this song is mind blowing to me. i cant think of another huge climactic boss fight with somber music like this. normally the music makes you feel like you are at the climax of a great war or battle. where a hero will triumph. but this song reminds you that you are at the climax of a tragedy.
The opening notes of Dragonsong always threaten to bring a few tears to my eye, thinking about the Final Steps of Faith. You aren't fighting a villain or saving a princess, you're putting down a mad dog. Someone so consumed with their grief and hate that they've lost themselves.
This video autoplayed for me after not having played the game for several months. Hearing it, a profound sadness washed over me. I loved this game so very much, as well as those I was lucky enough to have played it with. Most of those people have left my life at this point, and I miss them dearly. Please appreciate those who deign to share their time with you while you are still able.

Hraesvelgr lending us his eye, the WoL slowly walking towards it's radiant light and forward to face Nidhogg one final time. I believe I stood there for at least 15 minutes, just to take in the atmosphere. I didn't even que for his battle yet, I didn't want this moment to be interrupted. FF14's music is a cut above the rest. Such a wide variety of feelings being stirred by this amazing soundtrack. I am currently playing the whole game again with a new character and I can't wait to reach Heavensward again.
I just completed it not too long ago on my second adventure through the game. Thought that, since I knew what was coming, it wouldn't hit as hard. I was wrong.
Yeah, that walk is probably still my favourite WoL moment even up until present day. The resolve in their walk, and that glare to Nidhogg at the end of it. Even if the WoL wasn't effectively a silent protagonist most of the time, it feels like a place where they wouldn't speak. No words, no cries of emotion. Just a face that says all it needs to Nidhogg: "Bring it". That little sequence just *perfectly* captures the feelings the cutscenes before it had been trying to build in the player, and really channels how the player is probably feeling at that exact moment through their character.
I always thought this was the actual non-primal shiva speaking to the people of ishgard and dravania wishing that they would stop fighting each other and have a peace and we did that for her
Endwalker is good but HW was so great from the moment you arrive at Ishgard. I always feel teary when I see the scene of Alphinaud Tataru and WoL walking into Ishgard.
I beat Nidhogg recently and... god, the music really sold it to me. It really gave that feel of an era of blood, violence, war, and pain finally coming to its end to usher in a time of peace, to rekindle the bond between man and dragon that was severed in a time long past. A song worthy to be the theme of the vengeful shade of Nidhogg. Thordan might be when base Heavensward ends, but Nidhogg to me is the REAL ending to Heavensward.
I saw Susan Calloway performed this at Distant Worlds in Singapore last night. Hearing it live with the full orchestra and choir is really a different and wonderful experience.
For like over 15 minutes of matchmaking for the trial even though i was a tank, i just stood facing him with one single thought, to get rid of this embodiment of rage and hatred. Being a dragon or man, it didn't matter, Nidhogg had to go. And goddamn was i as hell bent as Alphinaud on saving Estinien, and then to see our king of bros Haurchefant and Ysayle one last time... After that part of the story and having my perfect job through Dark Knight i knew i had found my game.
Normally the music for the final boss of an arc makes you feel like a hero, like you *personally* are the reason things are going to be better. This song is not one of those. It is people working together and mending rifts to put down the dragon equivalent of a mad dog. There is no joy when the fight is over, no celebration. Just relief, that a thousand years of madness has finally ended.
Still one of my favorites FF14 songs and story. And a warning of being in the right and not being able to forgive can lead to destruction. Rest in peace Nidhogg.
I loved this song as it played while I waited for the matchmake to find a group for the trial. It was such an epic moment, standing there on the bridge after all that had happened; not just the cutscene, the entire expansion. It was a momentous and awesome climax. It was then I realized this game lived up to the hype.
I sat there on that bridge for a solid 10 minutes waiting for queue to pop just listening to this song on repeat. I was kind of on the fence about the game, but this whole storyline and the resolution had me hooked. The way the music keeps playing when you transition into the fight was what sold me on it. It's a small thing, but it's the kind of detail that sticks with you. I still get hype every time Final Steps of Faith comes up in the trials roulette. It was my favorite fight until Seat of Sacrifice.
I just yesterday cleared this with my paladin. What a beautiful score of music. As I shouted on my paladins honor to not fail, I charged into the fray with fellow adventurers to end the sorrow between dragon and man.

