I really do love longer speedruns, it's nice to have something that will last me a few days as it gives me a routine to keep the anxiety at bay instead of having to try and find something else to watch all the times
9 is my favorite, 10 has my favorite battle system, but 12 is the one i can't stop replaying. i just love the world and the localization team knocked it out of the park with this one... "let them watch, i know something of cages"
Honest question: why is 10 your favorite battle system? I was so bored with: "This is a flying enemy and you hit flying enemies with Wakka. This enemy needs to be hit by Lulu. This enemy needs to be hit by Auron." That was literally the entire combat system.
@@DdavidoffC The ATB system has a lot of depth in 10 but it requires either a challenge run (No Sphere Grid or more) or post-game battles for it to matter. The issue with 10's main game is that final boss aside, the difficulty is really low and for most of the main game, you're restricted too much in your abilities. Once you get some freedom on the sphere grid and you get to the harder monster arena challenges or the dark aeons, the depth of the battle system comes out really well. I don't like the dark aeons and wish they were more creative than just blanket immune to most abilities but I think the battle system itself is well done, though perhaps not my favorite.
I definitely like 12 a lot as well. As an artist, I really enjoy the design of everything... characters, monsters, locations, etc. I also personally love the License Board and Gambit system, although I hear the Zodiac Job System is even better. I enjoy how large the world sounds and all the little side quests stuff. Of course, none of that stuff its into these speed runs but for a casual run it's great.
@@prometheuszero9 The Zodiac job's main advantage is that it actually differentiates how your characters play through to the end game. The big issue with both X and XII's original leveling system is that your characters are homogeneous in the end game.
When I finished watching this, I put it straight back to the start. This game is incredible. These strats are incredible. These guys are awesome. What a comnbination!

Balthier is a glorious man partly because of that voice! Fran has a really cool voice too I think! Not a clue what that accent is meant to be but shes so fun to listen to!
2 Years later and it's still hilarious how you can see Roosta zoom down the hallway in the background after he leaves after demon wall at the 2 hour mark.
In a way it reminds me of the old yu-gi-oh capsule monsters where you play it like chess super awesome game never played through it on gameboy but I have it as an emulator rn and I'm playing it super cool

So I'm doing my first real playthrough, I apparently got stuck right before the game actually begins and opens up when I was a kid, and, how. I can't even imagine running across the game world in 6 hours, let alone the fighting. Excited to learn
The dustia farming method is amazing. Takes some skill to get the chains and to never miss loot but it becomes muscle memory. I got a time of 5 hours 5 minutes for lvl 36 vaan (58 000 gil and held on to 27 flame staves just in case) after doing a run that took over 13 hours the first time i attempted (i put down to training) it for lvl 36 i lost time doing the hunts for thextera + flowering cactuar + village side quests for injured man also im not a speed runner(my 5 hr run i didnt do any unnecessary stuff). I opened the dalan chest on the 13 hr run. Realised what i did and had to reset. Most pain ever. Best i ever got was 4 flame staves in one single dustia and got killed by an alpha wolf trying to reset dustia without going back to rabanastre. Did 99 phoenix downs and got 20 flame staves and 21 on the other run. I had so much gil i got the grimoire for undead and used 70 phoenix downs and got 2 flame staves and 20 arcana. Do not get the monographs if your playing original on ps2. I dont know if the remake was better. I think the game took so long to make they didnt test everything. Every one says the pebbles and arcana dont affect drops i tested it and dont do it. So many people online say its a must and it must get better drops simply trusting blindly thats what it says they say better drops they say and people saying i noticed more drops after the morbid urn. Drops and good drops are different things. At best dont get them early game. After getting 20 arcana when my tests say they should have all been flame staves i wont get any monographs. Played this game for the last decade. Never realy noticed a difference besides the useless 3 gil drops. Some even say the diamond armlet makes no difference. Cant get zodiac spear if your wearing one. Isnt that enough proof. Loving the run. Helping me so much. Dustia strat is amazing thank you. Even beat razorfin and stole a water crystal before going into the palace(takes ages to steal).
I would encourage anybody who plans on being on a couch for a GDQ or Limit Break to watch the Ajneb FFVII run from SGDQ 2017 with J2 and Davestereo on the couch. They did a good job of explaining run mechanics while also covering the story. This couch didn't even try to work in the story at all. Don't get me wrong, it's still entertaining to watch, but it could've been so much more.
Just finished it, pretty cool run, and it went very well (at least that's what it seems). Final Fantasy XII is my favorite one, and it's insane to see it being beat like that. The comments were good, they explained the strats well, but it was a little hard to hear sometimes. And I don't get why the runners didn't have mics on, they totally should have.
There were 4 mics to spread across 5 people. Soloman, Aleck and Freddeh were on constant commentary so Hoishin and Roosta split it depending on whether they were running.
I happened to look at the back couch a shortly around 57:55 and noticed that everyone was quiet and sort of awkward looking with Muttski not sitting there and then around 58:00 I LOLed 58:15 "Man where the hell is Muttski at?"
bravo to the amazing acapella at the end. just wish you guys would have rehearsed it a bit... not an easy song to sing for guys at 7 in the morning. i wish this game gets done quick again and again like chrono trigger and singing of the 'kiss me goodbye' continue.

@@itzdat1k1ddabawzzz72 Elder Wyrm was the boss I ended up learning the Nihopalaoa strats for. Basically, you can unlock the Nihopalaoa in the Bazaar, and from there, if you equip a character with it the item effects for that character gets reversed. Use the heal-every-status item on Elder Wyrm with the Niho on, and bam, all the debuffs it can be afflicted with. It's good for basically every tough enemy and the bosses almost never have full immunity to everything. Niho will make sure the statuses land 100% of the time, too. Just remember which character has the Niho or you're going to regret it.
I’m in the 50s and i don’t do nearly as much damage to hashmaal or the judge. The status ailment useage strat is insane, way to scary for me as a casual player

FFXII is a great game (probably my favorite FF). Sadly, the speedrun with its two (or four?) repetitive grinding segments makes it look like it's really boring. I wonder whether, with the remastered version, future runs will be at quadruple speed, doing the game even less justice. At least, it will be one of the quickest FF runs.
Unfortunatly the IZJS version had a glitch allowing to get a completly OP bow as many time as you wanted after Barheim Passage so the speedrun of the IZJS version consist of just get 3 of this bows and just destroy everything with it while in Turbo Mod, which is boring even if the original version has spot for grinding which are boring to watch the overall run is much impressive and interesting to watch due to the need of an excellent execution.

"I know this game has problems but there's so much that's so fun....." 40 minutes in, I'm remembered: "So, chests are random, stealing is random, there is a certain set of arbitrary chests that you cannot pick up if you want certain items from other chests later in the game otherwise you just permanently lose them for no good reason" Yeeaaahhhh..... I still REALLY like the things I liked about this game but screw this game and all this arbitrary and random BS =P
the zodiac spear is the only one of those things thats actually dumb tbh. and thats coming from someone who poached hell-gates flames from cerebus' for 3 days trying to get damascus steel for a masamune.
There are 4 chests to not open if you want the zodiac spear early. There are no other items in chests with funny requirements. Chests aren't random either. Some have a chance to spawn, and of those some have fixed items and the others have one of 2 set items per chest, or a range of gil. Some chests always spawn and have fixed contents.

It's the British pronunciation, similar to how "valet" is pronounced "VALitt" and not "valAY." It's the British tradition of deliberately mispronouncing French words. I suspect it has something to do with a war at some point.

This game has a ton of dead time where they're just walking around, but they do a good job of using it to explain the upcoming strategies.
