Quite frankly, I have much respect for Trombone Shorty. After playing the trombone, and knowing a little about how hard it is to make one sound a clean and pure as he does...was never considered to be a lead instrument, at that. I am impressed. Go Shorty! Those high notes are not easy to make sound that pure, believe me!
Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Slide Hampton may want a word with you about lead trombone. As for pure trombone musicianship, I would recommend searching for the STS (Southeast Trombone Symposium) youtube recording of the Superman movie theme. Lots of fun.
The key I learned is in the gut. This one time at band camp, my teacher showed me a demonstration to get that sound. He was a rather rotund fella, and he had me put my hand on his stomach while he played. When the sound went wimpy and weak, I could feel is stomach soften. When the fat sound came out, his gut literally bounced my hand off as if I were feeling the vibe of a well struck timpani. We had to play Fanfare for the Common Man, and I had the bass trombone part. That little lesson made a world of difference.
As I surf You Tube it just astounds me the number of people that make critical / technical observations and criticisms about PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS; people who do this for a living; who have won grammy's; yet these Monday morning quarterbacks that sit on the sidelines feel compelled to criticize someone like Trombone Shorty, or Marcus Miller, or whomever because they don't play within their rigid technical circle of what is correct. Go create some music, win a grammy, then you can critique all you want. But until then .....
Ted Barsalou If they've got time to sit on the internet, comment on youtube and criticize other musicians instead of playing music, then yeah, they can't hang with the professional musicians they criticize.
Right on. Exactly. I'd like to see them drive up to a work zone and tell the road crew what they doing wrong. Or jump out of their car and start yelling at the roofers on some house or building for not putting the flashing around the chimney right LOL. These internet douchebags are just very sad, broken, lonely individuals with self-esteem issues.
I'll just say this, and I mean it in the best possible way. This arrangement reminds me a LOT of the Oakland Funk that Tower of Power brought back in the '70s. Gods but this is tight!
This track is hot! Does anyone know where to find this version of Buckjump? I looked on Itunes but could only find a version on "For True" which has a much different feel.
Whenever I hear trombone shorty playing I remember how crap I actually am at trombone, even though I'm 2nd trombone in the top band at my school. He's too good XD
pavlovsunhappydog (alt. Account, I'm fizardwizard, have moved to 1st now) it's not too challenging once you know the slide positions for different notes
Could you and your band ever come to Davenport Iowa you are my idol I’m a trombone player as well and I love the music you create and I really want to meet you😂
I just started playing the trombone than I looked up trombone on iTunes and trombone shorty comes so I'm like ok and I click it to try listening to it and now I'm a big fan. Awesome😜😜😜😜😜 Errrr there are no trombone emojis I was gonna put one right here but there's only trumpet and sax. 😔
I'd type them out but that can be confusing and I'm not sure what instrument you play. Go to trombone alex's website; it's a blog where a guy transcribes a bunch of trombone solos, including all of trombone shorty's. Buckjump is on the blog and has the melody written out.
As a trumpet player, it interests me how puffed out his cheeks get. Is that proper embouchure for a trombone? I'm just curious. Love the sound they're making though!
Soooo he have 99 dis tasteful people who don't like music or appreciate music at all 🤣🤣🤣. Hey shorty!!! They don't even like themselves 🤣🤣🤣 I just turned it up a little louder 👏👏👏 outstanding.
Kind of ironic that the channel is called Sound Opinions. I don't think the drums and guitar sit very well in the mix. Great track though, always loved the chorus and Shorty's awesome solo.
Just finished watching a video of him when he was a lot younger and he was puffing his cheeks something stupid and it was affecting his sound, well now he fixed it and wow he sounds great!
Honestly it's not a good thing, but Greats have done it and have been considered he best players in the world. Louis Armstrong used to do it. It's preserving wind in your cheek to keep phrases going. I do it sometimes, but never on purpose it just happens.
Sidney Gilley That is circular breathing. It requires puffing your cheeks. This isn't like Dizzy Gillespie who did it because of a bad habit. He was the first to admit that.
Very likely he tore that buccal muscle as a kid trying to play higher/louder than he should have. He didn't give it time to heal and so it was abused until it is completely scarred over and cannot pull the cheek in. Nothing he can do now about it.
Lol the way the trombone and the alto blend together almost makes it sound like there's a trumpet in there! That's so sick
+Louis Loveland There is no alto, you must be tripppin'. Troy Andrews is just playing in an upper register on his trombone.
+Sonicfan640 I think he meant altogether sax
Lol let's go with that ^^
+Louis Loveland Do you mean by the tenor sax? The guy is just fantastic...
i thought it was a trumpet and was like what sec...
A lot of things your middle school band instructors tell you about playing your instrument start to not apply anymore after a few years.