For being the first expansion, this song is forever engrained into my mind (in a good way)... It's insane how good this song is, and it's still my favorite for sure.
Nidhogg is the antagonist. But i genuinely felt bad to put him to rest. He was a leader, proud dragon that want to defend his kind, but King Thordan betrayal break his trust completely.

Heavensward is truly critically acclaimed, and I was so happy I finally reached it through the sloppy ARR speed. I am still sad its the shortest expansion if we count MSQ missions :( But its so good❤
Finishing the cutscene just before the Final Steps of Faith, re-zoning to see Nidhogg before you patiently waiting, wreathed in flame.... that was the last moment in a game that legitimately made me GUSH. Just, "OHMYGODTHATLOOKSSOCOOOOOOOOOL...!"
This hits harder after the moogle tribe quests cus they let you understand and ruminate on what was lost and the perspective of the dragons besides the great wyrms
My only reason for being like "I understand, but c'mon man." was destroyed when my friend reminded me that since he is an eternal being, and of the first brood, the time since his wifes death was essentially the equivalent of like a couple of years to him. I'm sorry but DFXIV peaked with Heavensward. The dragons, the story, the atmosphere , the fact that the council turned out to be the Knights of the Round table. Everything about heavensward felt like a proper Final
Heavensward is one of the best FF story I've played for sure. I think it went downhill in Stormblood before getting back to the same level of HW in Shadowbringers (some would argue ShB is better). Then we have the big disappointment of Endwalker; a controversial opinion. So I guess it peaked, went down, got back to the same peak, then went down again. Lets see how Dawntrails fare, but I don't have high expectations
Spoilers Could you really blame nidhogg for what he did the betrayal and loss he must have felt for what man did they killed his sister and took her eyes by force if anything his anger is justified I feel bad in his grief he let his anger and rage take over but in the end he would never let that anger go till ever man was dead so it was necessary to kill him and end of the dragonsong war just wish there was another way or his soul finally found peace
While I understand why he started the war and even fully agree, he should have stopped after all the perpetrators were dead. Instead he let his anger fully take over him and kept the war going with the descendants that have nothing to do with it and don't even know anything. They just see that the dragon wants to kill them. Nidhogg basically became a rabid animal that had to be put down, broken and stuck in the past.
Dragons have long memories though. To us it happened ages ago. The perpetrators have long since turned to dust. To a dragon - who lives probably hundreds of times the lifespan of the average Hyur and therefore has a completely different perception of the passage of time - this transgression was carried out basically just a couple of months ago at most. They are still pissed as if it just happened. You also have to factor in that Nidhogg deliberately drew the Ishgardians into a generations-spanning war. The king who slew the first dragon kept the reason for the war a secret. So all the common Ishgardian knows is that dragons are the sworn enemy of Ishgard, just attacking theme for no reason, and that they have an eternal feud. Nidhogg single-handedly molded a culture whose sole purpose was to draw him and dragonkind into battle after battle, just so he could cull them and then let them repopulate and then cull them again, so on and so forth. The writers did a phenomenal job conveying that the fury and the grief of a dragon are not just emotions, but actual forces of nature.
@@mujiha doesn't matter they still tried to cover it up and act innocent like they did nothing wrong not even the people knew the full story and where probably fed some bs how the dragons turned on them all to keep there succession of power going until we the warrior of light with help find out the truth of there wrong doing all that bloodshed by both man and dragon that needed not be spilled in the name of power and ruling over ishgard which was a led by deceit silencing anyone that found out the truth and not until the the events of heavensward that one man dared stand up and question the war with the dragons and find out the wrong doings of the church yes nidhogg had to be put down an unfortunate consequence maybe if he could be reached and reasoned with earlier in the war by bringing the murderers of his sister to justice maybe he could have been reached and the dragonsong war stopped I stand by nidhogg a villain made to do what he did out of sorrow and grief for a wrongly murderer member of his family

My only reason for being like "I understand, but c'mon man." was destroyed when my friend reminded me that since he is an eternal being, and of the first brood, the time since his wifes death was essentially the equivalent of like a couple of years to him.

