    This was a bungle on par with the finish to Wrestlemania X-7. It actually may eclipse it, in terms of long-term detrimental impact.
    Honestly, the only person to blame here is 'Taker. It's not his first mistake politically. The way he completely and unprofessionally buried DDP (and more importantly, Kanyon, who could have been a full-on star) during the Invasion springs immediately to mind. But this was a mistake. A massive one. The story was unworthy of it. The build-up was unworthy. The man he dropped it to was unworthy. The reaction from the crowd was the exact opposite of what WWE intended. That tepid reaction really said it all.
    I was in attendance when Shawn Michaels retired at Wrestlemania right here in my hometown. THAT was a Wrestlemania moment worthy of a legend's retirement. That Undertaker did the honors was completely appropriate. Their feuds throughout both men's careers were legendary.
    Kane was the only right man for the job, in my opinion. From a storyline standpoint, from a physical standpoint (he'll be around another couple years, at least). Yet because of a ludicrous 'Korporate Kane' angle that is going exactly nowhere... we were robbed of a moment that would have simultaneously lent closure to the Undertaker's story arc with his 'brother', legitimized Kane's career in a way that has eluded him throughout his tenure, and sent the fans home secure in the knowledge that the streak had ended in a way that made actual sense.

    Thank you so much for this video. You nailed all the points.
    This match was painful to watch and even more painful to digest. It wasn't even shocking, it was anticlimactic, plain and simple.

    WM25 was the last time Taker looked strong. Since then, I've kind of felt sorry for him because he looked frail. Retiring at 20-0 would have been better to me. Still, it's his body and his decision. After the cheers stop, he is the one who has to live with the pain.

      ***** That what you said is the Central point for me. It would have been way better for the WWE if Cena had done it, the People should hate the decision that would be the right Heat to create. But not with a Guy who is for the most people a UFC and not a WWE guy, i can not belive the WWE had allowed this, terrible for the Business, Takers wish or not.

      *****
      I respect your Opinion, but Cena is getting booed nearly 10 Years. But the time was not right for me, Taker should have stopped at WM XXVIII. Brock is not the right guy for me, because as i said the most people worldwide consider him as a UFC guy now. And he does not want to be in the business full time, therefore i think it was bad for the business, he does not get the right heat, imagine how much hate Cena,HHH or an HBK get/gotten. LOL

  • @TheMTOmarReviews
    @TheMTOmarReviews 10 років тому +7

    Undertaker knew the clock was ticking on his career and him coming back for Mania was taking a real number on his body as is made apparent. It kinda seems like Taker was that girl who was so desperate for a date she would've said yes to anyone who accepted. He wanted HBK or HHH to break and they said no. It's a blessing Punk didn't break it since he ended up leaving anyway. Lesnar is a believable choice and the moment that it ended up giving you was brilliant but I do agree the match should've been a whole hell of a lot better. I feel as though the only reason the build wasn't better and the match sucked was to make us want the match to be over with due to the finish being "so obvious" and then bam the ref's hand goes down for three and we're all left flabbergasted.

    What would of been best was what Jim Ross said, have the World Champion John Cena face the Undertaker for the title at Wrestlemania 31 and have the Undertaker win, then the next night have the new champ The Undertaker come out and says "Thanks" towards Cena for a last match and finally retire, in which everyone wins.

    This is hands down the worst booking decision in the history of this company. I just don't understand how they can throw WrestleMania and their #1 attraction under the bus for some part time piece of shit like Lesnar who has disrespected the business more than anybody has. I really find this hard to believe that Taker signed off on this and if he did then shame on him too for tarnishing something so great and iconic. I'll always love Taker but this booking decision was a pile of shit and now I hope that next year's WrestleMania does the worst buyrate in history just to show them their stupidity. That company now has proven they deserve to go to hell in a handbasket because it is run by a bunch of dipshits that know nothing about wrestling

