@@hamishmcmanus2027 This isn't really the case with alternators. These things are highly recycled. Half the time all I can find for older cars are remans, which is fine since I've not had a problem with a reman alternator anyways.

Interesting and informative. Been a mechanic for almost 30 years now and never rebuilt an alternator. Used ones go for $35 to $75 and remans generally $130 - $200 so it doesn't pay to fix them with parts and labor. I am sure there are specialty exotics that It would pay to do this for myself. However, I have never had one I couldn't get for a reasonable price. If it paid to rebuild them I would do it for a living, and you would be my reference material publisher 😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent, cut to the chase, sped up to eliminate time, answered in a short well narrated video. Takes the fear out of diagnosis and repair. Boldest confidance for darn sure. thank you.
Thanks for including us females too! Yes there are some of us out there that are into repairing our own vehicles! And thanks for the info! I’m about to remove my alternator now! Watching this video literally gave me all the information I needed
Same here girl ! I had to replace my alternator along with the VTEC solenoid, drive belt , hydraulic (total pain in the ass) tensioner pulley for my drive belt… but it’s done and running . I kept my old alternator because I think probably just needs to be cleaned and possibly change the bushings and I have no doubt i can repair it . why would I trade it in to get a $30 core charge back when it’ll be worth $200+ fixed? I love mechanics though and I wish I knew more than I did but I pretty much told myself everything I know and I’ve successfully done everything on one vehicle or another including timing belt And repaired my fuel pump in one vehicle. about the only thing I haven’t done is replace the entire engine, transmission , nothing involving head gaskets or anything with the suspension. Happy mechanic and do you!
I watched so many videos, like this one, where they all talk about the problems that are not shown on camera. I spent 3 hours getting it off, but not even out of my truck. It would be nice if the next guy that has to replace one, who has done it once before, film all the really difficult stuff if not given a heads up. The power steering bolts are not too bad to get to if you know exactly where they are. I put the socket on first, then the ratchet. There are only 2 of the screws needed around 11 and 3 o'clock position. On one of the other videos, it showed the 2nd bolt. To be honest, its around the 3 or 4 o'clock and you can hardly see any part of it...but you can find it easy with the socket. He talks about it, but one other video actually shows it being done. Next, it is much easier to pull it out from the side like he did, but only if you take out the bolt that the alternator hangs on. Its an E socket 10mm. It is so long that it gets in the way when you try and wiggle it out. Once its out, you can get it out with very mild wiggling. Lastly (I should have gone in order), but even though the 2 top bolts are hidden, one of the 2 bottom bolts are a pain in the ass if you you don't get the tips.....First one is not so bad, you may be able to break it open with a wrench or ratchet. The other one is what he described. You have to get a 14mm combination for the back....i used a pry bar under the engine for leverage as they are on super tight. The screw is long and it cant come straight out because of the bracket in the way. It is the bracket to has some hydraulic lines attached to it on the alternator. You can move the lines mostly out of the way. I haven't even started putting it back together yet.....waiting on the alternator to come in. Other recommendation I would make is not to order the alternator until you can get eyes on it. There you can get the oem part number because my truck shows 3 different ones with my vin number....the stores always asking about dvd and tow package. I don't have a rear dvd package and I didn't see the tow package on my dealer sticker....but I had a 150a alternator. I ordered it after I could see the part number... I understand why you don't see some of these pointers, so no fault of his own cuz he's grinding trying to figure it put and when does, its too late and he is not going to backwards to show what he just did. I hope all of the learning pains result in a fairly straight forward assembly. We'll see...but of anyone who has seen this video ever has to do one of these again, please show how you take out each bolt and the tools used. It will save the next guy a lot of trouble and headache. At my man spoke bout some of his issues so I was made aware of the problem, but must say this was a bear without being able to visualize the headaches it brings.....Agree with many, I have removed many alternators for a shade tree guy and this was the absolute worst.
Thanks Chris I was smelling burning plastic While driving then my battery light came on. You were the only one in all my research who mentioned this fact and that part of the alternator can be purchased for less. You’re great at what you do And a true gentleman . Bless you Chris!
Just ordered a brand new alternator for my F150. But I think I'll keep the old one and try this rebuild. It might come in handy if/when this new one ever goes out
Good idea. I ordered a replacement alternator but afterwards saw this video and decided to repair my old one with new brushes and new voltage regulator. Cost me $24.00 and the shipping was free. Took a couple minutes to replace the regulator and brushes and now I have a spare alternator for when the new one goes bad. Christopher did a great job on this vid, no?
Pretty funny, I decided to take my mother's alternator apart (after replacing it with another good one) and it has the same problem as your one here. Normally I don't get that lucky finding a video with the same issue. Thanks for the video, you know what you're talking about which is really nice.
Thanks! This was the most informative alternator video I've seen. I pulled the alternator out of my motorhome today, and I'll be taking it to my shop teacher to have him help me out with this as well.
Thank you so much I just replaced my alternator myself, I didn't even think of repairing the old one I gave it in for a core. I think the problem inside mine was the clutch from the loud squeal I smell I was experiencing. "subscribing"!

