Ryan, this is a great episode - "shoulds" = "shame" and shame sinks our emotions and our productivity so quickly! Love the idea of delegating and body doubling!
Hi Ryan! Awesome podcast! Appreciate all you do. This is Tony &Cassi from Anthony’s Way-The Road to Kindness. You are spot on about “shame” and “should” and feeling inadequate for asking for help. We are trying to get better at it and really needed to hear this. We would love to delegate emails and social media, but don’t think someone else would “get” our process and mission enough to represent us. Being so close to the source of why we created our non-Profit, We wouldn’t trust a virtual assistant at this point. We are not ready -YET. Tony is a Dream Big person- love your sign 🧡
It does take a lot of trust to delegate. We create the outline or ideas for the copy, the VA makes the copy and the email deign, then Ryan approves it before anything is sent out. We found a process that works for us!❤
Great episode! Loved how you shared your personal/business resources that help you with delegation. So cool that your VA has specialized in the way that they have! Sharing your resources helps to show that it often takes a village to accomplish big things.
Love it Ryan! The one thing I would love to delegate is everything to do with money management. To me, dealing with my taxes feels like wading through the thickest mud. I definitely need to keep trying to do better at asking for help… Thanks for the reminder!
Fantastic episode Ryan. Delegating is so hard for me. Sometimes I think it’s because of my perfectionism and no one else can do it as well as me. Even though the things I should be delegating, I don’t do very well.! I love your start stop continue exercise. This will help me clarify what needs delegating! I’m gonna work on that tomorrow so I can remind myself of what I need to delegate.
I have been delegating snow clean up. To someone with a snow plow. Also when I have material that I need to get to my customers that I can’t get to right away. I use ups or fedex when able. So I can move forward with things I can accomplish on my own.
I am retired and I think I have no excuse for getting things done. But, they are not done and feel shame that I am lazy . But if somebody helps me I can accomplish everything. Finally found someone who understands I feel better and will pick a link to help me.
In general, I wish I could hand things off, I often struggle with the process in general. I think it is best indicator as to how much I trust and am comfortable with a person.
As a small business owner, I’ve learned how important it is to delegate tasks. Letting go can be tough, but it’s a game-changer for both productivity and peace of mind. Sometimes, the more you try to control everything, the more chaotic things can feel. In the beginning, as a one-person team, I did it all-but breaking that habit was essential for growth. I love the 'draining your battery' list idea-such a great strategy I’ll definitely try out. Thank you for sharing such a valuable message!
Sometimes I feel bad asking my parents for help because I know they will say yes, even if they have something else to do or don’t really want to help me.
Thank you for this valuable episode, Ryan. The concept of delegating without guilt, especially within the context of ADHD, is truly transformative. I particularly appreciated the exercise of categorizing tasks based on energy levels-it’s a practical tool that can make a real difference in productivity. I’d love to know, how do you suggest balancing the need for delegation with maintaining control over critical tasks that directly impact your core objectives?
Coach Matt- getting a housekeeper to come once a month was one of the best decisions we ever made. I don’t mind cleaning, but when I am cleaning, I am not spending time with the kids or doing other things. ❤
I love the way you reframe asking for help as a strength! It’s the key to becoming comfortable in yourself and your professional capabilities👏
