I think Taker vs HBK was rated so highly because it was the first time you had the multiple false finishes, and I think that's why upon first viewing live it was really exciting every near fall because you had no idea what was gonna happen. Going back and watching it again though, knowing Taker wins, the multiple kickouts of finishers don't have as much impact so not a huge rewatchibility factor. The match wasn't perfect as there was a few botches and maybe the match wasn't as long as it needed to be but the in ring action was good. Think it's a stretch to say "greatest Wrestlemania match of all time" though, especially considering there was no real story with the match other than these two have never faced at Wrestlemania, furthermore, thie match only happened because Shawn beat Vladimir Kozlov for a chance to face Taker at Mania. Honestly too while the in ring action was good, it wasn't outstanding or anything. It was just good solid wrestling, right hands, chops, and multiple signatures and finishers isn't enough for me to consider a match "the greatest Wrestlemania match of all time" it was solid 7/10 I'd say. Best moments that make this match memorable is the camera man spot, and Undertaker catching Shawn at the end
HHH & Orton have used HBK/Taker as an excuse for their match receiving no heat from the crowd to which I don't believe in that theory at all.
The Triple Threat match was able to gain somewhat of a decent response from a crowd that was still recovering from the epic match.
After that, Steve Austin held his 5-minute beer bash in which 70,000+ people were on their feet having a great, enjoyable time so CLEARLY the crowd isn't "dead".
Then HHH/Orton began and the crowd immediately sat down and watched nonchalantly.
There are many reasons why HHH/Orton failed to get a crowd response, but I don't think that HBK/Taker is one of them.
What happened to you making videos
Jose Aguilera College became my main priority. I want to produce videos but I have very little time to do so. When the WWE Network launched, a copyright purge occurred and some of my videos were deleted so I created 2 new spin-off channels in order to distinguish between both podcasts and avoid the collapse of an entire channel. When I'm available, I'll see if I can upload some.
According to CM Punk, HE didn't even know that they were going to put the MitB on him, and thought he'd be the first guy to lose it.
The reason I find this WM disappointing was cause it was the 25th anniversary and it was a show that really needed to deliver in a HUGE way. But unfortunately it failed. This WrestleMania should've delivered big like 3, 17,and 19 did. In fact even bigger than any other WrestleMania. Taker vs HBK is only reason to watch this show. IMO THE BEST match ever in wrestling history! It was magic!
Dat Kid Rock concert. Seriously, Kid Rock was hip in 1999-2000. The fact that WWE trotted him out in 2008 shows how slow they were to get with the times.
Whenever I look at WM 25 I always think to myself that it could of been so good and yet....WWE screwed it up.
I actually had the privilege and honor to attend WM 25 and witness one of the greatest wrestling matches of all time. The match between undertaker and hbk is an experience that I will never forget. Holy shit, was I fucking tired after that match with all of the screaming, the chanting and the jumping out of my seat... I kid you not, I almost lost complete consciousness after that match. And I was not the only one. after that match almost 100% of the people in attendance were to tired to give a crap about the last 2 matches and that was really disappointing. On my way to the parking lot the only thing people were talking about was the undertaker vs hbk match
The booking sucked! How can they not make a classic match out of a Hardy vs Hardy in Wrestlemania?