Looks pretty hard to take apart though.... But dollars are in short supply, so This has helped greatly!💡💚👍😃
It's always a good idea to rebuild OEM alternators. Usually an easy job. New aftermarket ones (or worse re-manufactured) are usually never on par with the quality standards compared to OEM. Especially if you own a Japanese/German car.
Excellent excellent video Chris. I wanted to check that I had done my alternator rebuild correctly. The only bits I didn't properly check were the resistances with my meter. Unfortunately it's now back in the car. My only feedback is that the video was a wee bit blury when you were showing where the solder was meant to be. That was all. Again, Excellent video.
I always like mechanics astute enough to actually find the problem and fix it instead of just replacing the entire part. I notice they do this in Mexico, but not in the USA - often, you may be better off with the original part instead of another one that could have other issues.
Thanks for that. My father (both of us from Mexico, and he was an automotive and truck mechanic there) used to say that most car repairs done in this country are done by people who just change parts, but know very little about how things are made and how to really diagnose and correct problems in a car.
@@lorenzoparedes2306 Yes, Lorenzo, absolutely!!!! They swap out the Alternator or a rebuilt one here, but in Mexico they go inside the Alternator and rebuild it usually replacing the brushes that wear out first. AND in Mex. they'll work on Sunday if you need help, so you can return and be back to work on Monday!!! Same situation with Automatic Transmissions - in the USA they swap it out for one they rebuilt and no one knows if it's been well cared for or not. In Mex., they replace the high gear plates that get the most wear and put in new plates (or disks). I feel more comfortable in Mex. because I return with the same transmission that's in good shape except for the worn out disks. You pay maybe $3-4,000 in the USA and maybe $650 in Mexico for the exact same end result of having a working car again.
Great video video Chris. I am a lady and I cannot afford for mechanic to replace my alternator with a new one. I am off to play under bonnet now with my new knowledge. Thanks so much!

