  • Man, I can't believe it's already been 5 months. I feel like a stronger, happier, healthier person than I've been in a long time. Thanks for keeping up with me on my journey to quit smoking again!

    I just relapsed for like three weeks. Ugh. Day one tomorrow. Just like drinking when I quite. One always would lead to another. I'm four years clean of alcohol. I am going to apply it to smoking. I can't have even one.

    Congratulations on 5 months. I'm at 39 days, cold turkey. I smoked moderately for 26 years, more than half my life. Considering how long I smoked I haven't had too hard a time. Yes I had the withdrawal symptoms and every once in a while it will rear it's ugly head, but I have a lot more reasons to quit smoking than I do to keep paying for a slow death. Lol I have neighbors that smoke and occasionally ask if I want a cigarette. They even know I quit, so instead of throat punching them I just shake my head and say: "no, I don't want to stink anymore, but you go ahead". I'm lucky enough to have a large supportive family and most do not smoke. So it's easy to avoid, and I've never smoked in my home so no stale smoke smell triggers here. If I get a craving, I just redirect my focus to something else more positive or if it's really strong then I watch a video of nasty diseased lungs.

      Congrats on 39 days! That's no easy feat! It sounds like you've got the right frame of mind. With those neighbors of yours, the fact that you've quit has probably made them reflect on why they haven't. They probably figure that you'll come back -- it's hard to quit, maybe too hard -- otherwise they might have done it already. You're just proof of that uncomfortable truth that it's entirely possible. It's good you don't go straight to the throat punch ;) It's not their fault that misery loves company. Really awesome work :)

      I know this was a while back but.... you deserve the best comment award lol. I found humor in your sarcasm... I'm 26 days nicotine free and I still get very frustrated especially when someone offers a cig. However, at the same time I feel like my attitude has improved and I'm more calm than when I was smoking.

    I am on my day 17 of going smoke free. I started smoking back in 2017 and tried several times to quit it. I have learnt a lot from my past relapses and one thing I have learnt is that you never fully quit it. It is always an ongoing battle and you have to say no to it every single day. The battle becomes easy as time goes on but you will be making a mistake if you think that just one drag won't put you back in the spot.

      I hate to break to you man but if you're craving one that means you haven't learned to hate it. You can't quit it unless you hate it. If you still feel deprived in any way shape or from, I guarantee you'll be back. Hate it, hate what it does to you, what it does to your pocket, what it does to the environment. This video he tells you its something that will stay with you forever, that you have to fight it forever, NO. Don't fight! You'll win for some time, but watch the illusion of control crumble before your eyes (it may take months, or years). Simply because your brain is wired to DO things, not "Not Do" things, I'll give you an example: ready? DON'T THINK OF A PINK ELEPHANT. DON'T THINK OF A PINK ELEPHANT. DON'T THINK OF A PINK ELEPHANT. See? .................... HATE IT!

    i stopped for around 9 months and i was in a bar with my girlfriend at the time (who was a smoker) and like our man said i was debaiting just having one in my mind. i spent around an hour going over an internal monologue of why it would be okay. looking back i was looking for a justification for failure rather than accepting my own lack of resolve. anyway, like a fucking idiot i had one in the car park and the dopermine rush was like i was coming up on ecstacy. i found it very difficult to resist another after that experience. i think now that them initial few weeks of quitting are difficult but fortifies your resolve, but as time goes by and the craving subside that mental strength isnt called on as often so when a craving does happen it feels more intense. i feel its like depression, if you sit an dwell on it, it gets worse. if your chose not to continue with that train of thought, it gets better

    I’m on day 5, and I need something to boost my spirits... feeling very weak and low on energy. How long did it take to start to feel like yourself again??

    • @HealthWink
      @HealthWink  4 роки тому +2

      Sorry I missed this comment before. It’s been long enough that I’m not exactly sure when I started feeling myself again, but I feel like the first and second weeks are the most difficult. After that, things are still challenging, but you may find that you start thinking less and less about the fact that you’re quitting. Also, every quit is different, so who knows. The one thing I can promise is that if you stay off cigs, eventually everything will feel normal again. I hope you’re doing well!

    Non-smokers don’t relapse, they are non-smokers. If you relapse, it is because you don’t yet see yourself as a non-smoker. Once you do, you don’t need to try, it’s just who you are.

    • @ciararespect4296

      Non smokers have NEVER tried. If you tried and enjoyed it you NEVER FORGET. ITS DRUG ADDICTION AND WILL BE WITH YOU FOREVER

    • @brandsthatcreatelitter1648
      @brandsthatcreatelitter1648 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ciararespect4296 My description refers to the self image of smokers vs non-smokers. It is how you think about yourself, which determines action. Addiction circuits can be acted on or dismissed, those that relapse often intuitively believe that if a suggestion pops into their head, that it mist be obeyed, as if it was compulsory. It isn’t compulsory, those with will, make a judgement and chose to ignore that impulse. Weak people, need addictions to be all powerful, because that’s how they fail and submit to their basic
      drives.

      @@brandsthatcreatelitter1648 oh OK I agree with that. It's just that an ex smoker is different from a non smoker.. I haven't smoked for years but could still fall back into it. I don't intend to however
      But when I was 16 and a non smoker it never entered my head to have a cigarette no more than jump off a cliff.
      Now I've experienced smoking i know the pleasure was a false state of trying to get back the nicotine from the previous cigarette to feel normal but those illusions will never fully leave me even though I understand them