OTRSCentral Biggest mistake was for them to put Big Show into the WHC match. It should have been Cena vs Edge. It would be much better for WrestleMania.
It makes me sick when I remember that I live in a world where a triple threat match involving The Big Show was booked above Michaels vs Taker I.
Seven years later and I still don't understand why Orton didn't go over HHH. Considering he won the belt a month later anyway, the only possible reason I can think of was HHH threw a paddy backstage about the prospect of jobbing in his 5th consecutive Mania. WWE haven't had a heel more over in the last 10 years than Orton was at that precise point in time. I was one of the few who was perfectly ok with it main eventing on the sole premise of Orton getting that special "heel closes out Mania" moment. As an Orton mark I still feel robbed by that, that was his career defining match in the making and the image it left me was Orton lying backwards between the bottom and middle ropes looking half dead like a junkie in the gutter after receiving the punt.
Every WWE fan has that moment they can pin point where the spell began to wear off. That was mine.
Triple H always fucks up WrestleManias.
WM16: He went over the Rock when he shouldn't have.
WM17: He loses to Undertaker.
WM18: He main events over Rock and Hogan. He beats Jericho for the Undisputed Title, Jericho goes on to jobbing to a rookie John Cena a couple months later, he get stuck in the mid-card and never touches another World Title again for another 6 years.
WM19: LOL do I really need to explain this one.
WM20: He loses to Benoit.
WM21: He loses to Batista.
WM22: Edge had all this momentum at the start of the year as the top heel only to get the rug pulled out from under him because The Kings of Kings wanted his throne back.
WM23: He missed this one but he was supposed to face Cena AGAIN but this time he would get his win back and win the WWE Title.
WM24: He inserted himself into what SHOULD'VE been Cena and Orton's blow off match to their feud and as a result we got a forgettable Triple Threat match.
WM25: Not only was it stupid to not make this a No DQ match, no Legacy interference, no nothing. Triple H beats Orton when Orton should've went over. It's no surprise that this feud lost steam after this.
WM26: He beats Sheamus for no reason at all.
WM27: Undertaker either should've faced Cena or they should've worked something out to have Jericho come back temporarily and face Taker. They NEVER mention the WM17 match until the next night on RAW.
WM28: Great match but did we really need to see it again?
WM29: Triple H just HAD to get one over on Brock. The whole "if Triple H loses, he must retire" was stupid and predictable.
WM30: He loses to Daniel Bryan in a match that would've been avoidable had WWE not been stubborn jackasses over Daniel Bryan's popularity and had him win the Rumble.
WM31: He beats Sting for no fucking reason.
WM32: He loses to Roman Reigns in a match that no one wanted to see.
Triple H's WrestleMania record is fascinating. As you deduced there, every single year since the turn of the century the matches he's been booked in (in a lot of cases matches he booked himself in) whether face or heel the stories and momentum his opponents have always had at the time have dictated that he lose every single one. But obviously he can't lose them all, he is still Triple H at the end of the day.
The Orton one specifically hit me hard just because I'm a massive mark for the guy. But he and the company down the years at WM have booked him into situations where he has to derail a few guys just to avoid his own WM record being abysmal.

LMAO, I remember when WWE had UA-cam removing videos of people who hated this show. But this WrestleMania was garbage and it's a shame because the build up leading into this show was so awesome and WWE hasn't had a RTWM as good as this one since.
If anybody ever wanted a show that defined "style over substance", then WM25 is that show.

I had a bunch of friends over to watch WM25. When I ask them what they remember from this show, they remember 3 things. Taker vs HBK, Steamboat tearing the house down, and JBL losing in 15 seconds or whatever. Pretty shitty ppv.
Matchcard structure is as underrated aspec. At WM23 Batista and Taker was the 4th match of the night and that stole the thunder for that show to me.

the greatest wrestling match of all time happened at this wm in hbk vs taker. it still holds up to this day. this wm was really underrated. all the matches delivered for me but its hated for its main event. every rivalry was insane. larger than life heels like orton, edge, jericho, jbl, even matt hardy was becoming a good heel. i will never forget this wm no matter how many people hate it just because main event didnt deliver
While I understand your logic when you say that taker is the real 'Mr. Wrestlemania', I still don't understand why you would begrudge Michaels being given the moniker.
If you pick out the five best Wrestlemania matches of all time, you could arguably have Michaels in all of them. Yes, there are matches you could put in there that don't but that's subjective. Yes, you can argue that the streak has more significance. I still think you could make a coherent argument that Michaels has had the five best matches in Wrestlemania history, so why shit on it so much? You can disagree, obviously, but why be so hostile against the idea?