Gotta learn the rules to learn how to break em
"Don't puff your cheeks"
I literally learned nothing from Middle school band
@@drewsterling113 *laughs in Louis Armstrong syndrome*

I also played the trombone, though with a putzy sound.
Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Slide Hampton may want a word with you about lead trombone. As for pure trombone musicianship, I would recommend searching for the STS (Southeast Trombone Symposium) youtube recording of the Superman movie theme. Lots of fun.
Totally that's the struggle, keeping the sound clean and pure

Tr1?
Viniste por trueno, sabelo.
Love this guy's horn section, they really bring it! First listen was Fire and Brimstone, now I'm hooked...
Skip Hatchel Bro check out his performance of "St. James Infirmary" @ the White House. Mind....Blown!
It's just some douchbag on the internet.
scrmtrumpet
shut up that's a damn lie and i think you know it.

Path Cracks are how the light gets in.
I like this arrangement better than the one on the album.... wish he'd make ones like this...
I felt the stress of this incredible musician on that studio
absolutely clutch
fantastic!
That melodic mix at the end is killer and just shows how great this band really is
I'll just say this, and I mean it in the best possible way.
This arrangement reminds me a LOT of the Oakland Funk that Tower of Power brought back in the '70s.
Gods but this is tight!
This guy and his band sound so awesome...wow...well done guys!
I like he has always had that one puff cheek since was a kid
Hi keep it original
Nickatni
Stone music!
@@singingcpa61 What you call me?
I like how the barri sax guy was just standing there but everyone else was getting into it
He is loaded.
One of the best horn players I ever played with just stood there.... and blew his ass off!!
What can you really do when holding a bari lol
Someone's a classical player lol
Michael Abbo Just look up Leo P, he‘ll show you ;)
I played this with my school's stage band last night. Such a great song
i think you are a great trombone player and i look up to you because im in beginning band at school! I look forward to being as good as you
exploring and stumbled upon this. man, i've fallen hard. this is a gem of a find.
No lie i thought this was apart of the mario kart 7 soundtrack
Quite a compliment to both musicians!
Just excellent, excellent playing and sound.
When ever they show Joey Peebles, you can see the guy in the sound booth getting down. Love him!
This is real music
playing this in jazz band
you're so lucky
boy squad soy I got this song in jazz band and the written solo is really bad
Cool. Full of soul.
Greetings from Brazil.
Band director: find a song on your instrument to play before the class but you have to learn the head by ear. Me: TROMBONE SHORTY TIME
This track is hot! Does anyone know where to find this version of Buckjump? I looked on Itunes but could only find a version on "For True" which has a much different feel.
I wish I could play my trombone like him... love it.
Ditto
I much prefer a classical style, but this is actually pretty good.
Spend around 8-10,000 hours playing in clubs, practicing, writing and you will be able to play like Shorty
really good artist! great things to come. :)
he's so cool! I love it!
Love this! TA is the best and Murano is way underrated. One of my favorite bands.
wooow! is right! LOVE that good. 'ole funky style. Its that FEEL GOOD music that lasts all day! has baby! thanks you for the video music!
WOOO!!! That solo is DIRTY! And FIRE!
Now that's real funk jazz
Antonio Montana James Brown would be proud.
Ser um músico e um dom nato único não e para qualquer um❤
Sweet Mother of all that Rocks & Grooves! Already have my tickets for the Chicago show @ Park West.
Whenever I hear trombone shorty playing I remember how crap I actually am at trombone, even though I'm 2nd trombone in the top band at my school. He's too good XD
Would you say it's a challenging instrument to learn the basics?
pavlovsunhappydog (alt. Account, I'm fizardwizard, have moved to 1st now) it's not too challenging once you know the slide positions for different notes
Could you and your band ever come to Davenport Iowa you are my idol I’m a trombone player as well and I love the music you create and I really want to meet you😂
I was supposed to play the solo for this song in high school jazz band my senior year (2020), never got to play it because of covid.
I just started playing the trombone than I looked up trombone on iTunes and trombone shorty comes so I'm like ok and I click it to try listening to it and now I'm a big fan. Awesome😜😜😜😜😜
Errrr there are no trombone emojis I was gonna put one right here but there's only trumpet and sax. 😔
It's probably a daft question really but could i ask if you think it's a hard instrument to learn?..compared to a guitar say.
pavlovsunhappydog no where near the complication of understanding the whole guitar, or guitar theory.
hey you guy...you are great
Is this version on any of his albums? The guitar intro on this video is a lot longer than the cut on "For True".
Guitarist adjusting his tone or his levels? Either way Shawty said hell no, ain't nobody steppin' on my toes on this track!!!
in ear monitors i would guess
What types of horns does he play trumpet with screw in mouth piece
トロンボーンすごく憧れます✨
I'd type them out but that can be confusing and I'm not sure what instrument you play. Go to trombone alex's website; it's a blog where a guy transcribes a bunch of trombone solos, including all of trombone shorty's. Buckjump is on the blog and has the melody written out.
my marching band played this this year it was awesome
He protecc
He attacc
But most importantly..