      Taker chose lesnar to beat him WWE didn't tell taker he had to lose to brock apparently taker always wanted the streak to end and he picked lesnar because in his mind he's the most believable person to do it...it wouldn't be fair for taker to keep wrestling when his body can't take it no more. Taker wanted brock to win and retire In peace we all may not agree with it but that's the way taker wanted to go out

    • @tmanuel44
      @tmanuel44 10 років тому +3

      Because if this was gong to be the match that ended the streak, they could have done a hell of a lot better building up a feud that culminated into a great match and a memorable send-off for a legend. None of that happened. The match felt unimportant and since it was potentially Taker's last match, it shouldn't have. I feel like the Brock wouldn't be getting as much heat if the match and feud were actually worthwhile. It was just a terrible way to end it.

  • @bistermungle7464
    @bistermungle7464 10 років тому +7

    Undertaker picked Lesnar because he's a fan of MMA and figured why not lose the most badass guy on the roster. He's a former UFC heavyweight champion for fucks sake. Who other guy in wrestling can do that? If you respect Taker then you should respect his opinion. And if he gave it to any of the younger guys then it could risk going to waste cause who knows if they will over in the future. And that's WWE's fault for holding the younger talent down for all these years.

    i disagree. 1: Since Lesnar returned and and lost to Cena he "put over" wrestling over UFC, so him winning doesnt really invalidate Taker's earlier opponents. 2: Taker's loss to Lesnar puts TOXIC heat on Lesnar and at the same time raises his profile. Remember when Lesnar's music would his when a Punk/Cena/3MB were in the ring and you knew some shit was going down? Well now it means much much more since its the guy that beat the unnbeaten. 3: Since he is a part timer, why not have him beat a fellow part timer?

  • @Decoy.Octopus
    @Decoy.Octopus 10 років тому +4

    OMG a 300+ pound MMA fighter in his mid-30's defeated a 50 year old fellow part-timer who's had multiple hip,knee,and shoulder surgeries in the last decade
    That is sooooooo unrealistic! :)

    • @drizzo4669

      We know its scripted. Its like watching Bruce Lee fight George St. Pierre. Yeah you gotta imagine GSP (5'11" 170lbs) is a better fighter but Bruce lee (5'7" 128 lbs) is a legend. In the octagon Id give it to GSP but in a movie Bruce Lee should be able to take on the entire UFC roster at once.
      Undertaker is the Bruce lee of wrestling, few men short of Hogan should stand a chance against him. Its not about size and strength, its about respect for the ones who paved the way for you.

    At the end of the day,it was Takers Call. It wasn't Vinces or Hunters. It was Takers. So don't blame Vince or the WWE for this clusterfuck if your mad you have to blame Taker. I think the Streak needed to end but a young guy like Roman Reigns or Bray Wyatt should of done it. Cause ending the iconic streak immediately cements your name in History. Brock had nothing to gain from this because hes already accomplished a lot. But a Reigns or Wyatt had everything to gain.

    • @JakkkeyBrahhh
      @JakkkeyBrahhh 10 років тому +1

      Yeah Brock hasn't done anything because winning King of the Ring and then winning the Undisputed Championship by beating a star like the rock within your first 4 months at the company is nothing. Or what about winning the Royal Rumble on your first appearance or how bouts main eventing your first ever Wrestlemania and you win the WWE title. Or what about how Brock originally was only in the company for 2 years and became a huge star!!! Or what about winning the UFC Heavyweight Championship on your 4th MMA fight. Yeah Couture was old but he wasn't a pushover. I don't like Brock breaking the streak but to say he's done nothing is dumb as hell.

    • @ToonGrimey
      @ToonGrimey 10 років тому +1

      Jakkey Brahh he has done nothing impressive. Ufc/mma doesn't count in WWE. Compare a Brock lesnar track list to a John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, HBK, Triple H etc who deserve that type of title n there arsenal. Brock is not worthy a sport to sport jumper. GTFOH!