Austin/Bret is still the greatest WM match for me, mostly because of its historical importance as well as its quality. HBK/Taker is definitely a close second though.
I remember this mania having reneeally good buildup on both raw and smackdown and then the show ended up blowing.
The biggest thing I hated about WM25 was that the Tag-Team Championship Unification match pitting The Miz and John Morrison against Carlito and Primo Colon - which *WAS* advertised as being part of the main card - got bumped to DVD-exclusive dark match status because Kid Cunt wanted the extra time for his concert.
And not a lot of people know that.
WM 25 could have been one of the greatest of all time but the main event SUCKED ass.
WrestleMania 30 is going to be much better than the cluster fuck that was the 25th edition of WrestleMania. The card is much better and the matches all have more potential.

Too all those wondering what will happen to Daniel Bryan if he gets buried at Mania 30 by losing too HHH. Ask Randy Orton. This pissed me off so damn much I stopped watching wrestling in 2009. Randy was a badass heel we were missing in the company. He looked like a dominate heel, but honestly the best part for me was it looked like Randy would finally beat freaking HHH in a one on one match, and be that dominate freaking heel for the damn company, but NO GOD had to bury Orton win the freaking match. Orton's character was ruined after this. Hell Randy didn't even beat HHH for the freaking title the next month he pinned like Shane McMahon what the hell. How are we supposed to take Randy seriously after that he is just a dumb cookie cutter heel that needs all the help in the world. DAMN pissed me off so bad how much they ruined such a great character. Screw off. I hate this Wrestlemania so damn much. Kid Rock sucked ass, Matt and Jeff was ok but could have been great. HBK and Undertaker was amazing. This is easily my most hated Wrestlemania of all time.

i actually liked hbk vs undertaker at 26 a LITTLE bit more because of the story and the size of it and thats my fav match on WRESTLEMANIA HISTORY it and the 3 austin vs rock matches
This WrestleMania was like a bad football game with an amazing last-minute touchdown that seems to supercede the 59 minutes of terribleness
I started watching wrestling regularly around this time. I had watched some shows previously, but I didn't follow it. So this was the first WrestleMania I watched as a professional wrestling fan. Looking back, Christian coul've won MITB, cashed it in on Edge and have a really awesome feud. But we got the great CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy feud, so I guess some good came out of it. Matt vs Jeff was good, should've been given more time. Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels is my all-time favorite match, SHOULD'VE MAIN EVENTED. Mabye it's because this was my first WrestleMania, but I remember HHH vs Orton, it was a decent match, they told a good story, but they just shouldn't have main evented.
WM 25 was "meh". I always have a hard time watching it in 1 sitting (not because it was that wretched, it was long, dragged out, and boring most parts). The 3 Way for the WHC is a bit underrated to me, the match actually was better than it had any right to be considering how dumb the storyline was. HHH vs Orton was long.......really long......the match should have been NoDQ given the storyline (even HHH acknowledges it in his DVD this match was doomed). HBK vs Taker was.......well do I have to say it.
I actually think CM Punk winning MITB in 2009 was the right decision. Him winning in WM 24 was awful because WWE had no plan to booked him well for the start but given what CM Punk turned into in 2009 after cashing in on Jeff Hardy & and the whole SES run.......it became one of the best booking decisions of 2009

The only saving grace of 2009 was the CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy feud.And the Mysterio vs Jericho feud,let's just call it "The Summer of Smackdown" but besides that 2009 was a SHIT year,Raw was SHIT with the breakfast club hogging the WWE Title,& the celebrity GM shit,Hornswoggle being heavily pushed was shit
USHARDY definitely the only good things from 2009, i absolutely hated that celeb gm shit and hornswoggle getting a bigger push and that shit lasted for 2 years definitely the worst year in RAW history and i thought todays RAW wasn't good, every week I was debating on if that RAW was the worst in history and that got old pretty quick.

I hate they bumped off The Colons vs Morrison and Miz at this Mania. Why the fuck would you do that? We should of seen it on the main card and five years later we should of seen the WWE/World Title unification match at Mania XXX.

'Taker/Shawn should of been the main event of this show, Triple H vs Randy Orton was awful.
The only reason why Triple H won was because you had to send the fans home happy and have the face win the last match, but if HBK Taker main evented that wouldn't have been an issue. Just awful, this show was when the steady decline of WWE's product really started.
It was supposed to be Batista and Cena for the world Title but Batista got hurt so they had to delay it until a year later.

