The studio version where he SCREAMS into it gives me chills. If you haven't had the pleasure, check out the studio recording. Anyone who took band through grade school, or just picked up a wind instrument in general, knows what it takes to huff and puff a sousa, much less humm and scream into it while playing.
Yeah, that technique is called multiphonics. Definitely a cool thing brass can do, and it's more common on the lowest instruments because you literally buzz with part of your embouchure and sing through the other at the same time, and that's a bit easier with a larger mouthpiece.
@@maxwellmckinley637 Might do you good to look it up on Musescore or something. One of the guys in my band had an arrangement we played but I haven't talked to them in years.
The amount of skills of this sousaphone guy, years years and years of hard work to reach that level of instrument mastering is just astonishing. This dude is just chillin and made that solo.
My son is a sophomore first trombones and they just got handed the tune yesterday. He’s like “I don’t have this range” and I’ll tell you the same thing I told him. Yes you do, you just don’t know it yet.
@@dfisk79 Yeah I have the range down, especially with my new jazz horn; the mouthpiece is so small compared to my trigger horn, its crazy. I've honestly got most of the song down right now, it's not too bad as long as you can hit the notes. That improv though... gonna need to transcribe that
This is one of my all time happy funky fun time tunes! Whenever I have to do something I don't want to do (cleaning, dishes etc) crank this tune and I'm happy to dance away while doing it!
@Kal3w As someone about to graduate college with a degree in music education (which I never thought I'd get to do :D ), I hope you stay involved with music even after school! Whatever you do later on, keep your love for music, it's worth it 👌
GANG GANG!!!!! My fam told me trigger trombones are unnecessary and they are right 🙏!!!!! I am playing this work this spring with my high school as the solo trombonist! I can NOT wait!
Been listening to this song since forever first time seeing it performed live. Amazing, I thought for sure they had a DJ doing the scratch part, but I had a hunch it had something to do with the trombone since it was during the solo. Mind blowing
Multi phonics, he sings while playing a note. A lot harder than you think, it's normaly hard to hear on a tuba, but it helps that he has a mike. And for the other sounds, he sings those. Its amazing really
@Skapete Nat was back for the summer and for a tour this past fall...but as far as I know, he's not doing it anymore. Its too bad because he's unbelievable!
They may be a brass band but that drumming is out of this world.
that sousaphone solo is the absolute best
You're Not Lying my Sousaphone Brother
Julian Peinado nah he ain’t
Hello Sousaphone Brothers!
Greetings from Poland
The studio version where he SCREAMS into it gives me chills. If you haven't had the pleasure, check out the studio recording. Where
10 years ago I discovered this band best year of my life
Still listening to this
before i die, i need to see this band performing live
seeing this band live is on my bucketlist as well
I've seen them twice and played with them one of those times. It is what caused me to start my own brass band
have you seen them yet?
Saw them in Green Bay, WI at my boys’ high school. Wow, what an experience! Thank you to the band director for arranging their visit!
It's insane How Nat McIntosh can hum, make weird FX noises, and play sousaphone at the same time

@@ericstuewe389 Wow thanks for the explanation and the vid. Really insteresting stuff!
I arranged this for my school's jazz band. It's a song you never get tired of, I love it!
Hello sir. Would you happen to have a copy of the score anywhere after all these years?
We play this for football games this one of are stands tunes
@@austinthegammer5555 Yooo. Can you hook me up with that score and/or parts?
@@maxwellmckinley637 Might do you good to look it up on Musescore or something. One of the guys in my band had an arrangement we played but I haven't talked to them in years.
@@stormiestcampfire Thanks bro
Every member of this band is the most fortunate musician on the face of the planet.
At 3:58 the trombonist reveals the secret to his awesome performance.
True 🤣
Yes, he drank some sort of magic elixir that enhanced his talents.
Both Trombone players are 100%. The whole band is next level
It's 2022/2023: This is the baddest ass brass band I know...I love them,GO BABY GO!!!
That dudes shirt lights up!
“Oh does my shirt light up? Didn’t even notice.”
I didn't notice but MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN whoever designed it was GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want that shirt!
Nothing like classic instruments with a new age sound
I believe we call that jazz.
The trombone and sousaphone are on another level.
Who needs trumpets when the trombone has that kind of range
Ikr. I'm adding my range up slowly but surely as a trombonist brother 😃.
As a trumpetist i found this highly offensive. Instead of AI taking over, we are at risk due to the trombonists😒
Everyone!
The amount of skills of this sousaphone guy, years years and years of hard work to reach that level of instrument mastering is just astonishing. This dude is just chillin and made that solo.
In our school band (we're all in year 10) I play trombone and we've got to play this piece and I'm so baffled
May Bird lucky
You go to goresbrook right?
@@d2k24s6 yes

Playing this in our jazz band as a freshman trombonist... wish me luck

I love the sousaphone!!!!!! the octaves are so fantastic!!!
My favorite Youngblood Brass Band song
the sousaphones tone is incredible, and the solo is epic
This is one of my all time happy funky fun time tunes! Whenever I have to do something I don't want to do (cleaning, dishes etc) crank this tune and I'm happy to dance away while doing it!
Gotta love that Trumpet part, hell the whole thing is just A-MAZ-ING! Way to go Mike Boman
This makes me want to start playing sousaphone again.
Benjamin Arscott never to late to get back into it :)
I’m a 8th grader trumpet player and I love band so far. It’s never to late to try again

The sousaphone makes it! so cool!
I've been looking for this song for weeks. I thought it's named Manhattan this whole time. :D
Had it as "Detroit" and couldnt find it for my damn life xD
Super smooth sousa throughout the sax solo, and of course the solo... Always impressed with Nat
Over a decade later.
This still hits hard
I come back and watch this probably once or twice a year. Saw them in Cardiff, Wales around 2005. Place was bouncing!!
This is the single greatest and best thing I have ever heard.
If I played for Youngblood, I'd DEFINITELY be playing this BANGER of joy maaaan.
Well I am going to do this work of art for my school Jazz band I AM ECSTATIC!!!!!!!
I play trombone but this is epic.... total love this piece!!! Cant get breath=)
This song just shows how high on the jazziness scale Trombones are. They're soloing for like half the song lol
Yeah man its the trombone anthem!
I play tuba, and im 14
I rewrote this for my high school marching/pep band. It is so much fun
sousaphone on fire 🔥🔥🔥
#STRIAGHTTROMBONESALLTHEWAY
Forget the band teachers who say you need a trigger trombone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And A Bass With the Sousa
But try to remember the english teachers who say you need to spell it "straight"
Straight trims all the way unless there's a trill valve in the mix, then it's just downright cool
GANG GANG!!!!! My fam told me trigger trombones are unnecessary and they are right 🙏!!!!!

@Saxophone1590 Yeah, Nat really manages to keep all his octaves even. I love how clear it is too.
I just realized that the tenor sax player is wearing the most awesome shirt ever.
That’s an alto sax
I loved that sax's shirt and I kinda want 12
If anyone knows how to make those noises on the sousa... please let me know
very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it weird I like this version better than the actual studio recorded version?
Is that eric andre on the sax?
Lol. I am probably the only one who got that reference
Nice! lol i mean that totally is him right?
