. I grew up in the tri state area and the cicadas were part the soundtrack of my childhood. Brings me back to the endless summers of youth... thanks J. T. Great stuff!
Great version of one of the best songs ever written.
I come back to this video every few days. Stunning.
Madeleine Hickman Completely understand, I do that with half of his uploads.
Me too, Madeleine Hickman !!! This version is so, so, perfect !!!
Look at all the detail in the stone masonry of that tunnel. This was the work of a proud people who built beautiful things meant to last.
Just..wow
I thought you might do this one with Carson, Reina & Toni, but this solo version was just outstanding. Very moving.
Brilliant. I'm 67 and have loved this song for many years. You've inspired me. I'm going to learn it. Thank you.
Beautifully done Josh. Its amazing to see how much youve grown as a musician since your Sultans of Swing cover. Its been great to watch your Journey.
Metal Otaku Banzai agree! It’s been a great thing to watch!
And that cover is still amazing years later too! Hah
The cicadas added to an amazing rendition of the song.
Just got the notification - as usual, not surprised that we have a quality video from the best channel on here. 12 string playing was just superb - you really have come on a lot since I first viewed Cannonball Rag on your Fender about ten years ago. I have viewed every video since that day, but this one really does have something very special going for it. Regards from one of your earliest subscribers in the UK.
It's hard to stop listening to this gorgeous recording - on (what I'm pretty sure is ) a Martin D-12-20. Josh is a monster talent, choosing some of the greatest material. Thanks, my friend!
All ways considered a amazing guitarist. But is obvious you are an amazing vocalist. This video is a great example of your wonderful range. Thanks again for making my day.
Thank you so very much for covering all these Simon and Garfunkel songs. They were the sound track growing up. And now you are the soundtrack all these years later. I’ve just been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and listening to you play and sing fills my soul with happiness joy and love. These songs mean the world to me and you do them so wonderfully with honor and integrity. I wish you all the best success as s mucican
Create Love Happy May you be carried safely through this journey.
Josh, stunningly beautiful... this is an example of taking a great song and propelling it to even greater heights, well done mate! Ps the
Thanks Josh. Just for existing. You make the world better.
Obviously Paul Simon is an absolutely incredible artist and his work is beyond any doubt... but I have to say, your cover is spectacular and will be added to my playlist. The Chorus in your version absolutely tears my heart out in the most positive way!
Josh, that was sooo wonderful. I am listening to this over and over on my father’s birthday who has passed 10 years ago. I was little when he would play this LP constantly, and in many ways, it’s how I remember him thru music. I can’t tell you how impactful and meaningful your renditions of Kathy’s song and The only living boy in New York are to me. Thank you for making these memories so vivid and beautiful for me when remembering my Dad. Your tunnel sound effects are amazing and make this version other worldly. Thank you for the inspiration that you give people
Great! Your vocal range is impressive, and the acoustics contributed by the location are extraordinary.
this is literally the most impeccable cover of this song out there
This is, by far, my favourite video on UA-cam.
This gave me chills. Love it.
You are the king of covers. Period.
Just wonderful. Absolutely brilliant performance. I came to UA-cam to see if I could find a good live version with Art & Garfunkel, but when you and/or your friends are in the thumbnail I just have to click because of all the wonderful music you put online. I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye after the first verse and at the end I was crying like a baby. What a wonderful performance! Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Amazing....... Absolutely amazing..... Can't believe I'm going to hear this guy live in Liverpool..... Yes.... Liverpool..... Home of the Beatles....
I bet that was a grand show.
@@Tropicalpisces It certainly was..... the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall..... great experience....
LadyWatchingBird Oh yeah! It really was... My wife hadn’t heard him before and she was ‘blown away’... He’s an extraordinary talent.. if you get the chance to hear him live you must take it! Best wishes
Wow... You bring me back to my early years....I am 65 and grew up in Brooklyn, not too far from Prospect Park. Simon and Garfunkel were a part of my teenage experience.
You are very talented and show a real understanding of this song. Best wishes...
Dude you've been killing it. Pink Moon and then this? Excellent!
One of my all time fav tunes. Great job.
The acoustics gave this song magic. If there was a Nobel prize for microphone placement I would nominate you for it. Spot on!
