My husband passed away close to four years ago and I don't know what I would do without these helpful UA-cam videos! I was able to fix my bathroom sink using this video which saved me a lot of money for something easily fixable. Don't know how I would continue repairing my house wo UA-cam videos so thank you again for the easy answers.
THANK YOU! I watched a whole bunch of these videos, and none of them helped me. My biggest problem was that the clip kept falling off. (Very frustrating--especially since there's not a lot of room there for me to work, and the positions I had to get into were awkward and uncomfortable with my hip and knee replacements.) You are the ONLY one who explained what to do; the others all said "Put the clip back on." You showed me exactly how to put it on and how to make it tight. A 74-year-old woman, I am thrilled that I could fix this by myself!
You are one of the few that ACTUALLY show EXACTLY how to properly align and install the stopper. Thank you! Your video was EXCELLENT! I now know how to repair my broken stopper. Much appreciation to you!
Just saw this one I said the same thing. Most Excellent...be bless my brothers and sisters. Keep teaching, Keep sharing and keep safe, and keep loving... John3:16
I'm one of those married women who likes to learn how to do everything myself because my husband is not a handyman. You have completely rocked my world today, thank you! :)
The stopper was taken out of our sink for 6 months while my husband said he would fix it. I got tired of waiting and watched this video. One trip to the Home Depot and 20 minutes later all fixed. Thank you for perfect explanation and pictures.
Same here! This was on our “quarantine to do list”. That was made in April 2020. Still not done! My husband is out of town for work this week so here I am, trying to FINALLY fix it myself.
Hi Scott, our bathroom sink stopper lift rod has been loose for YEARS. The horizontal rod was not connected to the strap, and the lift rod would pull completely up and out of the faucet base. Your video showed me how to fix everything! A big bonus from doing this repair: The top of our lift rod is square, not round, so when the lift rod got loose, the little square would never stay lined up parallel with the wall (which drove me nuts). I made sure I got the square lined up perfectly when I tightened the bolt holding the lift rod, and now it's all good! And now I know the names of all the little parts under the sink! Thanks so much. Your video was by far the best one I found out of the four that I watched.
This was one of the most helpful home repair videos I’ve seen. Great camera angles to see what was needed and discussed all major potential issues. Thank you so much for the help!
I am a senior woman dealing with a leak under my sink; it was a broken seal that you show at 5:46! I didn't even see the seal fall out, so what you said made me go look for it. So tiny, but it is cracked apart and that was causing the leak! On to hunt down a seal now! Thank you SO much! You saved me, right before Christmas company coming!
Here's another 74 year old woman with a broken sink stopper...thank you! I looked at 2 other videos before yours, including one from This Old House, and yours was the only one that explained and showed everything I needed. Very clear and thorough.
Best demonstration; I was able to replace a bathroom sink stopper. I liked the fact that you showed the right way and the wrong way. By the way, I am an 87 year old woman. Thank you so much.
I watched a couple of other videos that provided quick fixes that didn't work before I found your video. This was so thorough it had me feeling like a handy man. Great explanation and I had my issue fixed within 10 minutes. I knew it was something simple I could do with the right guidance without paying a plumber $200+ for a few minutes of work. Thank you very much for sharing your gift and expertise with those of us who are not experts in this area.
A well-thought-out, clearly explained tutorial. Just what I needed. After putting off the repair for a couple of months (!!!), it took me about 15 minutes to disassemble, clean, and reassemble the stopper assembly (the pivot rod had come loose). Now I'm actually looking forward to maintenance of our other bathroom sink! Thanks very much.
Best video. You explained in detail while showing each step and how to do it. I was going to call a plumber cause the pop up stopper drain rod that goes thru the the pipe had rusted and broken off the sink stopper that made it go up and down. I bought a $7.00 pop up assembly and use the one piece I needed. Your voice and patience really helped. Thank you so much.
I am Soooo thankful! I'm a female trying to install a new sink. I've watched so many videos it would make your head spin on how to attach the strap- without it falling off (my issue). No one has addressed this issue- until the end of your video when you mentioned bending the clip out for better tension! OMG! Simple fix. THANK YOU! Now I can quit crying.
