you forget to mention Greedy fly by bush!
Too scary
Great watchmojo video 👍 👌
You forgot Yonkers by Tyler the Creator
I think the video for Smashing Pumpkins 'Try,Try,Try' video is pretty disturbing. It's a really good video, but could be triggering for some really sensitive people.
Black Hole Sun still freaks me out. Glad to see others were freaked out by it as well.
I was like 9 when I saw it. It scared the hell out of me.
Black Hole Sun > Heart Shaped Box
I was like 10 and was watching tv with my fam and I fell asleep on the floor. When I woke up at like 3 am it was everyone had gone to bed and this music video was playing in the tv and it scared the living s**t out of me.
Yeah it was weird bro
I'm totally with you. I've seen "The Exorcist", "Eraserhead", "Anti-Christ", "Hereditary", and so many other scary, jarring movies, but none of them have scared me as much as this music video. Don't even get me started on the girl with the braces and the jumprope. *shudder*
The song Jeremy by Pearl Jam was made about a high school kid in ohio named jeremy who committed suicide in front of his high school peers , teachers etc ..
That is correct
except some people take the video as a school shooting after Columbine!
Committed suicide...the rest the song is bullshit and slap to his family's face.
iirc they never contacted Jeremy's family about it either. idk about the legality of not getting their permission but ethically that's a pretty shitty thing to do.
wait how is your comment a day old when this video was posted only a half hour ago
As a teenager in the 90s, this was definitely a walk down memory lane! While I found most of these videos somewhat disturbing at the time, the "Sweet Dreams" video was the only one that left me really messed up hours after I had watched it. I was 15 at the time and had never seen any video like that before.
Now that I am older I just see that as him being a performer albeit very strange. When I was younger I think I would have been the same. He's a very odd person.
I was gonna add that Nine Inch Nails and Tool had several videos that could’ve made this list as well as Prodigy. I’ll never forget the first time “Smack My B$&@ Up” aired.
It was after midnight and the VJ had to give a warning before playing it.
Oh and Primus “Mr Krinkle” was #1 on my list for nightmare fuel.
I know! I was in highschool in the 90s, this is definitely memory lane lol.
I had better things to do than watch videos in the 90s (i.e. raise a son). What made me the most sick is the parent who allowed her toddler to be traumatized by thise terryfying images. Had I known about that video, I would have done my best to find them and trued to adopt the child. That kind of traumatization to a toddler can create a Jeffrey Dahmer situation. Not to forget all teenagerswatching these videos causing demented views of the world. Jeremy, by Pearl Jam is the only song on this list where it shows how depressed a child can get when ignored by their family and bullied. They leave out of the video the most important part, which is Jeremy takes his own life in class and leaves blood and brain on all the class, including the teacher. MTV thought this scene was too gruesome and left out the suicide 😔 making it look like Jeremy killed the class instead. Enter Columbine massacre. GenX got a screwed up sense of the world. Im disgusted. Thank God I'm a Baby Boomer. I was bullied unmercifully because I am a redhead, but at least I didn't have to deal with the evil that came with this garbage.
I'm glad that you recognized Aphex Twin at #1. Although I feel like "Rubber Johnny" is even more disturbing, but it wasn't nearly as popular. Thank you for not snubbing him like I feared.
Rubber johnny is freakishly amazing
I just posted saying if Jonny wasn't there I'd be pissed. Glad to hear they put ctd but ours was scarier
to me Windowlicker was always just outworldly creepy.
@@LLlap my wife had someone make me the umbrella from that video for my birthday
I always thought Rubber Johnny was the more popular one. I remember seeing it as a kid on ebaumsworld and it scared the shit out of me. "Come to Daddy" always came off like it was trying to hard to be creepy and edgy.
I don’t understand how Breathe by The Prodigy makes this list when Smack My Bitch Up is far more disturbing
actually I find it more twisted than disturbing because of the ending
They prolly skipped it to not anger the almighty algorithm
Because Smack My B***h Up is straight up banned in most countries, and they wouldn't be able to show it without getting demonetized
Genesis Land of Confusion still traumatized me to this day.
THIS.
Heck ya man I thought that would be 1. That traumatized me too
Yup thought would be on it scared me still to this day.
I think I was in the first grade when this song came out. And I remember watching the video with a mixture of fear and fascination.
