I'm both jealous and happy for you! This is such a cool car. My dream car would be a '88-'89 Accord LXi 4-door 5-speed (Seattle Silver or Polar White). I'm 99% sure that color is called Misty Beige. Honda's descriptive powers were limited back then, because they called the interior either red-brown or brown-red (I can't remember). The Hatchbacks and the Coupes (introduced in '88) didn't get a sunroof on any model. Only the LX-i and '89 SEi Sedan had a sunroof. A little trivia- Accord Coupes for the entire world were built at Marysville, Ohio. We didn't get the Wagon in the U.S. until 1990. But the photo you showed was a model called the Accord Aerodeck. It was sold in Japan, UK and other parts of Europe, but never here.
I'd probably want the 89 LXI hatch as it would have the bigger wheels. But I'm okay with the 87. Yes the Aerodeck is a cool version of this series, I wish they sold them here in the states.
This is the exact year color make and model (however mine was an AT) that was my high school graduation gift. Drove this car much harder than it ever deserved and yes, I was "one of those kids" as a 90s ricer-enthusiast that tried to do as much as I could to make it like the SCCA/DTM cars I was dreaming of. Owned Delores from 96-2001. Sadly I wish I still had this car. So many fond memories.
What a great gift! And it sounds like you had a lot of fun in your car and isn't that what's all about? If you really want you should watch your local sale sites and find another one! thanks for watching.
you bought one new... thats so cool, I picked out a brand new 1987 Civic Hatchback Si in black for my mom... I have the car now 201,000 miles but i remember these... mom dated a guy with a new 1988 Accord LX 4door AT had gold emblems and a car phone great time in my life.
LX and DX models had slick tops. Only the EX and EX-L trim levels were equipped with sunroofs. I drive a 2005 Honda CR-V EX which is also a 5 speed manual. I absolutely love that car! My bumpers were also sun faded when I got the car this past summer and I used Meguiers back to black and that stuff worked pretty well. Another thing that works really good is LiquiMoly plastic restoration/cleaner.
Thanks, I tried a few products and nothing worked on the front bumper. Other parts it did. They used a different plastic back then on the front bumper.
Purchased a blue 87 LX-i Hatchback in December 86. Put 280000 miles on it and it drove the same from day 1 until I got rid of it due to the AC going out. Loved that car. I wish my 2018 Accord had the comfort, quiet, and ride quality as it did. P.S. The shelf in the hatch is fully removal.
Awesome! I have been driving it a bit and really, really love it. I just need to find the rear louver for it and I'm set! Maybe look for another one someday to bring back the memories?
Very nice car. My aunt had one back in the day. Hers was an automatic 1986. She can drive stick but doesn't like it, I much prefer the standard cars myself. She had that car for about 10 years until the head gasket blew and then she got a 1996 civic hatchback coupe.
So nice! Im looking for a hatchback, too. Would love a white 5-spd. I just watch a video on a 5th Gen Prelude where ge fixed the black peeling trim with vinyl. He showed how to take the peelimg rubber off with a heat gun. You should check it out. Detachable faceplates werent 80's. They came out in the mid-90's. Your Apline looks to be from the late 00's.
I'll look for that video! Thank you. I think you're right on the Alpine. I know the owner added it as I have the paperwork for it but I'd have to go through it see the date. Keep searching as I know these are hard to find but they are out there. I've seen a few for sale but not in white. Thanks!
Had one of these and wish I still had it. Is that radiator cap original? What about the radiator? They are consumables. The idea behind preventive maintenance is replacing something before it fails, especially when it comes to critical things like engine coolant. Check all the small coolant hoses that go to fast idle valve and everything. Try and keep all the rubber clean from oil. Good to see people knowing what they have.
Tips for owning an old Japanese car like this: -Either secure an Agreed Value Policy insurance policy on it or liability with over 10k set aside in the event of an accident so you can fix it out of pocket. Classic car insurance is IMPOSSIBLE to get on these cars thanks to gatekeeping. -Do not street park it/leave it unattended out in public ANYWHERE due to it being a theft target/hit & run target. If you have to, GPS tracker + killswitch install ASAP. Garage it religiously and box the garage in when it's not being driven. These old Hondas attract lots of reprobates/lowlives so these measures are necessary.
@@derekdoeschannel No problem. To be fair, these measures are necessary for anything pre OBDII/old enough to be considered a classic/antique, not just old Hondas/other Japanese stuff.
I wish they still made them like this. The new ones are huge sedans with 4 doors. What happened to these cute 2 door small hatchbacks and coupes with pop up headlights?
I may actually be able to help you track down one of those front marker lights. Let me know if you're interested! They did make louvers for these hatchbacks as a matter of fact. I believe that they are still available for purchase as well.

This is a fantastic car! Please keep it like this Derek 🤩
Thanks I’m going to keep it as stock as I can.
This was my first car. I loved that thing.
It's hard not to love it. So easy to drive maintain.
I had a 3rd gen Accord LXi (a 1986). It was the best car I have ever owned...and I have owned quite a few! Great video!
Thanks! I have to agree!
I, too, am a Honda fanboy. I’ve had Preludes, CRXs, Civics, Accords and 1 CR-V. This is a cool car!
Thanks! Can’t go wrong with a Honda.
I bought an 89 LX sedan, 5-speed and the same coloring. I love it, and wish I could find an LX-i hatchback like this!
Great car also. If you start looking for one, you’re sure to find one eventually.
I bought a 1987 4 door 5 speed LXI new. Dx was base, then LX, then top of the line LXI. Only the LXI was fuel injected.
That's what the "I" stands for. Thanks!

My 87' hatchback is still surviving with 215k miles on her , and i plan to keep her stock as well as restore over time to be as nice as yours
@@ebonwestbrook5580 perfect plan.
Bought new an '87 Integra, fantastic car. Was a good year for Honda/Acura.
Thanks I think it was too.

Not too bad I guess. The 96 was probably bigger than the Accord.

Yes it's still the original. I'll keep an eye on it and go over all the hoses. Good advice!
Looking to buy one of these, it was my first car, very beautiful! How much did you get it for?
I paid a bit more since it's a super shape low mileage one owner. Budget for a nice one upto 5K.

Where do you get an agreed value policy??

I found the classic Tri- Honda commercials on here i miss those 😅😅😅😅
There are a bunch online and they're really fun to watch!

I hear you. I love the classic hatchback. Fun, easy and cheap.
Can someone please tell if it’s a 1 of 1000 or how many were made of this exact year

I was able to mend my side marker actually. But the Louver is a tough find. They make a plastic on now, but I want the original metal one.
@@derekdoeschannel let me check with some of my parts suppliers. I'll let you know if I can find any
I prefer having more room so I like the sedan model the most on an Accord
There is actually quite a bit of room in the Hatch too.
My god that front end looks like an AE86 Corolla/Trueno
It really does. Just it’s front wheel drive
How many were made? Is it a 1 of 1000
I'd like to know that also.
My 1st accord looked like that but it was an 89
They made the 3rd Gen Accord from 1986-1989. The 89 had an SE that was the best of them all as it came with 14" wheels and bigger brakes.
is the 1987 a FWD or RWD?
It’s FWD.
they only made the S2000 in RWD.
@@mds2465Don’t forget the NSX
@@RogueRail oh yes that too
Take the trim off and find a business that does Anodizing
I looked into that, but this trim is notorious to bend when it's taken off and you can't buy replacements.
Beautiful car man, i would love to own one, nice review
Thanks. I love it too. Keep looking as they're out there!