Hey! Awesome video bro! Very thorough, with detailed examples for different scenarios. This is the first video I watched on the drain stopper repair. I don’t believe that I will need to search for a second video. This single video is perfect for this search. Thank you for saving me time! Thank you for every example. I can do this repair in confidence now!❤
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BREAKING THAT DOWN! I am an apartment renter and to see this easy fix get done and I know how sorry the maintenance crew is here after months of a broken bathroom sink! I'm going in!!
Got bored while dying my hair and decided to fix the drain stopper that has never worked properly (wasn't properly connected to the lift rod). Took me 5 mins with this video. Perfect how to!
Like the other commenters said, this is the best video I've seen on this fix. The only tip I want to add is that you can turn the stopper 90 degrees and it should still go up and down. The reason for doing this is so you can remove the stopper to clean hair and soap from it. Still, you explained everything so clear!
You mean 180 degrees (hole facing out), then you can always remove it by turning it 90 degrees (left or right) and lifting it out for cleaning (or whatever)
Heading back to school tomorrow (67 yrs old teacher). Accomplished nothing over this short summer. But TODAY, thanks to YOU, my bathroom sink drains! Thank you SO much!
One of the best how-to videos I've ever watched. Very clear explanations, and I love how you named every part (so we know what to shop for when we're at the store). Thank you!
Thank you from this handywoman for saving me hundreds of dollars and being able to do this myself instead of paying a plumber to do this. Did it myself after my teenager pushed the drains down instead of using the arm and got them stuck in the down position. Lifesaver! And helping me show my boys that there’s so many things you can do yourself around the house instead of paying someone else to do it when it is easy and simple! Thanks again!
There are a bunch of sink stopper replair videos, most do cover the repair side of the issue. I found your video to be one of the best. I loved that you covered a logical diagnosis process before going into the repair process. Great job! I plan to look at some of your other DYI videos.
This was easy to follow. Your presentation and video angles were exactly what I needed to repair a pivot rod. I thought it was broken, but then realized it was a matter of adjustment and because I watched this, I now have a better understanding of how it works. I, too, am 74-ish and the hardest part was getting down on the floor! So relieved that I was able to fix it myself! Thank you!!
Shows the details including the correct position on the stopper end and how to have proper friction on retaining clip. Key points for a complete/correct repair. Thank you!
Quick and to the point! Thanks for a great video! And and even BIGGER thank you for not littering your video with stupid music or crazy graphics. Great camera shots, easy to follow instructions, and extremely helpful demonstrations. This is how every DIY home improvement video should be!
I fix the problem fast and simple, after I finished my mom thought I was a plumber 🤦🏿♂️🤣🤣. This is the best video without a complex explanation that no one can do thank you for not having the complexity in this video because I would've totally messed up my sink🤦🏿♂️😂😂
You made it simple and easy. I actually figured it out but did not know the proper terms . Thank I would most definitely recommend you to everyone to view.
First, best video ever! My builder had the strap bent in every direction imaginable. He also had it facing in the wrong direction. There was also nooo plastic seal washer whatsoever, even though there was with the kit I purchased. The builder's strap and clip seemed sturdier though, so after failed attempts with the new kit I purchased, I tried to get his parts to work. Because of all the bends in the strap and a different type of 2-holed pinch clip (arrow-shaped), I could not manage to pass the pivot rod through the clip. The bends in the strap were the problem, but it was a thick strap, and I'm a woman. Paid a plumber $125 to basically unbend the strap and slide the arrow clip on. First try, the pivot rod was working, only he had to press on the stopper some for the sink to hold water. He told me sometimes you just have to do that? I was just happy that if I just pulled the rod tight enough it worked. He also didn't add any seal washer. Consequently I'll never hire him again as I foresee a leak in the future.