And still an Awesome Video.
A huge amount of the Video Catalogs of Nine Inch Nails, Tool and Marilyn Manson were an absolute freak out freak show!
That was what made up my playlist growing up in the early 2000's Deftones as well.
Black Hole Sun, Heart Shaped Box and Runaway Train... Early 90s was a lot "fun" for us kids back then 🥴
So true, still avoiding runaway train whenever I hear or see it, others are more grotesque then disturbing, but this soul asylum piece...
Before I even clicked on the video, I was like, "Come to Daddy" by Aphex Twin has GOT to be on this list! So, when I saw it at #1, can't say I was surprised. Also not at all surprised that most of these videos were from the early to mid 90s. The grunge era could be just a bit weird sometimes. I miss those days.
Me too!
Grunge era was dead long before this song
Same here!
Rubber Johnny used to freak me out too
I loved that video! I felt like I was in a bad acid trip when I watched Black Hole Sun. I was able to have the experience of a lifetime thanks to Mighty 🧐 Travels 👶 Premium.
I remember being weirded out as a kid whenever I'd see Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" video on VH1 or MTV. Shit was so random.
Yes! I have a lifelong aversion to mannequins, robots, and any kind of animatronic humanoid type thing. This video scared the crap out of me LOL
Yeah those legs freaked me out lol
It’s basically dropping acid at the science museum.
@@srbrant5391 Best way to describe it. XD
still can not watch it to this day
Robbie Williams - Rock Dj definitely disturbed me as a child
Not really, I've seen that music video many times playing on MTV.. the song always gets me into the groove 🎵 🎶🎤
Unlike most of the songs on the list, they were disturbing not just in my eyes but in my ears. Lol
riiiight I forgot about that 🤯
These were all amazing!! A very good list. A music video that I always found disturbing was "Monster Hospital" by Metric. Love the content as always! Keep up the exceptional work!!?
I'll never forget when Tool released the music video for Schism. I was in 8th grade and I was home from school sick with a terrible fever. I was watching MTV/VH1 while bouncing in and out of consciousness having crazy fever dreams. They had to have played that music video 10 times that day and I would wake up and it would be on, or I'd fall asleep while it was on. My fever dreams + that music video = me assuming the world had ended and it was the apocalypse. I'll never forget that experience. No drug I've ever done has ever come close.
I remember being scared as hell of the woman in Heart Shaped Box's clip when it came out when i was like 4 years old.
That and the clip for Black Hole Sun in general lol.
My mom was huge into grunge in the 90's so she had MTV rolling all day.
If i remember the Smashing Pumpkins have weird ones too.
Imo Zero was the only disturbing Smashing Pumpkins music video
Alice in Chains had some freaky ones too like man in the box, we die young, and angry chair
Korn - Right Now. Def a grossly disturbing video if I’ve ever seen one lol, In an entertaining way tho ngl
Also nearly any Primus video lol
I recommend watching the music video for Lydia by Highly Suspect. It's not disturbing like these videos but it is very stressful to watch. The whole video is shot in real time and depicts an unconscious woman tied up underwater, waking up, and frantically struggling to untie herself. They hired a professional diver with experience in holding her breath for long periods of time but even then it's pretty uncomfortable to witness.
That's a great music video and great song! The song alone is stressful because it's about someone struggling with addiction being with someone who doesn't struggle with addiction. I'm a recovering heroin addict and when I was in active addiction, my fiance always stuck with me through all the terrible highs and lows despite him never using any drugs or alcohol. I related heavily to that song for the longest time.
"I've seen your best and worst
And at your worst, you're still the best
But at my best, I am the worst
It's a curse"
@@borderlinebipolarbear im proud of you for working hard to stay sober! Congrats! And it's awesome you have such a wonderful fiance to help you through the addiction. I hope you two have a long and happy marriage ☺️
@@onionbubs386 thank you very much 😊 ❤️ god bless you!
@@albertoromero5075 who on earth are you talking to?
@@borderlinebipolarbear you too!
The video for "One" by Metallica scares me to this day. There's nothing offensive, gross or supernatural portrayed in the video but a possible reality that, for me, is truly terrifying. The young soldier in the video has been blown up by a landmine and lost his arms, legs, jaw, eyes and ears. He can only communicate via morse code with his head and begs to be put out of his misery. The video ends with the lights being turned off and the door shutting while the poor guy signals SOS. For me, his fate is a fate worse than death. "One" has stayed with me and probably always will.
