- Jalmari Helander, the writer/director of Sisu, discusses the film with Geeky Mojo's Joe Vanourney.
During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back - even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path.
Lionsgate presents, in association with Stage 6 Films, a Subzero Film Entertainment production, in association with Good Chaos.
SISU in in theaters everywhere starting April 28th.

I absolutely loved this film. I saw it the second day it was playing in my area (I had to work the evening it officially opened). Jalmari Helander is one of my new Heroes. That he made this film for $6 million USD is incredible. I love the look of the film. I love the composition of the frames. I love the color grading. I love the story. I love the bad-assery. Jorma Tommila was awesome. I'd love to help Jalmari with his next action film. I'm retiring in November to do film full-time after 17 years part time while I also worked a "regular" job. I do have many "facets" to offer in one package.
Jalmari Helander seems to be the Finnish equivalent and successor to Quentin Tarantino.
I saw Sisu twice in theaters and it was a blast from start to Finn-ish!
@Cherry the Geek TV Fun fact: Rare Exports is one of Cate Blanchett’s favourite films.
As a tiny bit sad as it is to hear. might never see any US interview with Jorma due to him not well speaking English.