I watched this video for the first time. The first video I saw and didn't need to Google another video on how to fix my stopper because you did a great job of explaining, showing and made suggestions clearly and in a nice pace and nd I fixed my stopper as you were showing it! I didt it! I'm a single woman and I prefer to fix things myself before I call anyone. You saved me money and a phone call. THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you very much for this video. There was nothing wrong with my drain stopper. I just needed to adjust the pivot rod a bit. Voile. Thank goodness for people like you to take the time to record and share these videos.
Your videos are helpful I'm definitely sharing your channel and letting my friends know where to go when they need to know about home repairs. Thank you for teaching with easy to follow steps for a repair dummy like myself. I'm proud of what I'm learning. Thank you forever Scott with Everyday Home Repairs.
My friend and I tried to fix this problem, we spent 3 hours the first day and the next day, after spending two more hours on it, we found your excellent video! You did a great job guiding us through the process of fixing it. Thank you so much! It probably saved me $250.00 if I would have hired someone to do it.
Thanks! Just watched your video and figured out my problem. The pull rod was stuck in the highest position, meaning the drain was in the lowest, and wouldn't budge. I untightened the screw, gave the pull rod slack, and retightened. Works perfectly now. I've never fixed a plumbing problem before in my life, so many thanks that your video helped me figure out the problem (and probably save $300).
After watching several other videos, this is the one that clearly explained what the problem is and how to fix it. Thank you. I'm trying to get my mom's house ready for sale and I can't afford to hire anyone to do small jobs like this that aren't complicated. Thanks for providing such a helpful explanation!
I just want to say thank you! I unfortunately don’t have a dad to call for this sort of help, so thank you for this in-depth tutorial! You’ve given me enough confidence that I don’t need to call a plumber
Thank you SO MUCH. I am a 62-year old woman, and you empowered me, too! I got it all fixed myself, and it works great. A $5.99 repair kit at the hardware store is all it cost me. THANK YOU!! 😊🙏💪😄👏
I cannot thank you enough for this video. I’m 26 in my first apartment with my boyfriend. We’ve had a drain issue since we moved in 5 months ago. My issue was the quick drain rod fix. I love learning the home tricks and feel so bad ass and relieved to have fixed the sink!!!!
Thank you for such an easy informative video. I've always been a DIYer. Being raised with 4 older brothers I have learned a lot in my 63 years, but some things like pluming I just refused to do. Being alone and having to do things myself videos like yours sure help. Thank you !
Big thanks! First time, single homeowner here that has no idea how much I would come across to fix and need to learn. I always just thought, I'll hire a handyman. But they're expensive and I never truly know if they know what they are doing. So I've decided to just take matters into my own hands, like everyone else here. Thank you for a simple, informative, well explained video
Thank you sooo much. My stopper lift has been broken forever but recently I lost the rubber stopper I was using so I dropped the original brass stopper in & of course it got stuck... so while I had everything apart to push it up manually, I decided to fix it. I knew basically how it worked but I didn't really know what the parts looked like because I had disconnected it at some point & lost parts. So your video was a great find for me. I really appreciate that you took the time to show how everything worked with the other assembly, which Nobody ever does. Usually they just point to the installed unit and expect us to see through the pipe or something. I have some leaks to fix at my daughter's house so I subscribed & will be checking out your other videos for help soon. Thanks again! MB King
Thank you, Scott! This video saved the day. My failure mode was the corroded pivot rod. SO glad you emphasized how important it is to find/clean/save/properly seat that little seal. No way I would have gotten that right otherwise.
Thank you very much for your tutorial sir. I recently moved into an apartment complex and reported a sink clog and they cleaned out the p-trap and used some sealant putty to the p-trap connector. It was still clogged so I watched your tutorial and cleaned out the stopper but the p-trap connector is tight as heck and I didn't mess with it cause it just wouldn't turn because of the putty they used lol. But I got it to unclog thanks to you, again thank you sir. Have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas
Totally agree. He covered one part of reinstalling the stopper that wasn’t covered in any other video I watched. Saved me the time of having to try it two different ways.