Having said all that, "One" is an incredible track and the video is very well done and haunting. Bit of trivia..."One" is the first Metallica track that a video was created for.
🖤 Metallica 🖤
All that footage is from a film - "Johnny Got His Gun."
@@DarkmanPoe Metallica actually bought the rights to the film. 😊
Some music videos have scared me more than horror movies
'Happines in Slavery' and 'Help me I am in Hell' by NIN are even more disturbing than Closer
Don’t forget the original video for Gave Up
Wish
No Die Antwoord? Their videos were definitely influenced by Prodigy's IMO, glad to see the latter on the list anyway.
Totally agree, so many clips of Die Antwoord would qualify, for example Fatty Boom Boom, just to name 1.
Awesome video!
I think The Prodigy “Smack My Bitch Up”, would have been a better selection for the list. What a great plot twist at the end. Strong list overall though.
great song and video
I was thinking about that, but smack my bitch up isnt exactly "disturbing", it's more like "startling".
Best music video ever, if you ask me.
@@DarkmanPoe agreed
Might have something to do with the video being banned in a lot of countries, they probably avoided to keep the video monetized and available without restriction
Solid list! You know you can do it! Solid.
Love every single one of these videos. Love Manson and Aphex Twin! No surprise for the last two. Some incredible music.
One overlooked video that easily could replace any of these would be "The Prime Time of Your Life" by Daft Punk. Look it up. It's most disturbing indeed.
So much this. 🙌 First time I saw it I was like wow... Wtf, this is insane. Till this day never a video got me like that one.
Yeah, WAY more disturbing than anything Manson ever did.
Incredible video!
I am so glad you guys included Black Hole Sun. Even when the video came out it was incredibly freaky.
Enjoyed it!
Everyone: ghosts, demons, etc.
Soundgarden: Summons a LITERAL black hole sun

“Thriller” by MJ was very disturbing to me as a child.
It still is.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same. Those yellow eyes at the end! Gahhh
At least it provided us with an iconic dance.
@@Jeremiah_Rivers76
That’s true!
The Thriller music video has made me afraid of zombies to this day.
I don't know how or why, but the moment in Madonna's Like a Prayer music video, would have to be the statue that tears coming out of his eyes, gave me the creeps. The rest of it wasn't so bad, but that part at least I thought was disturbing.
Great list, though I feel ‘Schism’ is a bit more tame in Tool’s music videos compared to the likes of ‘Prison sex’ and ‘Sober’. Aphex Twin’s ‘Rubber Johnny’ music video was pure nightmare fuel back in the MySpace days.
My first thought when I clicked the video was "is half the list just gonna be Tool videos?" And then when it got to a Tool video, it wasn't even the most disturbing one. Absolutely Sober and Prison Sex are more unsettling.
I remember watching the video for "A little piece of heaven" by avenged sevenfold late at night once, not scary but definitely disturbed me a good bit
Dir en grey - Obscure, Infant Annihilator - Blasphemian, Igorrr - Very Noise, Lorna Shore - Into the Earth
Thank me later
"forced gender reassignment" cattle decapitation. check and mate.
I definitely agree with Obscure. One of their other songs ' Vinushka' was also apparently disturbing enough for stations to pull it because of its use of world war II and Hiroshima footage...
Great video
Please do a part 2
Black hole sun was more weird to me than scary
All I have to say is how did Land of Confusion not make this list?
Black hole sun is very disturbing
Love the song hate the video!!
I almost cried watching the clips they showed. Have always had an issue with "Apocalypse" themes. This video actually may have started that fear when I was younger TBH.
10. Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun" (1994)
9. M.I.A. - "Born Free" (2010)
8. Nine Inch Nails - "Closer" (1994)
7. MGMT - "Kids" (2009)
6. Nirvana - "Heart-Shaped Box" (1993)
5. Prodigy - "Breathe" (1996)
4. Tool - "Schism" (2001)
3. Pearl Jam - "Jeremy" (1992)
2. Marilyn Manson - "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" (1995)
1. Aphex Twin - "Come To Daddy " (1997)
I would also add:
Robbie Williams - "Rock DJ"
Death In Vegas - "Dirt"
Yeah I think rock dj is really disturbing
I said Rock DJ as well.