True
Couldn't agree more! You could never recreate this set up ever again. Quality all day long 👌
I bought this microphone because of this video.
My thoughts
Love that it's all natural reverb, great job.
sorry Paul...he just blew your song away.
This young man is so so very brilliant and talented.
And his friends? Love when they all let the music out!!!!
Thanks again so much!
Big fan Josh! ❤️
I think the cicadas deserve some credit for the background vocals.
This is just mesmerisingly beautiful
You gave this song what it deserves. Pure and superb, I got my eyes and ears on you!
I'm constantly blown away by your talent. Thanks for posting.
Simply breathtaking. I never get tired of this. You give me light, peace and joy. Thank you.
One of my favorite Paul Simon songs. The "new" twelve-string sounds terrific. Well done! ❤️
Josh Turner this is by far the best cover of this song
BLESSINGS TO YOU.
I've listened to most covers of this song and I must say this is the best of them all. You sang it excellently
Your voice imitates his nuances so well, really impressed with this one!
I am always amazed that Josh doesn't have several million subscribers on YT. It's a shame, really. The man is so talented, as are the people he allows to join him
I don't know how this became on of my favorite S&G songs, especially because they have so many I love, but it has ... Amazing cover! Thank you for sharing.
Genre defying, Joshua seems perfectly comfortable with any style. A great cover, thank you.
Beautiful voice and a great rendition of a classic song
Plays guitar like Simon, sings like Garfunkel. Excellent!
Well, I like that he sounds like Paul Simon because Paul Simon recorded this song.
I keep coming back to this. Amazing cover.
I never noticed any people in the background! I loved your choice of location. It suited your choice of song very well giving it that airy S&G sound and was beautiful to look at. Looking forward to seeing you in Leeds and can't miss the Gracelands gig!
Just beautiful, Josh Turner !!! You play and sing just perfect ! And I know you do this so well because You Love Music.. I can tell by watching you just playing the guitar...
Thank you for all the hard work that went into all of this years ago and is still going strong!
It is 2 years hence since you went on tour, - I will eventually hope to find those videos and see how that went.. Am sure it was fabulous for all !
Thanks again, thanks to all those who help and support you and your work !
God Bless to all !
Fran Danco
I must have watched this video dozens of time, but the beauty of it never cease to amaze me. It is truly a wonderful rendition, thank you for that.
Josh, all your pure Brilliance, across 12 strings, align with every star, and in every galaxy with your interpretation of this song... Timeless! Cheers
I just love your videos Josh...your voice amazes me, but it also soothes my soul. Please keep on letting your voice fill our world with harmony.
Beautifully done, the performance, the acoustics and even the photography, wonderful.
A top-notch cover of one of my favorite S&G songs. Well done, be proud.
Simply lovely. Thank you.
Just beautiful. Gorgeous cover of a truly underrated song.
This is absolutely stunning. Well played brother
Stunning is quite a precise, well-chosen adjective here
Beautiful. I love the sound of the 12-string. Hey, even the locusts liked it.
This is the template for doing a Paul Simon song justice. You are an absolute legend Mr. Turner.
This Josh chap is wonderful... I can't get enough of his music. And his pals as well - are all Americans this talented?!! You guys playing such beautiful music with such big smiles on your faces is everything that's good about the world. Much love from Dover, UK
It's nice when the pipes are young and strong. Thank you for a great time! Enjoyed the visit.
This was Golden!! You, sir, are phenomenal! I liked this better than the original. 😲💖
Simon & Garfunkle.. Was rockin' in cot to this sweet melody. Nice cover. x
I always feel that saying this is a backhanded compliment, but, as a vocalist, you just keep getting better and better. This is outstanding!
Sublime.
Lucky dudes in the UK. I reckon that gig will blow their socks off. This piece is sublime Josh and so are you.
I'm so gutted that I couldnt make the gig as it was so close to my house! I'm sure binging the videos on UA-cam will supplement it!
That gig (I went to London to see them) was beyond wonderful. This song closed the first set. I nearly wept.
Can't believe it. I didn't know this song. Lovely cover. I've had it on repeat for a couple of days and have explored Paul Simon's live performances as well. What a gem.