I did everything just to end up finding out that the first thing you said to do was EXACTLY what the problem was.But in the process I ended up cleaning out the sink and finding out the stopper wasn’t put in correctly from the jump. And I figured that out because once I put it back in the way you said to and everything was all back together,I noticed the stopper raised much higher than it’s ever been..Thanks A lot
It's nice to have video with a description of what parts your actually working with! LOL Some people just say pull on this or that and this thingumbob! LOL now I know what part to get. Geez My Dad used to fix everything in the house now it's my turn because his forgotten everything he use to do. So he ask me now I just look everything up and fix it real quick and his happy as a camper. The funny thing is I have Dyslexia so its hard for me to read a book because the words and letter get rearranged while I'm reading it. Which is messed up. But If I slow everything down I can do it but i get tired and sleeping going slow, so its a lose lose situation LOL Even if I stop to talk to someone while sitting down I get sleepy and tired and sometimes I just drift off to sleep, I don't think it's insulting It just happens! It's funny to me but the other person doesn't think it's funny. Great video by the way Thanks!
I come from a family of four generations of plumbers. I'm also very independent so I wanted to try to fix this myself before I called my dad, brother or nephew. Thank you so much for this video!!!
Thank you for this video!! I have watched a few other videos on replacing the stopper and this one had the best explanations and images. I think I can finally get my sink fixed…. by myself!
What a good video! I liked that a lot of light was used so I could really see what was going on. There were good explanations for everything and a couple of very useful hints. I will know how to talk to my repairman now since I'm not able to do the job myself. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I am a single 53 year old woman who was dreading having to pay someone to come out and fix my stopper. It was a challenge to put that clip on but I did it!! You saved me time and money. Much appreciated ❤️
Great video! Finally decided to fix my sink stopper after a year, and all I had to do was slide the clip back a little bit - took 30 seconds - never thought it would be that easy!
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to fix my drain and didn't have to wait for someone to do it for me. As a single mom of two this video helped me alot.
My stopper wouldn’t stay down in the drain, kept popping up. After watching this video I went to check my set up and all I had to do was tighten the nut on the pivot rod. It was just a little loose but as soon as I tightened it the stopper works great! Super easy fix! Thanks for your video!
Thank you so much! You just helped me fix my problem at 9 pm on a Saturday night without embarrassment or breaking a fingernail, or leaving the house. You are my Saturday night hero!
Very clear instructions and camera work, I was able to complete the repairs on the fly with this information. The rod end broke, so it was too short to catch the hook on the stopper! I was able to slide the ball down with pliers to extend the rod end, and then it was long enough again to catch. Thank you!
Great video for an inexperienced plumber such as I! The rod going into the drain had lost some off the end. A simple fix with your help! Thank you very much!
Thank you thank you thank you! My husband does not fix things, so we always have to hire a handyman. With your awesome video I was able to fix it myself!! And I understand now how the drain stopper works. What an incredible feeling. Thank you!!
Gave you a like and subscribe. Was pulling congealed bits of hair out of the drain stopper out cuz I BELIEVED it was PREVENTING the stopper from CLOSING PROPERLY, but upon doing so, I heard something metal fall off below the sink reservoir. Went to inspect and saw the U-shaped spring clip had merely come off the assembly so I looked at your video to make sure I was simply reattaching it correctly. Very helpful, thank you!
this is my first time owning a sink with a singstopper and i had no idea that there was a liftrod.. so you solved my problem within the first ten seconds of the video. I know that this wasnt the problem you *meant* to solve, but i really appreciate it lol
Amazing!! I really appreciated that you provided the link to amazon for the parts, you just saved me walking around the home improvement store looking for these items!
Exactly what I needed to unclog my bathroom sink. Thanks for the clear instructions. What was stuck to the stopper was revolting! No wonder the sink wasn’t draining!
Thank you, I've been living with a bad sink stopper for a couple of years and I could never fix it correctly because I didn't understand what was happening. Watched your video and 5 minutes later, problem solved.
This vides saved me! I unclogged my bathroom sink and couldn't for the life off me figure out why the stopper wouldn't work when I replaced everything. The lever position was exactly the problem! Thank you for sharing this!
