I've just finished post ARR and watched this trailer yesterday, im so pumped.
Almost 10 years later and I still get chills in the end
I was just a poor kid when FF14 came out, I couldn't even afford my own PC when HW came out. But the trailers fueled my imagination, encouraged me to write. I remember watching HW trailer in particular, being fascinated by dragons and sky cities and just castles found high up they almost pierce the sky.
Now I'm fully employed and has finished ARR and Heavensward, almost done with Stormblood. Heavensward will always have a special place in my heart, my favorite expansion.

Fun fact, it's supposed to be Nidhogg at 3:41 instead of Hraesvelgr. But during production, someone did an oopsie and sent the animation team the wrong concept art. Thus we have the vore king attacking Ishgard in the cinematic when we all know he'd never do that.

Maybe I'm just too passionate about stuff like this, but listening to works of art like this, even without the visuals and just my imagination alone, can bring tears to my eyes.
This song came to mind just a few days ago for me personally, mostly because I was listening to it while I was doing Dragonsong Ultimate, and this plays in the background of one of the phases. And I'd realized I was having issues remembering the song clearly. So I came to this video, just to listen back to it without the sounds of weapon skills getting smashed, or having to make call-outs for my group.
As I was listening to the song, just hearing every single instrument, the horns ramping up when the song really kicked in, the violin going crazy and selling me on the tragedy of Ishgard's war with the dragons. It started to bring tears to my eyes. I truly was crying over a piece of music I'd heard a hundred times over, and yet I hadn't heard it so cleanly in such a long time. It was heart-wrenching, in a way. Like I'd forgotten the beauty of the track.
I've been humming along to it non-stop during prog now. It's like I'm back in the my sprout days, when Heavensward was around the corner for me, and I just kept hyping myself up by listening to this song.

I'm not an MMO player. As i huge final fantasy games lover, i didn't know that this game has an amazing story presentation. Very emotional, impressive. I quickly finished other 2 expansions too after i finished heavenward. Every one of them was unique. Every single song was perfectly composed, they all were so beautiful. These made me to say that again : I'm glad that I'm a final fantasy fan. Now I'm very excited for Endwalker and Final Fantasy XVI

It’s an Ultimate duty, a SUPER HARD non-canon boss rush of a raid that typically focuses on the major bosses of an expansion or raid series. There are currently four of them, with Dragonsong’s Reprise, the one focusing on the major Heavensward bosses(With the exception of at least Ravana), being the most recent one. They typically give super cool-looking weapons and bragging rights to those raid groups that can power through and clear them…That is to say, they are ENTIRELY optional, and only hardcore raiders and those seeking XIV’s toughest challenges need apply.

I will never forget that night of April 2022 when I finally after so much anticipation, finished ARR and got to watch this trailer for the first time before proceeding to Ishgard.

The absolute crescendo at 3:55 has to be one of my favorite musical sequences in history. There's something absolutely uplifting about rising melodies, but they have to crest eventually. Yet somehow, this one seems to just continue to rise - heavens-ward, one might say - and then has such a potent cap that it feels amazing to listen to every time.
I've enjoyed all the FFXIV trailers in different ways, but that little section of this one still ranks at the top with the only rival in my mind being part of Answers in ARR, the Estinian segment (which is basically this same music again), the part where Alphie heals Alisaie, and the Wings of Hope segment (all from EW - EW's music is just amazing, but so is almost all FFXIV music!)

I always find myself coming back to this theme. Especially when it comes to the beginning leading up to 1:45 is so melancholy yet beautiful. I could listen to her voice and that amazing melody. Don’t even get me started on Endwalker - Footfalls 😉
I still love how similar the ruling authority in Ishgard is to the Dragons they're fighting. Still love how world-breaking they present revelations.

This singular phrase pulled me into FF14, and though I've been slow about it, it's been one hell of a journey.
Oh my God. Before I somehow got busy or something dragged my attention away from this game, I used to watch the reveal trailer on loop when I was young and it was just revealed, not just because it was the first expansion, not because I mained Dragoon, not even because it was Ishgard, the place I desperately wanted to see in-game because it mystified me so much that I even incorporated it into my character's backstory, but because of this song. It was just so enchanting and full of mystery, and perfectly encapsulated how I felt as I watched in awe for the first time. Knowing that a full version of this song actually exists and without sound effects makes me so happy. I cannot wait to get back to this game once I'm done with FF11 and finally open my collector's edition of this expansion pack while listening to this masterpiece :')
You will not be disappointed. Heavensward is spectacular.
The scene where the Warrior of Light joins the other Dragoons never fails to give me goosegumps. It gives me such good Attack on Titans vibe.
I mean...All Ishgardian's carry dragon blood in them that can be awakened. Kinda like how eldian's can become titans, both pretty similar
I mean Dragoons are essentially like the Scouts regiment with high of a mortality rate they have and the shit they do that other parts of the armies cannot.

I do wonder what the rest of the game would have been like had our dear comrade lived and stayed at our side into Stormblood and (for me as I’m still getting through it) and the unknown beyond. Oh but how I wish I’d done a better job of avoiding spoilers. But then, they aren’t many. Just a few whispers of a future yet not known.
And I refuse to see more spoilers if possible. Everyone says that I’ll need tissues again. And given Heavensward made me cry twice, I go in fully accepting that will probably happen.
I still remember grinding Coretheas Fates leveling up my dragoon, and preparing for Heavensward. Since then I have been a dragoon main and I don't regret it.
Dragoon all you wish, you'll never match the fabled Alaimbert the Spiked Butt, and his mighty shaft.

