I did a blind of ECBP A124 against all the 2023 releases and my final ranking was C923>A123>A124>B123. So this newest batch was sort of middle of the road for me as far as ECBP releases go.
GREAT timing! I just bought both of these bottles this past week. I have only opened the Larceny ... very nice for the price point. Looking forward to the EC. Maybe today I am smoking some baby backs.
Our local shop finally got the A124 and I snagged it today! I like it! Definitely oaky, some good vanilla sweetness. 119 proof is a good proof point IMO
Great show, i like the both but lean more to ECBP. I will have to pick up the LBP A124 soon so i can blind it as well. Thanks for the flavor profiles on these.
Happy Monday gentlemen! Picked up an Isaac Bowman Port Finished and a Ben Holladay Soft Red Wheat Bottled-in-Bond last week. Once I acquire a couple more I'm gonna blind them all. Haven't even cracked the bottles yet. ECBP A124 and ECTB just dropped allocated this last week in Ohio.
I love those 2 bottles. Opened them up yet? I haven't had the ECBP A124 but I was not impressed with the toasted. I'm from MO so I may be partial to the Holladay.
@@mattschmitt9924 Holladay is solid. Love the Isaac Bowman. I also acquired an EC Toasted, it's probably my favorite bottle. Toasted profile seems to really hit my palate.
Right there with you Kurt. I love the Elijah Craig Barrel Proofs and have yet to find a Larceny Barrel release I enjoy. I'm also a huge Wild Turkey fan. So it has to be a similar pallet type thing.
I've got both the A barrel ECBP and the Larceny BP. Both hit differently but I noticed after a week of opening the ECBP it blossomed and he Larceny BP was equally good. Spot on with your reviews.
I've been really impressed with the last couple Larceny BP releases. We just gor the A124 releases a couple weeks ago. I thought this ECBP was a little bit off profile. More of a butterscotch than the traditional cherry cola. I do think I prefer the a little lower proofed ECBPs. I've recently blended down a few EC private barrels with the EX small batch to around 115 and they are fantastic. You lose that big in your face proof blast and end up with a more chocolate and cherry sweet pour.
I am with Trent on Larceny, it is exactly how I feel about it. I do have the B523 batch. It is just delicious and the finish is what I am looking for in a Bourbon.
@@mattthomas291 Awesome! The grocery store near me has 3 cases of B523 and I was hesitant because I hadn't seen a comment on it. Thanks for the heads up!
I really liked my Larceny B523. I just got an ECBP A124 and it's good, but different than other ECBPs I've had. I get an almost buttered popcorn finish on it.
Thank you for a great comparison of these barrels, I like EC BP and scored a A124 bottle. I also was lucky enough to get a C923 bottle and thought that was one of the best EC bottles I have had. Can not wait to crack this new bottle and see how it fares. Thank you both for your videos and cheers!
I just bought these Friday! I actually like the EC A124 a little better than the EC C923. Most people are the opposite since its lower proof and not as long aged but not me; I'd like to see a blind comparing the various EC expressions. To each his own. Like Larceny, too, but generally prefer the EC. I bought my bottles at Kroger, Larceny for around $60 and EC $85. Thanks for the video, once again, appreciate the honest reviews!
Texas here, we're usually pretty late to the party but I have already picked up (and gifted) an ECBP A124. It was alright but too earthy for me, but my friend loved it so I donated it to his bar.
I’m 99% sure you did a video with Larceny b593, because I went out and bought one because you guys said it was good. Immediately bought another! I could not get a EC C923, but got a b523 and I am really enjoying that! I may pass on these two for now. I am very grateful for this channel, so far you have not steered me wrong, and this is the only bourbon channel I watch , always a good laugh!
I had the ECBP after a Rebel Cask strength. The BP has a delicious first note and then falls off for me. That Rebel Cask store pick was a gift that kept on giving.
