Thank you for the detailed and honest review! I have the A123 and B523 and still have some C922 and even A122 and and stilling looking for a C923. I really enjoy ECBP in general and found C922 the best of 2022, and understand everyone agrees the C923 is the best of 2023 (and maybe the best BP overall of the entire year). So it sounds like the A124 is a pass at the usual $76 I have been paying. There are excellent alternative choices for 10-year BP whiskies in San Antonio, TX in the $55-65 price range.
IMO, I wouldn't pass on this at $76. It's a buy for me, and absolutely nothing to shake a stick at. It's still a fantastic whiskey. Everything can't and won't be A123 or C923. This is still a very nice BP bourbon. Cheers 🥃

I know that I'll grab a bottle when they appear here, probably end of February judging from past experiences. I'm kind of an outlier on last year's releases, not super hyped up over C923 though it is very good, and apparently liking B523 much better than most. But, hey, preferences are unique for everyone, and bottom line is that I've never met an ECBP that I didn't like. Always enjoy your take on releases, and I'll be prepared for the profile differences. 10 years 9 months is getting to the range of store picks. It's only 2 months older and 5 proof points lower than the store pick I have open right now. It's still a decent deal for the money; but much less of a deal than it used to be.
Wouldn't that make it the same deal as Store Picks?
However, it's batch vs single barrel. Also, remember 10 yrs 6 months is the youngest whiskey in the blend.
I stocked up on C918 years ago and havent needed to buy any other releases, its good enough

@@iowafishguy9791 It is different from previous batches to me. More spice forward. I get hazelnut and raisin. It finishes peppery and dry. I did not get much molasses, maple or vanilla like previous batches. It is different, but still good. 🥃
I find it odd that folks use C923 to measure A124. Hell, lower proof and age only showcase what HH is capable of. Personally, I'm all for the age variations. B523 held its own, and it was some good stuff after it had a few months to open up.

As far as comparing its only because tge A124 was following up C923 that we compare, we understand there will be differences a d it's interesting to see what they release and how each batch sets up for the next release. I wish you had the B521 batch to compare it too. That was considered one of the “bad” batches at 118 proof.
This one is by no means bad, it juat at this point feels like middle of the road and a solid sipping ECBP. Cheers 🥃

The bourbon whisky scene is producing too many of these special releases at higher prices and hype.. is it worth it?? nope, these are going to be allocated and at secondary prices, not worth 300$ when there are already plenty of on the shelf 10yr old on the shelves for 50-60$

Common issue for spirits due to demand and limited releases
...not at barrel proof. Mostly at 90 proof and 100 proof.
I'd still say at $75 this is still an incredible deal, and remember 10 years 9 months is the youngest whiskey in this batch. You're going to potentially get a slight different profile frkm a single barrel. It's been years now and you really don't see much of a mark up on secondary. Also not many barrel proof bourbons at 10+ years for $50 or $60. If you find them buy them. This is released 3 times a year and everyone knows they're coming and with anticipation. I respect your opinion though. Cheers 🥃