    We were fortunate that Taker's Streak went on as long as it had. If they ended it, especially during the 2000s or prior to Mania 25, you would've seen a full scale riot. Once Taker hit 20 at Mania 28, it was an achievement bigger than the Streak itself. THE RECORD.

    this is the way I see it before watching the video
    #1 you have now stripped away something special from WM & future WM's
    #2 you given the streak a black eye , if taker remained undefeated say 25-0 at least in 30 or 50 years time you can look back and say there was that wrestler called the undertaker who has a streak for 20 years & was never beat , but now he has a lose to me its less special .
    #3 what was the point off the streak now that taker has a lose ? what was the point in taker being put over 21 times at WM ?? if he isn't going to be undefeated or make a new star ?
    #4 the streak was broke by a 34 past his prime part time wrestler who hasn't gotten a rub out off it , at least give it to someone young who you want to build & sell tickets for the next 10 years they could have waited till it was 24-0 and given it to a new star

    I say congratulations to taker! I think this was the best way to have done it if he were going to do it. Every one who follows taker knows he respects the hell out of real fighting and would of done it himself, if it made the money it dose now, back then. So letting a legitimate fighter like Brock, who has also proved himself in the wwe universe as a impressive athlete, beat him makes sense. But the most important thing is he did something that in this day of age of dirt sheet and lose lips was thought impossible in the wrestling business, he made everyone a mark. Not since Bruno Sammartino losing his belt to Ivan Koloff has there been such a reaction from an audience. Undertaker cemented his career in this moment and showed the world how lucky we were to lay witness to such an incredible performer. There is not a sole you can ever mention, outside of Bruno Sammartino, who can lay claim to such a feat. Forget legend, forget Mr. WrestleMania, Undertaker has become a legitimized wrestling god,after that match, who is second to NO ONE.

    I can imagine this was a hard video for you to do. But onto my point.
    When I think about it like this, I was a bit like you when I heard the news of Taker's streak being broken. I was in immediate shock at first. But at the same time, once I felt the shock wore off, I was saddened at this, because I knew from one standpoint that perhaps it was high time to stop being a kid holding onto those childish memories and that it was high time to grow up. I also knew that the Streak was coming to an end at some point in time, but I just didn't know when and where or who was going to be the one guy to end it. At the same time, I also think, "Why this fucker who hadn't been in the company for 10 years?" But ultimately, the decision was made. Doesn't mean we have to like it, but it is what it is and this is something we have to accept at some point in our lives.

    "Who in the fuck thought this was a good idea!?" ...I imagine Taker, so I'm not going to argue. The way I see it, Lesnar was simply in the right place at the right time to defeat an old and broken down Undertaker. I for one will take the moment as it is and give many thanks to the Undertaker for giving something so special.
    Saying that the streak ending ruined the rest of the show is a bit of an over-exaggeration. Sure the crowd was dead for the start of the main event, but by the time HHH came back out they quickly came back to life.

    Honestly,I don't see the problem because all people talk about online is how the WWE is so predictable but when they do something out of left field people still get pissed. I thought it was a surprise finish for a bad match. Plus, it's time for the WWE to move past the Undertaker streak storyline at WM and start a new tradition of some sort. Also, I don't think the crowd was to upset because by the end of the night 70,000 was doing the YES CHANT.I hate the Undertaker lost too but lets move forward. HOLLA AT YA BOY,PEACE!!!

So in a real life, Bryan shouldn't be champion because no way could he beat HHH, Batista, and Orton all in 1 night. Also Lesnar is a badass.......WHO ALREADY LOST TO 2 WRESTLERS........so once again how does this make any sense?

    I never understood this philosophy many fans upheld for many years about a young guy going over the streak as a way of using the mantel almost like an investment - had WWE's flippant attitude towards their World Titles over the past 10 years not told these people anything? Honours DON'T make stars, effective promotion and charisma of the wrestlers themselves are the only things that do. In this particular era of WWF/E, if the streak was going to be broken it HAD to be done by a fully established talent, because the irritating truth is that's all that matters to the company these days.
    Brock going over the streak in no way devalues what it represented, had circumstances panned out differently he'd have been the face of the company for many years. Whether the man was worthy of the rub is up for debate, but the on-screen character certainly was. The only other two individuals I can think of deserving of that victory were Cena and Kane (the latter purely for creative purposes).
    I do agree with you about the lack of build being unforgiveable - however strong his opponent is made to look going in Taker will always be the favourite at the start of a WM match (the shock factor would've remained regardless), it was in everyone's interests to make Brock look a million bucks during that build. Why he was made to look weak I'm still trying to fully understand.