Great job explaining how it works and made it easy. It's not that complicated but something easy to forget when you don't do it very often. I appreciate it.
I watched your video earlier today since my fiance's sink had a drain plug stuck down. You explained everything very well and made me feel like I could fix it. Not only did I fix, but I recognized mine was not right either and was able to fix mine as well! Thank you for this great video!
Clip wouldn't stay on... Bend my spring clip out! That's all I needed, but no other video mentioned it. I'd never had that problem before, but my current clip is made of thinner metal and I probably bent it in when removing it in the first place. Thank you! For anyone else with the same problem (clip won't stay on), he explains it starting at 12:45
Scott this is the 2nd time you saved me a bundle. Somehow the hoop on the bottom of my stopper twists off the pivot rod. Nothing broken - just need to re-orient it so the pivot rod catches the hoop. Thank you so much!!
I am a 74 year old woman and by watching you I as able to fix this myself. THANK YOU. Made me feel powerful.
I literally LOVE these type of comments. Good for you on taking the initiative. Wish you all the best.
Dang right!! Who needs expensive plumbers!
And I'm a 72 year old woman and I feel the same as you Joann!!
Absolutely fantastic video… now to go fix the stuck stopper!! Thanks for taking the time to make this 😊
Yep, 57 here! I couldn't make the clip stay as I was trying to pinch it together. Rewatched that section and voila!
My husband passed away close to four years ago and I don't know what I would do without these helpful UA-cam videos! Same here, barely room enough to put my head under the sink. However, all I had to do was tighten the pivot rod screw. Real Easy THANKS.

Absolute best pop up adjustment demo I have seen. You must be a teacher or just know how to keep it simple. Either way, Well done!👍
Appreciate the kind words 👍
This is the first video that actually helped me fix our sink stopper. Thank you for sharing all the details.

Wow great instructions, I was able to fix our bathroom stopper and I’m 75 year old woman!
You made it simple and easy. I actually figured it out but did not know the proper terms . Thank I would most definitely recommend you to everyone to view.
First, best video ever!

Such a simple little part which can be a major pain in the butt!
Definitely one of the best how to videos I have seen on any topic. Clearly explained, good pace, great explanations - excellent video. Thank you!
Thanks Kathy 👍

My friend and I tried to fix this problem, we spent 3 hours the first day and the next day, after spending two more hours on it, we found your excellent video! You did a great job guiding us through the process of fixing it. Thank you so much! It probably saved me $250.00 if I would have hired someone to do it.
Awesome, happy to help and thanks for the feedback 👍
I gotta say that you're an EXCELLENT INSTRUCTOR, very easy to understand.
Thanks Oscar!
Excellent explanation of how to fix the Sink Drain Stopper problems.
Great, happy I could help and best of luck with your repair.
@@EverydayHomeRepairs the repair went smoothly! Thanks again. I’m now a subscriber 😊
One of the best DIY videos I’ve seen-clear, thorough, and helpful.
Thanks Dale, appreciate the kind words.
Thank you SO MUCH. I am a 62-year old woman, and you empowered me, too! I got it all fixed myself, and it works great. A $5.99 repair kit at the hardware store is all it cost me. THANK YOU!! 😊🙏💪😄👏
Hey! Thanks so much for the support, I really appreciate it and happy to help 👍
I am a 63 year old woman and after your video I feel confident I can make this repair myself. Thank you so much.
My apartment has refused to fix this, so glad you made this video so I could fix it myself
Best of luck Shelby 👍
Excellent job! From camera work, to description, everything was exceptionally clear! Thank you.
This is the best and most well explained home repair video I have ever seen.
You just saved me a trip to Lowes or Home Depot and more importantly I look like a hero to the misses! Thanks champ!
Thank you for such an easy informative video. I've always been a DIYer. Being raised with 4 older brothers I have learned a lot in my 63 years, but some things like pluming I just refused to do. Being alone and having to do things myself videos like yours sure help. Thank you !
Happy to help 👍
For such a simple subject, you were very thorough with your explanations and video. Nicely done, you get 5 stars from this plumber.
Great, thanks for the feedback!