I recently watched your video on how you saved your channel from it being deactivated due to copyright strikes, and in the video you mention that Dragonsong, Answers and Revolution are songs that are one-way-ticket to getting your channel banned from UA-cam due to a complicated rights ownership. So, I have to ask, how is this song still on your channel if it is among those complicated three songs that will get your channel banned for sure?
They updated the material usage license and removed the restrictions for the three songs. They probably have the rights to those songs now- I uploaded my vids right after

I'm sorry but DFXIV peaked with Heavensward. The dragons, the story, the atmosphere , the fact that the council turned out to be the Knights of the Round table. Everything about heavensward felt like a proper Final
Heavensward is one of the best FF story I've played for sure. I think it went downhill in Stormblood before getting back to the same level of HW in Shadowbringers (some would argue ShB is better). Then we have the big disappointment of Endwalker; a controversial opinion. So I guess it peaked, went down, got back to the same peak, then went down again. Lets see how Dawntrails fare, but I don't have high expectations

Could you really blame nidhogg for what he did the betrayal and loss he must have felt for what man did they killed his sister and took her eyes by force if anything his anger is justified I feel bad in his grief he let his anger and rage take over but in the end he would never let that anger go till ever man was dead so it was necessary to kill him and end of the dragonsong war just wish there was another way or his soul finally found peace
While I understand why he started the war and even fully agree, he should have stopped after all the perpetrators were dead. Instead he let his anger fully take over him and kept the war going with the descendants that have nothing to do with it and don't even know anything. They just see that the dragon wants to kill them. Nidhogg basically became a rabid animal that had to be put down, broken and stuck in the past.
Dragons have long memories though. To us it happened ages ago. The perpetrators have long since turned to dust. To a dragon - who lives probably hundreds of times the lifespan of the average Hyur and therefore has a completely different perception of the passage of time - this transgression was carried out basically just a couple of months ago at most. They are still pissed as if it just happened. You also have to factor in that Nidhogg deliberately drew the Ishgardians into a generations-spanning war. The king who slew the first dragon kept the reason for the war a secret. So all the common Ishgardian knows is that dragons are the sworn enemy of Ishgard, just attacking theme for no reason, and that they have an eternal feud. Nidhogg single-handedly molded a culture whose sole purpose was to draw him and dragonkind into battle after battle, just so he could cull them and then let them repopulate and then cull them again, so on and so forth. The writers did a phenomenal job conveying that the fury and the grief of a dragon are not just emotions, but actual forces of nature.
@@mujiha doesn't matter they still tried to cover it up and act innocent like they did nothing wrong not even the people knew the full story and where probably fed some bs how the dragons turned on them all to keep there succession of power going until we the warrior of light with help find out the truth of there wrong doing all that bloodshed by both man and dragon that needed not be spilled in the name of power and ruling over ishgard which was a led by deceit silencing anyone that found out the truth and not until the the events of heavensward that one man dared stand up and question the war with the dragons and find out the wrong doings of the church yes nidhogg had to be put down an unfortunate consequence maybe if he could be reached and reasoned with earlier in the war by bringing the murderers of his sister to justice maybe he could have been reached and the dragonsong war stopped I stand by nidhogg a villain made to do what he did out of sorrow and grief for a wrongly murderer member of his family

The best expansions have been those where the final boss has a justified reason for his actions but must be stopped due to how far they went.
