Even the occasions in a barbers when I have got a face shave, I am left with razor burn and it looks like I have not been shaved if the barber goes with the growth. I think it may be the case that some men just don’t have suitable skin for shaving. Alum blocks also give me an allergic response.
This is for people with sensitive skin- listen up : I'm 63 years old and been wet shaving for decades but kept suffering from acne and irritation. Ive just dealt with it, since using electric shavers are worse. I've tried $50 imported shaving soaps from Europe and used a Synthetic brush. I've used $5.00 to $25 can and tube shaving gels, cream's and butters. I've used the best DE , SE razors and blades, it didn't matter..same result. After a long process of elimination and spending a small fortune on products around the world, today I only use Avenno and Nivea sensitive shaving gel and My skin 98% clear. The root cause of my past irritation and acne was the alcohol and aluminum sulfates in the shaving soaps. 90% of the soaps contains it along with tons of chemicals I cannot pronounce. Beware of the expensive fancy jars of soaps- there the worst! It sickend me to throw out a dozen different containers of this stuff. So if you have skin like me, I hope this saved you money and helped you out.
You should have mentioned using an alum block and then rinsing with cold water before applying an after shave balm. Alum is antiseptic, antimicrobial, and an astringent to close up the pores. Applying an alum block paied with a non alcoholic post shave balm is the way to go. Always use shave soap or oil and never use an alcoholic after shave.
Eh gotta disagree with you alcoholic after shaves burn but pleasantly, also they disinfect any wounds so it’s good. Balms don’t. Also scent on aftershaves are awesome.
@@theclown9293 That's why you use the alum block. It does everything alcohol does and more without stripping the natural oils from your face and drying your skin out. The post shave balm then acts as a gentle moisturizer.
Alum (specifically the Aluminium it contains) is also suspected of playing a negative role in development of dementia. It is unclear if enough is absorbed to make a difference if you only let it sit on your face for 30secs before rinsing it back off (which you should be doing anyway). Better to just use cold water and maybe witch hazel rather than alum if you can.
I'm not a guy, but I've made all of these shaving mistakes on my legs, bikini line & my underarms...though not exactly sure I'd want to use an aftershave with alcohol on any of those areas (plus don't wanna end up smelling like a man). I do wish they'd make better, safer & more effective pre-shave, razor-time & after-shave products for us ladies too (but a more lady-like scent or unscented). And I do know a couple of ladies who shave their faces due to excessive, unwanted facial hair caused by severe PCOS & a feminine version would be perfect for them.
Outlaw Mild Razor + Persona Blue + Badger Brush + Porasso White Trio (Preshave + Cream + Aftershave balm) + Alum Block = No Burns or irritation for life. However, you missed the important step, after shave kit cleaning and disinfectant lubricating the razor head!
I find using a R41 with Feather blades, The Cube pre-shave, Cella/3P/TFS shave soap with a boar brush, Thayers Face Toner, a proper moisturising cream to be better than anything else I've ever tried. For hygiene reasons and closeness I only use a blade once or twice usually.
My mistake, shaving against the grain. Good idea only to do it after shaving with the grain. I usually do it against the grain because I like the deeper cut if the hair follicles.