Yours was the best explanation...lining up the pivot rod
Can be tricky. Thanks

Hey Mary Beth, happy the video helped you out. Best of luck on the upcoming repairs and let me know if you have any questions. 👍
Thank you, Scott! This video saved the day. My failure mode was the corroded pivot rod. SO glad you emphasized how important it is to find/clean/save/properly seat that little seal. No way I would have gotten that right otherwise.
The only place to go to fix your sink problem! His explanations are clear and concise! Thank-you!!
You are an excellent teacher. I actually understood what you said and what I did wrong. From a 79 yr old woman.
Wow, this make a world of difference, thank you!, I hope your channel continues growing and growing.
It is the best video I have seen on this problem how to fix. Every aspect is explained so well. Thank you very much.
Appreciate the kind words 👍
Totally agree. He covered one part of reinstalling the stopper that wasn’t covered in any other video I watched. Saved me the time of having to try it two different ways.
frr
Great, happy to help!
the maintenance people for my dorm couldn’t figure out how to fix my sink. this video saved my sink, thanks!!
Awesome video. Everything explained perfectly, slowly and deliberately. Thank you sir.
Thank you for this video!! I have watched a few other videos on replacing the stopper and this one had the best explanations and images. I think I can finally get my sink fixed…. by myself!
you saved my life you are the only one who's video helped unplugged my sink in 4 seconds
Here to help 👊
Thank you so much. I work a full time job, and if my landlord sends somebody during the day I have to take PTO. You are a lifesaver
One of the best how to videos I have ever seen
What a good video! I liked that a lot of light was used so I could really see what was going on. There were good explanations for everything and a couple of very useful hints. I will know how to talk to my repairman now since I'm not able to do the job myself. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I am a single 53 year old woman who was dreading having to pay someone to come out and fix my stopper. It was a challenge to put that clip on but I did it!! You saved me time and money. Much appreciated ❤️
Thanks.
Your video helped me fix my sink drain in 1 hour after spending 8 months with a broken stopper.
Great video! Finally decided to fix my sink stopper after a year, and all I had to do was slide the clip back a little bit - took 30 seconds - never thought it would be that easy!
I am so proud of myself that I fixed my sink myself rather than calling a plumber. Thanks for the video.
This video helped so much it was exactly what was wrong- the rod was corroded. Was able to fix it by myself as a woman after watching this. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to fix my drain and didn't have to wait for someone to do it for me. As a single mom of two this video helped me alot.
That’s awesome and happy to help! Take care 👍
Best sink dain stopper troubleshooting demo hands down !!! Merci Beaucoup
Hahaha, nice job getting something done on a Sat night 👍
Very clear instructions and camera work, I was able to complete the repairs on the fly with this information. The rod end broke, so it was too short to catch the hook on the stopper! I was able to slide the ball down with pliers to extend the rod end, and then it was long enough again to catch. Thank you!
Great video for an inexperienced plumber such as I! The rod going into the drain had lost some off the end. A simple fix with your help! Thank you very much!
Hey Larry, good to hear you got it fixed!
I watched a few videos & yours was the only one to explain how to tighten the clamp piece…Thank You!!
You’re welcome 👍
Thank you thank you thank you! My husband does not fix things, so we always have to hire a handyman. With your awesome video I was able to fix it myself!! And I understand now how the drain stopper works. What an incredible feeling. Thank you!!
This was the best tutorial. Tried all the others, Glad I (75 female) found you and was able to fix!
Thank you!!! I am clueless with home repairs, but I was able to fix the issue by buying a new pivot rod---couldn't have done it without you.
That's what we are here for 🙌
Gave you a like and subscribe.
Hey Jennifer, best of luck with installing the new parts 👍
God bless you. My husband was able to fix this perfectly. Excellent instructions. Perfect teacher.
I watched your video earlier today since my fiance's sink had a drain plug stuck down. You explained everything very well and made me feel like I could fix it. Not only did I fix, but I recognized mine was not right either and was able to fix mine as well! Thank you for this great video!
Nice! Happy to help 👍
