Yeah, like who has mounting nuts that unscrew just finger tight? I ended it there and went to another video. Man, how do you get a lucky old faucet? I need one!
And he says that with a hidden smirk on his face too
Ended up using an angle grinder. Took all day until I figured that out.
This video is a bit lightweight. I've never seen a old plumbing fixture that was this easy to take apart.
One point in particular: maybe this is not true if you have the strength and skill of a real plumber, but if you're a DIY homeowner, a basin wrench will often be the difference between cleaning up the finished job for lunchtime and calling the plumber after shedding literal blood, sweat, and tears. Get a basin wrench!
Agreed. This video should be called "How to remove a late model bathroom faucet. Old fixtures don't come apart like this at the lock nut."
This is the best one I have seen so far. Great job Ryan!
Thank you! Short, sweet and to the point. I love it!!!
My old faucet had a retaining nut that would not budge. Was the hardest thing to get out. I'll offer what I did in the hopes it helps someone: I rocked the top of the faucet out a bit and got bolt cutters into the space between the faucet and the basin, at the top. I cut the lines and rocked it back and forth until it separated it. It came out. Basin was untouched. Hope that helps someone.
Excellent, thank you. Just removed a bathroom faucet for the first time.
You say "if you're lucky, you can remove these by hand" but then provide no instruction for those of us who aren't lucky.
Exactly. Mine had some old fashioned pinch nuts on it. Nothing like what is shown in this video. It was the one thing I came here for.....
I couldn't get any pliers around it so I was able to get mine off using a flat head screwdriver against the part where you grab with your fingers and hammer it off.
I was going to make this exact comment.
@@Lucyatreides Thanks for the tip! This worked for me.
@@doublee94 awesome! good luck on the rest of your project 💜
I was able to remove my first faucet 😁 the only issue was that the water knobs wouldn't turn but I found another video that helped me get past that. Thanks so much for your tutorial.
This drain cover was the last piece I just could not remove. After 3 hours of struggle, this was so helpful!
"If you're lucky you can do this by hand." Alas this is where I'm stuck.
Thanks so much! Just installed a new bathroom faucet thanks to you!
This is a great video totally going to try to do this, thanks!
Awesome instructions! I appreciate your video! 👌🏿
To remove the mounting nuts, I sprayed it with WD40 first, then unscrewed it wearing padded workers gloves to ease the pressure in my finger tips.
2:47 I'm unlucky. It was stuck. This does not help. :(
Thank you for this video. 😀 If my faucet is not attached to the sink, but is coming out of my marble counter top - is it not possible for me to move the facet more forward? Is this ofcourse obviously not possible because the counter top has a specificically made hole for the facet to go through? The situation I have is whoever installed the facet put it too far back from the sink that water goes everywhere when you wash your hands or anything. Wondering if there is anyway to fix this. Thank you! 😀😀
So helpful, thank you!!
Great video...was a lot of help
Remove the hand turn nuts with a flat head screwdriver, and hammer it gently. It should just have to get a little turn and it will come loose.
Thanks so much for your comment. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to remove my faucet. Or maybe I would’ve had to buy something expensive to do it. Using a flat head screwdriver and a hammer was just the ticket to loosen it enough for me to get it off.
Brilliant! That idea worked well for me
Mine is more difficult to reach and i think it has the nut glued with the screw. Any tutorials for that.😒
Thank you great!
Thanks a lot.
What do you do when there is no room to use a slotted wrench to loosen the mounting nut? It’s too big for my basin wrench and i can’t find a bigger one.
Same issue
So what if you're not lucky to be able to simply unscrew the mounting nuts with your hands....? 😕
got your lock nuts right here
Yeah. I can do everything except get those mounting nuts off, but it's too tight for my hand and too small for my wrenches. Came here looking for a solution. Guess I'll go look for a lucky four leaf clover.
@@screenstory if it helps melt the plastic and it’ll come off lol
Why would ypu need tp remove the sink flange if you are just replacing the faucet itself?
What if you're unlucky and the mounting nuts cannot be removed by hand?
Exactly!
Since I removed the basin nut, now I can't unscrew the flange. Seriously the whole thing turns underneath. What do I do now?
You may need to muscle it upward. A lot of time with these kinds of jobs you have to think outside the box. I may try using a rubber mallet underneath. Or using some sort of small hydraulic jack to lightly force it from place.
And is you are not lucky enough to loosen by hand....???
If only all mounting nuts came off that easily. I'm struggling with mine lol
Are you unscrewing the mounting nut clockwise? I have been unscrewing it counter clock wise and it doesn’t work.
I just tried clock wise and I don’t see a change.
At this point , I’m willing to live without one bathroom faucet for life. Lol
Yeah, the faucet I have don’t have shanks underneath
Didn’t actually show anything. Would it really have been that hard to truly show the process.
Nothing I have under my sink looks like this.
Unable to remove the flange by hand. Now what?
No way to do it. Cannot even reach the nut for the faucet!
😮if you're lucky.
What if you're not?
Thanks brother! you save me a big neck ache. I'm hoping I didn't waste my money on one of those under the sink wrenches.
I’m definitely not lucky with the mounting nuts 😒
"If you're lucky..." What about those of us who aren't lucky
And if you aren't lucky enough to remove it by hand?
“If you are lucky” you can remove the mounting nuts by hand?
The worst “how to” I have ever seen because it does not tell you how to do the important part: get those stuck nuts loose from a tight space.
Removing the locking nuts is the biggest pain in the neck and this video doesn't give you any tips whatsoever.