I was making all of these mistakes because no one showed me so i had to go with what i think but it turns out i was doing it entirely wrong. Quick question how often should we shave? anyways this video helps thank you for the tips
Before shaving: 1. Prep your face with warm water 2. Use a brush with soap to prepare the skin (Let it sit for a minute or more) 3. Use a sharp and clean blade During shave: 4. Let the blade do the work, Do not press down 5. Shave with the grain that pertains to the specific area of your face that you're shaving 6. Only stroke about 1.5 inches (Don't go all the way down your face as it clogs the razor) 7. Don't repeatedly shave over the same spot (IF you need to get a specific patch, apply more shaving cream before shaving that patch) 8. IF you need to, reapply shaving cream to the entire face and shave against the grain After shaving: 9. Gently wash your face with a cleanser or exfoliating cleanser 10. Gently dry your face by patting it down with a towel 11. Use an alcohol-free aftershave while your face is still damp 12. Apply moisturizer after the aftershave
My biggest mistake is not using a preshave oil..but then again I try to buy locally so I can have stuff right when I need it. Also I use an aftershave oil and a balm..I use the aftershave oil to disinfect and then wipe my face down before putting on some aftershave balm. My biggest problem area is right under my chin where both sides of my face meet..I can never get as close a shave as I want, I always feel some hair there even after going with and then against the grain..I can feel smooth as silk rubbing one way but then when I reach the other side I can feel the hair against the grain...drives me nuts..I've had a professional straight razor wet shave before too and even they couldn't get it as smooth as I want it so I've given it up as a lost cause for that part and just do the best I can.
Is that different from a stiptic stick, or is it two names for the same product? Because I already have a stiptic since I get a little clumsy with my double edge razor.

I use near hot water to for my beard then I massage the shaving cream, then I start to shave. Once I finish I, I finish with cold water 👌. After that I use After shave lotion 👌👌. Easy fast and always smooth

the 10 COMMANDMENTS for PREVENTING RAZOR BUMPS & INGROWN HAIRS 1. THOU SHALT NOT USE DIRTY BLADES! Avoid shaving with dull, over-used razor blades. And be sure to keep your slightly used tools as clean as possible. Scrub the cutting heads of your tools with soap, hot water, and rubbing alcohol to destroy bacteria. Pro Tip: even brand new blades still need to be cleaned. 2. HONOR THY DELICATE SKIN! Avoid too many blades! If you are prone to ingrown hairs then you don’t need 3 or more blades. More blades equal more passes causing the hair to fall beneath the skin and become ingrown. Plus, more blading the skin leads to micro cuts through which bacteria is more likely to enter and this leads to razor burn. 3. DO NOT TAKE PREP TIME IN VAIN! Wash or steam the skin for 2 to 3 minutes with warm water. Then apply the shaving cream leaving it on for at least 2 minutes to really soften the hair. 4. THOU SHALT NOT GO AGAINST THE GRAIN! Shaving against the grain (upwards) may get you a closer shave but doing so also increases ingrowns. Shave in the direction of hair growth…it’s usually downwards. Confirm this by doing a face/ body inspection to see which way your hair grows. 5. THOU SHALT NOT PRESS! Avoid pressing too hard on the skin with the blade. If you follow STEP #3, then a gliding, light touch is all you need. The hair stubble should literally fall away with little or no pressure from the blade. Pressing hard is the main cause of shaving irritation! Be gentle so as to prevent the hair from being cut so low that it falls beneath the top layer of skin. 6. THOU SHALT NOT PASS, PASS, PASS! Avoid too many quick passes with the blade. One pass per hairy area - going 1-2 inches downward at a time - will prevent ingrown hairs. Always shave like you might cause damage, not like you’re mowing the front lawn. 7. THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT OVER SHAVING! Avoid shaving too often. This rule is hard to follow, especially if you have to be beardless for your job…but if you are prone to ingrowns, try hair removal with electric clippers (the barber kind of clippers). The results are not super close but no one but you will know the difference. Provided your skin can handle these alternatives try waxing, depilatory, lasering or an epilator. 8. THOU SHALT NOT CLOG! Avoid using skin/pore clogging creams or lotions since they keep hairs from growing up. After a shave, keep your skin bare; let the tiny army breath, and allow those newly shaved, microscopic hairs to grow out just in time for the next shave. If your objective is smooth, bump-free skin following a shave or wax, then right after hair removal allow the skin to heal first. Promote healing by proper shaving techniques followed by 70% rubbing alcohol which kills any bacteria that may enter those micro cuts created from the shave and prevents the onset of razor burn. Sure your skin will be a little dry at first but this is a temporary tradeoff. Wait 2 hours then moisturize. 9. KEEP THY SMOOTH SKIN FREE! At least for the first day or two, try to avoid tight fitting clothing around the Adam’s apple (neck) and/or below the waistline region. Newly shaved hair follicles need room to grow up. 10. REMEMBER TO EXFOLIATE! Whether you shave, sugar, wax or epilate, not enough exfoliation to remove excess layers of skin can lead to ingrown hairs. There are two types: chemical exfoliation (AHA, BHAs) and physical exfoliation (beads, coffee scrubs, gloves, brushes). Physical exfoliators like the WIZKER brush have soft and firm bristles for the face, body, and sensitive skin. When you follow these 10 tips religiously, you’ll prevent razor bumps and ingrown hairs permanently!