That and Left Behind by Slipknot with the lad being obsessed with bloody meat and guts - it gets cut as the lad goes down into the meat basement in the UK before 22:00, as it ends with him rubbing bloody meat and guts on his face.

@@paulomedeiros4843 Thanks for that. That was unsettling.
Had to go watch the video for "One More Time" to get that outta my head.
I might be getting a little soft in my age.
Closer was one of the first videos that comes to mind when talking about disturbing videos.
Shocked that Korn’s “Right Now” video somehow didn’t make this list lolol
I'm a little surprised you didn't use any songs from Broken for the Nine Inch Nails pick. Pinion, Happiness In Slavery, Help Me I Am In Hell, and the movie version of Gave Up are all much more disturbing.
I’d switch “Breathe” for “Smack My Bitch Up” since it’s a first person view of someone’s crazy night out, getting drunk, using drugs, harassing women, attacking people, and then bringing a woman home for one night stand. (Plus the huge twist at the end when you get a look at a mirror.)
YES! You certainly don't think that the protagonist of the video is who they are. I remember thinking "WTF?"
I’m sorry…that older gentleman was certainly not taking his place as a “scarecrow.” Are you okay, Watchmojo? Do you need a ride home?
Woke crowd can't even say the name of Jesus anymore.
All the videos by Chris Cunningham can be in this list. Other examples are Window licker by Aphex Twin. Amazing video!
The '90s were wild
This confirmed that I'm into some weird stuff as I really like these videos.
Same. Haha!
I would have added 'Obscure' and 'Vinushka' by Dir en Grey. They were so disturbing that UA-cam banned Obscure until the band released a clean version, and Vinushka uses footage from World War II and Hiroshima so it has been banned by various stations
Damn, Dir En Grey comment?? I salute you!
Music Videos that scared me, as a child, were Nightmare On My Street by JD Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith, One by Metallica, and the worst nightmare video goes to Genesis, Land Of Confusion. Muppets were a safe space before the Genesis music video.
I was straight up traumatized by Black Hole Sun as a kid.
Meg Grffin appeared in Black Hole Sun
The horrific imagery in the video for Black Hole Sun will forever be ingrained in my memory.
And that is why I haven't watched it since the mid-90s.
*Shudders*
my list:
10: Rammstein - Mein Teil
9: Avenged Sevenfold - A Little Piece of Heaven
8: Infant Annihilator - Blasphemian
7: Buckethead - Spokes for the wheel of torment
6: MGMT - Kids
5: Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
4: Dir en Grey - Obscure
3: Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box
2: Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
1: Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy
Bruh black hole sun isn’t that freaky. It’s mild at best.
Definitely the right call on number one but I would argue Happiness in Slavery by NIN is more disturbing than Closer.
Aerosmith. “Janie’s got a gun.”
There’s many other disturbing music videos that definitely won’t fit in a top 20 list but personally I think that Meshuggah - Bleed music video would be a good choice for at least an honorable mention on this list.
Just do a top 10 MGMT songs already.
Black Hole Sun takes me back to my major Stoner days, a good one to bake to back to in the day LOL
Made my day!
That Tool video used to scare me when I was about 10 years old. I’d always change the channel when it would start to play on MTV lol
Basement Jaxx: "Where's Your Head At?"
I always thought Tool's "Sober" video was freaky as well.
I think the Cure's Lullaby should've made it. It's quieter than most of these, but that just makes it worse.
A bit surprised not to see any Peter Gabriel videos in here. We all know "Sledgehammer," of course, but there are a few that are just as weird and potentially more disturbing, including "Steam," "Digging in the Dirt," and most especially "I Don't Remember."
90's metal rock bands music videos are more terrifying than any horror movies today ..
Think that korn right now mv should be on this list, couldn’t sleep for a week first time I saw it 😂
I can definitely attest to the statement regarding "Black Hole Sun".
Whenever I hear that track, the images of those creepy smiles pops into my mind.
i just wanna know if the dog’s okay lol
What about Mary Jane's Last Dance. Basically grave robbing and possible necrophilia? What gets more disturbing than that? Oh yeah ... Kim Bassinger opening her eyes at the end!