I main WHM and have mained healer for like 2 expacs now, but like... DRG will always be in my heart. Started as a Dragoon and will always be one
@@TeamIcarus1 just right by the town in Western Coerthas, there's a FATE that can spawn where the Spiked Butt will challenge you to a fight. Right after you beat him, another FATE will spawn in the same area and he'll jump in to help you against some enemies

As someone who officially started the HW expansion tonight, I’m truly feeling the hype of this song when it played in game. Knowing the lore, I now think “Guide us, O mighty Fury / Guide us to victory” are the Ishgardians and the wyrms believing their war of millennia will be won by their own people, and the final chorus are of the dragons singing of retribution for the Ishgardian’s past transgressions
Having played none of it, I can definitely say HW will be my favourite expansion

6 years later and this is STILL my favorite expansion HANDS DOWN! Everyone has their own opinion, but Heavensward MSQ and content was peak for me. Patch 3.3 to 3.5 are my all time favorite patches. I miss Heavensward so much :'C
100% the same, the game is hardly the sameeee now. been hoping for a classic maybe, especially because of all these job changes and stuff.

Even going back and doing this content min ilvl + no echo still isn't the same as it was when it was current. Too many job changes have happened. Even if for a week if they did some sort of event thing where we could play with the old combat design philosophy, I'd be super happy
Yeah honestly it kinda ruins the rest of the game for me lol. The stakes feel so personal compared to an end of the world scenario.

Honestly since i fisnished ARR and cross to Heavensward, i haven't been able to listen to this theme, it's just so right about everything and now singing the lyrics it all makes sense as to why i can't stop. The path to retribution is ahead of me now and i will stop at nothing until i get my vengeance!!

This song is so much sadder than I expected in the beginning its talking about ice heart and how everything is with ishgard. The second part is the call to arms to fight for ishard and the third part is about vengeance nidhog is calling his fellow dragons

NGL it was pretty creepy seeing Hrasevalgar's brood getting tempered. They really thought of a lot when making this fight.
Not only Hraes's brood but also Nidhogg's. Darkscale is one of Niddhog's children while Vidofnir and Vedrfolnir are of Hraes's brood

We never really had another moment like this. Sure there were plot twists, but this whole section of story was so game of thrones it was great.

I’ve got to admit that while I enjoyed this entire trailer, my favourite bit was seeing the WoL stand-in don his distinctive Dragoon attire and join the others in defence of Ishgard. Even though my WoL is a female Hyur summoner for solo content and scholar or white magic for group content. It’s hard to say whether I prefer Sch or Whm though.
But after that final battle with Nidhogg I was so impressed with the Heavensward story and the history and lore of the Dragoons I went back and created a second character. A female Elezen that started off as a Lancer and progressed to Dragoon. She’s now lvl 51 and on that final few missions that culminates in Eorzea kicking the Garleans out.
Yet I must also admit that having only having gotten through part of Stormblood and seen the conditions of both Ala Mhigo and Doma, I have a renewed appreciation of exactly how much of a bad idea it was to even consider surrendering to Baelsar. And I have a renewed gladness that Minfilia talked the Seedseer, Admiral and Sultana out of it.
Always forget about this great song as its over shadowed by Dragonsong

The beginning to this song reminds me of Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen's menu theme
This still gives me goosebumps. I love to play it when calibrating my telescope for lunar and planetary observations. There's no way to describe the feeling of seeing the full moon finally focus in at 200x magnification when 2:06 drops.
I love how honest this video is about Ishgard: such as the life in the city and the fighting, and then there is the banquet teasers that had me going at the end of arr like: "OK, I know what happens.... This is just the Heavensward trailer-OMFG. NO. NO. *NOOOOOOO!*"

Rewatching it the n gillion times I just caught a glimpse of how dragoon jump that high and it finally make sense. Apparently they jump and catch the projecting ballista’s rope and let go mid air. Holy balls who thought of that absurd move lmao

Dang. The Dragoons here do be giving Scout Legion vibes (from AoT) with all the flying and grappling cannon thingies flying around.
This trailer KEEPS giving me goosebumps. I remember playing ARR sooo late, but remaining spoiler-free and went into Heavensward without a clue. This hit like nothing else. I'm a WoW vet but their trailers never had this kind of spectacle and energy, and while the music there has been pretty good, this is still LEVELS above. Hitting that mark between high and low fantasy like FF should. The narrative in just this trailer is concise, driving, allowing a moment to pause, to breathe, and then it ramps all over again into the tremendous finale. Just masterful.

Yes, FF14 does a wonderful job with repeated themes for each expansion. But I have to admit that when I heard a theme taken from FF11 of which I was deeply familiar, it was a little confusing.
I started playing FF14 when this expansion came out. Absolutely fell in love with this song, the singing is just ethereal. Sadly I only played FF14 for a few months as MMORPGs aren’t really my thing, but I definitely understand why ppl love the game.

Unfortunately with this expac being so old, and certain things being obvious now that weren't at the time...
This trailer was so fucking heartbreaking at the time. Literally becoming exiled from Eorzea. That feeling of walking alone in the snow, that's how HW really started for us and it was so impactful.

Honestly, final fantasy xiv is the only game that has ever been able to instill pride in me in the class I have chosen. I've been a dragoon since 1.0 . Heavensward was such a great experience as a dragoon main, seeing the fascinating history and pride of my chosen class. Whenever I hear the heavenswards theme, a great sense of pride swells in me as a dragoon.
I felt the same way with he expansion but for my race. I'm an elf main and always will be. Seen you in game