I’ve never shaved my mustache or chin but I always trim it, only the neck and cheeks is what I shave completely off. I don’t know if I should shave completely or keep it growing. I just don’t like how it looks growing but also people look at me weird if I shave it completely. I don’t know what to do smh
Welp, guess I need to switch out my standard store brand shaving cream for shaving gel lol. Also apparently I’m like the only one making the mistake of doing long strokes instead of short strokes. Explains why there were always hairs clogging up my razor. I thought that was normal. I also tend to pass on aftershave, can’t ever find any good ones at the store.
I’ve used the shave gel. It’s gives a quality shave but the amount of gel isn’t worth the price. A tub of quality shaving soap is half the price and lasts easily 5x as long.
I buy real Italian shave soap for 15€ a kilo (TFS). Can't get much cheaper than that. Also a super simple formula with no additional chemicals that can cause irritation.
What mistakes have I been making ? All of them. But I won't anymore thanks to this tape. Also, all his life my grandfather shaved with a single double edge safety razor. Now I shave like him.
I'm a lucky man I've been shaving the correct way for years, the only thing I didn't know was the aftershaving which I don't think I need, the last time I got a rash I was sixteen.
Some people can and do shave against the grain with zero problems. In my 35 years of shaving, against the grain is the best and only way to shave my face.
It was wrong to even use a cartridge razor because it would cause redness on my face because it has 3 blades. I use a safety razor instead and it's very easy to cut. I also need aftershave and gel.
-Use Gillette Fusion or the best schick cartridge blade system -Use Edge Gel for sensitive skin - Try not to use anything Gillette brand (they hate males but they have the best products). -keep a cup of really hot h20 or have the sinking running on hot(wasteful tho) -your blade must be really hot to cut well so keep putting hot h2o on it -shave quickly (not thoroughly) with the grain. -lather up again, then shave slowly against the grain. After rinsing your face, put on Aveeno brand unscented lotion on your wet face and allow it to air dry. -
-use a good quality safety razor with a sharp blade or carbon steel straight razor. -use a quality shave soap such as Cella with a pre-shave soap or cream. -Try not to use anything Gillette brand. -wash and rinse face with hot water but rinse safety razor or straight with cold(!) water -your blade does not need to be hot, being hot can cause slight waves in the blade that can cause irritation and nicks (the thicker part of the blade is clamped but the thin edge is free, the temp differences cause tiny movement/waves/twisting along the edge). -shave at a comfortable pace with then across then against the grain always keeping the lather moist. After rinsing with hot water to get the lather off follow with a cold rinse then witch hazel, use a moisturiser or balm afterwards.
I particularly need help on number nine. For some odd reason I try all the other tips I can never get the perfect shape especially in the transition area especially at the chin And slightly below my cheeks as well.

But do you still use a DE razor to shave or have you switched to cartridge?
... moisturize after you shave I have used Nevia or something creamy like after you shave ... every time you shave ...
@@saygoodnight2010 it won’t dry your skin out if you moisturize right after with a face cream.
Alum blocks caused a nasty reaction for me. Bad luck I guess but I won’t use again.
