Great vid, just watched it before I replaced my oil filter for the first time. For anyone wondering about torque values, for the drain plug (2012 and newer) it's 20 newton meters, which is 14.75 foot-pounds. The drain plug for 2011 and older is larger, and is 42 newton meters (30.98 foot-pounds), and it's the same (42 newton meters) for the screen and screen cover for all years, since that part hasn't changed.
I know this is an older video. But it is important to note ...the nut on the KN Filter is ONLY FOR REMOVAL. You can tweak the integrity of the canister if you try and torque it on. It should be hand tightened.
Great straight forward tutorial on 696 oil change. Think it would benifit a new owner in gaining confidence in taking on owner maintenance versus dealer. Like the fact you took enough time to enjoy a few beerz. If you want to ever go back to ducati filters, i have all three filter huggers plus a strap. Good vid brother
Great video. I was pretty sure it was a straight forward task, but seeing it done give me more faith I can do it. I was able to get to the battery to get it charged over the winter. If I was able to do that I think I can get this done too. :) Thanks!
Thank you for the comment. I'm glad the video was helpful. The oil change should be way easier than getting to the battery. I lucked out. My dealer installed the battery tender lead during setup.
Superb video. I am changing my oil for the first time myself on my 2012 696 right now. Had the dealer do it previously. Finally got all the pieces. They told me I needed 4 quarts of oil. Did you feel you could of added another whole quart?
Great vid! Consider to get a used M696 and use it as a commuter :P Very clear guides with straight forward demonstration! Why easier then the oil change on my V8 Touareg haha! Do you have a vid on spark change or breakpad change? Thanks!
Bringing this video back from the grave... After changing out the filter how has the K&N filter been? No more leaks? I'm having the same issue with my 2012 Monster now with oil leaking from the oil filter.
I hate that oil drain plug... mine was a bit stripped when I bought it used, and I never should have put it back in. Now it's completely stripped and I'm going to epoxy an allen key in there to get it out and replace it with a better one. Just a warning for new owners.
Hey, thank you for your great video. i have a question regarding to the cleaning of the screen filter but after reading some post this question is now (actual in this moment) already answered! haha thanks sir
good video sir. i have a question. is there any possible way i can eliminate the service alert on my dash ? after done my oil change the icon keeps appear on the screen.
Yeah right ! It's easy on your bike, on my own Ducati, the exhaust line is just in front of the oil filter plug (horizontal internal filter), so it's mandatory to remove a part of the exhaust which could be a pain in the a** really just to access that oil filter. Anyway, we love those Monsters especially those with 2 valves per cylinder and air cooled :-)
MrToonfish wow. That does sound like a pain in the arse. Yes sir. Love those Monsters. Unfortunately I had to sell mine. Hopefully have a Multistada one of these days.
The Multistrada is an impressive bike, I have one of my colleague at work who purchased the latest MS 950 and man... this bike is so impressive and works like a jet fighter, even it's a "tall" bike, taking corners with it is pure joy, you'll love it for sure. Ride safe and thanks for your time ! ;-) Wink from Belgium here.
Good video. One thought: With synthetic oil, the viscosity should remain the same at all temperatures, so warming up the bike isn't as important as it was in "the old days" with regular oil that gets thin at high temps.
Well you'll have to forgive me but I don't remember. It's been 5 years since I made this vid. It was full synthetic oil from the Ducati dealer is all i know. It was like $15 a liter. Sorry for not being more help. Thanks for watching though.
Well that's a good question. I couldn't find the exact torque specs for the drain plug or screen filter so I just went by feel. The mechanic at my local dealer said they never use a torque wrench either so I guess it should be fine. Just make sure it is tight enough that it doesn't come loose but definitely don't over tighten it and strip out the threads. I did find (after the fact) the metric specs but I was to lazy to do the conversion. Lol. I think it was on the Monster forum. Thanks for watching.

Great!I could see inside the oil hosing!Considering an oil cooler install so wanted to see where the diverter plate would go!Great video indeed!
I hope it helped. Thanks for the comment and sharing.
awesome video man!! cant wait to pick up my 696 !!
Thank you. The 696 is so much fun to ride. You will love it. Not super fast on top but it gets there in a hurry. Stay safe.

Thanks. Hopefully this vid will inspire and give people the confidence to DIY. Rock on bro. Let's get together for some beerz soon.
Yes, Thanks to you for the video. Extremely helpful. Mucho kudos. Also thanks to Daniel Nugent for the torque value. :-)
Good video, hugs from Brazil!
Same issue with the oil filter leaking at cold start or after a ride. Ducati S2R 2006
Cheers mate!
Roshan Perera Cheers 🍻
Anybody know what size the crush washers are?
Thanks. I had fun making it.

Thanks. No. 3 liters is all she holds. 3.17 qrts.
Brian Helfrich Thank you. It took exactly 3 liters (3.17qts).

Thanks for watching. No I don't have vids of that yet but will do vids of any maintenance or mods when i do them so stay tuned.

The K&N filter fixed the the leak issue. Thanks for watching.
+TorqdOff Good stuff! Whats of viscosity for the oil?
+Sean Weng Well, I can't remember. Tried taking a screenshot and expanding it but it is too blurry. Sorry. I think I used specter full synthetic.
+Sean Weng looks like 10W40 in the video
excellent
May I ask if what model of K&N filter you installed on your ducati... I also thinking of using that k&n. Thanks.
lloyd alovera I’m sorry but it’s been awhile now and I don’t remember the actual model #. Your dealer will know. That’s where I got mine.
KN -153
thank you.
Hi what size and part number for the 2 different crush washers ?
Sorry but I don’t have any idea. That was a long time ago. I just went to the dealer and he looked up the sizes and got what I needed.
Can't ever have TOO much beer!

Yeah. It's a bad design. I was worried I would strip it out our break the bit.
Hey, thank you for your great video.

Great video. Thanks
Good write up
Thanks for sharing.

+Fiz Fazil Sorry it took so long to comment. I'm not sure. My light never came on. You might have to take it to the dealer to get it reset.
Alright. Thanks man.
Does it works with a Red Bull instead of a beer ? I do not drink beers :-) I have a 2012 Ducati Monster 1100 Evo with only 1800 miles on it ;-)
MrToonfish Sure. You can substitute any energy drink. I personally recommend Monster Extra Strength with Nitrous Technology. 👍

MrToonfish I did demo ride on one a couple of years ago and fell in love. Cheers man. Stay safe and thanks for watching.
Good Vid!
Hellouuu. I wondering if you know the torque of each of the squeeze that shown in the video. today im gona change the oil to my baby. tks so much.
Gerson Mtz. I can't remember what the proper torque is for these. I found it on google. i believe it was metric and I had to do the conversion.
TorqdOff 20Nm for the drain plug, 42Nm for the screen filter and filter plug.
Good video. One thought: With synthetic oil, the viscosity should remain the same at all temperatures, so warming up the bike isn't as important as it was in "the old days" with regular oil that gets thin at high temps.
What kind of oil did you use?

Ducati monster 795
Where can i buy the crush washers for the drain plug and the screen filter plug?
I got mine at the local Ducati dealer.
How many pounds of torque for the screws?
Well that's a good question. I couldn't find the exact torque specs for the drain plug or screen filter so I just went by feel. Hey what year is that bike?
2012. Thanks for sharing and bringing that to my attention. I'll put the year in the description.
Way to go google+