    If the Undertaker had lost in the early days to Jake the Snake or Diesel or Kane it would had been Ok at the Time. If he had lost to Orton, Batista or Edge it would have elevated their Careers surely. If he had lost to Shawn at WM 25 or to Triple H at XXVIII with the End of an Era, they would have gotten real Heat (which they are used to) but i think the Wrestling Fans could accepted it. But with this Match to End it, it will leave a bad feeling thinking on his whole Career.

    The way i see it, ending the streak is like a Super Hero movie, were in the end, the Super Hero does not over come the villain,
    fact is in Spider-man, no matter how badly beaten he looks, no matter how down and out he is, in the end he finds a way to pull through and that's what Undertaker and The Streak represented.
    It was just a stupid decision, on Undertakers part, Vinces part who ever was involved. It should never of ended and certainly not to Brock Lesnar.

      OTRSCentral Come on dude, in a real fight between Lesner, HHH and Cena there is only one winner in that contest, he still beat HHH twice, and beat Cena in his first run in WWE, he is a former UFC champion, and a great pro wrestler, that seems a pretty legit guy there. It would have been nice to see him retire with the streak intact, or drop it to the write young guy, but it was his wishes, and as fans of Undertaker we should be happy that he got to end the streak to the guy he wanted to.

  • @DubStackG

    The Undertaker's streak ending was not so bad. I wasn't expecting for Brock to win either but the WWE and Taker did the right thing. First of all Taker was done and as long as the streak continued he would have to comeback. Second, Allowing Lesnar, the biggest bad ass in the WWE, to break the streak gives them a new guy to highlight in that featured "unbeatable" position at Mania. Last but not least all the best streaks are broken when you least expect them even though the possibility is there; consider Tyson taking a trip to Japan for a title bout as an undefeated unbeatable champion and returning knocked out after eating a two piece with a biscuit combo. Plus WrestleMania XXX was a turning point and meeting of the past, present, and future and one of the greatest and most memorable Mania's of all time.

    Schleggedaddy you talked about it in the pre WM show about how this "honor" could become a curse to the younger guys. How many people in the 18-39 year old demographic (still WWE's largest fan base regardless of what Kevin Dunn or any of the other WWE numb nuts might say) revolt against say a Bray Wyatt or Roman Reigns for taking away a piece of our childhood (I say that as a 31 year old). Brock is already a legit star from his MMA to his WWE days. Even if he isn't active and gives up wrestling in a year you still have Paul Heyman walking around to beat his chest about being the guy who designed the destruction of the streak.
    Could the build up have been better? Yes. But regardless of who you have break it you still would have had that stunned silence after the 3 count. I guarantee you it wouldn't have mattered if you had him lose it to Punk, HBK, HHH, or if he dropped it to Sting or Cena next year. I guarantee you that the next 30 sec-minute would have been dead air because of what it meant to so many people, myself included. I thought it added to not took away from it.
    DB, Orton, and Batista did an EXCELLENT job getting that crowd back into it. I thought they did everything they could and all 3 guys left everything they had out there in N'Orleans and was a damn good main event itself.
    Now if the rumors are true with Sting at 31 (still to be determined) the streak won't overshadow the story that could be told by these two old dogs coming together for a true once in a lifetime match (not that Cena/Rock bs). You get rid of the streak and then you can concentrate on what each of the great men have meant to our generation of sports wrestling fans and for one night/ one story we can pay our respects to both men for all the blood sweat and tears they have left in that ring to entertain us. That is IF Taker can go one more time.