Can we apply olive oil or coconut oil
According to this video I've apparently been a shaving master for years and never even knew it.
Thanks.
Witch hazel is the best aftershave
My mistake, shaving against the grain. Good idea only to do it after shaving with the grain. I usually do it against the grain because I like the deeper cut if the hair follicles.
Thanks for the video, this stuff no longer seems to be common knowledge
I was making all of these mistakes because no one showed me so i had to go with what i think but it turns out i was doing it entirely wrong. Quick question how often should we shave? anyways this video helps thank you for the tips
Great video thank you. I'm used to long stroke for saving time but it's a mistake.
Preshave oil is applied on a wet facet or before you wet your face?
Before shaving:
1. Prep your face with warm water
2. Use a brush with soap to prepare the skin (Let it sit for a minute or more)
3. Use a sharp and clean blade
During shave:
4. Let the blade do the work, Do not press down
5. Shave with the grain that pertains to the specific area of your face that you're shaving
6. Only stroke about 1.5 inches (Don't go all the way down your face as it clogs the razor)
7. Don't repeatedly shave over the same spot (IF you need to get a specific patch, apply more shaving cream before shaving that patch)
8. IF you need to, reapply shaving cream to the entire face and shave against the grain
After shaving:
9. Gently wash your face with a cleanser or exfoliating cleanser
10. Gently dry your face by patting it down with a towel
11. Use an alcohol-free aftershave while your face is still damp
My biggest problem area is right under my chin where both sides of my face meet..I can never get as close a shave as I want, I always feel some hair there even after going with and then against the grain..I can feel smooth as silk rubbing one way but then when I reach the other side I can feel the hair against the grain...drives me nuts..I've had a professional straight razor wet shave before too and even they couldn't get it as smooth as I want it so I've given it up as a lost cause for that part and just do the best I can.
thank you for your video, I asked my fiancee if I could shave him and thanks to you I know what I am supposed to do
One other thing to add, get an Alum Block, when, not if, you get cut or nicked, it stops the bleeding almost instantly.
Is that different from a stiptic stick, or is it two names for the same product? Because I already have a stiptic since I get a little clumsy with my double edge razor.
@@JaxMerrick maybe the same thing, the alum block is like a block of salt.
@@LTT.Official well, I finally looked it up, and a stiptic stick/pencil is just another form factor and name for an Alum Block. The Wikipedia page for "Antihemorrhagic" has a picture of the stiptic stick right above a picture of the Alum Block.
@@JaxMerrick the same thing just the pencils are somehow stronger.
How many times can you use a disposable razor ?
how much is the kit and where do yo get it
Barbaracell is actually a very good shaving cream. I use it when I don't have time to whip up a cream or shave soap .
That is bargain basement stuff. It’s so thin it gives zero protection.

Single blade safety razor, badger hair brush and I like Italian shave soap! No 5 blade BS razor, shave gel, definitely after a shower and a few drops of shave oil before.
I have never got a good shave, always look like a walking 5pm shadow. But, I haven't been doing many of the steps, either. Do you guys ship to Australia? I clicked on the link and it said US and Canada only..
It's never late to make changes.
Well as a teenager, I'm still new to shaving. Just started a few weeks ago. It's only my mom, sister, and me. So I was never taught how to by my dad or grandpa. I'm teaching my self.
Thanks guys very cool.
Welcome!
Hi Antonio, I have a question 🙋🏻♂️? ???
We all know there is a Unwritten Gentleman’s Code ; we would like you to make a Video about what this Unwritten Code might include, from point of view ?
🙏🏻 thank you so much for all the advice and hard work you and your team put in to create amazing content🤝
Thank you. I've recently grown a beard... from a middle schooler in Japan.