He compose on the tracc
Can i get a copy of the trombone sheet music? Please!
best trombone timbre out there today
This… is… the … shit. Fyuh ….. amazing. The horn orgasmic good stuff. Thank you
As a trumpet player, it interests me how puffed out his cheeks get. Is that proper embouchure for a trombone? I'm just curious. Love the sound they're making though!
no but he is self taught from the age of four and when your that good who cares
+victor rivera Very true. He brings Dizzy Gillespie to my mind. Absolutely amazing music! I saw him live once and it was so much fun
How long have you been playing. I play trumpet too along with most brass.
+Jonathan Langberg When his cheeks get really puffed it's because he is circular breathing
+Jarett LeVan I've never even heard of that before... Well I know what I need to go practice.
Bit late jumping on the trombone wagon but this might be my favourite one yet. YAAAH
Why do we never see the bass player? Is he that black? Or was he a wanted man?
does anyone know where i can find a transcription of the solo at 2:19 ?
Love it!! Totally cool.
That is my boy!
very good, I'm estudant music trombonist and really liked you guys parabens!
This is AMAZING!
So skilled, sounds like a trumpet, being able to play octaves lower than what a real trumpet could play.
WOW! I must learn this
Soooo he have 99 dis tasteful people who don't like music or appreciate music at all 🤣🤣🤣. Hey shorty!!! They don't even like themselves 🤣🤣🤣 I just turned it up a little louder 👏👏👏 outstanding.
I wanna move to NOLA . . .
So much talent .
Finest "Bone blower I've heard since I enjoyed Fred Wesley with The JB's! Mr Andrews jams in his own category and makes it special every time!
Kind of ironic that the channel is called Sound Opinions. I don't think the drums and guitar sit very well in the mix. Great track though, always loved the chorus and Shorty's awesome solo.
Ɀ yeah the guitar sounds too heavy, needs to be a little more jazzy, but drums fit nicely
TS is a bad dude .love his music
As is tradition: Stellar.
muy buena ejecución
Now this is music! God, I hope the pseudo music machine doesn't get hold of this band.
cool ! jazz thank you
Gostaria que ele conhecesse o Zeca do Trombone , aqui no Brasil !!!!!
Does anyone know what kind of horn Shorty has?
+Sean Hendricks B.A.C. Custom Classic Series trombones. The "Trombone Shorty Model" horn. Its on their website
It might also depend on which performance you are watching, because he also plays an Edwards jazz model.
so COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shorty puffs his left cheek soo much haha, but hey it sounds incredible!
This Song is so hot live!👅 Love You so Much Shorty!🌟🇯🇦🇿🇿🌟🇸🇺🇵🇪🇷🇸🇹🇦🇷🌟💋
what notes are in the melody, anyone know?
WOW VERY GOOD
when you have a video with this kind of sound, then you can tell people with air in their cheeks they are wrong
fast trombone..........very good.
Musicos maravilhosos!!!
who's the guitarist?
Great stuff!
after all those years he still puffs his left cheek XD
Just finished watching a video of him when he was a lot younger and he was puffing his cheeks something stupid and it was affecting his sound, well now he fixed it and wow he sounds great!
It wasn't affecting his sound, it's just a different style. It's to growl on the trombone.
I've never heard puffing your cheeks is ever a good thing. Unless I've been lied to all these years.
Honestly it's not a good thing, but Greats have done it and have been considered he best players in the world. Louis Armstrong used to do it. It's preserving wind in your cheek to keep phrases going. I do it sometimes, but never on purpose it just happens.
Sidney Gilley Not true. Growling is done with the throat.
Sidney Gilley That is circular breathing. It requires puffing your cheeks. This isn't like Dizzy Gillespie who did it because of a bad habit. He was the first to admit that.
*Trombone Shorty*
Just recently discovered this unbelievable artist thanks to a +Google freebie they gave out at Christmas. He's an amazing talent.
Trombone
very good that you rock right
lol he still does the left cheek thing xD i love it
the bari sax and tenor sax players sound great
Love it
Ppl only criticise music when theyre old
This right here, straight FIY
Guitar tabs?
tremendous!
I like the Hip Hop version (Check baby, check baby, CHECK)
Very likely he tore that buccal muscle as a kid trying to play higher/louder than he should have. He didn't give it time to heal and so it was abused until it is completely scarred over and cannot pull the cheek in. Nothing he can do now about it.
This guitar is a poison !!
Good shit.
This kicks
Yoh
Trombone baby!
he's circular breathing
I don’t think he is. He’s definitely done it before, but in this, he isn’t
straight heat!!!
Great !! 👍
I like it