The Card Structure was really Terrible and i feel bad not only for Taker & Shawn because one of the Best Matches of all Time which should have been in the Main Event was not, but for Randy Orton too, the build up to the Triple H Match as you said Jeff, was really good. Like Hogan & Rock at WM X8, one of the best Matches of all time on that place on the Card, what does it say to us WWE?

I don't think Taker vs HBK not main eventing would have saved this show. It wasn't one of those matches that you had to put on last. Im not a card structure type person since really any match on any card save one or two can be a show stealer. Other than Taker vs HBK, you had a so-so at best Wrestlemania. The Orton/Triple H match was doomed from the start. It was the hottest, most emotional charged angle that people wanted to see. Yet they had to do it with a straight up wrestling match. That would be like Bret Hart vs Austin having a personal rivalry going into WM 13, and having a regular match.
The reason why punk was booed was not because he won the match. But because of how he was booked the previous year. He was booked so poorly in 2008 when he won money in the bank That the fans didn’t wanna see it again they felt like it was gonna be the same old bullshit with punk just being a useless midcard champion. Why should we cheer for him? The wwe is just gonna ruin him again that was the mindset of fans.
Honestly I love WM 26 taker vs hbk number 2 better. Then again it was the first and only Wrestlemania I went to so my opinion my be bias, but it actually main evented and was hbk's retirement match.

I don't really get the hate for this show. I know the main event sucked but MITB was pretty awesome. Hardy vs Hardy I thought was pretty good IMO. The World title match was a lot better than I thought. HBK vs Undertaker was awesome not much to say as so much has been said already. Overall I enjoyed it but the main event leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Not only was this show poorly timed but to me the booking of this show minus one or two matches was rediculous.

What annoyed me the most about this event and made it unbearable to sit through, besides all the other stupid shit that went on, was the fact that they shoved their "The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania" tagline down our throats from the time they first started promoting the event to the time it ended and even lingered on for a bit after it ended. Every single chance they got, everyone from the wrestlers to the commentators to the damn ring announcer constantly referred to it as "The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania". Not WrestleMania 25; not WrestleMania XXV; not even just simply WrestleMania. In fact, I can't remember a time before or since then when I was ever highly annoyed by just the name of an event. It was always "The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania" this or "The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania" that. You wanna talk about shoving and cramming things down people's throats, that fucking tagline was the ultimate example of what the WWE does best these days, unfortunately.

WM 25 one of the worst wrestlemanias ever if not the worst ever but it has the greatest match of all time hbk vs taker in my opinion, weird. This PPV had me cringing all through out. This Wrestlemania was a complete failure, it was only saved by the greatness of The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. The Tag team Unification as a Dark Match Oohh. I agree Jeff, CM Punk should not have won the Money in the Bank. The Dragon/Superfly/Hot Rod vs Jericho was good. Matt and Jeff Hardy had a great build up, but the Match was way to short and forgettable. The 3 Way as Hunter and Orton could not follow Taker & HBK.

Wm 25 was a dumpster fire. I couldn't believe how disappointed I was after watching everything and the first truly terrible wrestlemania I have seen since me watching from wrestlemania 14. It of course had one of the greatest matches in mania history if not the greatest, thank god for hbk and taker. I fucking hated this show so much I didn't even watch wm 26 fully till this day.
I decided not to go to this mania. Hbk/taker alone woulda been worth it though

Wrestlemania 25 was disappointing to be honest; but i agree taker vs hbk should have been the main event though the match was extremely overrated. Wrestlemania has not been good since Wrestlemania 23.
This show was not that bad was good good MITB ladder match you had a solid triple threat world title match with good moments, you have the greatest match in WM history. However I agree with on the Orton losing was terrible considering he won title at Backlash so God just did not want to lose at WM again what a pile of crap.

Shawn Michaels is from Texas Undertaker is from texas.. two of the greatest Legends the WWE have to offer been there since the Hogan Era.. Undertaker is undefeated @ this time .. that match had Main event written all over it... after taker in Michaels 1 no one gave 2 fucks about the rest of the show..