@@christopher_barr Recently, my Buick 98 LeSabre Custom's alternator failed. Rather than face a steep unit replacement cost, I followed one of the links to Amazon you provided in your video. Unfortunately, nothing Amazon offered matched my specific needs for rebuilding the alternator. Can you suggest a link to a rebuild kit for the alternator unit, or at least, the voltage regulator?
if you mean video quality of everything in the distance then correct but the camera was unfocused on the actual alternator wires and brushes explanation part
Sharp pointed center punch and a light hand with a small hammer can make the best reassembly guide marks you need for a small component like an alternator. Front DE Hsg=1 punch mark, stator=1 punch mark in line with the hsg mark. 2 marks on the other end of the stator aligned to 2 marks on the next housing, and so on for each additional removable part works for almost any disassembly. 8:49-Slot u-wedges appear to have deformed from excessive heat. Wound stator units are dipped in varnish (usually) and baked at minimum of 350 Deg F for 3 to 5 hours. Even that heat does not deform slot wedges.
Hi Chris! Very good info and camera work made it easy to understand. The pricing on Alternators today is crazy high. I will chose to rebuild mine now. Just not that good with the multi-meter part yet, but learning. Thanks for sharing! Cheers from Motown.
EXCELLENT informative instructional video!! Thanx for not garbling and/or drowning out your narrative audio with some cheesy background "music" as soooo many guys make the mistake of doing. WELL DONE Mate!!
Hey Chris😃 really grateful for your advice and tutorial, I have got the alternator apart in all the bits you were showing and I noticed the clutch wasn't slipping one way as you demonstrated, it didn't slip either way... The brushes are fairly long still so now I may have to take the disassembled thingy to the auto lecky for the final verdict on what is wrong with it... And cost for a new part etc.... Thanks again from Australia👍😃🍀
This is by far the best video on the tube on how to test it outside f the car but I wished you had shown us how to test it properly with the battery @2:15
All these other guys just said it will show you the rebuild the alternator but they just pull it took it apart and put together they never showed me anyting this was great why you were doing that you said with the parts where and everything as you were going along thank God thank you
I used to work in a shop many years ago where we rebuilt alternators for Ford. Most of the time it was bad diods or a burned up stator. Another department went over the rotors but sometimes those would be bad too. We would tear down a couple hundred a time, clean them up and check all the parts before reassembly. All of ours got new brushed and bearings. GMs had a diode trio that would often fail.
I just bought one from Walmart I don't know if I should have. A brand from Db Electrical but it was only $65. I don't think that it would have Bosch quality. I might be taking a chance on this. But couldn't beat the price.

Great video man. Much more detailed then most I've seen, between you and Eric the car guy no one can compare. Thanks for the video iv always wanted to see an actual video of a rebuild of an alternater.
Thanks for This Use full Info .. Much Appreciated. please do one more video about Dievots ( Electrical Chip ) inside the Alternator. and please do elaborate how to test it .
Wish I had seen this video 6 months ago. I could have saved the money I paid for a "rebuilt" alternator. I have my original OEM in my garage and that's going to be my first project when I get home. Thanks for the great video!
I purchased a battery 11-24-2019, and I had my alternator replaced, with a rebuilt one on my 2006 Ford five hundred on 10-13-2017 and a new battery. My car is showing the same symptoms again today, I think it's the alternator again. I've already replaced the alternator twice previously, over the last 10 years. I bought the car new. I wonder if I should just break down and buy an oem from a Ford dealer. It will probably cost twice what a rebuilt alternator ($209.92), but in the long run may be best. Thank you, John
Very good video and explanations, mate! Appreciate the tips! Thanks to you I now have a spare alternator I refurbished myself with new brushes and voltage regulator for $24.00. Subscribing!
I love videos like this I stupidly left my rav4 into Toyota to get a new throttle body sensor fitted they charged me €300 euros for the sensor I coulda got it online for $25 dollars and they charged me €300 euros to fit it my own mechanic woulda charged me €45 the job was that easy I coulda done it myself!! very well informed video!
Me to! I had a failed alternator recently and $80 at the junk yard and about 15 minutes to swap it over had me back on the road with no issues. I am all for fixing things too, but for some reason (for me) electrickery has just never been worth messing with because I don't know enough about it to know where to set my multi-meter or what tests to perform etc. A Lot of these vids presume some sort of electrickery knowledge back ground, that I just don't have. Even tho I am good to go with my replacement used $80 junkyard alternator - part of me would LIKE to fix the old one, if only to have a "replacement spare" ready and waiting, just in case the used junkyard replacement up and dies for any reason anytime soon. Maybe I will tear it down... i wouldn't know how to test for splattered diodes etc once I do tho. To be honest, any fool can tear something down given enough time and a big enough hammer but it takes a good man to put it back together right. This vid doesn't actually show that (putting it back together successfully). How do we know you fixed it? Maybe your just good at breaking stuff down and lets face it my 3 year old can wreck stuff - that doesn't take any particular talent. $50 bucks for a replacement part and all that work, versus $80 at the junkyard and 15 minutes with 2 spanner s to swap it out and be back on the road?. Just how i see it, OMMV (Others Mileage May Vary).