How Korn's Right Now music video didn't top this list, or even be on it, is baffling. It's an animation of one guy torturing himself in various ways. From pulling his fingernails out, to slicing the skin between fingers and toes, to pulling his teeth out, and cutting off his eye lids with scissors, it's a very disturbing video.
While alot of the fictional ones here are disturbing, nothing makes it more of a vomit inducing moment with a song that's heavily based in reality.
Me personally if we're only counting ones with videos, Cannibal Corpses Inhumane Harvest is the best(worst?) when it comes to brutality. The song and video are very heavily grounded within what has and still happens today in many countries, which is what makes it truly terrifying. Just visually, the emotion and effects have hit harder then most horror movies in such a short period of time, the lyrics just put emphasis on the horror of the topic. Plus, it's an absolute banger.
I'm sure if Slayer made similar style videos of their older tracks it would be up there in pure heartbreaking and disgusting emotion.
Eehm Korn's Right Now video should 've been on there as well haha.....
Dam the 90s were pretty dark in Music Videos .. almost the entire list is from the 90s …
Then the boy bands invaded near the end and all of music became a giant corporation making money off of family-friendly entertainment. That's the most disturbing part of the 90s right there!
@@chrisrj9871 😂 yeah I agree 😂
Black hole sun traumatised me as a child to the point I cried if I heard the song on the radio and even now in my 30s I’m uncomfortable when I hear the song
Facts ,
I hop rite past it thank God it was first on the list
You are pitiful!!!!
Tbh tool could fill this entire list
Truth.
Dude Black hole Sun scared the s*** out of me when I was a kid. It was night time and it was on MTV and I was scared to even go in the kitchen after watching that. I ran in there and grabbed the pop tart and ran back fast as I could.
Imagine if you turned around and saw the lady cutting the fish standing there, holding her knife, that same demented smile on her face.
I think it’s funny how no one talks about the prime time of your life music video
I forget who the artist was, but there was this music video that featured the pantomime trio Momenshaunts doing their clay mask routine. Darn near freaked me out.
I'm commenting because I would like to know this also.
"Devil's Ball" by Double
@@DarkmanPoe I'll need to look it up to see if I'm right.
Lovely ❤️❤️❤️
Schism is indeed weird, but when I saw the title my first thought was of the video Sober by Tool and that it might be on this list.
The music video from Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun still has me shocked. Now, I didn't mind the music videos of Nine Inch Nails' "Closer", Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" and The Prodigy's "Breathe". By the way, RIP to Keith Flint. Those videos are cool with me. But Soundgarden's music video for "Black Hole Sun" is one of those disturbing music videos that I can't sit through it.
Where’s Your Head at by Basement Jaxx is still a little unnerving........ one hell of a tune though!
I don't think that infant even knew what was going on in that "Kids" video. Like it didn't know it was an act or that they're just playing pretend. I wonder how they got away with it...
There is a behind the scenes video about this. The kid was only crying because it either got tired or hungry. Also the creatures made funny noises so the baby didn't get too scared.
@@hannahmabbott7370 - ok then... as long as child abuse had nothing to do with it.
I feel like Devil in I by Slipknot at least deserved a mention
I'm surprised that Marilyn Manson never made cameo's in the Silent Hill franchise. I think the franchise took inspiration from him.
It's the Silent Hill aesthetic, but in 1995!
Top 10 Things Hasbro Wants You To Forget About GI Joe
Hanger 18 by Megadeth. I saw this video when my dad was watching music videos on UA-cam from the 80's. Hanger 18 freaked me out as a kid.
Another weird video: Lou Reed "No Money Down" About halfway through the song, an animatronic Lou starts ripping his own face off.
So good
Honorable mention:every ice nine kills music video
Fantasy by DyE should have at least gotten an honorable mention.
True I almost forgot about that video, but yea that was gross as hell
I gotta say, the most disturbing video Marylin Manson has ever done is for the song Dope Hat. It is the least polished of the MM videos, but for some reason it still haunts me years later.
Most of these videos makes me miss the 90’s and late night watching MTV.
There is a music video where different security cameras capture horrific things, but I don’t remember the band or the name of the song
I'm not surprised Aphex Twin is at the top of the list
So, the 90's was the time for awesome music videos.
