Great video overall though I would like to add a few things. 1.) more emphasis that beard oil is applied *through* your beard as it's meant to keep the skin underneath healthy. Beards draw nutrients from the skin and the oil replaces those nutrients. 2.) apply a beard balm to the hair itself. It acts as a nutritional hair gel to keep the hairs healthy and where you put them. 3.) Beard straightener for those who want a longer look that's less bushy. Always use the straightener before applying oil or balm as it will melt them, possibly burning your beard hairs. Don't worry about burning yourself as they have protective skin guards so the hot parts touch your beard, not your skin. 4.) Beard shampoo and conditioner. Your beard hair is different from the top of your head so don't use the same product for it. 5.) Don't worry too much about the critics or your patches. My wife, children, and others used to complain about my beard and would keep insisting that I shave it. Well, I decided to do that as I wanted to look as professional as possible for job interviews as I switched careers. Everyone who had previously insisted on me shaving it hated that I did so. You may think your patches are obvious but they're likely not even noticed by others. You're looking at where some trees are missing while most other people just see the forest. Let it grow out some and they'll most blend in. 6.) Do "not* let anyone else trim your beard. If you must, insure that they understand and agree to trimming it how you want it. I went to an old fashioned barbershop and agreed to getting a trim from them for a few extra bucks after a haircut. They trimmed it way too short and shaved everything to right under my jaw. It looked horrible. I don't ever let anyone else touch my beard at all now except for my wife as she caresses it or my 4 year old daughter plays with it because "it's so fluffy!". I recommend starting with shampooing, conditioning, drying with a towel, straightening it, applying oil, using a wooden comb (plastic rips and tears at the hair) to remove any remaining knots while lifting up and away from the skin, applying the balm starting at the roots and coming out (easier to do as it's out and pointed away from the combing, and then brushing everything in to place. Once everything is where you want it, then trim with shears or very carefully with a trimmer or clippers. I recommend trimming after instead before because your hairs will be in different places. You can simply brush away the stray parts you cut off.
@@RandomPerson-nd2ey ever consider that you had a good beard all along, and by grooming yourself, you showed others that you take care of yourself? Its not the beard oil my dude. You get used to the itching. Your skin produces enough oil to keep your hair healthy.
+1 on not letting barbers near beards. They never listen and do what you ask properly, always ruining it. One thing especially was the cheek line always being pushed down too far it drove me nuts. Honestly stopped going to a barber once I became bald enough to just shave my head, then I practiced and did my beard my way and I have to say even if I mess a small thing up it’s never too bad, I learn from it, and I’m always content with the results of my effort. Plus I save $60AUD.
Great tutorial Thomas, thank you! I would add we may use shaving oil both before and after wet shaving finishing part. And I tried Vitaman oil - it definitely works amazing and smells like expensive mens perfume.
I know that a clean beard shave requires shaving 2 fingers above my Adam’s apple, but my dream look includes a few tiny stray hairs jutting out from my Adam’s apple. is this possible? My beard stops just above my Adam’s apple before growing outwards.
I don't know if they could have found a less qualified man to tell us about beard maintenance. This selection made as much sense as me explaining how to cultivate a full afro (I am quite white with thin and straight hair).
Don't apply beard oil to a beard this short. It is too close to the skin ,it will make the skin oily and will just lead to breakouts in the skin . Beard balm is the job for a beard this length.

I'm glad they picked a rather patchy beard as a model, because not many of us have a thick facial hair
Not many of who?
@teas926 not many of US, as in WE (we the people).
Got it?

no the whole beard oil thing is snake oil. Your body produces enough nutrients for your skin.
@@fernank017 Well, I got more compliments and less itching when I grew a beard without using than with using so I'll keep using it.

Great video, can you do one about acne, scars, and prevention
Thanks. I have been waiting for this for quite some time.
Thanks for checking it out Kamrul!
@@RealMenRealStyle You're certainly welcome!
So u haven't been shaved til now?
If you can grow pretty higher cheek line would I still look best trimming that or keep them at the natural height as long as it’s not too high?
As long as it's even then consider yourself lucky
Hey, can you make a video on the perfect way to create a goatee by trimming and shaving the beard?
Good video, but awesomeness doesn't go out of style, so I'll keep my beard full and long!
It all comes down to finding out what works for you. Thanks for watching the video.
@@RealMenRealStyle , finding what works for you is really important. My beard wins trophies, so it is obviously working for me!
what trimmer is the best bang for buck?? i really like Philips Norelco 7000 series whats other options?
Can you talk about the new 2022 Yves Saint Laurent l'homme intense eau de parfum ?
My mustache is crazy thick, chin ok, but my sides are patchy. I usually have to go 3mm on my mustache if my sides are 6mm.
Bro skipped step 1: Have a beard

The best way to trim your beard is to shave it all off. Don't mind me, that's just the military in me 🤣🤣
🤣
Great voice.
Nice!

Do you think you could do a video on more stylish canes to carry while wearing a suit?
You went from kind of a beard to a shadow of a beard

eso no es barba... eso es pelusilla...
i just watched this video to see if i could learn something knew. nah im good.
This video upset me.

Shave that off
No offense but this was horrible. You don't trim that high up, just above the adam's apple is the sweetspot, that high you just look... Weird.
how about get a guy that has a beard smh
