Was doing an alternator belt for a family member today on his 2000 model hiace & thought to myself "there's no way they've designed it so you have to remove the powersteering pump".. needless to say they did design it like that! You're right, bloody shit job mate. You definetely made my job a bit easier. Keep it up mate.
Best video. Doing same on my 1996 hiace and this helped me accept I need to take all that stuff on top out 😢 not doing belt tho already did with water pump 50,000 Kms ago its fine 😂
Did my 2000 Hiace alternator yesterday. Took me 11 hours but was worth it to avoid whatever the labour cost would have been. Your video saved me hundreds of dollars so thankyou very much for making it. ❤
Excellent video. We have been able to get our alternator out thanks to this video. Still got to get power steering pump and some carbie lines to get the shit belt off. Thanks Simon, would not be doing this if I hadn't seen your video.
If you are only replacing or fitting a new alternator belt, you can undo the bottom alternator bracket bolt from under the the vehicle. It has a spacer you can remove to fit a new belt. No need to remove the alternator and all the other stuff.
@silowe1 so waas it as easyy as climb underneath and unbolt the alternator bolt then be able to fit the belt, i ned to replace the belts on mine, looks like a bit of effort,
Thank you! This really helped me replace my alternator on my 98 Hiace. Is the thermostat behind that housing? I only had to take the pipe off but now I'm trying to figure out my radiator fault light.
U can get some more access to the lower brackets and bolts by removing the rubbers above the suspension in the front guards behind the wheels. Had hoist to change water pump n belts. Much swearing. Mechanics gloves will save u some skin if big hands.
@@TheDingdong78 It seems very odd design to have to take power steering bracket off for a belt change right. I will be doing my water pump so will suss it out and let you know, might save you time next one you do.
@@TheDingdong78 haha yeah there is no room to work in there and like you, i have to do on the side of the road type thing. I only drive one side up onto blocks of wood, very squeezy 😄
Ok i finally got around to changing alternator belt. I used the spacer at the bottom of the power steering bracket. It was fairly easy to get out but quite tricky to get back in. Have to contort your wrist and use a bar to squeeze it back in.
@@TheDingdong78 mate all good using your video and a lot of swear words I got the job done today, great video 10/10 and yes I agree with you that was a pretty shit job! Thank you

Nice work.

Apparently there is a bolt underneath that lets u get the last belt off without touching the power steering at all.
If I know will be easy .I can not see cause too dark