I enjoy the regular Larceny and am looking forward to picking up the A124. I haven’t had any of their barrel proofs so should be a good one. I picked up a barrel proof Jeptha Creed this weekend and really enjoyed it.
I can’t get enough of the larceny C923. Would love to see you guys do a side-by-side with several different batches. The A124 was no comparison to the. C923 for me. Oh my God

Larceny is just ok for me. I keep 1 or 2 of them on bar but don’t worry about getting the batches just replace when a bottle is empty. The ECBP I tend to have 6-10 between the a,b,c and store picks. I wait to see what batches may just ok and skip those so rarely get all 3 of the yearly releases.

I got mine first week of February. Larceny wins this round of the A's. I paid $62 for the larceny and EG i paid $72 C923 and B523 in the top 5 of Fred's top 100..
I like both larceny and Elijah Craig normal proof. I will not by the higher proofs. The highest proof I like, and drink is Russell's single barrel with ice. My wife and I, each bought full proof 1792 at the distillery it is a bit hard to drink. We do have a 45 ml night cap most every night, as we are in good health and in our 70's, it may be good for us. I really like your channel.
Larceny is the clear winner for me. The EC A124 has a funk thats ok, but I'm not in love with on that one. The Larceny is a great bottle. I wish I got two.
Florida Panhandle, we never get anything, never ever, especially allocated whiskeys of any kind. It truly sucks down here. I drink vicariously with you guys. 😅
all the 23's from larceny were great! a123 and b523 i liked more than the rest , passed on a 124 ecbp couple days ago bc the 119 proof as i havea 129proofer single barrel
I have liked the last 4 Larceny BP’s. A124 is a slightly different profile than previous releases. All EC BP’s are good; some are just better than others. Everyone is so wrapped up in age and proof. EC BP C923 was my least favorite of the 2023 releases. Drank hot and had a bitter finish. 🥃
I've only been really sipping whiskey for a lil over a year and I've really noticed just how much the flavors can change depending on how and when you drink it 🤯
The Larceny is much more flavorful, wether you like those flavors is up to your taste buds. Got a lot more mild taste from the Elijah Craig but they were interesting atleast. If you can handle the heat, Larceny was my winner
I keep telling myself I don't need every release of these, but I keep hunting/buying them. I have ECBP A124 ordered and will undoubtedly get the LBP if I can find it.
I love LBP and am very happy YT seems to dislike it. I've don't like EC or ECBP so it always makes me happy to know people aren't buying up my favorites due to tater FOMO. Trenton and I may disagree on malt but he is my guy for rye and wheat
A Heath bar would give you a chocolate and toffee combo. I have not had the A124 of either, hoping to get some ECBP. For last year the ECBP A123 was my favorite for all 2023 releases
Forgot which whiskytuber said that the Larceny A124 went 180 degrees from earlier ones in that they used to be sweet and this one is VERY spice forward. IDK because I still haven't tried any of these or the ECBP's. I will at some point.
Just to clarify do you literally leave the top off of the whiskey to let it air out or do you just open up when you get home and put the cap back on Hope this isn't a stupid question but I'm pretty sure I heard Kurt say he leaves a bottle open overnight with the cap off Love your channel and love being a subscriber
I usually love them both, but my gut tells me I'll like the Larceny BP better for the A124 release. Haven't seen them around here in NY yet, but we'll see!
The best from last year in LBP were the B and C batches (FM top 5) I think the B523 was the best. And C922 was supposedly the first real heavy hitter…would love to see just a blind of recent Larceny BP👍
Because of how difficult it was to finally get an Elijah Craig c923 I'm happy to pass on this one and go to other brands since it doesn't measure up by almost all reviews. I've found Larceny to be more consistent and worth it.
Yeah I probably won't be hunting either of these down. If I happen to see them at MSRP I'll probably pick them up, but not hunting them down at all like I did for ECBP C923.
