    I had a nice full beard, but it was too bushy in front of my chin and near my lower lip. Today I bought a very basic, cheap Wahl beard trimmer, attached the clip-on that would trim the least (one of three plastic attachments to place over the blades), started trimming, and it almost shaved my beard off!! AAAAHH!! Ruined three months of beard growth. Pissed off, so I'm here.

    I used a number 4 when I wanted to cut my beard the same length everywhere and it was a lot shorter than I wanted it to be. I wasn't really thinking and I guess I was thinking it would be the length of the teeth on the guard. I grew my beard out for 11 months for the first time and really had no idea what I was doing. I realized in my mid-forties I still have a lot to learn when it comes to taking care of my own beard

    Another well explained video. Years ago I was trimming my beard with a Wahl Lithium Ion trimmer, and the guard actually popped off. I ended up shaving the whole thing and started over. Never used a Wahl trimmer again. I’m gonna grow my beard back out a little and always watch your videos for tips, although I may not try the no guard trim on the sides. @@beardsandbanjos fair enough. I have cancer, and am not as adept with the trimming as I once was. Though I haven't lost the will...!! But really... there should be a refernce guide of who's who in the beard trimming arena, so you'd be able to pick out a "Trimmer" to go get the work done. This hit or miss is not for me. And boy... talk about the "misses".
      Why not some beard trimming competition!?!?! For me, again, I have had very good luck doing it myself (with some exceptions, naturally) I did fine as long as I kept the guide number no more than say "4". But became more of a challege in the "8" range. Am now pushing for 10 to 12. THAT is when you need
      two sets of hands!! LOL I still get compliments, but not like I did at "4".

    Would trimming my beard against the grain with a 20mm technically be like trimming it to 10mm with the grain?

    • @beardsandbanjos
      @beardsandbanjos  11 місяців тому +2

      Not exactly. If you trim with a 10 mm with the grain, you could potentially have hairs that are infinitely long if they are tucked in close to your face. It's more of a hedge trimming technique and creating a barrier around your face instead of getting every hair the same length.

      Not really. Only if I was hunting down flyaways or some that I missed on the bottom edge. My beard is a little too curly for scissors only. If you have a really straight beard, you can get away with only using scissors like Greg Berzinsky does.

    About two years ago I was making a wheel chair ramp for my dog Max my beard got caught in the drill as I was driving in some eight inch screws. 1/2 drill folks, they don't stop on a dime. Their long winded, takes a bit to wind and a patch of hair doesn't stand a chance. My hand are shaking as I'm recalling that day. lol Boy oh boy. Well anyways I've just left thing alone pertty much for the last two years, and I look it. Beard needs trimmed and I can't trust anyone to trim it, including myself mainly. Pulled out the trimmers today, but can't do it. I'm in a heck of a jam. Shoot. Well so much for doing it today. Time to put the trimmers away and try another day. I just wont look in the mirror, again. Your video was good my problem is more mental I'm a thinking, oh and did I forget to say this mess on my face, my mom isn't to happy with. Thanks for the video

      Sometimes the numbers on the all in one dials may not correlated directly to mm, cm, or inches. Keep experimenting until you hit on what you like. You can always freehand and use a flat home to help you taper. Check out this video- ua-cam.com/video/5alJh3TFbZc/v-deo.html

      Once your beard get to a certain length, it will hang straight down instead of curving underneath your chin. Once it gets to this length, you are better off free handing and creating a defined bottom to your beard. Check out some of my trimming videos and you can see a couple of different techniques I use.

      For stubble, you should use an upwards motion with the trimmer to get all of the hair the same length. Once you get past the stubble phase to the scruff beard (around 2 weeks) you may consider using different guard lengths and have it a little shorter towards the top of your beard around your sideburns.

    • @beardsandbanjos
      @beardsandbanjos  2 роки тому

      Great question. Most do have a small gap to prevent cutting your skin. I believe that gap varies slightly for different brands. Sometimes barbers will modify their clippers and "zero gap" them so they can make designs or get as close to the skin as possible. Brio actually sells a Zero Blade attachment that eliminates the 1 mm gap. It's usually sold separately and you cant use the guard attachments at the same time. Let me know if you have any more questions.