Hey Chris, nice video. I'm an amateur mechanic but a professional electronic technician. As such it was a nice tip you mentioned silver solder. But out of curiosity, was it not possible for you to make a mechanical connection and then solder those wires down yourself onto what was left of the original diode assembly?

Normally its worn brushes, and thats an easy fix. Otherwise find a second hand alternator online (we love recycling right?). Should be getting about 14v out of an alternator; it not there is something wrong with it. Final tip from me: buy common old cars; they are easy and cheap to get breakers parts online. Thx for the video!
Couldn't agree more about buying the right kind of car: I can find any parts I want for our car in a scrapyard and, because this model is so common, new aftermarket parts are 'cheap as chips' too. Cheers, Chris 👍
Alastair Munro Normally? You obviously are not as intelligent as Random Chris. Leave him to the commenting please lol. Diodes in the rectifier and brushes are the most common failures of alternators. Easy? Only sometimes they are easy. You obviously have not replaced many brushes in alternators. And to suggest one should buy an older car so that the alternator is easy to work on just makes you sound like one confused soul.
Yes, and ladies. I am a lady trying to repair her alternator. It's good to know that it still needed a $25 part. The question is, with rebuilt parts costing $90 and $70, Is it worth the effort on your own vehicle ? May make more sense for hobbiest with an extra car or someone that has a free alternator they want to rebuild just for kicks.
Without a cool British accent the rebuild will not be successful......it's like a Yank trying to make a good plate of fish and chips.....ain't happening...
Hi Glenn, thank you for your comment. My [late] dad was a very handy guy and taught me, by example, to get stuck into anything. He involved me from a young age and taught me a lot whilst I 'helped' [hindered!] him fixing outboard engines, motorbikes etc. I joined the Royal Air Force at 17 years old and spent 7.5 years as an aircraft technician, maintaining fast jets and helicopters. (2 of these years were spent in full time technical training.) Then once I left the RAF I started working offshore with ROV's and have therefore learnt about electrical systems, electronics and fibre optics. I was also a boat dealer for a few years and have built around 15 websites so far... Oh, and my wife and I completely refurbished a 1960's apartment - all DIY. I have my first apprentice - my 8 week old baby daughter! I'm going to do my best to pass on the 'you can do anything if you put your mind to it' attitude to her and also pass on some technical skills too because girls can be just as good at this stuff as guys. There you are then - I bet you weren't expecting a life story!... Cheers, Chris 👍
Here I was looking to refresh my skills as I am an "older" Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic. I have completed my training, but was laid off, still needing 700 hours of work yet. My last job left me with a lack of confidence and a reluctance to "dust myself off" and get to work again. I can tell you are a born "people person". Again, thanks for the videos and you have one more Subscriber! Merry Christmas!
Hi Glenn, everything happens for a reason. Enjoy your Christmas with your family and then I highly recommend that you do something in time for the 1st January... I've been doing this for the last 5 years or so and it is incredibly effective. Spend some time thinking about what you want to achieve in 2018. Make a small bullet point list (credit card size or smaller) with about 5 things on it. You can put whatever you want on there, but make the goals ambitious to the point that some of them may seem unachievable. Get your list and either laminate it or put some tape on it so that it will last then put it in your wallet and carry it around with you everywhere you go. You will be amazed at what happens! You won't necessarily reach every single goal because often what you actually want changes as time goes by, but you will often exceed the goals that you set yourself. As an example one of my goals for 2017 was to start a UA-cam channel about sailing and get 2000 subscribers. My wife and I opened that channel in February 2017 and we have almost 5000 subscribers... Setting and writing down your goals in this way really works. IF you decide to do this then I can't wait to hear from you next December to hear how you have got on! Merry Christmas to you and all those dear to you. Cheers, Chris 👍
You're blessed if you still have spare time. It seems that for most of us depending where you are from the day you don't make money you spend it and that time never comes back. I know it also happens the other way.
You need to explain what "good" means to people who don't know, like if I look on my meter for what you tested there is no "good" reading. Explain what good means as in 14.6 volts or less than 5 ohms of resistance, etc.
Nope, I wouldn't dare to try to do any of this just to save a couple hundred dollars. When I look at the video when I look at an alternator all I see is pain and frustration: physical pain mental pain physical frustration and mental frustration -- pay the man -- everything cool.