I have regular Larency I got for $25 and $5 rebate so $20 after rebate and it is the worst bourbon I've tasted so far because it has a bad aftertaste to me. I'm a newbie but I agree with Kurt. I've seen a few others on UA-cam that just don't like it. So I'm not inclined to even try the Larency barrel proof at $65.
Love Larceny BP too but don't have the A124 yet. I love the B523, but the C923 a little less. It doesn't surprise me that Trenton likes Larceny since we seem to have similar tastes. I'm guessing he would like the Still Austin Cask Strength because it is currently my favorite. And its $50 and easy to find In Minnesota anyway... I found that you did try the Still Austin Cask Strength about 10 months ago.
I’ve never had the Larceny BP but I’ve had the standard Larceny and that’s exactly how I felt about the finish on that. It was very peppery and I was not a fan of it.
I still have some A123 and B523 ECBP, never saw the first bottle of C923 (go figure) and now that I’ve made up my mind to skip A124 it’ll probably be everywhere. More for others I guess.
I do think you guys are unfairly comparing to 923. I actually had both recently and the only thing c923 had over a124 for me was the easier drinking higher proof point. I thought the a124 had more going on for it. Super nutty and chocolatey with a pleasant oaky finish. Much bolder flavor than c923 I thought
I enjoy them both. Releases always seem to give an edge to one or the other. I have the EC124 but haven’t cracked it open. Passed on the Larceny this time. Trent likes the wheaters, so has he tried the Bernheim Barrel Proof editions? I have their B923 @120.4 proof. It’s pretty tasty.
Yesterday I walked into a random store and found both Larceny C922 and C923, bought both for $56 each! I have only ever seen ECBP once and today in my usual store they had both EC and Larceny A124. I passed on both because I just bought the others. Did I make the right call?

Yeah I probably won't be hunting either of these down. If I happen to see them at MSRP I'll probably pick them up, but not hunting them down at all like I did for ECBP C923.
That’s funny I just bought both these last weekend!!! Alabama does a ABC drop so we are restricted.
S FL never got C923 for the most part. Lots of stores still have B523 on the shelves.
Larceny’s usually my preference over Elijah Craig.
Agreed. For me, it’s no competition. Elijah Craig is just too light for me.
Larceny C923 is a bottle worth $100 any day of the week. If A124 is the same I suspect we might start seeing Larceny become allocated lol.
@@lesswatt fortunately Larceny BP products are very tasty. I agree about their regular 92 proof, not very good to me
@@lesswattyou cannot really compare their regular w barrel proof
I'm in Florida and I'm still waiting for my Elisha Craig 12 year barrel proof. And it's March 1st
Just got it here in PA on the 8th.. was hesitant to purchase because of the reviews but I took the plunge and like it a lot. Spicy as heck but good!
So what is a "baking spice" note? Seems generic and I can't place what it is.
I think it's largely nutmeg, with some cinnamon and sugar. That's at least how I and friends describe it. 🤷♂️
I wish it were easier to find where I am (VA), but yeah, that Still Austin is so, sooo good!
I love them both but feel they are both very different to my pallet. Larceny is my slight preference.
I recently tried both A124’s and didn’t really care for either of them. I preferred the C923 versions of both.
So Trenton left the bottles in the garage and was worried about cat dander-were the bottles left open? Great review, dander and all. 😂
My elijah craig bottles got cat hair all over it LOL welcome to the club
I’ve never had the Larceny BP but I’ve had the standard Larceny and that’s exactly how I felt about the finish on that. It was very peppery and I was not a fan of it.
I still have some A123 and B523 ECBP, never saw the first bottle of C923 (go figure) and now that I’ve made up my mind to skip A124 it’ll probably be everywhere. More for others I guess.
That Larceny smashes the Elijah Craig
Just curious but has Kurt ever said he really enjoyed a wheater other then a Makers product?
Pappy lol
Also... I just got a bottle of Knob Creek 12 years... and I was pleasantly surprised. Very dark and rich...100 proof... a great pour for me.
As far as I know, my area hasn’t even seen the Larceny C923 yet