Apparently, a ton. My shave still comes out smooth tho :). I don’t use a brush. I apply shaving cream, from the can, and I shave in the shower. I use near hot water to for my beard then I massage the shaving cream, then I start to shave. Once I finish I, I finish with cold water 👌. After that I use After shave lotion 👌👌. Easy fast and always smooth
That’s pretty much how do it. Those fancy creams don’t last half as long, 3-5x the money, and take too long to lather on.
I'm almost ready to buy one of those wet/dry shaving things I saw being advertised on youtube because I'm just tired of the razor routine at this point.
I’ve been using face watch before any shave and then put the hot towel on my face,, is that ok or the pre shave oil is better ?
I've made a few of these. This is good to know
I feel so satisfied after watching this videos
Can I reuse a shave brush?
the 10 COMMANDMENTS for PREVENTING RAZOR BUMPS & INGROWN HAIRS
Hi, can you do the same for haircare?
Damn you look different fully shaved
Thanks for thé vidéo
I’ve never shaved my mustache or chin but I always trim it, only the neck and cheeks is what I shave completely off. I don’t know if I should shave completely or keep it growing. I just don’t like how it looks growing but also people look at me weird if I shave it completely. I don’t know what to do smh
You gotta make a men lifestyle playlist of this kind of helpful videos
This is a great video and just what I needed.
Double Edge Safety Razors are the best. Multi Blade razors can be a real pain.
"which of these mistakes have you been making?" all of them. Lmao
What mistakes have I been making ? All of them. But I won't anymore thanks to this tape. Also, all his life my grandfather shaved with a single double edge safety razor. Now I shave like him.
True I been doing it wrong I wanna do it Right
5:22 you missed a perfect chance to use the Home Alone after shave balm scene lol
Before I grew a beautiful beard I had been shaving against the grain for 20 years...... now I understand why I used to cut the hell out of my face.
Use can 3 blade tough beard hair...let foam sit several minutes..hack away..always hot water first.
I'm a lucky man I've been shaving the correct way for years, the only thing I didn't know was the aftershaving which I don't think I need, the last time I got a rash I was sixteen.
how to get rid of the beard or moustache shadow after the shave???
Some people can and do shave against the grain with zero problems. In my 35 years of shaving, against the grain is the best and only way to shave my face.
I shave against with every razor I have including my aggressive R41 with a feather blade in it. No problems at all.
Personally only use light oils no cream same principle
It was wrong to even use a cartridge razor because it would cause redness on my face because it has 3 blades. I use a safety razor instead and it's very easy to cut. I also need aftershave and gel.
I'm from India can I buy your products
Broken in Omega boar brush, Proraso sandalwood, Edwin Jager DE with Astra sp blades and Nivea aftershave. Done.
-Use Gillette Fusion or the best schick cartridge blade system
-Use Edge Gel for sensitive skin
- Try not to use anything Gillette brand (they hate males but they have the best products).
-keep a cup of really hot h20 or have the sinking running on hot(wasteful tho)
-your blade must be really hot to cut well so keep putting hot h2o on it
-shave quickly (not thoroughly) with the grain.
-wash and rinse face with hot water but rinse safety razor or straight with cold(!) water
-your blade does not need to be hot, being hot can cause slight waves in the blade that can cause irritation and nicks (the thicker part of the blade is clamped but the thin edge is free, the temp differences cause tiny movement/waves/twisting along the edge).
-shave at a comfortable pace with then across then against the grain always keeping the lather moist.
After rinsing with hot water to get the lather off follow with a cold rinse then witch hazel, use a moisturiser or balm afterwards.

I think I have done them all
I particularly need help on number nine. For some odd reason I try all the other tips I can never get the perfect shape especially in the transition area especially at the chin And slightly below my cheeks as well.
Always purchase Williams lectric shave
I use dove soap bar to shave... is that not good?😅
I shave every day. First along the grain, then against. Gillette Fusion Proshield...cartridge change every 1st of the month.
I absolutely can confirm these advices! And the cheapest way is to use granddads safety rasor with 3 cents per blade.