My Hitachi alternator is very similar except it doesn't have the clutch. But, the rectifiers must have experienced over heating. Could that be the result of using a boost charger before I replaced my batteries? I never had it on boost for more than it took to crank it.

Mmmhhmmmn.... Y'all in that 3-5%??
Which one of you is available for courting?? Lol
Shut up and make me a sammich
I’m inspired. Not as a man but as a human.
I have enjoyed this video and learnt alot.
Great video. I just changed alternator on my Volvo v50, and now I’m gonna try and fix the old one so I have a backup
Thank you so much I just replaced my alternator myself, I didn't even think of repairing the old one I gave it in for a core. I think the problem inside mine was the clutch from the loud squeal I smell I was experiencing. "subscribing"!
Welcome aboard Sondra. Chris 👍
Sondra L hi Sondra usually when you hear a loud squeal from an alternator it’s the bearings have gone bad. That is a very very easy fix!!!
Take apart and put in né bearings and bingo go to go
Well, the first vid that actually talks about the workings / electronics of an alternator. Not everything I wanted but close. Thanks.
This is the best video so far. Extremely complete instructions and great camera angles. Cheers!
👍
"Tops" Chris you are an amazing mechanic, with my 32 years electrical experience on cars i still learnt alot from your videos well done keep on what you do best God Bless you
You do have females watching love well done catching and correcting yourself, my mothers a Mechanical Engineer who is designing off shore wind turbines and I'm here learning how to fix my jeep cheers for the content magical being. X
Thank you :-)
same problem as mine, i ordered an entire assembly to replace" no doubt your a good mechanic sir!
Thank you for the video, and for acknowledging we women who also do some of our own repairs.
I've got a car that's been sitting for a year, and now the alternator seems to have packed up. Was working perfectly when parked. Will definitely give this a go. Thanks for sharing.
Hopefully its just corrosion that needs cleaning in my case.
This is one of the best info tutorials I have seen in ages nice one..
I will be checking out my alternator as the lights flicker.
Thanks Barry. Good luck with your alternator! Cheers, Chris 👍
lights flicker is sign of bad vrm.
mister, this is a great video, it helped me a lot, thanks and greetings from beautiful northern mexico, Hermosillo Sonora,
Thanks , I am now an expert on alternators !
Thank you, Chris. A very informative video, I now know how to take my alternator apart and how to test it with my multi-meter.
Great vid. Very informative. I used to just get a new alternator, now, I'm going to save some money! Thank you very very much!
My pleasure Jack! Cheers, Chris 👍
Thanks so much Chris for not being sexist, AND for your great tutorial! Just pulled mine out of my TD ute and it looks just the same. Thinking of buying a cheap new one on ebay, but certainly will watch your vid over and over again to see if I can fix it... Was hoping its just the brushes, but sooo happy I found your tutorial.
Nice one Neil, congratulations on fixing your alternator, I hope it serves you well. Cheers, Chris 👍
I always like mechanics astute enough to actually find the problem and fix it instead of just replacing the entire part. I notice they do this in Mexico, but not in the USA - often, you may be better off with the original part instead of another one that could have other issues.
Yea like dealerships dont even fix engines anymore they just replace them.
By that standard a 5 year old could be ase certified.
Often refurbished parts are more dependable because each individual one is handled and tested.
Excellent - happy fixing! Cheers, Chris 👍
Outstanding work! Not only well-videographed, with good audio and lighting, but the narration is smooth and the information beyond compare. I subscribed immediately.
Thank you very much Bob, welcome aboard! 👍

