Alfa Giulia 2.0 400hp Dyno and Drag Strip Eurocompulsion

  • Let's take the 400 horsepower Eurocompulsion Giulia to a real drag strip with an NHRA timing system and see just how quick it is.
    I'll also go over every single performance modification on the car, there are no secrets here. If you want a 400hp Giulia, I think this is the only proven way to set it up.
    I think that at the time of this posting that this is the fastest modern Giulia with a 2.0 multiair engine ever to run down the drag strip. I could be wrong and I'm offering 1000 bucks to anyone who can prove they have one that's faster, details are of course in the video.
    If you want to claim the prize please send an email to gregs (then part of the channel name) airplanes at geemail. Any other way of contacting me will be disqualifying. I can't keep up with comments on this channel, and sometimes youtube puts them into their "held for review" section and I never even see them.
    All products on this car came from shopeurocompulsion.net/

    All the performance products on this car can be found at shopeurocompulsion.net/ . I feel it's important to point out that this car is set up with publicly available performance parts from Eurocompulsion. No vaporware, no experimental stuff that won't ever be sold to the public. Nothing on ragged edge of blowing up that only works a few times, all actual products that can be purchased and are proven to be reliable. cont:
    Update, not one single person has provided proof of even a sub 13 second drag strip 1/4 mile time for one of these cars, let alone a car faster than mine. A few commenters are claiming big horsepower numbers, but can't back it up.

    You must be feeling much better/pretty much recovered from the surgery. Impressive results with the Giulia, says the old, retired street & drag racer. Your car would blow the doors off my '67 Formula 'S' Barracuda (273 V-8, Carter AFB carburetor, 4-speed stick, 3:55 limited-slip) - and all the Camaros and Firebirds I beat with the 'Cuda. 15.3 and 89.7 mph was the best track time I remember, so mid-12s and 114+mph invites envy in my 23-year-old self. Alas, that was more than half a century ago. The 'Cuda was absolutely stock, and I also remember that it would (and often did, with my heavy right foot back then) return an abysmal 9 mpg. Like your aircraft videos, this Giulia video is , as usual, well done. Lots of technical stuff phrased so ordinary non-engineers understand it.

      @@dereksilk5281is it? I mean,not to argue, perhaps I missed new results and so on, and obviously the most appealing thing about this is that it comes as a ready to go kit,and obviously once other people buy that and further modify,their car will be faster than this - but checking that channel, the best I found was 12.40,which is 1/100s slower, at 112mph and not done at a dragstrip but on an app. Now Gregs car did 12.39 at 115mph at the strip. Which in my book counts as "the faster car",especially looking at the trap speeds.

    I love this stuff Greg. Very cool effort you made here. I blunt force trauma the dragstrip to low 11s with a blown 2014 Mustang GT myself but, this car you've made is really interesting and unusual. I don't really agree with the way you link ranges of ET and 60 foots. I've seen 1000 horse cars do 2 second 60s. It comes down to how well prepped it is to do 60'. The first 60 feet are really make or break. 2 second sixties down to 1.5 will cut a around a second off the ET by the end of the quarter.

    • @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles
      @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles  Рік тому +2

      It's a bit more complicated with the Giulia 2.0 because it uses a turbo that rotates in the opposite direction of almost every other car out there. The biggest complication is in upgrading the turbine side. When we started on our upgraded turbo project there were no, and I mean literally no bigger than stock turbines that rotated in the correct direction and would fit into the stock turbo housing (the ones that were out there were way too big to fit). Thus, we had the turbine we used in our upgraded turbo specifically made, this took time, but I think it worked out really well. You might notice that many of the other turbos for this car either use the stock turbine or "clip" the turbine. That's the reason why, it's the reverse rotation issue, there just aren't a lot of choices out there.
      I think we have excellent results, strong power through the range, good response, and easy installation. Most of the improvement is above 2500 rpm. My point is that this wasn't an off the shelf turbo, far from it. It's specifically made for this application. As for choices, yes, we only offer one. There are some limitations here, not only because of the "reverse" rotation but also because the exhaust manifold is largely cast into the head, so that's a limiting factor as well.

      @Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles you do get most of the e85 benefits as low as 40%. Lower than 40% and it starts to become less useful. It's definitely something to consider if you want everything out of the motor for performance.
      Are those 2.0s direct injection only? That was always a big problem and why I had to mix 91 and e85 to get an e47 blend. I couldn't physically get enough fuel into the cylinders with the cobalt. It was direct injection only and the pulse window was far too short... even at full duty cycle. In the case of the Giulia we offer a stand alone additional heat exchanger. You can't locate it where the Stelvio does because of the brake cooling duct, and you certainly can't put it behind the radiator, that would make it put heat into the coolant.

    I always thought the 2.0 found in the Giulia and Stelvio was missing a more powerful trim. Rumours are they had a plan for a 350hp motor with 2 turbos but they dropped the idea when they convinced themselves there would be little market for it. The same people took 5 years to realise Italy needed a 250hp version not to incur in the extra taxes. Go figure.

A Quad will beat it nine out of ten times, but if you line the two cars up at the dragstrip and the Quad driver has a bad launch and my car has a good one, they are close enough so that it could go either way. One advantage of the souped up 2.0 is that it's much easier to maintain than the Quad. • @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles
      @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles  Рік тому +1

      Thanks. I haven't used it so I can't say much about it. I can say that with the stock ECU tune it won't do much if anything because the intercooler temperature is regulated by the ECU and it won't let it drop as much as it can anyway, so best case it will just run the intercooler pump less to maintain about the same target temperature. However on an ECU tuned car that's set up to run lowest possible temps it should work, in theory. Again I have to stress that I haven't tried it and there are a lot of performance parts on the market for these cars that don't work. I think that's a big part of the reason so many vendors out there don't publish drag strip times.

FCA did consider a 350hp version of the 2.0. In fact Eurocompulsion made a tune that was tested by FCA for this purpose. It passed the testing but never went forward due to what I think were marketing reasons. However it was worth doing for us because we got a lot of factory data we would not have been able to get otherwise. Of course we can provide a 350hp package today and the cost is reasonable. Intake, exhaust and tune gets you there.

      Good job. The owner is a really nice guy. He keeps a log of every run the car does. It's stock except that the two speed auto is now a three speed.

    WOW! Can that 2.0 be swapped into a 4C?

    • @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles

      It's not practical, we would have an easier time building a 400hp 4C engine.

      @@GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles Thanks - I just thought the increased displacement would give a noticable in torque off the line... Is there a difference in the redlines of the two engines?

      The 4C engine revs higher, it already has a top tier engine.

    If only the giulia came in a manual. That car needs an honest to god three pedal box. I would have upgraded to it from my E46

      I hear you loud and clear. However the manual gearbox Giulia isn't sold in the US, only outside of the US. Sadly over here our youngsters don't even want to steer, they certainly don't want to shift.

      I'm not sure I'm understanding your question. I put up at least six quarter mile times in my video. All from my car in this same configuration over a two day period. It runs mid 12's easily. If you are asking what a stock 2018 does, the U.S. spec 280hp version does about 13.8 to 13.9. The best magazine time is 13.6, but most of the others are in the high 13s. The slowest I have seen from a magazine is 14.1.

      All the products are at eurocompulsion.net . As pricing changes from time to time, I'm not going to add it up and put it in a post because 6 months from now someone will call and say I quoted some lower price.
