This isn't how my sink stopper worked, but your video explained enough of the general mechanism that I was able to take mine out and clear the clog in the sink!! Thank you! I feel handy now :)
IF YOU'RE STRUGGLING TO FIT THE ROD BACK INTO THE STOPPER: hold the drain stopper in one hand and the rod in the other. You'll be able to feel when the rod is hitting the stopper, so just move the stopper up and down until you feel the rod go in. Hope this helps someone else who had a moment of panic because they're also not handy like me 😂

got it done and shot massive burst of air though the pipes now my sink drains fast like new all I needed was to remove that stopper piece out completely thank you!
Nice. The previous residents left me a nice present for when I moved in: a giant evil blob of hair and congealed stuff in the pipes of my bathroom sink, and I was able to disassemble, thoroughly clean, and reassemble everything without a hitch. Drains fast and easy now.

this helped tremendously. been fightin with a stopping sink for months. ive found that no chemical that states it unclogs hair or other items does. if it would, it would eat the seals and pvc plumbing as well haha. ive never had to replace or install one of these and looked at it last night and realized i needed just this kind of visual instruction.

Gravel down the sink? Guarantee some if not all of that gravel that fell down the drain is resting in the bottom of your p trap. You should take that off and clean it out.
I was cleaning this and my kid threw it inside the shower duct (its strainer was removed for cleaning so sink-pop-up got stuck inside it). Is there sny way?
This video is a good explainer but I think I’m just incompetent when it comes to handy work because I think I just made my clogged sink worse…I thought I successfully got all the gunk out of my drain, but I had some problems reattaching the stopper (screwing it in), panicked a lot, cried, then I guess got it back in? And pretty sure I screwed it on tight at the bottom. But once I started running the water, to my horror, the sink is still clogged and draining even slower than before. I used a tooth brush to remove a decent amount of gunk. It wasn’t a lot but now I’m wondering, is it possible I could have pushed down more gunk even further into the drain? I’m at my wits end and just bought Draino even though I really didn’t want to have to resort to this…it now takes at least over 30 minutes for my sink to drain. I don’t know what I did wrong.

Hopefully, you have a drain trap (right beneath the pop up)that isn’t glued and can be loosened by hand or a pair of pliers. Just bring a small bowl to catch the water in the trap.
basically, I got stuck in the reinstalling the stopper part. The stopper is now completely glue to the sink I can't lift it up with screw driver or anything that I can think of
WHY would they make this so hard to remove in the modern versions? Why would they practically bolt it in place? We are so sad.

So I loosened the rod, and when I went to pull the stopper it it must have been on its last thread, and it fell down the drain

I don't have a pop up rod under there, only the main drain pipe and the attachment hose to the water supply. Nothing else..

Give the rod a little tap with a wrench or hammer to push the rod through more, it’ll be shorter but should still work 👍
