Save Little Jamaica! I live steps from here and before MetroLinx it was such a feeling to walk through the area on a summer day. Such vibrancy! Don't let this place die like Africville and Amber Valley.

I remember watching you at the hospital on the TV in the waiting room on CP24 each week while my child was getting dialysis treatments. You brought such great energy and seeing someone who looked like me with my background.... WOW!!! When I heard I wouldn’t see you anymore on CP24 it really sucked! My family and I cheered for you all summer and we were so sad to think we wouldn’t see you. So! so! so! excited to see this UA-cam show. You are a Toronto treasure and I’m wishing you so much non stop success!!! Thank you for being such a breath of fresh air, so shameless in giving your voice, your perspective and your culture. So many of us can relate. Watching you feels like going to the family function and giving loved ones a big hug 🤗 we LOVE you ❤️❤️❤️

If you depending on Jamaica’s alone to support little Jamaica you’ve lot the plot. You should be reaching out to the Torontonians on a whole, black community in general or at least the Caribbean community because I know there’s business’s in little Jamaica that are owned by people from other Caribbean islands and by just calling on Jamaicans to support little Jamaica the number of supporters these businesses will get will be minimize. Sometimes you have to look at the larger scope of things and look at who has been going to do business in little Jamaica before all of this and it’s far from just Jamaicans that support these business’s. 2 of the biggest barbershop’s there are owned by a trini and one of them is co-owned by a Haitian. It might be call little Jamaica but there’s business owners from all over the Caribbean there.

Its so sad what has happened to lil Jamaica. It’s definitely being gentrified. I did enjoy watching this episode. This is what I like to see, our stories. The other side of what the news wants to show us.

I drive the bus and I've done night bus and believe you me the shelters are often at capacity forcing the homeless to often times take shelter on the bus for the night. The city needs to do better for the homeless people in our city. It's heartbreaking 💔

Happy to see the show highlighting poetry Brandon. A very powerful piece.
Here's a poem I wrote to everyone, to all of us going through the Pandemic, which is every single person in the World right now.
Good wishes man; take care, I love your show and your staff, it makes me happy to see you be a creator.
Here's the poem below, you are welcome to read it and share it with any and everyone. It's called "feel things".
    Feel things...
    I miss life.
I miss the way you can feel things.
I miss being able to have emotions.
I miss being able to be macho when I don't want to shed a tear.
    I miss seeing things.
    I miss connecting with people.
    I miss having friends.
    I miss eating with family.
    Life is a different animal.
    You can digest food.
    You can eat candy.
You can kiss your girl on her lips.
You can kiss your Grandmother on her cheek.
You can go ice skating at the pond.
You can sit on the shore at the beach.
You can eat coconuts and pineapples in the forest.
    You can play football;
    eat chicken wings,
    drink some Vodka,
your friends can have a cold beer,
you can drink some bitter Wine and more with your friends.
    I miss life.
I miss the way everything can seem so natural.
I miss the way things can seem so random.
I miss the way you can run into people by chance.
I miss girls with pretty hearts.
I miss women that hug me tight.
I miss people that love me and care about me.
I always remind myself to live hard and love hard.
    Love pure love and appreciation.
    [Pandemic poem by Punty...]

Funny how the best episode yet is called "stop the foolishness" should have been stap the foolishness 🤣. We definitely need Caribana this year in some capacity to help generate revenue for the city. Little Jamaica needs much more support from the city. To just gentrify the neighborhood for LRT is sickening! They would never do such a thing Greek, China, Korean Town etc

As someone who's played sports all my life, I personally like hearing the national anthem before hitting the track, especially when I was playing in the US. I support those who want to kneel, but I don't think the reason for cancelling the National anthem should be because no one is there to spectate. It's a moment for the athletes too.

The city needs to have several seats. Homelessness in Canada is a serious problem. Toronto has several vacant properties / parking lots owned by the city that can be converted into safe housing for the homeless. The city should start working with Kahleel and provide fire proof materials to make these tiny homes better. Once those buildings are made safe the city can stipulate safe places that they can be installed on.

    • @latisha334
      @latisha334 3 роки тому +2

Exactly, since the fires are a problem then the city needs to provide adequate housing. We have a larger homeless population than the space to house them. It would be great with Kahleel also.
One thing he has done by building these tiny houses is raising a lot of awareness about the often forgotten homelessness crisis in Toronto.

I agree with the idea of not playing the anthem. Personally, I've always skipped it while watching games. As someone who is also a soccer fan, I find it really strange. "God Save the Queen" isn't being played before English Premier League games for example. The anthems aren't being played in other countries either.

The city needs to do more for the homeless populism the streets. Not all homeless people feel they fit in at typical homeless shelters! They are treated terribly by the other occupants and sometimes scorned! It affects them even more mentally you can just imagine how they are treated that they would rather sleep outside in the cold.

Hi Brandon im curious is there any organization thats gearded towards helping black families purchase a home. I mean i not looking for hand out my thing is the banks will tell u oh u cannot afford a more than 450k house as a couple when our rent is 2063 per month and if we were to buy a house our mortgage for 550k house would be between 1500 to the same 2000 per month. Its ridiculous that rent is more than mortgage but and you pay it plus bills plus parking but then they say you can't qualify for a good house. So my question is many other races like indians chinese have organization or entities that ensure that they succeed in this regard is are any help for black families.

Playing the national anthem is a North American sport thing. To my knowledge, the anthem is never played at football (soccer) matches anywhere else in the world other than the MLS. Not played at rugby or cricket (local) matches or leagues either. Never seen it in the EPL, La Liga, even the Champions League matches. It's only at the World Cup or a continental tournament. It makes no sense in the NHL now since all the Canadian teams are playing each other in the Canadian bubble. There is no international play right now so it seems unnecessary. Having said that, I think many people would not know the national anthem if it wasn't for hearing it at sporting events. Not sure how many schools still make students sing it daily or weekly.

Little Jamaica is done. It started with the constant construction and now covid shut downs was the nail in the coffin. The people who came down here and started a business in the early 70s should have saved money to own property. Black people don't come together. That's the main issue. Now what happened in regent Park will happen on eglinton.