@@christopher_barr Recently, my Buick 98 LeSabre Custom's alternator failed. Rather than face a steep unit replacement cost, I followed one of the links to Amazon you provided in your video. Unfortunately,
nothing Amazon offered matched my specific needs for rebuilding the alternator.
Can you suggest a link to a rebuild kit for the alternator unit, or at least, the voltage regulator?
if you mean video quality of everything in the distance then correct but the camera was unfocused on the actual alternator wires and brushes explanation part
Thank you!!! 🫡🙏
7 years later... And your video still keeps helping people.. very well explained and easy to understand. 🎉
I love helping people and I'm very blessed that these videos allow me to do that. Thank you very much for your comment! 🙏👍
Wound stator units are dipped in varnish (usually) and baked at minimum of 350 Deg F
for 3 to 5 hours.
Thank you ! Best video on the subject so far! I know now what to do tomorrow on my 2 alternators (on the bench).
This is one of the best motor videos I’ve seen. Clear, concise and informative. 👍
Excellent Video!! and you're an excellent mechanic Chris and its very rare for me to give so much praise!! Well done.
EXCELLENT informative instructional video!! Thanx for not garbling and/or drowning out your narrative audio with some cheesy background "music" as soooo many guys make the mistake of doing. WELL DONE Mate!!
Cheers mate 👍
Hey Chris😃 really grateful for your advice and tutorial, I have got the alternator apart in all the bits you were showing and I noticed the clutch wasn't slipping one way as you demonstrated, it didn't slip either way... The brushes are fairly long still so now I may have to take the disassembled thingy to the auto lecky for the final verdict on what is wrong with it... And cost for a new part etc.... Thanks again from Australia👍😃🍀
This tutorial is brilliant ! Best regards from Poland
Thank you Marcin. Polska jest pięknym krajem! Cheers, Chris 👍
This is by far the best video on the tube on how to test it outside f the car but I wished you had shown us how to test it properly with the battery @2:15
Thanks for posting it. The whole procedure is a full learning experience.
👍👍👍
All these other guys just said it will show you the rebuild the alternator but they just pull it took it apart and put together they never showed me anyting this was great why you were doing that you said with the parts where and everything as you were going along thank God thank you
I used to work in a shop many years ago where we rebuilt alternators for Ford. Most of the time it was bad diods or a burned up stator. Another department went over the rotors but sometimes those would be bad too. We would tear down a couple hundred a time, clean them up and check all the parts before reassembly. All of ours got new brushed and bearings. GMs had a diode trio that would often fail.
I like to see things fixed rather than thrown away. Thumbs up to all the world's fixers! 👍

I just bought one from Walmart I don't know if I should have. A brand from Db Electrical but it was only $65. I don't think that it would have Bosch quality. I might be taking a chance on this. But couldn't beat the price.
brizzx32 when wal mart start selling parts like that
Yea i was shocked walmart would sell alternators too. For like 60 bucks cant beat that!
Great job I have learned a lot on how I to rebuild a alternator
Good video, real mechanics fix parts such as alternators, they don't exchange them for a dubiously rebuilt one at a car parts store.
I briefly looked away to check the football and looked back as he was saw’in it 😂😂😂😂 brilliant instructions especially to someone quiet new to it all, subbed thank you.
Thanks for including the ladies! ❤ .. Have done this once before, may have to again on another alternator. Love how you say aluminum 😍
Thanks Lena 👌 There's a whole backstory behind the Aluminium vs Aluminum thing... The world has chopped and changed between the two versions... Cheers, Chris
Thanks for the nice and informative video! Now in this wonky supply chain era repairing in-house or at home is becoming the choice to save a few bucks.
Thanks so much for the tutorial! Watched 2 full ads to make sure you get paid. ;) Very helpful.
Thank you very much Max, that's very kind of you mate. 👍
Fantastic! So glad to see this so I might be able to repair this, since I can't afford to replace it.
Great video man. Much more detailed then most I've seen, between you and Eric the car guy no one can compare. Thanks for the video iv always wanted to see an actual video of a rebuild of an alternater.
Thank you very much indeed. 👍
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Awesome tutorial. Thanks again
My pleasure! Subscribe for more helpful videos on random subjects! Chris 👍
Thanks for This Use full Info .. Much Appreciated. please do one more video about Dievots ( Electrical Chip ) inside the Alternator. and please do elaborate how to test it .