  • @LouieV6
    @LouieV6 10 років тому +1

    It's not Brock's fault, I blame WWE booking, and i'll explain why. If indeed it was Taker's hand picked decision to have his streak retired by Brock, then it was WWE's creative job to make it feel like something special. Instead, what we got was 3 weeks of shit build up, two of which involved Taker kicking Brock's ass without breaking a sweat. How were we supposed to feel like this was anything special when we couldn't even perceive Brock as a viable threat? good build ups lead to memorable culminations, and we didn't get that! Taker's streak ending isn't the issue, it's how it was booked what comes into question. I don't blame Brock the least bit. The only bright spot in the midst of this Fiasco was Paul Heyman. God bless the man, he can read a few pages from a yellow book and i can sit down on a chair and listen for hours on end!

    OTRSCentral McMahon chose the idea that it's better to lose on your way out. One person close to situation said Vince talked Taker into losing. Another person, who would also be in the know, described it as Vince making the call and Taker agreeing, and that he wasn't talked into doing something he didn't want to do. Losing wasn't Taker's original decision but he was in on it and never protested the decision.

    vs HHH 2, Taker wrestled "weak". vs HHH 3, Taker wrestled "strong". vs Lesnar, Taker wrestled "old". I'm convinced that he told the story that HE WANTED to tell.
    As for someone getting a rub off of this, that would require a build of such awesomeness involving a face with the popularity of a Daniel Bryan, imo. Any other way would most likely end in the talent getting irrecoverable heat with the fans.
    That being said, why not have Lesnar be the one? He's got heat for days. Piling this on doesn't hurt him. It actually elevates him as a heel. Maybe he will be the new WM attraction, following in Taker's part-time schedule.
    I agree that, if this had to be done, it could have been done better. I would have chosen another show than the one built for Daniel Bryan. But by killing The Streak, it left no doubt that Undertaker is done.

    People are complaining about Brock being part time but Undertaker is part time himself and are still butthurt about him leaving 10 years ago to try to accomplish other things because he didn't like travelling (that's why he continued to wrestle in Japan) but even if a young guy like Bray Wyatt or Roman Reigns broke it how are we sure that they would stick around and if Punk was given the streak it wouldn't of done anything since he would of still left. The streak had to end and Brock was the only believable guy left as he is a former UFC champion (a sport which is real fighting) and The Undertaker was old and fragile at 49 years old and it wouldn't be realistic if a 37 year old former UFC champion couldn't defeat a 49 year old Undertaker who is a shell of his former self.

  • @CurtyFM

    The build up was poor to add to the shock value of Lesnar winning. So many were saying how weak he looked in the weeks leading up to WM, so actually, given the result, the build up was perfect to what they were trying to achieve?
    The match itself wasn't great, but it's the first time I've watched a Taker match and thought he was really starting to show his age. Also, the crowd were assuming this was just going to be another Taker win, partly due to the build up, so never really invested in the match.
    Personally I don't have a problem with the booking, the Undertaker had earned the right to have the final say with who broke the streak and I'm not going to question the guy after all he has given us. It deflated the crowd temporarily, but overall I think this was easily one of the better Wrestlemanias.

    I think it's funny that someone like Schlegel throws WWE's "bullshit" logic out the window starts at 6:03 making a point that WWE would justify Lesnar's record at WM is 1-2 when WWE never acknowledges any history whatsoever. WWE never acknowledged Lesnar had already beaten Taker in HIC and Taker that had faced HHH at WM17 last year at WM29. Everything match and feud that happens to WWE is new even if it isn't. Lesnar was put over because he was legitimate as anyone and who else? Taker is 49. Taker did the old school thing and put over Lesnar just as JBL let Mysterio put him out at WM25 and Flair put out by HBK at 24. Lesnar will take this as a top heel and draw to hopefully challenge big draws of the future to put over. Isn't that what you want in the end Schleg? Someone who is able to "pass the torch" to the younger wrestlers by conquering the unfathomable? I love Taker and I love him anymore for letting it go. It doesn't hurt his legacy. NO SPORT IMMORTAL held on to a streak. Even the Dolphins lost the next year. But you will never forget and THAT IS what is special...memories are undefeated!!!!