He put it over very easy for or anyone to take it in that's the way to do it not complicate things good job 👍
Good video. Wish I had watched it sooner. You're a good guy. This was relaxing to watch. Good credo. LOVE LIFE.
Cheers mate 👍
Wish I had seen this video 6 months ago. I could have saved the money I paid for a "rebuilt" alternator. I have my original OEM in my garage and that's going to be my first project when I get home. Thanks for the great video!
I love how people who have been doing this for a long time call a hard smack a gentle tap lol
awesome. gave me hope. I can not find a alternator for my car any where looked and looked so great video.
Thank you very much Chris for sharing the video.Greetings from Malaysia.
Wow great info! I may use this info someday, but for now, to the junkyard I go! 😁
Thanks for sharing. I wish I had found and watched your video yesterday so I wouldn't have rushed to buy a new one.

Thank u for the video. Always wondered about the alternator. Will definitely break down my next alternator when it's a problem.
My pleasure, I'm glad it encouraged to to get stuck in to an alternator repair. Cheers, Chris 👍
Qualified Auto Electrician here 20 years, learned something again thank you , diode testing always used to get them outside and test each diode but the quick method is nice . Keep on making good videos 👍
thank you very much, you saved me about 225 dollars (us)
Hi William, my pleasure! Thank you: as a result of your comment I have added a tip jar to my website randomchris.com to allow anyone I have helped to throw a dollar or two in there if they wish. (This in not in any way a request for you to do this, I just wanted to thank you for motivating me to add the tip jar.) Cheers! Chris 👍
Omg where do you shop? 😳
It was good to watch your Video and learn that I don't have to take it to Autozone as a core, when I buy another one. This is empowering.
I'm glad you found it useful. Cheers! Chris 👍
Awesome man thank you

Great video! i went to bosch fuel injection school!,great products, great people to learn from!
Thank you Joe 👍 Cheers, Chris
Keep the videos coming Chris!
I love reading car repair comments...
Lol
I haven't been able to find an alternator kit in 20 years!
I used to rebuild mine all the time.

Say whaaat?
May I ask how you learned all of this information/skills? You could teach Apprentices, as you have a good attitude! Thank You!
Cheers,
Chris 👍
Why produce videos if you use terms only you understand i.e. tests good.
"tests good" = "the test I undertook had a satisfactary conclusion" Hope this helps 😉
You need to explain what "good" means to people who don't know, like if I look on my meter for what you tested there is no "good" reading. Explain what good means as in 14.6 volts or less than 5 ohms of resistance, etc.
Ok. I'm definitely not going to try and fix it myself. Thanks for the video : )
Nope, I wouldn't dare to try to do any of this just to save a couple hundred dollars.
When I look at the video when I look at an alternator all I see is pain and frustration: physical pain mental pain physical frustration and mental frustration -- pay the man -- everything cool.
What on earth made you watch this Video, then?
Surely you realised that to fix it you would have to disassemble it?

My Hitachi alternator is very similar except it doesn't have the clutch. But, the rectifiers must have experienced over heating. Could that be the result of using a boost charger before I replaced my batteries? I never had it on boost for more than it took to crank it.
